00:00:37I've been interested in monsters my entire life, since I was old enough to watch TV.
00:00:43I was never really scared by them, I just liked them as characters, like they were my
00:00:51Mickey and Goofy.
00:00:52I'm really into monsters just as an escape, you know, it gives you something to put your
00:00:58fears on.
00:00:59I was in a mental hospital for a few weeks when I was about 14 or 15, I was diagnosed
00:01:03with depression and anxiety, and I didn't know why I was sick.
00:01:07What really helped me escape my reality was these things that I was influenced by as a
00:01:12kid, which was watching horror movies and drawing these monsters.
00:01:15I have been a monster, I always will be a monster, and after I'm dead, I will be a dead
00:01:20monster.
00:01:21Somehow I got to see Frankenstein, which I looked at many, many, many, many times, and there
00:01:26was a certain humor to Frankenstein and a certain niceness.
00:01:30I always wanted the monster to live.
00:01:33I grew up in Only Childs, so they were my friends.
00:01:35I lived with my imaginary friends, is what I think provided the background for what I
00:01:40do in my acting role.
00:01:41And I think a lot of it was just as visceral as really ugly things, really frightening
00:01:48things, holding my attention more than beautiful and pretty things.
00:01:51We like the costumes, we like the character designs, we like the underdogs, the misunderstood
00:01:57antiheroes, because they explore different parts of humanity that aren't often explored.
00:02:02There are all kinds of things that if we hadn't been introduced to them, we'd call them monsters.
00:02:07There are monsters everywhere.
00:02:08You know what the real monsters are?
00:02:10It's friggin' insects.
00:02:11They got claws, they got antennas, they got multiple eyes, they got pincers, and they walk
00:02:16sideways at times.
00:02:18That's a creature.
00:02:19People don't walk sideways.
00:02:20That's stupid.
00:02:21I feel kind of strange, but I think that some monsters could be real.
00:02:25I think monsters exist everywhere where we can't see.
00:02:28I think behind that chair, just because I can't see it, there's something there.
00:02:31If they did exist, they'd exist somewhere where man doesn't live.
00:02:35They couldn't be out in the open, people would shoot them.
00:02:38You would find them buried deep in the world.
00:02:41Tromaville, which is a very small town in New Jersey.
00:02:44It doesn't matter because if you're terrified of them, they exist.
00:02:50When we do find monsters and when these things do come up from the ground or ascend upon us,
00:02:56I just want to be there to be like, I told you so.

00:03:47stop i feel like a big enough douche and you keep laughing at me you get to meet some
00:03:52very unique people like uh people will mail stuff this victor crowley maquette that somebody made
00:04:00this fan's underwear this bottle of pills that somebody sent really cool stuff like like artwork
00:04:08that people will make for us um which is awesome there was this this one guy uh william decker
00:04:15i wish that i had thought to be shooting this the moment that this stuff first arrived uh but
00:04:23say it okay all right william decker claims in all seriousness that he's found monsters
00:04:32and he wants me to tell his story to the world is that good enough i think we should hire
00:04:39an actor to
00:04:40play you

00:05:27kind of a great fan i have a really cool relationship with my fans and i think that that's because
00:05:36like when i was first starting out you know when you're making an independent movie you don't have
00:05:42marketing or advertisements you know so you really got to do it yourself and and put yourself out there
00:05:47so people know about you and know about your movie and after a while though like the more movies you
00:05:53make and the more people there are that want a piece of you it just kind of starts to i
00:05:58don't know
00:05:58i guess take its toll now the ones who do get through are the ones who actually take the time
00:06:04to write like a physical letter to my fan mail address and that's huge you know when someone's
00:06:09going to take the time and write you a long letter or send you i don't know like drawings art
00:06:15fan fiction sometimes really personal stuff i mean that it's awesome so i oh sorry hold on it's the

00:07:40my name is william decker i'm a retired police detective i'm 61 years old and i live in southern
00:07:49california i'm chatsworth i have lived here for the last four years um now i know you've already told
00:07:56me this but just for the sake of the cameras basically what you're saying is that you've discovered
00:08:03a world underneath our own world where monsters live every generation there are born children who are
00:08:17different and these different children are given cruel labels like monsters freaks rejects
00:08:28and these children reach a certain age and they disappear nobody knows where they go and what's worse
00:08:36they don't even care that they vanished but i do
00:08:42i do see these children they don't die they're not even far away from us they're right next to us
00:08:52but they
00:08:53exist in their own world i call it the marrow some 100 yards beneath the surface of the earth exists
00:09:06a metropolis that mirrors ours in very many respects life goes on down there there are marriages and births
00:09:18and divorces and deaths and friendships and creativity they can be free okay so why don't we kind of start
00:09:30at the
00:09:30beginning let's talk about your childhood and tell me a little bit about growing up well i was born um
00:09:38into a i guess you could say a lower middle class family in nashua new hampshire i was a latchkey
00:09:45kid i didn't have any brothers and sisters and uh i didn't have any real friends to speak of
00:09:51so i uh i had to occupy myself there was a special spot that i always went to
00:09:59and it was an old lumber company you know that sold board feet you know lumber and it was all
00:10:06closed down
00:10:07and locked up and the buildings there would be my fortress be my castle you know and i used to
00:10:13uh
00:10:14i used to defend my fortress against the invading barbarian hordes i had a hell of an imagination
00:10:22i bet you bet yeah um it was rather late in the evening as i remember and i was late
00:10:32for supper and
00:10:32i knew my mom was she was going to kill me so i came running out of the main building
00:10:35where i played
00:10:36primarily and and as i came out into the yard i i saw a man standing by an old wood
00:10:45pile as i drew closer to him
00:10:56where am i
00:11:01i'm looking at his face
00:11:05and it doesn't look human no he had a he had a mouth like a serpent's mouth it was
00:11:13sort of pointed and and he had real thin lips and uh splayed over the bottom lip was uh
00:11:21i swear to god a forked tongue and then when he blinked his eyelids closed from the sides not
00:11:30horizontally up and down i was like
00:11:34i'd never seen anything like that before in my life it terrified me did he say anything to you no
00:11:41he
00:11:41didn't say a word he just looked at me hard and then he jumped behind the wood pile and i
00:11:50and i ran
00:11:50around the corner of the wood pile he was gone just gone he just vanished he's disappeared one second
00:11:58gone the next gone vanished so did you ever tell anybody about it like your mom or your dad no
00:12:06and
00:12:06they wouldn't believe me anyway they would have thought i was some kind of a nut you know the
00:12:10overactive imagination on on their boy you know probably would have thought i was schizophrenic or
00:12:19something you know yeah uh and i felt that way sometimes too talking to my imaginary uh friends
00:12:27in the woods and i never saw him again i did see others though oh yeah other serpent monster men
00:12:37not serpent men i just saw other different ones okay so like a variety i i never got as close
00:12:44to any
00:12:45of them as i did that first one but if i hid in one of the buildings till it got
00:12:51dark and i looked
00:12:53into the woods i'd see their shapes moving through the woods and there were big ones lumbering and there
00:13:03were little ones that were darting in and out i saw their shapes i saw them well anyway after about
00:13:10three months uh i shot some footage there oh you got you got footage of the the monsters no it
00:13:17was daytime
00:13:18i couldn't get any footage of them so what did you get well i found what i believed to be
00:13:28the entrance to their hiding place the marrow the marrow
00:13:40so what do you think it's not bad first day right no it was good make it more comfortable
00:13:45thank you tell him not to touch that he's not those are our core it's those are our chords it's

00:15:38you're gonna love him he's gonna be your new best friend in the world like he's gonna you're gonna
00:15:42be friends with him on facebook and you're gonna follow him on twitter he's gonna be in your favorites

00:15:54i mean basically this corn is awful you burnt it like it's fine you know it's fine just eat it

00:16:03whole thing could be awesome or it could all be but either way like we're not gonna know unless we
00:16:08do it you know even if the whole story is total it's gonna be really funny how are you even

00:17:33there's a cemetery right up ahead uh-huh we go about 100 yards past that that's the entrance to
00:17:40the marrow so nobody minds that you've come out here it's a public place right but the sign at the
00:17:50entrance says that the park closes at dusk so it's a public place
00:17:58it doesn't matter because anything off that main road is closed after sundown no i i understand that
00:18:03but we're literally just going to go take some pictures at magic hour you know like dusk and then
00:18:08we're going to leave right away so okay as long as you're out of here before it gets dark
00:18:12can i ask why it's such a problem if we're here once it's dark because the park closes at dusk
00:18:20okay but like specifically has anything like have you like personally ever seen anything the park
00:18:26closes at dusk ah okay i get it now thank you very much has that guy given you trouble before

00:24:44other rejects down into the marrow so my guess is old vance is a
00:24:51well he's a kind of a gatekeeper or guardian you know and he guides the new citizens down into their
00:24:57new
00:24:58world and and then he guards against any interlopers you know did you did you paint that you know that's
00:25:06really good i i had it i had another artist do it for me i commissioned it how close is
00:25:13that then to
00:25:14what you saw would you say that's pretty close you know it's a pretty good representation i'd um
00:25:20i would say probably on a scale from one to ten about eight and a half nine yeah that's that
00:25:26this
00:25:26is vance and what why the bag or then do they all do that do they wear no no no

00:25:33masks uh others like vance wear a bag um why is that i suppose uh vance wears it because what's
00:25:42underneath

00:25:51but uh i'm sure it's a trip you know and then others wear masks uh to disguise perhaps certain
00:26:00deformities and and so they could just be all all around us at any time then is what you're saying

00:26:05not anytime no uh there are certain times of the year that it's more conducive for them to be around
00:26:11like for instance halloween one of the few times they do fit in well i'm i'm a i'm hugely into
00:26:20halloween myself uh spiritually that's the time of year when the spiritual world is closest to our
00:26:26world and they're you know around us and i don't know i don't know anything about the spiritual but
00:26:30it's it's kind of like it's no it's not at all like it this is not a spiritual world these
00:26:35people are
00:26:36real they just happen to be different okay yep sorry now this one this creature here
00:26:45is a conjoined creature they're like siamese twins they're joined
00:26:50right up in here the upper spine and the torso and does this one have a name

00:27:23sensory sight um rather like bats you know like bat sonar that kind of thing wait wait i'm sorry what
00:27:32did you hear that are you picking that up stay concentrated and focused wait please i'm totally
00:27:37focused in fact i really would love to talk to you a little bit more about the whole use of
00:27:44lights
00:27:44non-use of lights that's not up for discussion all right no lights ever lights scare them away

00:31:33doesn't look like us or uh or look like everybody else doesn't mean that it's scary i mean my whole

00:37:24cameras they're so small and we we rig them to the trees and just let them roll let them roll

00:37:29goes out there starts and stops them nothing no lights on the cameras nope there's no lights on
00:37:34the cameras how bright is that light that you already have on it's not it's not it's not bright
00:37:38it's not bright it's like yeah like on a scale of one to ten i'd say it's it's really soft

00:37:44turns it on it's already on nobody's going to disturb anybody with this with what we want to do no

00:38:20cemetery and if you look up there well hung that street light looking thing it looks almost identical
00:38:27to the ones that they have hanging in the front of this place so completely unobtrusive but now we
00:38:32have light now we can see things if that cemetery light makes them suspicious it won't why honestly
00:38:39i'd be more worried about it making that park ranger dude suspicious but hopefully he thinks that
00:38:44you know like maintenance came out and replaced it or something i don't know but i'm honestly i'm kind

00:40:56want to lose it because you give them enough reason down there to suspect that they've been
00:41:01discovered and they'll just move on i don't know if they move underground from one metropolis to another
00:41:05but you'll find the entrance sealed like there was nothing ever there and i i would like to think that
00:41:12the you know the metropolises underneath are connected in some way you know like all the different
00:41:19areas because i mean i'm looking at that map and i mean there's a it's all over the country and

00:41:25feel that they're all connected underground i think that's quite possible yes but i don't have any hard
