04:34Today I'm at the National Arboretum and I'm going to go and talk to some people and find
04:39out what they do.
04:40I feel like a journalist now.

05:12We're back!
05:13And I'm very curious about who are the celebrities we're going to interview next.
05:26This time on the assembly, my role as mentor is continuing.
05:30But I know the students now all quite well, so I know with some of them that they can be
05:35pushed to reach their potential a little bit more.
05:38Where is Lee?
05:40Just like Lee!
05:41Lee!
05:42Lee!

05:49Hey, everybody.
05:52Welcome back for Season 3 of The Assembly.
05:55Woo!
05:57I'm taking it from that reaction and you're all very excited.
05:59Who'd be liked here.
06:00You're like us and good moth to us.
06:02Oh, that's nice.
06:03Tell me about what you've all been doing since I last saw you.
06:06So, Willa?
06:07I learn how to make a short film.
06:08How about you, Thomas?
06:11I started a podcast.
06:14Fantastic.
06:15Oh!
06:16Fletcher, how about you?
06:17Well, I did my interview with the Wiggles.
06:20I saw that. Very, very good.
06:22What's the best part about being a Wiggle?
06:25The best thing about being a Wiggle,
06:26I think Fletcher is getting a chance to meet people like you.
06:29Did you enjoy it?
06:31Yes, I did.
06:32What were they like?
06:34Like, come straight out of TV.
06:38What about you, Bethany?
06:39I got to work at a festival, actually.
06:41I did that with Angus,
06:42and we got to invite people from the festival,
06:46like musicians,
06:47to come and sit in our morning show
06:48and ask them questions.
06:49Oh, how cool.
06:50So do we know what Angus is up to?
06:52Angus is working at Triple J.
06:54That's fantastic.
06:55Yeah, yeah.
06:55That is so cool.
06:56Very exciting.
06:58I am so proud of all the incredible things
07:01that the students have done
07:02since they appeared on the Assembly.
07:04But more than that,
07:05I'm just so thrilled
07:06at watching their confidence develop.
07:08Would you like me to tell you
07:09who our first guest is going to be
07:12for this?
07:13He is one half,
07:14Australia's most famous comedy duo.
07:17He is a quiz master.
07:20He is an internationally successful author.
07:23Do you want to have a stab at guessing
07:24who it is, Thomas?
07:25Andy Lee.
07:27It is Andy Lee.
07:30Yes, Andy Lee.
07:32Good guess.
07:34What do you know about him, Thomas?
07:35The fact that he's done
07:37Do Not Open This Book.
07:38He's done The 100.
07:39We are back.
07:40A brand new season of The 100
07:41only made possible
07:42by the people up there.
07:44He's from Hamish and Andy.
07:46He's done Gap here.
07:46Hello there.
07:48You promised me
07:48you'll see me down there?
07:50Yeah, I'll see you down there.
08:01He's also been nominated
08:03for Gold Logies
08:04and he has won a Logie with Hamish.
08:07Yeah, they're very, very popular.
08:08Well, we thought we'd give it a try.
08:10I would be blind
08:11and Hamish would be deaf
08:13for 50 hours.
08:14Guys, I just want to take
08:15this opportunity to tell you both
08:17that Hamish wipes his bum
08:19from the front.
08:20He does.
08:21He does.
08:23Anastasia, you seem pretty excited
08:24about Andy.
08:25I was actually recently watching
08:27Do Not Watch The Show
08:28and I watched the first episode
08:29and I thought it was like
08:30really, really, really funny.
08:32How are you feeling, Wiz?
08:34No!
08:35Actually quite busy.
08:36This is the first person
08:38who made a cartoon show
08:40that's coming on the show.
08:42And I'm really excited
08:43to be talking about animation
08:45with him.
08:46I haven't got time
08:47for you today.
08:48Let's do it!
08:49Shall we split into our groups?
08:51Let's do it!
08:51Let's split into our groups.
08:53All right.
08:59All righty.
09:01Let's start pairing
09:02our questions for Andy Lee.
09:04I've got to get my notebook out.
09:06Do I have a question
09:07about how he got banned
09:08from the Olympic Village?
09:10Hi!
09:11Hello, Babish Lee.
09:13Hi, Lee.
09:13I know you're all
09:14very excited about Andy.
09:16These questions I come up with
09:17are very cheeky.
09:19Oh, okay.
09:19I like it when you're cheeky.
09:21I have done
09:21just a tiny bit of research on it.
09:24Is that tiny?
09:26That is good.
09:27I researched that
09:28he's always checking in
09:29with his friends
09:30and maybe he may have had
09:32a friend that committed suicide
09:33or that's something.
09:35Good thinking.
09:36Coming back to the Assembly,
09:37I'm doing a lot more research.
09:39I'm not afraid
09:40to ask the hard questions.
09:42Yeah, that's a good question.
09:44Do we like Andy's comedy?
09:47I associate him
09:48and Hamish together.
09:52Yeah.
09:52What fascinates me about Andy
09:54is the whole comedy duo thing.
09:56I like Andy Lee a lot
09:58but what I also find interesting
10:00about Andy Lee
10:01is he's often pushed behind Hamish
10:04and doesn't get the success
10:05that he probably deserves
10:08because he is a very funny guy.
10:10Andy is funny.
10:12He is.
10:12He can stand on his own two feet.
10:15He seems to have a love
10:16for Australian architecture
10:17if he bought that mansion
10:18he's doing up as well.
10:19Yeah, I think it was built 1874.
10:22Oh, that's interesting.
10:23Okay, Evie.
10:24I've written six.
10:26Good.
10:27I heard about Donalch's show
10:28and I didn't know he made it.
10:29I was like, oh, that was him?
10:31So then I was like, okay,
10:32I need to watch it now
10:33and I've watched it
10:34and I was like, oh my gosh.
10:35Did you like it?
10:36I loved it.
10:37One of my dreams
10:38is to be a voice actor
10:40and I also very love drawing
10:42so I'm very excited
10:44to meet Andy Lee.
10:45All right, Thomas,
10:47what do you reckon?
10:48Okay.
10:48Are there any more
10:49do not open this books in the works?
10:51And I've already put some suggestions.
10:54Do not open this book, I beg you.
10:57Do not open this book, now go away.
11:00Listen to me, do not open this book.
11:03Do not open this book
11:04or you'll be sorry.
11:06Do not be an idiot
11:08and do not open this book.
11:11I said for the last time,
11:13do not open this book.
11:15Can I just say, they're amazing.
11:17They are so brilliant,
11:19I would publish every single one of those.
11:22Good work, gang.
11:23See you at the interview.
11:35Are you okay, Anastasia?
11:36Yeah, I'm doing fine.
11:37Just a bit nervous, that's all.
11:38We all get a bit nervous.
11:40I'm just hoping that Andy doesn't know me
11:42because right now I'm about to Andy flee.
11:44So do you know what I do sometimes
11:45before an interview
11:46if I'm getting a bit overwhelmed
11:47and a bit stressed?
11:48Just do some good deep breathing, okay?
11:50Yeah, I do that too.
11:51Let's do some box breathing
11:52and run together, okay?
11:53So in for four.
11:57Hold for four.
12:03See how that calms you down?
12:05Yeah, thank you.
12:09Hi.
12:10How are you, my friend?
12:12Yeah, you too.
12:13Hello.
12:14Hello.
12:15Can I say, I'm a big fan of your show.
12:18Even though you've been told not to watch them?
12:20Yes, even if I told not to watch.
12:25Hi there.
12:26I'm Andy.
12:27Ciao.
12:27Ciao, good to see you.
12:28Nice to meet you.
12:29We watched the show.
12:30And the book.
12:31I didn't realise there's a bunch of rebels here.
12:34All right, Andrew, do you want to kick us off?
12:38Hello, Andy.
12:39I'm Andrew.
12:40Welcome.
12:40Hello, Andrew.
12:41This is a safe place.
12:43Everyone can relax and be themselves.
12:46There'll be no judgement.
12:48Please do what you need to join in.
12:50For example, fidget, move, take a break,
12:54ask you if you need anything to help you to be included.
12:56Welcome, Andy.
12:57I feel very welcome.
12:58Thank you very much, Andrew.
12:59Savannah?
13:02Hello, Andy.
13:03Hey, Savannah.
13:04We are a collective of autistic journalism students
13:08and we are very happy to have you join us today.
13:11I'm very happy to be here.
13:13Aw.
13:13Aw.
13:14Our rules are no subject is out of bounds.
13:17Maybe I'm not happy to be here.
13:21No, I am.
13:22I am.
13:22Sorry, Savannah.
13:23Sorry.
13:23Okay.
13:24Our rules are no subject is out of bounds,
13:26no question is off the table,
13:29and anything might happen.
13:32Welcome to the assembly.
13:34Thank you very much.
13:35Very funny.
13:36Our first question is going to be from Fletcher.
13:39You have a lot of luck with the ladies and now engaged.
13:42I am still looking for my first girlfriend.
13:44Do you remember your first girlfriend?
13:46Can you pass on any tips on how to get girls that are much better looking than you?
13:54Yes, I do have experience in dating people that are far more attractive than me.
14:00Thank you for pointing that out.
14:03To be honest, be yourself, Fletcher.
14:06The one thing that I find really interesting about dating and when I was single,
14:09people would be telling you what to do and don't text her this day,
14:13but make sure you wait three days and do this.
14:15And I found that really hard and overwhelming.
14:20And so as soon as I went back to just being myself,
14:23if I liked someone, I'd ask them out.
14:26If they said no, that's okay.
14:28I didn't waste time on it.
14:29So I think being yourself,
14:33it's lovely when you find someone that's really compatible with you.
14:36And so that person will also come to you.
14:39Thank you, Andy.
14:40Thank you, Fletcher.
14:42Hey, Andy, I'm Finn.
14:43Hey, Finn.
14:44Were there any moments on the show,
14:46Hamish and Andy's gap here,
14:48when you were genuinely fearful of your life?
14:51Yeah.
14:52We went and jumped off a bridge in Bosnia.
14:55Oh, what?
14:56In a place called Mostar.
14:58And the bridge was 25 metres high.
15:02And I'm not particularly scared of heights.
15:04Hamish is, so I thought this would be...
15:06I organised this one.
15:07Oh, no, no, no.
15:08I jumped off first.
15:11It was extremely painful.
15:13I bruised every vertebrae in my back.
15:15Ooh.
15:16But after I felt my pain,
15:18I was completely winded.
15:20And I got to the edge of the river
15:22and I told the cameraman,
15:24Tell him not to jump.
15:25Tell him not to jump.
15:27Tell him not to jump.
15:28And the cameraman was kind of half not paying attention to me
15:31because Hamish had already stepped over the rail.
15:33Oh, boy.
15:34Yeah, that's the time I felt the most scared for my friend
15:37and thought we shouldn't be doing this.
15:40So, yeah, please, no-one go and do that.
15:43We won't.
15:44We won't.
15:44Yes.
15:45I won't.
15:45And it's not like the books.
15:46It's like, do not do that and you still do it.
15:48OK, this one's a do not do that.
15:50Oliver.
15:51Hi, Andy.
15:52You and Hamish started on the same track.
15:55Fast forward to now,
15:57Hamish has a wife, two kids
15:59and a calendar full of school pick-ups.
16:01You've got a fiancé, no kids
16:03and a giant renovation project.
16:05Who's really winning at life?
16:06Me.
16:08Next question.
16:09No.
16:12It's an interesting thing to ask.
16:15Winning at life.
16:17It's completely down to the person
16:19and what makes them happy.
16:20I'm absolutely content with my fiancé
16:23and trying to build a house and my dog.
16:27But we always measure success
16:29by sometimes money or happiness
16:32and all those type of things.
16:34It's tough when it comes to power or money
16:36because I've got a friend of mine
16:37who just works nine till five,
16:39labouring, clocks off, goes to the pub,
16:41hangs out with his friends,
16:42has the best time, doesn't worry about work.
16:43And I actually think he's the most successful
16:46because he's winning life
16:47because it's exactly what he wants to do
16:48and he feels really content.
16:50So if you're content with what you're doing,
16:52I think you're winning life.
16:54Thank you very much.
16:55Abby, your go.
16:57Why did it take you forever to propose to Beck?
17:00Oh, Abby.
17:02You've got to do your proper due diligence, you know.
17:05Several references, background checks.
17:09I had several private investigators follow Beck
17:11for numerous years
17:13to gather all the data
17:14to make sure she's the right one for me.
17:18The real reason is we were just having so much fun.
17:20I knew Beck was the one for me pretty early,
17:26but when you're having fun
17:27and you've got other things to do,
17:29it didn't quite feel like the right time.
17:32Certainly, we've both grown together and individually
17:35and I think making a big life decision,
17:38whether it's marriage or any of those things,
17:40it's really nice to do it on a really stable footing
17:43when both people in the relationship
17:45are feeling really comfortable
17:47and really sure of themselves.
17:49And Beck and I had got to that place,
17:50so that's where I felt like
17:51it was the right time to get married.
17:54Well, I do love a good wedding.
17:58Was there a time when opening up to a friend
18:01made a real difference in your life?
18:04Yeah.
18:05Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:06It's, um...
18:07I think we can carry things quite heavy at times
18:12and this one...
18:14This came to me because
18:15I was carrying something quite heavy
18:17and I did go and seek therapy.
18:20I sought counselling for that.
18:23And when I was younger, I was like,
18:25counselling's for wusses, what's all that about?
18:27I really didn't believe...
18:29Yeah, that was not the way that I kind of viewed the world
18:33and as I got older
18:34and realised that I was being troubled,
18:37I felt I really have to turn to someone.
18:41Talking to a therapist,
18:43they just said,
18:43you need to tell more people about this.
18:47And when people say that saying,
18:49a problem shared is a problem halved,
18:50there is a truth to that.
18:52I think it's really important
18:53that you can feel a sense of relief
18:55but also you can gather intel
18:57on how you might find a solution
19:00when you share these type of problems.
19:02So, yeah, that was really helpful.
19:04Well, I think it's really important to have friends.
19:07Absolutely.
19:08Yeah.
19:10Savannah, have you ever been arrested?
19:12Or gone...
19:14Or gone to jail?
19:16I haven't been arrested.
19:19I have been put in the back of a divvy van, though.
19:22What's a divvy van?
19:23A divvy van is the police car
19:25that looks like a nice station wagon
19:28but instead of the back of it
19:29where you put your surfboards and your dog sometimes,
19:31they put the criminals.
19:32So it's not a nice place to be
19:33and it's a cage inside that.
19:35And I was involved in a pub fight
19:38when I was 19 years old
19:41and the police came
19:43and they grabbed me
19:45and they put me in the back of a divvy van.
19:48So I was scared.
19:49And I thought,
19:50am I going to end up in jail?
19:52Where does this go from here?
19:55But thankfully,
19:56after everything had calmed down,
19:57they let me out
19:58and I got to go home.
20:00Thank you, Andy.
20:03Willow.
20:06Mine is Willow.
20:07Hello, Willow.
20:08You lost your tooth
20:09during an ice game instant.
20:11You had to have a cow bone
20:12screwed into your teeth.
20:14Does that make you feel weird
20:16when you eat steak?
20:18Sorry!
20:22I've never thought about that.
20:24I might feel weird now
20:25and I'll be thinking of you
20:27every time I have a steak.
20:30The steaks are getting high.
20:36So, yes, I lost...
20:37These two front teeth are fake.
20:40Yeah.
20:41They came...
20:41I smashed them
20:42playing ice hockey with Hamish.
20:44So I had to have them taken out
20:46and I've got a titanium tooth in.
20:48They screw it in.
20:49With cow bones.
20:50And then they had to rebuild
20:52my jawline with cow bone.
20:53You're right, Willow.
20:54So they used cow bone
20:56and they layer the bone in there
20:58and that moulds to my bone.
20:59But I wondered whether I'm now
21:00half man, half cow.
21:03You know, I do sleep standing up
21:05and I get scared of lightning.
21:08So, yeah.
21:09But, no, the steak thing,
21:10I'll think of you every time now.
21:12Oh, no.
21:13I'm going to...
21:16Thank you, Willow.
21:17Here.
21:18Take care of us.
21:19All right.
21:19Hello, Andy.
21:20Hello, Anastasia.
21:21Lovely to meet you.
21:22All right.
21:23When we interviewed Hamish
21:25on this area,
21:27I asked him,
21:28what are the pros and cons about you?
21:31Oh.
21:32And he was actually really honest, so...
21:34Oh, no.
21:35Oh, yeah.
21:36You know.
21:37Yeah, you already know what's coming.
21:39So let's go the opposite way now.
21:42What are the pros and cons about Hamish?
21:45Right.
21:46I'll start with the pros.
21:49I mean, he's so funny.
21:51But beyond funniness,
21:53he's an amazing friend.
21:54So I always felt
21:56that we're going to be on great adventures.
21:58And when you catch up with Hamish,
22:00you know something fun is going to happen.
22:02And they're the best type of friends for me,
22:04you know,
22:04when you can go and have fun.
22:06And I'm not saying that every friend
22:07has to be this outrageously funny,
22:09adventurous person,
22:10but that's what draws me to Hamish.
22:12And I just never get sick of him.
22:15Cons.
22:17But here's the list I prepared earlier.
22:21He knew this was coming,
22:23so he came prepared.
22:25Hamish, as he puts it himself,
22:27is fast and loose.
22:29So he's very unpredictable at times,
22:32which makes him a lot of fun.
22:33But also you can be left going,
22:35where is he?
22:36Is he coming?
22:38No one knows.
22:39I remember one day we were meant to be writing
22:41because we were hosting an awards ceremony.
22:44And I'm sitting at the cafe.
22:46And ten minutes goes past.
22:48And I'm thinking,
22:48oh, yeah, that's normally about the time.
22:50He's late.
22:50He's always late.
22:52And I'm like, 15 minutes.
22:53I was like, oh, better call him.
22:54Maybe he hasn't forgotten.
22:55And I called him.
22:58And he picks up the phone and he picks up the phone and says,
22:59do you think we need a radar gun?
23:02And I said, what?
23:04What are you talking about?
23:04He said, I'm at the cricket shop.
23:07It could be fun for us to see how fast we're bowling.
23:11Now, neither of us really play cricket.
23:13But this is the impulse nature of Haim.
23:16He gets on the scent of something like an excitable dog,
23:20hound, and off he goes.
23:22And it normally follows fun and adventure.
23:23So his con is also I've benefited from many, many times.
23:28OK, my next question is,
23:31what is your advice to someone who wants to be a voice actor?
23:34Try different voices.
23:36Definitely.
23:37Like this one?
23:37Pikachu!
23:39Yes.
23:40But when you're doing it, always stand up.
23:43All right.
23:44Unless the character's sitting.
23:46But make sure you express.
23:48Like, people always think that they're going to be in there
23:50and they're just talking to a microphone doing things.
23:52That's true.
23:52You have to, like, go, like, crazy and be like,
23:54do not even watch this show!
23:56That's exactly right.
23:58You will sound much better if you're really expressive.
24:01So if I'm doing whiz, I'm always sitting there,
24:04I always go long and round,
24:06because that's how I try and get in there.
24:07Long and round.
24:08There you go.
24:09And then I'll go,
24:10no, you shouldn't be watching!
24:13And I, big with my arms, like...
24:15Well, that's not entirely true.
24:18That's right.
24:19So be really expressive.
24:21And if you're meant to be pulling something,
24:22like pulling a door,
24:23we have rubber bands in there, like, big...
24:25Oh, yeah, yeah.
24:26And they're going, yeah!
24:27Yeah!
24:27And so you can make all those sounds.
24:30So enjoy it when you get in there,
24:31because you're very good at voices.
24:33Next question is,
24:34a whiz would normally lie to the audience
24:38in Do Not Open This Book
24:39and Do Not Watch This Show.
24:41What is the biggest lie you have told
24:43and does it affect you to this day?
24:47Oh...
24:50There are some lies I've told
24:52that I won't tell you today.
24:54And I know we're meant to share everything.
24:55Don't worry.
24:56But they generally involve, um...
25:00holding a secret for someone else.
25:03And someone that might have been in trouble.
25:06And there are times
25:08that you can hold onto that for too long
25:11and then someone does the wrong thing.
25:13Wow.
25:14And so...
25:15if someone is in trouble...
25:18Sorry.
25:20You don't always have to hold it on
25:21and pretend to everyone else that it's fine.
25:29Do you want some tissues or anything, Andy?
25:30Yeah, sorry, one second.
25:31The tissue girl is back again!
25:33Oh, well...
25:34The tissue...
25:35Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
25:36Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
25:40This one used?
25:41Um, no, it's not used.
25:42I get them secondhand, eh?
25:46Hello, Andy, I'm Andrew.
25:49Your book is titled
25:50Don't Open This Book.
25:51Did ever cross your mind
25:53that some kids,
25:54especially autistic kids,
25:55might literally follow instructions
25:57and never open it?
25:59I have seen some children
26:02too scared to open it.
26:04Yes.
26:04Or they're just very obedient.
26:06Um,
26:07and then there's normally
26:08a teacher there...
26:10Yes.
26:10..or a parent
26:12that can help them
26:13and encourage them
26:13to take that risk.
26:14Oh, good.
26:15Uh, but yes,
26:16it's been a book
26:18that I didn't realise
26:19would resonate
26:20with people with autism
26:21as much as it has.
26:22Yes.
26:23Uh, I've had schools
26:25from all over the world
26:25reach out to me,
26:26autistic schools
26:27from all over the world
26:28reach out to me
26:28saying that the book
26:30really resonates with the class.
26:31Oh, thank you, Andy.
26:34Dale, you're next.
26:35Hi, Andy.
26:36Hey, Dale.
26:36Good to meet you.
26:37You and Hamish
26:38actually snuck into
26:39the Olympic Village in 2012
26:41and got banned for life,
26:42which is pretty legendary.
26:43If you could sneak
26:44into any global event today
26:46just for the jokes and banter,
26:47which event would it be
26:48and what would you do
26:49once inside?
26:49Ooh.
26:51Oh, wow.
26:53I would have loved
26:54to get to the King's Coronation.
26:57LAUGHTER
26:59We'd want an uppity suit,
27:00maybe a top hat.
27:02But the real question is
27:03what would you do inside?
27:04I would have had to use
27:05Wiz's voice, I reckon,
27:06just to kind of fit in.
27:07LAUGHTER
27:12I would have had a good time
27:14sniggering at people
27:15thinking they're more important
27:16than they are
27:17or something like that.
27:18Awesome.
27:19Thank you, Dale.
27:20Do you want to pass along
27:21to Mitch?
27:22Um, what were your
27:24original plans
27:25before becoming a comedian?
27:26I wanted to be an accountant.
27:28Really?
27:31Yeah.
27:31Wow.
27:32So I love numbers.
27:33I love spreadsheets
27:34and I love schedules.
27:38There was one incident, Mitch,
27:39that made me change my mind.
27:41I was finishing year 12
27:44and I was going to do
27:45some accounting work
27:46for the good guys
27:47electrical company.
27:48So I went and worked there
27:49and I spent three days
27:52cancelling cheques
27:53instead of presenting them
27:54accidentally
27:54and I cancelled
27:55$80 million worth of cheques.
27:58Oh, no.
27:59And back then
28:00we only backed up
28:02our system
28:03once a week
28:04and it was for
28:05the whole company.
28:07So they found out
28:08about lunchtime
28:08on a Wednesday.
28:09Everyone at the company
28:10had to do all the work
28:11that they'd done
28:11for Monday, Tuesday
28:12and half of Wednesday again
28:13and I didn't feel
28:15great about that.
28:16Oh.
28:17I quit.
28:18Oh, no.
28:18I went and had a summer
28:19which I probably
28:20should have been doing anyway
28:21and I went into university
28:23and changed it
28:23to marketing
28:24and brand management.
28:25And somehow
28:26you landed in comedy.
28:27That's right, yeah.
28:28Alright, um,
28:30your mum had
28:31a near-death experience.
28:32Do you think
28:33your mum is a fighter
28:34and are you proud of her?
28:36Um,
28:37yeah, my mum
28:38was given two weeks
28:39to live in 1996
28:40and she's still here.
28:42So, that's annoying.
28:44Oh, no.
28:49It was tough.
28:50It was a tough time.
28:51I was 15.
28:52My mum forgot how to walk,
28:53how to talk,
28:54who we all were.
28:56So, every day after school
28:57I'd reintroduce myself
28:58because she wouldn't even
28:58remember from the day before.
29:00You know, mum was the first
29:01to survive it in Australia.
29:02Cerebral vasculitis
29:03is the name of her.
29:05Please.
29:06And it's like a mini,
29:07mini strokes.
29:09You can't have it in the body,
29:10but mum had it in the brain.
29:11Oh.
29:12Um, when mum came back home,
29:16that was hard
29:17because she got a culture shock.
29:20I'm a mummy's boy still,
29:21but I was a mummy's boy
29:22and she'd be making my lunch
29:24before I go to school
29:24and all these things
29:25and we'd all become self-sufficient.
29:27Mm.
29:27And then mum was quite confused
29:29that we were just self-sufficient
29:31and then wanted to go back.
29:33So, she didn't want to live
29:34with us for a little bit.
29:35I found that the hardest
29:37and I was angry with her,
29:39which it can be.
29:40We've gone through all this
29:41and you don't even want to be with us.
29:42But realising that
29:43that must have been
29:44such a shock to the system.
29:46She doesn't really remember
29:47much of the four to six months
29:48she was in hospital.
29:49Mm.
29:49So, to go in
29:50and then just kind of
29:51being transported
29:52six months into the future
29:53with no recollection
29:54of what's happening around you,
29:55that was the part
29:56that was tough for her.
29:57And I understand that now,
29:58but I found that
29:59the hardest part of it
30:01at the time.
30:02So, you reckon she's a fighter?
30:03She's absolutely a fighter.
30:05Um, I'm proud of them
30:07and proud that she's still going.
30:08That's great.
30:10Thanks, Andy.
30:10Thanks, Mitch.
30:12Right.
30:12Hi, Andy.
30:13My name's Daniel or Dan.
30:15Hey, Dan.
30:15I love huskies
30:17and I rescued a husky
30:18called Spike.
30:19My question is,
30:20do you like huskies?
30:22And if you don't,
30:23I hate you and bye,
30:24get out of here.
30:29Dan.
30:30Yeah?
30:31I've got bad news for you.
30:33I love my fluffy dog.
30:35But I've got a reason why.
30:37Don't tell me
30:37you don't love
30:37that fluffy snow dog.
30:39I've got a reason why, Dan.
30:42So, because I'm a bit traumatised.
30:45Okay.
30:45Okay.
30:46Yeah.
30:46Hamish and I flew
30:48to a glacier
30:49in Alaska
30:51and we met
30:52all the husky snow dogs.
30:54Yeah.
30:55And then Hamish's surprise
30:56had bought me a suit
30:57entirely made out of meat
30:59and he organised a race
31:01between me
31:03and 12 huskies.
31:07So,
31:08I was running through the snow
31:09as 12 huskies came for me.
31:11I didn't make it
31:12to the finish line
31:13and they all got me
31:13and ate me.
31:16Right.
31:17Thank you, Daniel.
31:18Ciao.
31:18It's your turn.
31:20Someone once said,
31:21no one is just one thing, right?
31:24That's true.
31:25As being part
31:26of a very famous comedy duo,
31:28how did you feel
31:29when you were boxed
31:30into being described
31:31to be the straight man
31:32of the two of us?
31:33Certainly,
31:34I had my own worries
31:35about,
31:36do I exist without Hamish?
31:40When we're doing
31:41something so strong
31:42together
31:43and I think the world
31:45of the way he performs,
31:46if I'm without him,
31:49what am I?
31:50Am I good enough?
31:52We encouraged each other
31:53from a very early,
31:55very early on
31:56to go and do
31:57things individually
31:58and you'd learn from that
32:00and you'd come back
32:01and tell the other person.
32:03But yeah,
32:05I'd be lying to say
32:06that I wasn't nervous
32:10when I went out
32:11on my own
32:11to do my own things
32:14because Hamish
32:15is a safety blanket.
32:16I have to work
32:17much harder
32:18when I'm not around him.
32:22Regretting the leather pants,
32:24every time I go to move,
32:24it's...
32:25They look cool though,
32:26so don't regret them.
32:27Thank you so much.
32:28Taking advantage
32:29of being Cleo's
32:30Bachelor of the Year,
32:32would you ever use
32:33your looks
32:33to star in a movie?
32:35Oh,
32:36you know what?
32:38Thank you,
32:39but that was 20 years ago
32:40so I think
32:40this has all changed a bit.
32:42But, um,
32:44it's one of the main reasons
32:45I write
32:46and create
32:47all my own things
32:47because I tried out
32:49for lots of things
32:50and no one put me in anything.
32:51Um,
32:52I found it hard
32:52to be picked.
32:54You know,
32:54I'd go for things
32:55and people
32:57thought there was
32:57a better option
32:58and so
32:59instead of continually
33:00going down that path
33:02and just hoping
33:04that I might get picked
33:05for something,
33:05I just thought,
33:06okay,
33:06I'll just try and take
33:07destiny into my own hands here
33:08and I'll write things
33:10and put myself in them
33:11and see how they float.
33:13Yeah, nice.
33:14Yeah,
33:14if they don't open up
33:14the doors for you,
33:15create your own house and doors.
33:16That's exactly right.
33:17So maybe I have to
33:18write my own film.
33:19That's awesome.
33:20Thank you so much.
33:21Thomas.
33:22So, um,
33:24so you spoke earlier
33:25about, um,
33:27your mother's,
33:27um, diagnosis
33:29but not just that.
33:30There was also
33:31the possibility
33:32that you could have died
33:33when you were a baby
33:34after you were diagnosed
33:36with, um,
33:37something.
33:38Epiglottitis.
33:39Epiglottitis.
33:40What was your reaction
33:41when you first
33:42learned about that?
33:44The story I heard
33:46from my dad,
33:47which was sad,
33:48was they were
33:50rushing to the hospital
33:52and, uh,
33:54and I couldn't breathe at all
33:56so I was going blue
33:57in the back
33:57and he got pulled over
33:58by the police
34:00and dad said
34:02to the officer,
34:03hey, look,
34:03my son's dying,
34:05thinking that the policeman
34:06might help
34:07and give us it away
34:09and the policeman said,
34:11well, he's not dead yet
34:12and went on to write
34:13up a ticket
34:14and so I loved us,
34:17you know,
34:17I'm all for our service people
34:18and the police
34:19and so on
34:19but this was a singular moment
34:20where I was like,
34:21that, that's a shame
34:22that that happened
34:23and that was
34:25more troubling
34:26to, to think about.
34:27Um,
34:28and then,
34:29I mean,
34:29I was,
34:30I think,
34:30one
34:32but the other sad part of it
34:33was a lady up the road
34:35in the street we grew up
34:36and her kid didn't make it,
34:38had the same thing
34:38and didn't make it
34:39so mum found it really difficult
34:41to be walking the pram with me
34:44and for a long time
34:46just walked down the street
34:47instead of up
34:48so it's, it's sad
34:49that these little things
34:50can happen
34:50and I was very lucky
34:51but also being very mindful
34:53that lots of people aren't.
34:55I see.
34:59Alright.
35:00Hello Andy, I'm Pat.
35:01Nice to, nice to be here.
35:02Nice to be here.
35:04Now,
35:05I've read a lot
35:06about your impressive
35:07Ravenswood mansion
35:08but as a bird enthusiast
35:10I'm curious to know
35:11what do you think
35:11of the ravens
35:12that live around Ravenswood?
35:14Oh,
35:14I see the ravens.
35:15I'm fond of the ravens.
35:17Not as fond of the pigeons.
35:18They keep coming in
35:19and pooing all over the place.
35:20Yes.
35:21So I need to work that out.
35:22We're working with
35:23regeneration environmentalists
35:25to get the right plants in
35:26and we're seeing birds
35:27already come back
35:28which is incredible.
35:31So hopefully
35:32the place is less about
35:33the house
35:34and more about
35:35the environment
35:36once we all
35:37settle in there.
35:38That's great, thank you.
35:39And I'm glad you like
35:40the ravens
35:40because most Australians
35:41don't.
35:42Yeah.
35:42You're like probably
35:43the 2% that do.
35:44No, I like a raven.
35:45Yes.
35:46Pat, will you pass along
35:47to Avie?
35:51Cartoons have had
35:53a huge impact on me.
35:57They are like oxygen.
36:00Since you have a cartoon show now,
36:03I was wondering
36:04what are your favourite cartoons
36:06and did any of them
36:07have an influence on you?
36:10Oh,
36:11yes.
36:11Great question.
36:12I mean,
36:13I loved The Simpsons
36:14growing up.
36:16Good classics.
36:17They're classic.
36:18Roger Ramsey
36:19and Mighty Mouse
36:20when I was a lot littler.
36:22Oh, wow.
36:23You know,
36:24all like
36:25Walt Disney,
36:27The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
36:29There's
36:29my favourite cartoon
36:31of all time
36:32was
36:33Robin Hood.
36:34Have you seen the one
36:35with all the
36:36with all the
36:37with a fox
36:38plays Robin Hood?
36:38Yeah, I've seen that.
36:40Yeah.
36:40That was my favourite
36:41of all time.
36:42I used to watch it
36:43over and over
36:44and over again.
36:45I also
36:46did something
36:47for you.
36:48Oh, wow.
36:50Oh, listen,
36:51that was.
36:51Because I
36:53recently watched
36:53Do Not Watch
36:54this show
36:54and it is literally
36:55everything I've loved
36:57about cartoons.
36:58Just the wit
36:59and the writing
37:00and the animation
37:01and just the voice acting.
37:02Just I love everything
37:03about it
37:04and I really wanted
37:05and I really want
37:06to be in the industry
37:07so I just wanted
37:08to show my love
37:09for it.
37:10Oh, Evie.
37:11That's fantastic.
37:12Well, we operate
37:12out of Melbourne
37:13but if you're
37:13ever down there
37:15please reach out
37:16and I'll bring you
37:17into the studio
37:19and like what you've
37:20done here
37:22everything is hand-drawn
37:24so that's why
37:25it takes so long.
37:26I didn't realise this.
37:28I'm in heaven
37:28walking amongst them
37:30and seeing what
37:30they're doing
37:30so you have to come
37:31and visit.
37:33Thanks, Evie.
37:34Silas.
37:36Is there a question
37:37you've always wanted
37:37to ask somebody
37:38but never had
37:39the chance?
37:40Oh.
37:42Yeah, generally
37:43those ones come
37:44to like
37:45I wish I'd
37:46asked my grandparents
37:47more things.
37:48That's the one
37:49that sits with me.
37:50You kind of end up
37:51being babysat
37:52by them
37:52and they just
37:53spoil you
37:54and it's all about you
37:55which is great
37:55that's what being
37:56a grandparent's about
37:58but when I look back
37:59I would have loved
38:00to have just showed
38:01an interest in them
38:02rather than being
38:02all about me.
38:04I do that
38:05with my parents now
38:05just spend as much
38:07time in asking
38:07them the questions.
38:08Yeah.
38:10Thanks, Silas.
38:11James.
38:12Hi, Andy.
38:13Hey, James.
38:14What is one trait
38:15you admire in others?
38:18I really admire
38:19people's courage
38:20and that's not
38:20when we talk about
38:22being in the front
38:23of an army
38:23running into battle
38:25with a sword.
38:25There's so many
38:26courageous things
38:27you can do
38:28and I think
38:30the main one for me
38:30is when people
38:31stand up for what
38:32they believe in
38:35even when
38:36and it could just
38:37be a singular moment
38:38where someone's
38:39saying something
38:39that's not quite right.
38:40I do admire
38:41when people call
38:42that behaviour out
38:43in a pleasant way
38:44not combative
38:45and just are really
38:47true to their beliefs.
38:48I think that takes
38:49courage.
38:49Well, Andy
38:50it was very courageous
38:51you coming on
38:52the show today
38:53so I admire
38:54the gusto.
38:55Thank you
38:56and gusto to you.
38:58Okay, okay.
39:01Andy,
39:01thank you so much
39:03for taking your time
39:04and coming on
39:04this show.
39:06However
39:06Oh gosh.
39:08Yeah, before you
39:09get your butt
39:09off the seat
39:11we have a little bit
39:13of a challenge
39:13for you.
39:14We're going to do
39:14a try not to
39:15react challenge
39:16right here
39:17right now.
39:19No laughing
39:20no giggling
39:21and no smiling.
39:24I'm going to find
39:24this so hard.
39:25If you lose
39:27you get nothing
39:27if you win
39:29you also get nothing.
39:32I didn't know
39:33the stakes
39:33would be this high.
39:35James is going
39:36to be going first.
39:37Does Andy need
39:38his eyes shut
39:39or is he good?
39:39Yeah, close your eyes
39:40Andy.
39:41Okay, open.

39:51I love the gold
39:52but Andy
39:52you know
39:53I'm going to check
39:54Fort Knox
39:54he's no talent
39:55but I don't know him.

40:03students of the

40:10I've actually
40:11found a fossil.
40:13Now this is
40:15and you can
40:17actually see here
40:18and tell his age
40:18by these lines
40:19in the fossil
40:20where he's
40:23Well done.
