00:00:21Oh, what a wonder of Christmas time
00:00:27The happiest time of the year
00:00:32When children are waiting
00:00:36Intently debating
00:00:39If that will ever appear
00:00:45They're expecting a wonderful Christmas time
00:00:51And it's ever so easy to see
00:00:56That the first sign of this window
00:01:01All hearts will be jingling
00:01:05To his jolly whole rhyme
00:01:09And the wonder of grace
00:01:16All right, kids, quit dreaming of Santa Claus
00:01:20And let's get out in the sunshine
00:01:22Gee, Uncle Bill, it's hard to believe it's really Christmas
00:01:25When the weather is so nice
00:01:27I know, but we're in Florida
00:01:30And that's the way it is in the winter
00:01:31Now, I promised you all a special treat for the holidays
00:01:35What'll it be?
00:01:37Can we go and see the porpoises?
00:01:40That'll be fun
00:01:41Come on, I'll get the car
00:01:46Okay, please, she's ready
00:01:47Here we go, number one
00:01:51Quickly, two
00:01:53One more, without touching
00:01:55Three hours, three hours
00:02:04Beautifully done
00:02:11He's ready
00:02:12Here we go
00:02:22Run, that's good
00:02:23Pouring it on
00:02:24He's up
00:02:26He's got it
00:02:27Beautifully done
00:02:39And that, ladies and gentlemen
00:02:40The boys and girls concludes our show at this point
00:02:42It'll be a wonderful audience
00:02:43We hope you'll be here
00:02:49How's everything at Yellowstone Park, Ranger?
00:02:51We miss you during the summer
00:02:52We had the best season yet
00:02:54Well, that's great
00:02:54I'd like you to meet my nieces and nephews
00:02:56How are you, kids?
00:02:57Bye
00:02:58You coming to see the porpoises?
00:03:00Yes
00:03:00Well, come on, I'll show you around
00:03:07These sea lions, as they're called
00:03:09Are some of our other friends here at Ocean World
00:03:13Noisy, aren't they?
00:03:14With a little patience
00:03:15They, too, can be trained
00:03:17And work very well into the show
00:03:21This is our feeding tank
00:03:24Now you'll get a closer look at the animals
00:03:26We placed our tamest porpoises here
00:03:29So children can actually feed and touch them
00:03:33These animals are really not porpoises
00:03:36People call them that, so we do
00:03:39They're really bottlenose dolphin
00:03:41And very intelligent animals
00:03:44As you can see, if there isn't a fish to be eaten
00:03:46They stay away
00:03:50Most of our animals are captured off the west coast of Florida
00:03:53Near Fort Myers
00:03:55Their intelligence makes catching them a real challenge
00:03:58We use small, fast boats to herd them in the direction of our nets
00:04:04Once the animal is entangled, we carefully try to bring them aboard
00:04:09This is the most difficult part of the operation
00:04:12Because the dolphin, or porpoises we call them
00:04:15Fight very hard for their freedom
00:04:18When he is finally in the boat
00:04:21He is smart enough to stop struggling
00:04:23And from then on, tries to live in his new environment
00:04:26These animals seem to like people
00:04:28And will never attack or bite them
00:04:30The older ones get a little playful once in a while
00:04:33And they play rather rough
00:04:34So we keep them in a larger tank
00:04:37Which you will see later
00:04:46What are they doing?
00:04:48Is Santa coming?
00:04:49Yes, it's part of our Christmas show
00:04:51They've been good boys and girls all year
00:04:54And Santa should bring them some very nice presents
00:04:57It's hard to think about Christmas and all this sunshine
00:05:00I like it in the snow better
00:05:02You should talk your uncle into staying up in the park
00:05:04In the winter
00:05:05It really snows up there
00:05:06How about it, Ranger?
00:05:08Give me the sunshine
00:05:10Cold weather gets into my bones
00:05:12Guess I'm getting old
00:05:14I must admit, a true Christmas down here
00:05:17Takes a lot of imagination
00:05:19Come on, Ken
00:05:21These children want to see some more
00:05:23All right, let's go watch some of the new pupils being trained
00:05:25Ready?
00:05:26Well, let's go get the boys
00:05:27Come on!
00:05:41I'd like you to meet some of my friends
00:05:43This is Ranger Watkins
00:05:44And some of his names and nephews
00:05:46Nice to meet you
00:05:47How are you children?
00:05:49Did you come to see the animals go to school?
00:05:53This one's not behaving too well today
00:05:55But we're going to get there, aren't we?
00:05:58Pay attention
00:06:00These are warm-blooded, air-breathing mammals
00:06:03The same as you and I
00:06:04They give live birth
00:06:05And they're suckled, they're young
00:06:06What she's trying to do now
00:06:07Is get them up on the platform
00:06:09They're usually very good learners
00:06:10And learn pretty quickly
00:06:13Very good now
00:06:16Thank you, Beverly
00:06:17We're going to go on and look at a few more of the other animals
00:06:20Ready?
00:06:22Ready
00:06:37During the earlier part of the animal schooling
00:06:40We try to gain his confidence
00:06:42And his dependence on us for food
00:06:44Like any training schedule
00:06:46A slow, steady repetition
00:06:48Of the same demand
00:06:49Gets the best results
00:06:52The animal has a basic desire to please
00:06:54But I think the reward of a fish
00:06:57Is the best persuasion
00:06:58Like children
00:06:59Some learn faster than others
00:07:01And some develop their own tricks
00:07:04When we see a special aptitude
00:07:06We try to encourage the animal
00:07:08Until the performance of the new trick is perfect
00:07:11The triple somersault you saw on the show
00:07:14Started with only a playful splash
00:07:16And ending up a complete and very difficult trick
00:07:21This could never have been done
00:07:23By trying to teach the animal
00:07:24Such a complicated maneuver all at once
00:07:29But that's enough history for one day
00:07:42Well that about sums it up
00:07:44Why don't you go over to the big tank
00:07:45And watch them being fed
00:07:46And I'll join you later at the Christmas party
00:07:48Thank you
00:08:05Good morning ladies and gentlemen
00:08:07Boys and girls
00:08:08Welcome to Davy Jones' locker
00:08:10Our big tank
00:08:11Later on this morning
00:08:13You will see another show
00:08:14Put on by our fully grown
00:08:16And completely trained porpoises
00:08:18But now these ladies are being fed
00:08:20By some of our staff members
00:08:22Who are now in the tank
00:08:24So if you'll step up
00:08:25To one of the many viewing windows
00:08:26You will see one of the rare sights
00:08:29Of the underwater world
00:08:31Porpoises and their native state
00:08:33Will not eat dead fish
00:08:35So after they are captured
00:08:36They must be trained to eat their food
00:08:38As you see them now
00:08:40Some refuse
00:08:41And are eventually let go
00:08:43Before they die
00:08:44Most make the transition however
00:08:47And are held in ocean corrals
00:08:49Until they are ready
00:08:50To be shipped to the aquarium
00:08:51Where as you have seen
00:08:53In the smaller tanks
00:08:54They start their schooling
00:08:56Each of these ladies
00:08:57Has a personality of their own
00:08:59And we trainers
00:09:00Learn to know each animal
00:09:01By their markings
00:09:02And by their different mannerisms
00:09:04Some are rather obvious
00:09:06Even to our visitors
00:09:07Tiger for instance
00:09:09If you will watch closely
00:09:10She is the one with a large scar
00:09:12On her left side
00:09:13It's a perfect outline
00:09:14Of a shark's mouth
00:09:15What terrible struggle
00:09:16Took place in the ocean
00:09:18We will never know
00:09:19But Tiger must have won
00:09:20By the fact that she is with us now
00:09:22We feed these fully grown animals
00:09:24Between 15 and 20 pounds
00:09:25Of fish a day
00:09:26Smelt, mackerel, blue runner, squid
00:09:29And other types
00:09:31We try to keep the water
00:09:32As close to their natural environment
00:09:34As possible
00:09:36This tank holds
00:09:38Approximately a quarter
00:09:39Of a million gallons
00:09:40Of salt water
00:09:41It is filtered
00:09:42And recirculated
00:09:43Continuously
00:09:45Once a week
00:09:46It is emptied down
00:09:46To about three feet
00:09:48Leaving just enough water
00:09:50For the porpoises
00:09:50And then
00:09:51Is completely refilled
00:09:52From the ocean
00:09:59As you watch
00:10:00These animals eat
00:10:01You can see
00:10:01How playful they are
00:10:06The earlier records
00:10:07Of the Phoenicians
00:10:08And the Greeks
00:10:08Tell us of these
00:10:09Intelligent mammals
00:10:10There are stories
00:10:11Of them saving lives
00:10:12Of drowning sailors
00:10:14And there are stories
00:10:15Of these porpoises
00:10:15Swimming in front
00:10:16Of lost vessels
00:10:17Leading them through
00:10:18Rocky channels
00:10:19And to a safe port
00:10:20And there are stories
00:10:22Of shark fights
00:10:23Where the porpoises
00:10:24Swimming at tremendous speeds
00:10:25Strike the fish
00:10:26In its belly
00:10:27And kill it
00:10:31We have never seen
00:10:32Any of these things
00:10:33Actually happen
00:10:33But we can believe
00:10:35That they might
00:10:38The animals are
00:10:39Very intelligent
00:10:40And seem to have
00:10:41No fear of people
00:10:44Many studies
00:10:44Are now being made
00:10:46And we feel
00:10:46That porpoises
00:10:47Will become even more
00:10:48Than just a circus performer
00:10:50We feel that they
00:10:51Will take a definite place
00:10:53In helping mankind
00:10:54Conquer the mysteries
00:10:55Of the sea
00:11:00Enjoy your stay
00:11:01At Ocean World
00:11:03And may we wish
00:11:04You all
00:11:04A very merry Christmas
00:11:06And a happy new year
00:11:13They're going up now
00:11:14Hurry
00:11:15Hurry
00:11:16Hurry
00:11:16Hurry
00:11:17Hurry
00:11:20Hurry
00:11:22Hurry
00:11:35Hurry
00:11:36Hurry
00:11:37Hurry
00:11:38Hurry
00:11:40Hurry
00:11:40Hurry
00:11:42Hurry
00:11:42Hurry
00:11:43Hurry
00:11:43Hurry
00:11:43Hurry
00:11:44Hurry
00:11:55I wish it would snow.
00:11:58Then it would really seem like Christmas.
00:12:01Why don't you stay in Yellowstone in the winter?
00:12:04Oh, no, the park is closed.
00:12:06And besides, the cold is too unpleasant for me.
00:12:09I guess it must be fun for the kids, though.
00:12:12And interesting for the Rangers who do stay.
00:12:14Say, did I tell you what happened last year?
00:12:20Oh, Uncle Bill, not another one of those kind of stories.
00:12:24Oh, this one is true, I swear it.
00:12:27Tell us a story of a real Christmas.
00:12:29All right, eat your hot dog.
00:12:32Let's see.
00:12:33We'd had a very big summer, and everything was packed up, ship-shaped, ready to go.
00:12:37Except my partner had a few last-minute errands to do,
00:12:41and I was in a hurry to get the car ready
00:12:43so that we could leave before the first snow came.
00:12:46So long, old pal.
00:12:48See you in the spring.
00:13:04Wintertime, it's the oncoming season.
00:13:11Summertime has long since disappeared.
00:13:18The autumn trees soon will be white and frozen.
00:13:26The springtime birds won't return till the grass can spring.
00:13:35In the air, there's a chill and a shiver
00:13:43Everyone, run, learn up in the cold
00:13:52Nature's kin, already for winter
00:13:58From the ice and snow we can hide
00:14:02While it's clear and cold outside
00:14:06When winter comes for everyone
00:14:19La-da-da, la-da-da-da-dee-da
00:14:27La-da-dee, la-da-da-da-da-dee
00:14:36Nature's kin, already for winter
00:14:42From the ice and snow we can hide
00:14:46While it's clear and cold outside
00:14:50When winter comes for everyone
00:15:14I suppose old Nana the bear and her cubs are about bedded down for the winter
00:15:20Yoo-hoo! Anyone home?
00:15:22Hiya, Mr. Ranger!
00:15:24Hey, Mom! Mr. Ranger's here!
00:15:27Whoops!
00:15:28Hey! Look out!
00:15:33Oops! Sorry, Mr. Ranger!
00:15:36Oh, that's all right, kid!
00:15:38I'm used to an unusual welcome around here
00:15:41About ready to call it a season, Nana?
00:15:45Oh, that's for sure
00:15:47I was just about to tuck the cubs in for the winter
00:15:51Oh, we don't want to go to bed
00:15:56Typical kids
00:15:57Yep, we're not worth a darn without a good four-month sleep
00:16:01Oh, hope my lumbago doesn't act up this winter
00:16:07I guess middle age is creeping up on you
00:16:10So long, have a pleasant winter
00:16:12Goodbye, Mr. Ranger
00:16:14Oh, Chinook, Nakomi, come on in
00:16:17It's hibernation time
00:16:19Coming, Mom
00:16:20So long, Mr. Ranger
00:16:24Oh, Nakomi!
00:16:26Chinook!
00:16:28Coming, Mom!
00:16:29Sure looks like it's gonna snow
00:16:59Ah!
00:17:01Ah, the first snowfall of the winter.
00:17:04It's almost that time of the year again.
00:17:10Sleigh bells and snowmen?
00:17:13Yep, soon it'll be Christmas Day.
00:17:19Oh, which reminds me about time I went out
00:17:22and cut me down a fine Christmas tree.
00:17:25There's something wonderful about this time of the year.
00:17:29It makes a man feel good about living.
00:17:34Warms him up deep down inside and draw over.
00:18:01Oh, jingle bells, jingle bells,
00:18:04yell all the way.
00:18:11Who wants to sleep when it's snowy all over everything?
00:18:17Nakomi, Chinook, are you kids coming to bed?
00:18:21In a minute, Mom.
00:18:23Look, Chinook, it's Mr. Ranger.
00:18:29I wonder what he's doing out in the snow.
00:18:33Let's go find out.
00:18:45Hey, this one's perfect.
00:18:47About the right size and height, too.
00:18:56What the?
00:18:59Oh, my!
00:19:01What the?
00:19:03Oh, my!
00:19:17Oh, my!
00:19:20What happened?
00:19:22Uh, well, we kind of got all snowballed up.
00:19:26Nikomi and Chinook, I might have known.
00:19:30You cubs get into everything, even snowballs.
00:19:34Say, you kids had better get home and start hibernating.
00:19:37You know how your mom is.
00:19:39She can be a real bear when she's angry.
00:19:43I made her funny.
00:19:52Now stand back, kids.
00:19:54What you gonna do with that ass?
00:19:57Why, I'm gonna cut down this Christmas tree.
00:20:00What's a Christmas tree?
00:20:04And what's a Christmas?
00:20:06Oh, Christmas is, well, uh, Christmas is a time for good cheer.
00:20:13Singing carols and exchanging gifts.
00:20:16Everyone is bubbling and happy.
00:20:18People are at their best around Christmas time.
00:20:24Sounds like fun.
00:20:26How come we never had a Christmas?
00:20:29Oh, well, I suppose it's because you're bears.
00:20:33And bears hibernate through Christmas.
00:20:39Timbers!
00:20:39Timbers!
00:20:53What else happened to that Christmas, Mr. Ranger?
00:20:57Oh, lots of wonderful things.
00:20:58Marshmallow roasts, dancing around a warm fireplace, playing games.
00:21:03Well, it's been nice, but you better be getting home before your mom misses you.
00:21:09Remember, Ginsu.
00:21:13I've had a lot of werk experience all because I canungen.
00:21:15I'm just one of my artists and everything to奶 arbe professor.
00:21:17Colonialב
00:21:35Let's ask her about Christmas.
00:21:44Hey, Mom, wake up.
00:21:46We want to talk to you.
00:21:50Tell us about Christmas, please.
00:21:53Huh, Mom?
00:21:54Huh?
00:21:56What's a Christmas?
00:21:58You know, presents and candy and lots of goodies.
00:22:02Uh, well, I really don't think I know much about it.
00:22:13Oh, come on, Mom.
00:22:15Mr. Ranger told us this was the best time of the year.
00:22:18Why, of course it is, children.
00:22:21That's when we get our sleep.
00:22:24Quick!
00:22:25Grab her!
00:22:26It's no use.
00:22:27She's out like a light.
00:22:30Maybe Mr. Ranger has a Christmas and his house that we can sing.
00:22:34Come on!
00:22:35Come on!
00:22:36Come on!
00:22:44Come on!
00:22:46Come on!
00:22:57Come on!
00:22:59Come on!
00:23:00Come on!
00:23:13Come on!
00:23:28Come on!
00:23:32Come on!
00:23:33Come on!
00:23:34Come on!
00:23:37The stormy sky
00:23:40Can't give us no reason
00:23:45From winter's cold we can't hide
00:23:50As we're safe and warm inside
00:23:54It's wintertime
00:23:57For everyone
00:24:09Wintertime, it's a holiday season
00:24:16Mom and Dad, joining in with the world
00:24:26Stormy skies can give us no reason
00:24:33Of winter's cold weekend night
00:24:38As we're safe and warm inside
00:24:42It's wintertime for everyone
00:25:04Let's take the shortcut
00:25:06We can cut across the lake
00:25:08It's frozen over
00:25:11Sure, slippery-ish
00:25:13Yikes, how do you stall?
00:25:21Go!
00:25:28Come on, Chinook
00:25:29Mr. Ranger's cabin is just over the hill
00:25:39Golly, look
00:25:46Look what Mr. Ranger did to his tree
00:25:50It's beautiful
00:25:57And he's fixing his cabin up with all kinds of pretty decorations
00:26:11Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
00:26:16Bless my hat band
00:26:18I just get all choked up at Christmas
00:26:23Oh, hi, Nakomi and Chinook
00:26:27Nakomi and Chinook
00:26:28But they're in hibernation
00:26:31I think
00:26:32What on earth are you cubs doing here?
00:26:36We came to hear all about the Christmas fun
00:26:38Everyone has while us bears are sleeping
00:26:42Look, look, look at the tree
00:26:44And look at the presents
00:26:47Oh, boy
00:26:48Shiny, bald, and sparkly stuff
00:26:54Wait, you two
00:26:55Hey, stay out of my decorations, please
00:27:04Now, kids, try to control yourselves
00:27:07Hey, Chinook
00:27:08Look over here
00:27:09Little white tasty-looking mushy things
00:27:13Bet they taste just grummy
00:27:18As a matter of fact, they do
00:27:19But just one, Chinook
00:27:22Me too, Mr. Ranger
00:27:24Of course
00:27:28Really, you cubs should be home
00:27:31Your mother will be worried sick
00:27:33But we want to hear all about Christmas
00:27:37Yeah, we never had one of them
00:27:39Tell us about it, Mr. Ranger
00:27:43Please, huh?
00:27:45Pretty please?
00:27:46With honey on it?
00:27:48Well, now
00:27:50Wait a minute, kids
00:27:51I...
00:27:52Oh
00:27:54Tell you what
00:27:55If I let you in on the story of Christmas
00:27:58Will you promise to go home?
00:28:00We promise
00:28:01Cross our hearts
00:28:03Okay, fine
00:28:05Well, let's see
00:28:07It all began a very long time ago
00:28:12Something very wonderful happened
00:28:15A little child was born to the family of Mary and Joseph
00:28:20In a place called Bethlehem
00:28:23Is that in Yellowstone Park?
00:28:25Oh, no
00:28:25It's far, far away
00:28:28Well, anyway
00:28:29This little child brought a gift to the world of peace on earth
00:28:34And goodwill toward men
00:28:35And even to this day
00:28:38People still give presents on this child's birthday
00:28:41Which we call Christmas
00:28:43And over the years
00:28:45Many legends built up around Christmas
00:28:48What kind of legend?
00:28:50Oh, I guess the most famous one is the story of Santa Claus
00:28:54What's a Santa Claus?
00:28:57Can we eat it?
00:28:59Oh, no, no
00:29:00Here
00:29:01Maybe I can explain it to you more easily with a pencil and paper
00:29:07First of all
00:29:08This is where we live
00:29:12It's called the world
00:29:13You mean it's round?
00:29:16That's right
00:29:17And at the very top
00:29:20Is a place known as the North Pole
00:29:22And this is where a little old man
00:29:26With a belly that shakes like a bowl full of jelly
00:29:29Lives all year long
00:29:31With his eight reindeer
00:29:32And many, many little helpers called elves
00:29:36What do the elves do up there?
00:29:38Well, it's said they work all year long
00:29:41Making toys for Santa Claus
00:29:43To deliver to children all over the world on Christmas Eve
00:29:52At the top of the world
00:29:56In a land white with snow
00:29:59Live a kind of toy people
00:30:03That only children know
00:30:06Stratton toy soldiers
00:30:10And toy puppy dogs
00:30:13Tiny toy dolls
00:30:17Dressed in storybook toys
00:30:20Polka duck ponies
00:30:24And stuffed teddy bears
00:30:27Toy bunny rabbits
00:30:31With long furry ears
00:30:40They all live together
00:30:44At the northernmost pole
00:30:47Happy and cheery as old Mary King Cole
00:30:54Candy striped monkeys
00:30:58And purring toy tigers
00:31:01Cream-colored camels
00:31:05Toy camel riders
00:31:08Fluffy toy kittens
00:31:12And wooly toy lambs
00:31:15Toy elephant led by a marching toy band
00:31:28There is real and alive
00:31:32There is real and alive
00:31:32At both you and I
00:31:36The world of toy people
00:31:39Sing through children's eyes
00:31:56And so with Santa on his way
00:31:59Kids everywhere wait happily for Christmas stockings filled with goodies
00:32:05Gee, what a beautiful, pretty story
00:32:12Well, you cubs better be getting on home
00:32:16Oh, thank you, Mr. Ranger
00:32:18That was a terrific story
00:32:21Good
00:32:22Now run along home, kids
00:32:34Bye, Mr. Ranger
00:32:36Bye
00:32:37See you next spring
00:32:43Cute little kids, those two
00:32:53Maybe Mom will let us have a Christmas
00:32:55She might even let us stay up until Santa Claus comes
00:32:59If she asks for real nice and sugary
00:33:17Hey, look
00:33:18See what I see, Colby?
00:33:21Oh, boy
00:33:22A beautiful little Christmas tree
00:33:25Wow
00:33:26Let's be the prettiest one in Yellowstone Park
00:33:29Come on
00:33:31Let's take it home
00:33:38But how?
00:33:40It won't shake loose
00:33:42Maybe we can break it off
00:33:53Keep tugging, McCormie
00:33:55Think it's gonna snap
00:34:19It's too big a tree
00:34:21You mean we're too little
00:34:25What's a Christmas without a Christmas tree
00:34:29Hey, wait
00:34:30Mom could break that tree off in two seconds
00:34:34Come on, Chinook
00:34:53Wake up
00:34:55Hey, Mom, wake up
00:34:59What is it?
00:35:00What?
00:35:01Avalanche?
00:35:01A forest fire?
00:35:02What?
00:35:03Can we have a Christmas tree, Mom?
00:35:06What?
00:35:07You know, a Christmas tree like Mr. Ranger has
00:35:11Listen, children, I hate to be angry
00:35:14But you should have been asleep weeks ago
00:35:17But, Mom, just one teensy little Christmas tree
00:35:22Please, Mom
00:35:24I'm sorry
00:35:25It's almost a month past your bedtime already
00:35:29Oh
00:35:33Oh, all right
00:35:35But you must promise to remain in the cave for the rest of the winter
00:35:39We promise, Mom
00:35:42We do, we do
00:35:44Yippee
00:35:45We're gonna have a tree
00:35:46Hooray
00:35:47We found a beauty just down the slope, Mom
00:35:50I'm going, I'm going
00:35:53Oh, the problems of motherhood
00:35:55I've got a feeling it's going to be a long winter
00:36:01Whoopee
00:36:01Well, let's get the old cave ready for our Christmas tree
00:36:07Oh, I guess this is the tree the kids want
00:36:17Isn't it a terrific Christmas tree, Mom?
00:36:21I'm glad you're happy with it, kids
00:36:23Maybe now we can get some sleep, hmm?
00:36:27Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
00:36:31Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
00:36:35Hey, yippee
00:36:36Hooray for Christmas
00:36:37We want Santa Claus
00:36:40Now, now, listen, kids
00:36:42I don't want to spoil the fun
00:36:44But this noise simply cannot continue
00:36:47Just what is all this Christmas stuff all about, anyway?
00:36:52Oh, it's terrific, Mom
00:36:54Yeah, a fat, jolly old man in a sled is gonna bring us some presents
00:37:01Yeah, and this big old jelly shakes like a ball full of jelly
00:37:07And he comes down the chimney and says, ho, ho, ho
00:37:11And how did you kids learn all about this?
00:37:15Mr. Ranger told us
00:37:17Oh, he certainly can tell some whoppers
00:37:21Oh, no, it's true, Mom
00:37:23And no matter what, we're gonna stay up until Christmas Eve
00:37:28Oh, dear, and just when is this Christmas Eve?
00:37:35Well, uh, we don't know
00:37:38We sort of forgot to ask
00:37:40Great, it could be next July
00:37:43We'll go ask Mr. Ranger, okay?
00:37:46Oh, no, you don't
00:37:48You cubs wait here
00:37:50I'll have a talk with that Mr. Ranger
00:37:53I'll find out all about this Christmas business once and for all
00:38:00Do you think Christmas might be in July?
00:38:04I don't even know when July is
00:38:12There's a week, I'll have a talk with that
00:38:13I don't know when July is
00:38:54Ah, yes, tis indeed the season to be jolly.
00:39:11Uh-oh, good heavens, there's a bear at the door.
00:39:17It's old Nana.
00:39:20Wake up, Nana.
00:39:25Uh-huh, what?
00:39:27Wake up.
00:39:29You're blocking my door, dear.
00:39:32What are you doing here, anyhow?
00:39:35Oh, I just can't get any sleep with Nokomi and Chinook, all excited over this thing called Christmas.
00:39:43They're determined to stay up until Christmas Eve, whenever that is.
00:39:48Oh, I see.
00:39:51But it seems you're the only one who knows when that is.
00:39:55Say, who is Santa Claus with a bowl full of jelly and reindeer and all?
00:40:02Well, it's all sort of an old legend.
00:40:07You mean it's not true?
00:40:10Have you been fibbing to my kids?
00:40:14Why, no, not exactly.
00:40:16I thought you bears would be hibernating.
00:40:20Now, how can I hibernate with two cubs all excited over a Santa Claus who isn't even real?
00:40:27I don't mind losing a little sleep.
00:40:29But the kids will be so disappointed.
00:40:34Well, maybe they won't have to be.
00:40:37You know, I used to be an old department store Santa.
00:40:42And I still have my old outfit packed away.
00:40:45Why don't I just show up at your place on Christmas Eve, give a couple of ho-ho-hos, drop
00:40:52off a few goodies, and...
00:40:53And the cubs will have seen Santa, and we can all bed down for the winter.
00:40:59Oh, I just hope it works, or those cubs will be awfully sad and unhappy.
00:41:07See you tomorrow night, Mr. Ranger.
00:41:10Bye, Nana.
00:41:11I'll be there.
00:41:13You know, this might be fun.
00:41:16Ought to be a real nice old-fashioned Christmas.
00:41:43Oh, what a wonder of Christmas time.
00:41:54When children are waiting, intently debating,
00:42:02If Santa will ever appear.
00:42:08They're expecting a wonderful Christmas time,
00:42:14And it's ever so easy to see
00:42:19That the first sign of Chris Sprinkled
00:42:24All hearts will be jingling
00:42:28Through his jolly more ride
00:42:33And the wonder of Christmas time
00:42:46Oh, for the wonder of Christmas time
00:42:53The hollywood season we know
00:42:57And isn't it fun just pretending you're one
00:43:05Of the kids as they play in the snow
00:43:10There'll be times when you think of this Christmas time
00:43:18Many years, many years from today
00:43:24And I hope you'll remember
00:43:28His day in December
00:43:31As one that is both yours and mine
00:43:37As one that is both yours and mine
00:43:38As one that is both yours and mine
00:43:39As to me it's a wonder
00:43:41The wonder of Christmas time
00:43:56The wonder of Christmas time
00:43:57Of the world
00:43:57He's been at the end of Christmas time
00:43:57How could youw
00:43:57That youw
00:44:02That youw
00:44:06That youw
00:44:18Ah, Christmas Eve at last.
00:44:22Time for old Santa to make his rounds.
00:44:26Say, I don't look half bad.
00:44:29I don't suppose the real Saint Nick would mind me standing in
00:44:33to bring a little Christmas cheer to Yellowstone National Park.
00:44:45Ho, ho, ho.
00:44:47I guess I've got everything,
00:44:49including a couple of stockings full of goodies for Chinook and Nekome.
00:44:54Those cubs are in for a real treat.
00:44:57He-he-he-he-he.
00:45:24Oh, why did tonight have to be the night for our worst blizzard in years?
00:45:30Ho, ho, ho.
00:45:35I don't know.
00:45:35I don't know.
00:45:36Ho, ho.
00:45:39Ho.
00:45:41Ho, ho.
00:46:09Mom, what do you suppose Santa will bring you?
00:46:13Oh, I sort of expect a good winter's rest.
00:46:18I sure wish Santa would hurry up.
00:46:22Yeah, I'm tired.
00:46:25Oh, I'm sure he'll be here soon, kids.
00:46:30Yeah, we don't want to fall asleep.
00:46:33Hey, Chinook, wake up, wake up.
00:46:37Do you want a missing Santa?
00:46:40Uh-uh.
00:46:41Remember, Santa is coming.
00:46:44I hope.
00:46:52Ho, ho, ho, ho, ho!
00:46:55Oof, ho, ho!
00:46:57Ho, ho, ho!
00:47:12Roar!
00:47:39It's no use.
00:47:41I've got to stop
00:47:43before I get snowed in.
00:47:45I've got to wait
00:47:46till this snowstorm passes.
00:47:48I've got to move.
00:48:18Awful late.
00:48:20Has it stopped snowing, Mom?
00:48:23Not yet.
00:48:26Gosh, maybe Santa can't get through.
00:48:30Chinook, wake up.
00:48:52Oh, good.
00:48:54There's an old bus stop for summer visitors.
00:48:58At least it's got a roof.
00:49:00Oh, I'll wait out the storm in here.
00:49:07Phew.
00:49:09Where is Santa Claus?
00:49:11I can't stay awake much longer.
00:49:15I'm afraid I'll just have to tell them the sad truth.
00:49:20Even if it hurts.
00:49:22Come here, children.
00:49:26Do you think Santa's coming, Mom?
00:49:29Shouldn't he have been here?
00:49:32Well, dears, I'm afraid not.
00:49:34Perhaps it's best you know the truth.
00:49:38Santa is only Mr. Ranger
00:49:40dressed up in a red suit
00:49:43and wearing a false beard.
00:49:45You mean there's no real Santa Claus?
00:49:49No.
00:49:50No, not exactly.
00:49:51It's, well,
00:49:53it's sort of just a nice old story
00:49:55that the Ranger told.
00:49:57But rather than disappoint you,
00:49:59he decided to dress up like this Santa Claus
00:50:02and visit you tonight.
00:50:05But I guess he can't get through
00:50:07because of the bad storm outside.
00:50:10I guess Christmas is for people,
00:50:12not bears.
00:50:14I'm sorry, kids.
00:50:18Gee, no Santa?
00:50:21Besides, well,
00:50:23we're all together in our warm cave.
00:50:25That's sort of nice, isn't it?
00:50:27So let's, let's all go to bed
00:50:30and we'll talk all about this in the spring.
00:50:34Good night, kids.
00:50:45Good night, little ones
00:50:49And don't be sad
00:50:53Sleep away the troubles
00:50:57That you have had
00:51:01Eyes shut, little ones
00:51:05It's time for dreams
00:51:10Through the starlit heavens
00:51:13And still the moonbeams
00:51:18Sleep, oh, sleep, oh, sleep, little ones
00:51:23Rest your weary minds
00:51:30The best the day is dawning
00:51:36Tomorrow, love, you will find
00:51:44Good night, little ones
00:51:48Good night, little ones
00:51:49And don't be sad
00:51:53Sleep away the troubles
00:51:57That you have had
00:52:01Eyes shut, little ones
00:52:05It's time for dreams
00:52:10It's time for dreams
00:52:11Through the starlit heavens
00:52:14And still the moonbeams
00:52:19Soft, silent, and deep
00:52:24Drift gently off into sleep
00:52:31Dreams of peace
00:52:34Dreams of peace
00:52:34Fresh and new
00:52:36Are there waiting for you
00:52:42Good night, little one
00:52:47Good night, little one
00:53:02Good night, Mom
00:53:05Night
00:53:09Oh, I just wish there was a Santa Claus
00:53:25Ho, ho, ho, ho
00:53:27Ho, ho, ho
00:53:33Ho, ho, ho
00:53:37Great
00:53:38Now he shows up
00:53:49Oh, it's only Mr. Ranger
00:53:52Dressed up like Santa Claus
00:53:54And he's just trying to fool us
00:53:57Ho, ho, ho, ho
00:54:00Merry Christmas to all
00:54:03And to all a good night
00:54:07He just wanted you to have
00:54:09Have a nice Christmas, kids
00:54:11This is the worst Christmas
00:54:13I ever had
00:54:14Even if it is the only one
00:54:17Well, it's all over now, kids
00:54:19Let's try to forget
00:54:21And get some sleep
00:54:24Okay, Mom
00:54:26Good night
00:54:27Good night
00:54:28Good night
00:54:50Oh, dear
00:54:51It's almost morning
00:54:53Phew
00:54:54At last the storm quit
00:54:56I'd better get up to those bears
00:54:58I'm way overdue
00:55:20Oh, I just hope they're still waiting
00:55:27Anyone home?
00:55:28Santa Claus is here
00:55:30Ho, ho, ho
00:55:32Merry Christmas
00:55:34Merry Christmas, everyone
00:55:36Ho, ho, ho
00:55:42Hey, wake up
00:55:44It's me, Santa Claus
00:55:46Remember?
00:55:48Santa
00:55:48But you were already here
00:55:51I was
00:55:53I mean, I wasn't
00:55:54I just got here
00:55:56And I brought these stockings
00:55:57Full of
00:55:58Huh?
00:56:00Where did those other stockings come from?
00:56:03Didn't you bring them, Mr. Ranger?
00:56:07Well, no
00:56:08I mean, I'm not a ranger
00:56:10Oh, you know
00:56:14But how?
00:56:16Because a real Santa Claus
00:56:19Was already here
00:56:20Yippee!
00:56:21Hooray!
00:56:21There is a real Santa Claus
00:56:26Why, I
00:56:28I suppose
00:56:28There must be
00:56:32Oh, boy
00:56:34And he brought us
00:56:35Our Christmas stockings
00:56:38Ho, ho, ho
00:56:40Up, Donner
00:56:41Up, Whitson
00:56:44What's that?
00:56:46Could it be
00:56:47It's him
00:56:49Santa Claus
00:56:51Look
00:56:52Up in the sky
00:56:54Why, it is
00:56:55It is
00:56:56It's good old
00:56:57St. Nick
00:56:58And all his reindeer
00:57:02Bye, Santa
00:57:04Bye
00:57:05Merry Christmas
00:57:06Isn't Christmas wonderful?
00:57:10Good night, Mr. Ranger
00:57:12And thanks
00:57:13Yeah
00:57:14Thank you
00:57:15Good night
00:57:24Good night, kids
00:57:26Night, Nana
00:57:29See you in the spring
00:57:37Say
00:57:38Do you believe
00:57:40In Santa Claus
00:57:43I sure do
00:57:59All those lucky little bears
00:58:01You wanted to hear
00:58:03A Christmas story
00:58:04And that's what
00:58:05Really happened
00:58:06Oh, Uncle Bill
00:58:07You're a storyteller
00:58:09Well, I may have
00:58:10Stretched a point
00:58:11Here and there
00:58:12But those stockings
00:58:14Got there some way
00:58:15You explain it
00:58:16Is Santa Claus
00:58:17Gonna come down here
00:58:18Even though
00:58:19There isn't any snow
00:58:20Of course he will
00:58:22If you're good
00:58:23He'll go anyplace
00:58:25How would you like
00:58:26To see Squirt's
00:58:27Christmas party?
00:58:28Yeah
00:58:28Well, hurry up and eat
00:58:30He's getting ready
00:58:31To open up his presents
00:58:31Hurry, hurry
00:58:49The party's going to be closed
00:58:51And applied
00:58:51Because we want only
00:58:52Two of our friends
00:58:53To be here
00:58:55The Porpoises have worked hard
00:58:56To show
00:58:57And now they can do
00:58:58Anything they want
00:58:59I'm sure you kids
00:59:00Dream of all the things
00:59:01You would like Santa
00:59:02To bring you
00:59:02Christmas morning
00:59:04Candy, toys
00:59:05Books and clothes
00:59:06But I guess we all know
00:59:08What these characters want
00:59:09That's right
00:59:10A big box full of fish
00:59:12I don't know
00:59:13If these porpoises
00:59:14Believe in Santa Claus
00:59:15But we're going to make sure
00:59:16They remember Christmas
00:59:17So we have a present
00:59:18For each and every one
00:59:45At the next time
00:59:50To be
00:59:50Christmas time, the happiest time of the year.
00:59:57When children are waiting, intently debating, if that will ever appear.
01:00:09They're expecting a wonderful Christmas time.
01:00:16And it's ever so easy to see that the first sight of the spring,
01:00:25all hearts will be reaching the lead to his jolly old rhyme,
01:00:34and the wonder of Christmas time.
01:00:46Oh, for the wonder of Christmas time, the honey-wreath season we know.
01:00:58And isn't it fun, just pretending you're one of the kids,
01:01:06and the pain in the snow.
01:01:10There'll be times when you think of the wondrous time,
01:01:17many years, many years from today.
01:01:21And I hope you'll remember, this day in December,
01:01:29as one that is both yours and mine.
01:01:34As still be in some wonder, the wonder of Christmas time.
01:01:43Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
