Police Interceptors S25E03 (26th January 2026)
Transcript
00:02This is Police Interceptors.
00:04Police Interceptors are all I for.
00:06I'm going to tell my kids about this.
00:08And you're riding with the pride of Northamptonshire.
00:13Come on!
00:14Ace Pursuit drivers.
00:16Contact, contact, contact.
00:17Air pass 5 on.
00:18With air support.
00:19Got two out, stand by.
00:21I'm out!
00:22And a crack dog unit.
00:23If you leave, you will get hit.
00:27They bring down the bad guys.
00:29I believe you'll want it, mate.
00:33Keep the streets safe.
00:38And battle 24-7.
00:41Get down on the floor.
00:43In the war on crime.
00:45Crash, crash.
00:46On the floor now!
00:48This is what it is, isn't it?
00:49We find them, we lock them up.
00:53Coming up.
00:55Vehicle's trying to run this way out.
00:56A fast food pan is in one hectare.
00:59Think of a hurry.
01:01One running parallel today for our team.
01:05I think he might go, mate, if he get out.
01:07A shifty looking beamer lays down the gauntlet.
01:11Yep, yep, get in.
01:13One, one, got a vehicle failing to stop.
01:15Buick Road, Northampton.
01:19And...
01:21An act of senseless violence kicks off an evening of chaos for the cops.
01:26Put the hand behind your back.
01:46It's the weekend.
01:48Typically the busiest time for any police officer, especially those on the night shift.
01:54In Northamptonshire, with more than two decades' experience policing between them, firearms cops Tony and Nathan know exactly what lies
02:03in store.
02:04Tonight is Saturday night, which means we're gonna get drink drivers, fights.
02:11There's a big FA Cup game today.
02:14Is it Northampton and Kettering?
02:16Northampton, Kettering and Kettering one, which is a big shock.
02:19So there'll be a lot of intoxicated people from that.
02:22You can steal early doors, it's only half nine, but I'd imagine there's gonna be a lot of fights and
02:27lodging drivers tonight.
02:39It's now the early hours, and at this town centre night spot, the evening has passed largely without incident.
02:47Until now.
02:50A man on the street has launched his boot into the frontage.
02:54As a group of shock revellers gather to watch, he does it again.
02:58And again.
03:00Until all four windows have been shattered.
03:03Moments later, he's wrestled to the ground by the bar's bouncer.
03:10Yeah, I think the door staff starts dealing with it.
03:13On the outskirts of town, dog handler Sean is the closest interceptor to the action.
03:20Yeah, I can go down there.
03:23What are they doing with him? What do you mean he's got entertained?
03:27As always, Sean has German Shepherd Peggy in the boot.
03:31Copied.
03:32It's at the top end by Radio Northampton.
03:36But the boozed up chaos of a busy nightlife area isn't a safe space for a police dog.
03:41Yeah, Delta to five or ten, six. We're not very popular with quite a few of them.
03:47So Sean must step into this uncertain and potentially hostile situation alone.
03:52I'm sure you've probably seen him. Hello.
03:55How are you, alright?
03:55Every single one of our windows just at the bottom there, they will smash.
03:58He's done that, has he?
03:59Yeah, he's done it. So we've got him detained on the floor at the minute.
04:01I'll come back.
04:01Thank you very much.
04:05Yeah, I'm gonna need transport. He smashed all the windows at the pub.
04:08It turns out the bloke who kicked the window was a disgruntled drinker,
04:12who'd been ejected and refused re-entry.
04:16Let's just make sure someone watches my van.
04:19He's still on the pavement under the watchful eye of the bouncer.
04:23Hey buddy, alright?
04:25Really, man, Ralph?
04:26One second, yeah, yeah.
04:28Put your hands in front of your...
04:29Put your hands in front of your...
04:30Put your hands in front of your staff, something like that.
04:31Put your hands in front of your boy.
04:32I'm alright, one more rest of the floor.
04:33Put your hands in front of your hands, the rest of the criminal damage.
04:35Don't have to stand in, mate, when the friends don't mention me,
04:37question something related when they're not only caught,
04:38and they do say when we're given an evidence.
04:40The bloke's using all his strength to resist the cuffs.
04:47Can you be an idiot?
04:48Can you be an idiot?
04:50Okay.
04:51Can you go on your front then?
04:52Can you go on the front then?
04:53Yep.
04:55Fortunately, the bouncer is on team interceptor.
04:59Put your other hand on the back.
05:02Other hand on your back.
05:08And with the help of a second member of the door staff team,
05:11the window kicker is finally in cuffs.
05:15There I see.
05:16So I noticed it's all out there.
05:18My mouth is missing.
05:18I've got help from the door stop.
05:20Fellow, take the pressure off of you.
05:21You've just got to stop staying still.
05:22I'm not moving.
05:23What?
05:24You're bouncing up and down.
05:25Just relax.
05:25The prime suspect may be secured,
05:27but this whole scenario is rapidly becoming a powder keg.
05:32Yes!
05:33Oh, it fits in septus.
05:36Yes!
05:37Especially for a cop on his own.
05:39Come on!
05:40Yo, yo, yo!
05:42The meds!
05:42Do you hear that?
05:44Sean needs extra muscle ASAP.
05:48Come on, Volvo.
05:51This pair will do nicely.
05:54He's struggling, trying to control one of them by himself.
05:57Door staff are having to run over to help him.
05:59So you're just going to give him assistance in a minute.
06:02Left, left.
06:04Before becoming a cop, man-mounting Tony was in the army.
06:08These days his passions are rugby, red meat and lifting weights.
06:12Which is also known as the tough guy holy trinity.
06:16Through there.
06:17Through this gap here.
06:21His partner tonight, Nathan, also knows his way around the gym.
06:27These two should be able to keep a lid on any simmering tensions.
06:33Just watch your back.
06:34Yeah.
06:35Just make sure we've got 360.
06:37You ain't gotta do that, bro.
06:39Clean your little weirdo.
06:40Ah!
06:42There's now more than 50 people spilling out on the streets.
06:45We're not going to talk to you.
06:47We don't need to talk to you.
06:48Okay?
06:48So off you go.
06:49Off you go.
06:54Keeping the mob calm and the suspect secured is like walking a slippery tightrope.
06:59All they're doing is rolling you onto your side.
07:03You don't need to move.
07:04We'll move.
07:06I'll move over.
07:08Because the man resisted when he was being coughed, he says his arm hurts.
07:12Fuck out.
07:14He's resisting though.
07:16But his shouting seems to light a fuse with the ground.
07:24With camera phones in their faces, the police do their best to keep the onlookers contained.
07:29But tensions soon reach boiling point.
07:34In the melee, a woman swings her leg at one of the interceptors.
07:39Big mistake.
07:41Heavy 2, you need to come down Ampton Street.
07:43You need to do it now.
07:48As the police attempt to restrain her, friends rush to her defence.
07:52Get off!
07:54And another woman has to be pulled off.
07:57Their one job now to stop things spiralling completely out of control.
08:03Get off with me!
08:04You're throwing me!
08:20In Northampton, dog handler Sean raced to the town centre to detain a man who'd been kicking in windows at
08:27a popular bar.
08:29But when a crowd of party goers turned on the cops, and one woman swung a leg at one of
08:34the interceptors, things erupted into chaos.
08:38Get off with me!
08:39You're throwing me!
08:41You're throwing me!
08:42Get off with me!
08:42You need to relax!
08:43No!
08:43You need to relax!
08:45You grab it!
08:46She's under arrest!
08:47Lashing out as a police officer is one of the quickest ways to get yourself nicked.
08:51Get off with me!
08:52I'm going to attack you!
08:52What have I done?
08:54You're assaulting a police officer.
08:55How did I assault a police officer?
08:57Yeah, you're assaulting a police officer!
09:1115 minutes after Sean first rocked up, the riot vans arrived.
09:15Okay, I'm moving.
09:16Yeah, you're right, you're right.
09:18But now, it's a taxi for two.
09:22And with that, it's finally time to hit the road.
09:32There's quite a few there, more than I anticipated when they gave the original call out.
09:36And the crowd was quite hostile straight away.
09:40The language towards the police car on our arrival didn't bode well.
09:43Obviously, I'm on my own.
09:45You can't get the dog out just at that for a group.
09:47And I didn't see the chap who was on the floor because of the crowd.
09:50Then the bouncers have come over and explained that they've smashed all the windows on the pub.
09:55So, I've tried to arrest him for the criminal damage.
09:57At which point, he's just kicked off and tried to throw the bouncer off and try and get up.
10:01So, ended up in a bit of a melee on the floor trying to get him in handcuffs.
10:05And then, yeah, I had to just wait until everybody else to arrive.
10:07But it's one of those situations where you've got people behind you and I can hear glass breaking.
10:11And, yeah, it's not a nice place to be when you're on your own and the dog's not out of
10:13the car.
10:15Tony predicted a busy night and he was bang on the money.
10:19We've got 18 in and three in the bay.
10:23And it's not good news from the Nick.
10:25I've just been told the Northampton custody suite is full.
10:29They can't accept any more prisoners.
10:31OK.
10:32Therefore, the two prisoners we've got, we've now got to go to Kettering.
10:39The worrying thing is there's still another two and a half, three hours left of their drinking time.
10:43Which means it's only going to get worse.
10:45There's now no space in custody, no officers on the street.
10:49Drunken behaviour and alcohol-related incidents put a massive strain on police resources.
10:55In England and Wales, almost 40% of violent crime cases are thought to be fuelled by booze.
11:01That's my point. Acting bigger. Just sit down.
11:03There you go.
11:06At custody, the man has finally stopped lashing out, giving Tony a glimpse of his ankle jewellery.
11:12What's the tag for?
11:15It's unlikely his probation officer will be thrilled to hear about tonight's antics.
11:22But for the interceptors this evening, a rapid response helped defuse a highly combustible situation.
11:30When Sean shouts for help, because we work so close to the DRVs and the dogs, there's not many of
11:35us.
11:36So when one of us goes somewhere and one of us shouts for help, no matter where we are, the
11:39rest of us will drop what we're doing.
11:40And try and make as quick as we can to help them.
11:42We're a very tight-knit team, and we work as a family.
11:46Disperse most of the crowd, and as it stands, we've got two and Kirsty a minute, and hopefully that's done
11:50for the rest of the night.
11:52After the night at Kettering Nick, the woman was released without charge.
11:57However, Window Smasher was interviewed in relation to the suspected criminal damage, and later pleaded guilty in court.
12:04He was ordered to pay nearly £200 in fines and costs.
12:16One white male driver, no other occupants.
12:20A high-speed pursuit.
12:22Through the red ATS.
12:25Is like a heavyweight fight.
12:26It's going round and round about, it's a reciprocal.
12:29Your opponent can duck and dive.
12:32You alright?
12:33And even land the occasional left hook.
12:37I believe it's made contact with another vehicle.
12:40But the toughest part of any contest.
12:43Confirm you want an abort, abort.
12:46Is knowing when to throw in the towel.
12:48Vehicles continuing towards Kettering, I have aborted.
12:55If for whatever reason, we've had a vehicle fail to stop, and we haven't been able to get a tactic
13:00in place.
13:02It's really frustrating.
13:03The upside is, if we're able to still locate the car afterwards, there's so much evidence within that car.
13:10And also, it's just a little tick in the box for us, because if it's a stolen car, then it's
13:16no longer stolen.
13:17We've recovered that car.
13:18If it's just a no-docs vehicle, or you've taken that car off the road, there's one less uninsured driver
13:24on the road who may have had a crash.
13:26So, there are actually a load of benefits to getting that car, even if you don't get the driver.
13:32So, you haven't really lost anything.
13:45Right, go wait up.
13:47You know by the school down here?
13:48Oh, yeah, there.
13:51It's Thursday evening, and Chris and Callum have been sent on a mission.
13:55We were waiting for a vehicle with some very loose drugs intel on to drive past.
14:01So, we're just going to park up and see if we can see who's in it, and just see how
14:04it reacts, basically.
14:06The suspect motor, a Ford Cougar, pinged a local ANPR camera a few minutes ago.
14:13That's a Cougar, I think.
14:15I bet that's a woman driving it though, mate, but it is a black Cougar.
14:18That is going to be the car.
14:20The boys are in the marked car, so the Cougar surely clocked them.
14:24I didn't notice him paying as much attention, though.
14:28He's committing, isn't he, on to the...
14:30Oh, will he?
14:31No.
14:34Now, a sharp burst of acceleration from that Beamer up ahead has tweaked Chris's copper's nose.
14:40Sorry, I'm more interested in this now.
14:42I know.
14:43Sounds like the Cougar will have to wait.
14:46I don't know why he was accelerating so hard.
14:48No.
14:50Let me try this one.
14:52Callum runs the Beamer's particulars.
14:54Involving traffic offences in Derbyshire in October.
14:58This bloke's definitely worth a sniff.
15:02Hell, that's interesting.
15:04The driver's taken two successive left turns.
15:07Not a crime in itself, but it's definitely raising flags.
15:11Just doing a strange old roof for someone from Market Arbor as well.
15:17Advanced driver Chris says the best advice he's ever received on the force is that two lefts don't make a
15:23right.
15:25Do you like him up?
15:27So he shows him the blues.
15:30And the fella complies.
15:32You really stopping there?
15:35But the boys smell a rat.
15:38I think he might go, mate, if you get out.
15:41Yeah, let's put it on the brake.
15:43Callum decides to test him.
15:46Yep, yep, get in.
15:49Go.
15:511-1 got a vehicle failing to stop.
15:53Ewing Road, Northampton.
15:55The Sporty 3 Series has shot off like a rocket.
15:59But the boys are in a Beamer 2.
16:01A 340i packing 369 horses.
16:06Can I give you the reds, please?
16:08But there's not good news from Control.
16:13Well, Lumbertub's right north.
16:15What's a thing we want to do?
16:17The situation has been deemed unsafe for the boys to pursue.
16:21So they've got little choice but to abort.
16:26Knew he was going to go.
16:281-1, he was doing excess speed when we got behind him.
16:31He was doing well excess and 100 miles an hour up Lumbertub's.
16:33He's just gone on into the distance now, Lumbertub's north.
16:37But they haven't lost sight of him completely.
16:40It's actually, we can see in the distance, it's going into the eastern districts.
16:42He's hazards on, he's stopped.
16:44He's got his hazards on.
16:46So what's he playing at?
16:49Can we have the dog towards us?
16:50He's gone in towards Thorplands.
16:52Can the dog just head towards anywhere?
16:53I know we can't pursue it, but he's gone into an estate.
16:55He's probably going to decamp.
16:56But just as quickly as he reappeared, the suspect vanishes once more.
17:03Keep going down, keep going down.
17:05The boys criss-cross the area for the next 10 minutes.
17:12I reckon that left mate, when we came in.
17:15Because I reckon they came in left decamp.
17:17We'll get out of a look.
17:20They soon receive intel that the suspect Beamer has been ditched in another housing estate nearby.
17:26For the offense of failing to stop for police, we can, if we locate the vehicle, even if no one's
17:31with it, we've got a power of seizure to seize the vehicle.
17:34So if we find it, we'll certainly just be having it away.
17:39When they arrive on the scene, the dog handler's already there, and he's had a good look around the motor.
17:44There's scratches all the way around it.
17:47Bonnets, sides.
17:48Oh dear.
17:49Tyres are knackered.
17:50Look at that.
17:52Let's take that alloy.
17:54This poor old 3 Series has certainly been through the wars.
17:58Oh, he's got the seat reclined in, um, insert your own word for it here mode.
18:03Yeah.
18:04You see all the cannabis dust and crap in the seats.
18:07The car is registered to a private business in Leicestershire.
18:11And once police have tracked down the owner, they'll have a few questions to answer about who was behind the
18:16wheel this evening.
18:18And they'll need to fork out a few hundred quid if they want it released from the pound.
18:24It's a shame, obviously, we haven't got somebody out of it and someone in custody, but we've got to take
18:28a win where there's a win.
18:29And we've taken the vehicle off of him.
18:31Um, so he's going to have to pay the fees to get it back, he or she.
18:35Um, they're going to have to also give us a line of inquiry to see who's been driving it tonight.
18:40Um, I identify who's decided not to stop for us when they've driven like a Wally.
18:44Um, so now it's a good result, really, overall.
18:48And I'll talk to them as one nil to us for the night.
18:53Despite thorough investigation, it couldn't be established who was behind the wheel during the pursuit.
18:59With no definitive evidence identifying the driver, the case was eventually filed.
19:07Coming up.
19:09Harrison takes one for the team.
19:11Yeah, vehicle's trying to ram its way out in a minute, stand by.
19:14And later.
19:15Reverse ram, reverse ram.
19:17Reverse ram, vehicle's been ram.
19:19So do Chris and Callum.
19:23Turn me off now!
19:24Turn me off now!
19:25Turn me off!
19:25Get out now!
19:26We'll take this!
19:28Yourself!
19:41It's ramming off!
19:42It's ramming off!
19:44It's ramming off!
19:44A suspect doesn't need a gun or a knife to be armed and dangerous.
19:49Boy!
19:50It's scrammed out vehicle!
19:52because in the wrong hands, a two-ton motor can be a deadly weapon.
19:59We're being rammed. We're being rammed.
20:03It's always in the back of your mind that you have to deal with people trying to ram you.
20:08Sometimes they'll put into reverse and try reverse ramming us,
20:11and other times they'll try knocking us off the road
20:16as we're trying to do tactics to resolve the pursuit,
20:18and inherently it is quite dangerous,
20:21and sometimes it results in a car being off the road for a few weeks.
20:25The main thing, as long as I get to go home at the end of the day, I'm happy.
20:45It's dinner time on a Thursday.
20:48Coffee mate, I'll come round to you.
20:50And Harrison is hungry for his next job.
20:54Confirm that vehicle's in the drive-thru.
20:56Because tonight, the Interceptors have unfinished business.
21:00We had a vehicle yesterday that Leicestershire passed,
21:04just saying it's a cloned Santa Fe where an Irish place went after it last night,
21:09and it disappeared into a sort of rural area near Desborough on the border.
21:15We've got to go after it, we've got a few cars heading after it again.
21:20Interceptor Bertie is currently parked up at a drive-thru McDonald's where the suspect is buying his dinner.
21:26It's a big old unit of a car, so we want to get as many cars near it as possible
21:30and hopefully get some tactics on it authorised to get it stopped, ideally, before it leaves a drive-thru area.
21:37When it comes to getting takeaways, Harrison's got more of a taste for Chinese than Mackie D's.
21:43He'll take a big duck over a Big Mac any day of the week.
21:48It's in the McDonald's drive-thru that side of the road at the minute, so...
21:51But if there's a wrong'un at the Golden Arches, he'll happily pay them a visit.
21:56It should be in there. It's at the last window at the minute.
22:01Harrison must cross the carriageway sharpish to give Bertie the backup he needs.
22:07Obviously, there is a risk if it's on clone plates that it may fail to stop, so we'll see if
22:12we can get it whilst it's in the car park.
22:16Fortunately for the Interceptors, tonight's fast food isn't living up to its name.
22:22It's still at the last window. It's got three occupants.
22:26But with three people in the car, Harrison has certainly got his plate full.
22:31It's going to be sitting in the car park, Bert.
22:34He's in the unmarked, so finds a quiet place to keep watch.
22:39What do you reckon, Bertie? Try and get it stopped before it leaves the car park?
22:43I don't know. It's difficult, isn't it?
22:45Um, I suppose I could come in head-on if you pull out behind it.
22:50But before they can fully formulate a plan...
22:54It's just coming out now.
22:56...dinner is served.
22:57In fact, it may be reverse parking.
23:01It's reverse parking into a space.
23:04With Mr Hyundai parked up, Harrison can easily make him the filling in a sandwich.
23:10But this fella's no m'chicken.
23:16Yeah, the vehicle's trying to run this way out at the minute. Stand by.
23:23One running parallel to the A14.
23:26Having shunted Harrison's Volvo, the driver's scarpered.
23:31He's across the A14.
23:34Could you get a dog to us, please?
23:36And he's risked his life by legging it across the busy dual carriageway.
23:41He's running across here, westbound at the minute.
23:44Icy one male, great tracksuits.
23:49He's through a hedge at the minute. I can't get across, because there's traffic.
23:53Back at the scene, Bertie has the Hyundai's two passengers in cuffs.
23:57Are you going to punch? You got a drone?
24:01Yeah, I've got one, but I've got two in the car.
24:03So Harrison must focus on the driver.
24:05Six, four, one, four.
24:07Yeah, I can't get across the road at the minute.
24:09He's dived through a hedge. I can see where he's gone.
24:11As soon as there's a safe break in traffic...
24:16...he's out the blocks.
24:21OK, I'll be out. I'm into the fields as well with him.
24:24But has the daredevil runner had too much of a head start?
24:28Oh, is that drone going up? Sorry.
24:30If the suspect's lurking in the field,
24:32a drone's thermal imaging camera could light him up like a Christmas tree.
24:38Home point updated.
24:42You can see from the drone bird, this is where he's come over, wherever the torch is.
24:46There's no sign of the runner yet, but more resources are en route.
24:51Hopefully the dog can track him this way, keep him in this area somewhere.
24:55The dog unit is 15 minutes away,
24:57but with each second that passes, the suspect slips further from their grass.
25:03I can't see anything in the ground there.
25:05I wonder if he's gone to ground.
25:08With a roadblock in place, they decide to tap their final resource.
25:13I'll pass it. It'll be seven minutes maximum.
25:17I ain't going to lose my life over chasing all across the carriageway.
25:22We've got a helicopter on the way.
25:23I've got a dog on the way, hence why I've just stopped here.
25:26Hopefully the dog can pick up a trough.
25:28First on the scene, though, is the chopper.
25:33I've got the two officers, just giving the head road to the location.
25:38And now dog handler Brad's arrived with German shepherd Piper.
25:43Anything past that trough or down the right-hand side not being done?
25:46He came flying over this way.
25:51It's now nearly half an hour since the runner disappeared into the field.
25:56The only thing I can think is if he's gone down the right.
26:00But neither Piper's nose, nor the two eyes in the sky, have managed to figure out which way he went.
26:08We've got to pass the line for him, so they know the immediate areas, and lay it as best as
26:13we can.
26:14We're just probably doing all the roads and fields.
26:17Very frustrating.
26:20Despite throwing multiple resources at the search...
26:23Thank you, mate.
26:24On this occasion, the interceptors will have to settle for an evening of mixed results.
26:31It's still drivable.
26:32The grill's fine.
26:33There's no damage to the lights and everything.
26:35At the end of the day, the car's there at all to do the job.
26:38Essentially, we've stopped him failing to stop.
26:40And clearly, in hindsight, he'd have took chase and probably been dangerous.
26:44If he's willing to ram police vehicles at that stage, God knows what he'll do in an actual chase with
26:49members of the public on the road.
26:50So, hopefully, the forensics on the vehicle will show his driving, so fingers crossed.
26:56Ramming a cop car is an act of sheer desperation.
27:01And an interceptor never knows when a cornered criminal might suddenly decide to lash out.
27:16That case looks like it's been stuck on.
27:18Have a look.
27:19Yeah, I've got a gang.
27:21It's late on a Monday.
27:23About to join the A5-09.
27:26Chris and Callum reckon the Range Rover they've just got behind could have dodgy plates.
27:32Range Rover Evoke in black, I think it is.
27:35They're in the marked car, so decide to tail it and see if the driver reacts.
27:41And it's nearly just collided with a Ranger in the main.
27:46Not only is the manner of driving a bit sus, but there's something else about this scenario that's ringing alarm
27:52bells.
27:55The Ford's pickup plates also bear the hallmarks of a possible clone.
28:01Ford Ranger in grey.
28:03Of course, they've got tape on display.
28:07We're going to go with the Ford Ranger.
28:08Having decided to follow the pickup, they sit back and hatch a plan.
28:14We are an advanced TPAC driver in a suitable vehicle.
28:18Vehicle's currently not failing to stop at the moment.
28:21My Ford's are with the lack of TPAC at the moment for a boxing resolution.
28:24We do a sting, a pre-emptive sting, and hand over to Empath to take over.
28:30The Ford pickup weighs it at nearly two and a half tons, and packs a heavyweight punch.
28:35So the interceptors want to sting it to avoid a pursuit.
28:39It's multiple occupants inside, unknown occupants, unknown if they're armed.
28:43But the nearest stinger unit is ten minutes away.
28:47Thinking about where to go, aren't they?
28:49And now the boys are presented with a different challenge.
28:54We're a left-left now. We're into a McDonald's.
28:58The driver's made a beeline for McDonald's.
29:01So the interceptors fall in behind and hope he doesn't get spooked.
29:06Yeah, well, more interesting, he's now ordering food in the drive-thru.
29:10Dog handler Lucy is en route.
29:12The new plan is to box him in before he's even had a slurp on his milkshake.
29:18Well, what is the ETA for our next unit's, this McDonald's?
29:22The boys don't even order, so their intentions are now crystal clear.
29:28They definitely know it's all in them now.
29:31Fortunately, Lucy is just a matter of seconds away.
29:34Moving off from the drive-thru now.
29:36Coming out of the drive-thru.
29:38Oh, you have a pre-emptive reinforced stop, I think, if you're happy with that, given the low speeds.
29:43Although the pickup has parked, he looks like he's kept his engine on.
29:47It's in front of you. If you go on the long, we'll take the short.
29:50Strike, strike, strike.
29:51The interceptors pounce.
29:55Reverse ram, reverse ram.
29:59Reverse ram, vehicle's been rammed.
30:15After being rammed, Chris leaps out to confront the driver.
30:20Because the lad continues pounding into both cop cars, Chris takes a hammer to the window to get him out.
30:28Amid the chaos, a rear passenger escapes on foot.
30:34Cover your arms now!
30:36Get out!
30:37Get out now!
30:38Get out!
30:40Get your arms out now!
30:42The threat of 50,000 volts works a charm.
30:46Let's go!
30:49You're under arrest of the official criminal damage.
30:51Do you have to say anything?
30:52But in Miami defence, do not mention questions of your ladri-line court.
30:55Anything you do say may be given evidence.
30:58To the floor!
30:59To the floor now!
31:02As well as the driver, a passenger has also been cuffed.
31:06You're under arrest of the matter, especially on a theft of matter vehicle.
31:09You're also under arrest of failing to stop.
31:12Failing to stop?
31:13Yes, mate.
31:14When we put the blue lights on and you try and drive off, that's failing to stop, isn't it?
31:18Well done.
31:19That's three serious offences in as many minutes.
31:22But Callum has saved the worst for last.
31:25You forgot to pick up your McSpicy as well.
31:27Now that you're parking day one.
31:29They should throw away the key for that one.
31:32What's your current age?
31:3316.
31:36You are further under arrest of driving without a licence and driving with no insurance if you are 16, OK?
31:41This young chap's got some serious questions to answer back at the nick.
31:46The cloned Hyundai that rammed Harrison earlier was never claimed and was later crushed.
31:52The passengers were released without charge and for now, the man who ran remains at large.
32:00So too does the lad who ran from the pick-up.
32:02However, the underage driver of the pick-up got done for criminal damage, driving without a licence and without insurance.
32:11He got six points on his record, a £250 fine and a nine-month rehabilitation order.
32:18Both him and his passenger remain under investigation for the theft of the vehicle.
32:32It's Friday evening and rolling out for the start of her night shift is dog handler Lucy.
32:39We're just going for a vehicle that hit an AMPR camera on the A14 and there's another officer behind it,
32:46driving a bit erratically, so we're just all tipping out.
32:49See if we can get it stopped safely.
32:52The car has previously failed to stop for the cops.
32:55Plus, it's got a marker for document offences.
32:59Just waiting for a simple place to try and get it stopped.
33:02If you do it a minute alone, there'll be nowhere to stop that place once.
33:06Lucy is still two miles from the action.
33:17But on the A14, Interceptor Max has just caught up.
33:23Sixth floor, we're behind him there.
33:26In the marked car ahead of him, Harrison Beverley is waiting for a moment to pounce.
33:36Now Max is here, Harrison flicks on the blues.
33:49As they approach the lay-by, it looks like it's job done.
34:00But the bloke's bolted before, so Max heads him off just to be safe.
34:08Moments later, Lucy's on the scene.
34:12Her partner this evening is Cocker Spaniel and expert drug sniffer, Socks.
34:17Let's go and see if they want it searching.
34:20The driver has admitted to being disqualified, so is already in cuffs.
34:25And the marker on his car is murky, to say the least.
34:29Counterfeit foreign documents.
34:31It's not really drugs, is it?
34:33But it's probably worth searching it by hand, rather than the dog.
34:38Sounds like the nose they'll be relying on tonight will be the coppers, rather than the canine.
34:43If we find anything drug-related, I'll put the dog in,
34:45but the marker doesn't say anything about drugs, so...
34:48Lucy goes in first.
34:53Baseball bat.
34:54And pulls out some sporting goods.
34:56There's a baseball bat down the side of the passenger seat.
34:59He won't be hitting any home runs with it stuffed down there.
35:03There's flakes of cannabis.
35:06It's everywhere, isn't it?
35:07Yeah.
35:08There's quite a lot in the back as well, like flakes of it.
35:10A few cannabis crumbs isn't exactly a big score.
35:15Lucy?
35:17Cut.
35:18But has Joe just knocked it out the park?
35:21Oh, nice.
35:23So, what's that one bag containing one, two, three, four, four, six, around six individual
35:32deal bags.
35:33Should we put the dog through them?
35:34Yeah.
35:34Yeah, take that out.
35:36Joe's just found some class A, so I'm going to put socks through.
35:38He's no sniffer dog, but he's no ordinary Joe either.
35:44So far, we've found roughly six individual deal bags of a white powder, possibly cocaine.
35:50And so Lucy's going to get the drugs dog out, run the dog over the car, see what else we're
35:55going to find.
35:56It's funny.
35:57If there's more drugs in the car, Socks will soon sniff them out.
36:02Is it fun?
36:04Meanwhile, Interceptor Sandra is after something even more unsavoury.
36:09So, stick your tongue out for me.
36:10A sample of saliva from the driver.
36:13So, this test is going to take eight minutes, and I'll update my colleague while he's travelling
36:17to custody if it comes up to positive, all right?
36:20Back at the car.
36:22Coffee?
36:23I think so.
36:24Yeah.
36:24Socks has had his nose over every inch of the interior.
36:28The other officers obviously found the six wraps of what we think is probably cocaine.
36:33Socks hasn't found anything in addition to that yet, and the driver's obviously disqualified
36:37as well, so it's a good stop in the end.
36:39There's no more dodgy parcels here, so Lucy calls it.
36:44Yeah, I think that's it, mate, to be honest.
36:47But eight minutes have now passed since the drug wipe, which means the results are in.
36:51He was swerving when he was driving and speeding up from 100 to 60 and 50 and back up to
36:56100.
36:58We put him on a drugs wipe, and he's tested positive for cannabis and for cocaine, so we'll
37:03go to custody, disqualified and driving, probably.
37:07So, yeah, back to it.
37:10The fellow wasn't charged with possession of Class A, but he did plead guilty to driving
37:16whilst disqualified and without insurance.
37:18He was ordered to pay £200 and was banned from driving for 14 months.
37:25He was also charged with drug driving, but the case was later dropped at court.
37:33Still to come...
37:34Your offside brake light's not working.
37:36...a roadside MOT...
37:38So you've got no headlights.
37:39...that fails to illuminate.
37:41There's quite a lot of issues with this, isn't there?
37:59It's lunchtime.
38:02MG from 14 for a co-to vehicle check.
38:05And Joe Wood is having a nibble on a suspicious Vauxhall.
38:09This vehicle in front, the silver Vauxhall Astra, is in quite a poor state of repair.
38:15I think it's supposed to be silver slash grey, but it's covered in mud.
38:20Cops have learned that drivers who don't maintain their cars often don't maintain their insurance
38:25premiums either.
38:27I'm pretty sure as well that from the Motor Insurance Bureau, Astra's all statistically
38:33one of the most uninsured vehicles.
38:36This one's come back on PNC, as insured, documents in order, however.
38:40We'll put a stop on it, see who's driving it, and make sure everything's OK.
38:51Blues, twos and the copper's finger have the desired effect.
39:00Hi there, how you doing, all right?
39:02Yeah, yeah.
39:03Yeah, not too bad.
39:04Just a routine stop, just to make sure everything's in order with the vehicle.
39:07What insurance have you got to drive the vehicle?
39:09Um, I've run out of data, so I'll just borrow this off.
39:13The bloke says the beaten-up Astra belongs to his boss, who's insured him to drive it for 24 hours.
39:20Joe has his doubts.
39:21Potential insurance issue, they're saying that the keeper put a day policy on it earlier
39:27on, so let's see if we can get evidence of that, if not, if we're coming with us.
39:31It doesn't take long to establish three things.
39:34Right.
39:35Joe's suspicions are bang on.
39:37I don't think you've got any insurance for this.
39:39This guy's walking home.
39:41One four, could I organise a 165 recovery, please, for no insurance?
39:45And the Astra's status as one of the country's most uninsured cars remains intact.
39:50If the boss turns up and goes, oh, yeah, here's the policy, look, and it's all legit, then
39:54we can just discount this, all right?
39:56Yeah.
39:57Enter a new player, stage left.
39:59Who are you, then?
40:00Are you the...
40:00I'm the registered to insure.
40:02You're the registered keeper.
40:03So what's the reason for Micah driving the vehicle?
40:06Because borrowing it, it's got away.
40:07Right, OK.
40:12The boss says he was just getting around to sorting the insurance, but, you know, admin
40:18issues.
40:19An excuse which won't cut any ice with Joe.
40:22You'll be reported for driving without insurance, and you'll be reported for causing and permitting
40:28Micah to drive without insurance.
40:30But it's not all bad news for the boss.
40:32You're insured, aren't you, son?
40:34Yes, yeah, yeah.
40:34Right, OK, so given that you're now here, I don't need to take this vehicle away anymore.
40:41I can let you take it, but you will be getting reported as well, OK?
40:45The pair are free to go.
40:47Right, go.
40:48Cheers.
40:48Cheers, then.
40:50Another statistic in the tale of one of Britain's most uninsured cars.
40:54We said earlier on about the amount of these that are uninsured, that just came through,
40:59didn't it?
41:12And no sooner is Joe back on the dual carriageway...
41:16Can I get a coat, too, please?
41:18...that he gets a second chance to road test the stats of the motor insurance bureau.
41:23There's an Astrian lane, too.
41:25Looked a bit quick, sitting around eight.
41:27Added to that, there's a light out in the back.
41:29And once Joe overtakes, the front's not much better.
41:33And I can see there's a light out in the front, so just worth a check.
41:37The interceptor lights his follow me sign and leads the Astra off the dual carriageway into
41:42a lay-by.
41:48How are you doing, all right?
41:49The reason I stopped you in the first place was your speed, all right?
41:52No, I didn't go over eight.
41:54No.
41:55I'm not going to give you a ticket for that, all right?
41:57But vehicle, then.
41:58Whose is it?
41:58It's my vehicle.
41:59I've got an insurance certificate and shit.
42:01You want to see it?
42:01Yeah, yeah, go for it if you've got documents.
42:04It looks like this Astra won't bolster the uninsured statistics.
42:11Perfect.
42:12But it is a bit of a wreck.
42:14You've got a near-side light out, and you've got your off-side brake light's not working.
42:20So you've got no headlights.
42:23Okay, and is there any main beam?
42:25Yeah.
42:29Just the one side, naturally.
42:31So you've got main beam on that side, but no headlights, right?
42:37I think you are, too.
42:39There's quite a lot of issues with this, isn't there?
42:42It looks like a PG-9 job, prohibiting the car from public roads.
42:46The vehicle's going to have a prohibition pot on it, which basically means you can't drive the vehicle anymore.
42:51But the driver has one bit of luck on his side.
42:54I like it.
42:55Technically, it is PG-9, but it's still daylight, so...
43:01Because it's daytime, he's going to get away without the car being seized.
43:06I'd say if he gets his headlights changed, then...
43:09Yeah, I'll get it all done today.
43:11But when Joe has a closer look, there's exposed metal on the mirror.
43:15You clip a cyclist.
43:16Rather than a nice bit of curved plastic hitting on, you've got this metal hitting on...
43:20Yeah, I appreciate that.
43:21And under the bonnet...
43:25There's no strap on there, either.
43:27The battery's not secure.
43:29You've got a few issues going on here, haven't you?
43:33It's a bag of shit, but it's a workhorse.
43:36Ah, it's a workhorse, which brings another problem.
43:39You're using it in your role as a handyman, so for that, you need business insurance.
43:44OK.
43:44Which you haven't got.
43:47I'm not going to seize it, because you have got insurance.
43:50Right, so I'm not going to take it away.
43:51I'm going to let you continue your journey and hope that you get all these things fixed.
43:54Yeah, 100% today.
43:55However, I'm going to report you for the offences, OK?
43:58That's fine, I appreciate that.
43:59So, expect something in the post.
44:02Yeah, so basically, the vehicle's about to shoot me and he needs to come off the road, mate.
44:06That's what we're saying.
44:06Here's your words on it.
44:08I agree.
44:10The Astra driver stopped earlier was guilty of driving without insurance.
44:14He got six points and fines and charges, totalling £258.
44:21The owner, who allowed him to drive, received six points and fines of more than £800.
44:28The guy, who was light on light, was convicted of driving a car in a dangerous condition and
44:34without valid business insurance.
44:36He also received six points and fines, totalling £280.
44:44Put your seatbelt on!
44:45Leanne!
44:46We are!
44:46We are!
44:47We are!
44:49We are!
44:51We are!
45:02We are!
