While the rest of the world is getting ready for Christmas, all the bears in Bearbank are getting ready to sleep... except for Ted E. Bear. Ted gets curious about Christmas so he learns the meaning from Santa Claus himself.

25:53Today was a big day in Bear Bank.
25:55It was the day of the Honey Bowl Parade and the annual Honey Bowl Classic,
26:00two of the biggest events in the city of Bear Bank.
26:03Tonight's big story is not the beauty of the parade, although it was beautiful,
26:08and it's not the excitement of the football game, although it was exciting.
26:13Tonight's big story is how one little bear taught us all a great big lesson.
26:18That bear is Ted Edward Bear.
26:21Ted E. Bear for short.
26:25Our story begins several weeks ago when Ted decided to build a float and enter it in the Honey Bowl Parade.
26:33Ted's friend, Henry Bear, laughed.
26:36Henry told Bear Witness News,
26:38only big businesses build floats and enter them in the Honey Bowl Parade.
26:42I told Ted he was nuts.
26:44Ted was determined, though.
26:45He went to the parade office and talked with the Grand Marshal of the Honey Bowl Parade.
26:50See Emery Bear, the Grand Marshal, said,
26:54You can't have a float in the Honey Bowl Parade.
26:56It's a big, important parade, and you're just a little bear.
27:00Your float wouldn't be good enough.
27:03Ted returned home.
27:06He was not defeated.
27:07He said,
27:08I'm going to build a float anyway.
27:09When the Grand Marshal sees how good it is, he'll surely change his mind.
27:14Since Ted wasn't sure what to put on the float,
27:17he went to consult with his friend, Bum Bear.
27:22Bum Bear had served as superintendent of flowers for the city of Bear Bank.
27:26He is a noted authority on a number of subjects.
27:30Considering the outcome of today's Honey Bowl Parade,
27:33Bum must have given Ted E. Bear the correct advice.
27:36Yes, Bum Bear recounted the conversation for Bear Witness News.
27:43When the first bears came to this country, Bum explained,
27:47they didn't have fine clothes and big houses,
27:51but every year they gave thanks for the things they did have.
27:55They called the holiday Thanksgiving.
27:58Bum Bear went on to say,
28:00It was a wonderful holiday.
28:03Every year, bears would get together,
28:04cook a big turkey,
28:06and spend the day giving thanks.
28:09Why did the bears stop giving thanks, Ted asked.
28:13Oh, with the excitement of the Honey Bowl Parade
28:15and the football games on television,
28:18I guess they just forgot, answered Bum.
28:21That's wrong, said Ted.
28:23Bears have so many things to be thankful for.
28:27I will build a float to remind them.
28:29That was the beginning of Ted E. Bear's entry in the Honey Bowl Parade.
28:36The next step was building the float.
28:41Ted drew up a set of plans for his float.
28:44Then he gathered some old boards and a set of wheels,
28:48a hammer and nails.
28:50He built a huge horn of plenty and placed it on the float.
28:53His friend Henry cooked a turkey for decoration.
28:57Before the Honey Bowl Parade began this morning,
29:00Ted and his friend Henry pushed the float to the top of the hill
29:03on Bear Bank Boulevard.
29:05I'm sure the Grand Marshal will think our float is good, said Ted.
29:09Why, we might even win first prize.
29:12I don't know about that, said Henry.
29:14No, shouted the Grand Marshal.
29:19I will not allow that little homemade float in my parade.
29:23This is the Honey Bowl, not the Turkey Bowl.
29:28I knew it, said Henry.
29:30So Henry and Ted pushed the little float out of the way of the big parade.
29:38Then the parade began.
29:40The Grizzly University Marching Band played the Bear Bank Marching Song.
29:45The Grizzly Cow Bear Cheerleaders marched in perfect step.
29:49The crowd cheered.
29:52The Bear Bank Power and Light Company's float was fantastic.
29:57The Bear National Bank's float was beautiful.
30:01It showed what a wealthy town Bear Bank was.
30:06Bear Air, the airline of the Bears, entered a huge float.
30:10The Organic Honeyworks float showed the Bears' huge supply of honey.
30:19The parade was almost over.
30:22Ted E. Bear was disappointed.
30:25Not one of the floats said anything about giving thanks.
30:28He and Henry began to push the little homemade float home.
30:32But instead, it began to roll down Bear Bank Boulevard.
30:37Stop it, yelled Ted.
30:38I can't, said Henry.
30:40Ted said, oh no, we're going to be in the parade after all.
30:45The little float bumped and rolled down Bear Bank Boulevard.
30:48The crowd stopped cheering.
30:52The judges were puzzled.
30:54How did this little float get in the Honey Bowl Parade, they asked.
30:59Then a hush fell over the crowd.
31:01The Bears all realized they had forgotten the most important part of Thanksgiving.

31:13This afternoon, at the halftime ceremony at Honey Bowl Stadium, the judges announced the winning float in the big parade.
31:20All the floats were beautiful, the judges said.
31:26They showed us all the fine things we bears have.
31:29But one float was very special.
31:33It reminded us of something we almost forgot.
31:36That bears should be thankful for all those wonderful things.
31:40The first prize in the Honey Bowl Parade went to Ted E. Bear.
31:45The crowd cheered and applauded.

32:47But according to stories, all of the gruesome monsters that ever lived
32:51live on top of Monster Mountain.
32:57The leader of the monsters is Count Dracula.
33:00Mr. Dracula refused to be interviewed by our Bear Witness News reporters.
33:04But his secretary, Miss Witch, said that she remembered the incident.
33:08She told Bear Witness News the whole affair was just an election year stunt.
33:13According to reports, Count Dracula was planning his re-election campaign.
33:18In order to win, the count schemed and plotted.
33:22He told his secretary, I must do something rotten.
33:26Then all the monsters will really appreciate me.
33:30He thought and thought.
33:31What is the most rotten thing a monster could do?
33:35Aha, said Dracula.
33:37I will kidnap Santa Claus.
33:42Miss Witch replied.
33:43That is really rotten, boss.
33:46But how will we do it?
33:47We'll need anti-reindeer missiles.
33:50Some sort of surface to slay weapons.
33:52That'll cost a lot of money.
33:55Count Dracula shook his head.
33:57No, Miss Witch, he said.

34:06When he reads my letter, he will bring me a present.

34:23The two of them sat down to write a letter to Santa Claus.

34:43Count Dracula was careful to make the letter look as though it were written by a very young monster.
34:51Count Dracula put the letter in an envelope.

34:55When you're re-elected boss, the whole world will be an uglier place.
34:59The Count laughed.
35:00Now we must build a Santa trap.
35:06That's the way the story began.
35:08Bear Witness News sent reporters to the North Pole to interview Santa Claus.
35:12He confirmed he received Count Dracula's letter in the mail.
35:16He said he assumed the letter came from a little boy who wanted a spider for Christmas.
35:21I thought it was somewhat unusual, said Santa Claus, but we get lots of unusual requests.
35:27So I sent the elves out to catch a spider.
35:34Santa took off on Christmas Eve.
35:36He loaded his sleigh with a flight map, a thermos bottle full of hot soup, a list of good little boys and girls, and a sleigh full of presents.
35:45He visited a few homes.
35:47Then, consulting his flight map, he set a course for Monster Mountain.
35:51Count Dracula and Miss Witch waited.
35:57Is the Santa trap ready?
35:58Asked Miss Witch.
35:59Right there by the fireplace, giggled Dracula.
36:04When Santa pops down the chimney, he'll bounce right into the cage.
36:08Quiet, said Miss Witch.
36:10I hear him on the roof now.
36:12Santa Claus removed the carefully wrapped spider from his sleigh and slipped down Dracula's chimney.
36:17Dracula slammed the door of the cage and padlocked it.
36:29I've done it, said Dracula.
36:30I've captured Santa Claus.
36:32I must be the rottenest vampire alive, so to speak.
36:37When the monsters see what I have done, I will get every vote on Monster Mountain.
36:42You are fantastic, boss, said Miss Witch.
36:45Why, you'll not only be re-elected, you'll probably win the most evil player award.
36:53At this point, our story moves to Bear Bank and Ted E. Bear.
36:58As you know, bears sleep all winter.
37:01They hibernate.
37:03Most bears go to sleep about half past fall and don't wake up until about a quarter till spring.
37:09As it happened, Ted Edward Bear, Ted E. Bear for short, had stayed up to watch the late show.
37:17Ted lives in the Bear Arms Apartments on Bear Bank's northwest side.
37:24As Ted E. Bear tells the story, he was sitting in a chair next to the window.
37:29He had just about dozed off for the winter when he heard a noise that sounded like sleigh bells.
37:35He yawned and glanced at the window.
37:39Outside in the snow, he saw eight reindeer.
37:42Ted dashed outside.
37:44He saw Santa's sleigh and Santa's reindeer, but no Santa.
37:49That's very odd, Ted thought.
37:51So the young bear looked inside the sleigh.
37:54There was a Christmas list and a flight map.
37:57Ted studied the flight map.
37:59Sure enough, Santa had circled Monster Mountain, and the first name on the Christmas list was Count Dracula.
38:08Uh-oh, thought Ted.
38:09Those monsters must be up to something.
38:12Maybe I should get some help.
38:14Ted glanced about Bear Bank.
38:16Every home was dark.
38:18All the other bears had gone to sleep for the winter.
38:21If anybody was going to help, it would have to be Ted.
38:25But what could he do?
38:26He had never flown a bear plane, let alone a sleigh.
38:31Well, said Teddy, flying a sleigh can't be that hard.
38:35Ted hopped into the sleigh.
38:37He cracked the whip and yelled to the reindeer.
38:40Giddy up, reindeer!
38:44And the sleigh began a bumpy take-off roll.
38:50Within seconds, the sleigh was airborne.
38:52Whoa!
38:53Ted almost fell out as the sleigh rolled from one side to the other.
38:59Oh, boy!
39:01The sleigh pitched up, then back down.
39:05I take that back, said Ted.
39:07Flying a sleigh is very hard.
39:09In an earlier interview with Bear Witness News,
39:15Ted E. Bear admitted he never really got the hang of flying a sleigh.
39:20In fact, he said, he looked silly, rolling, diving, and climbing through the sky.
39:25He flew from Bear Bank to Monster Mountain.
39:31Ted said he was shocked and saddened by what he saw.
39:34Count Dracula had placed the Santa trap in front of Madison's Scare Garden.
39:40Monsters were gathering to see Santa locked in the cage.
39:44Dracula was delivering a campaign speech.
39:47Vote for me, he told the monsters.
39:49I have captured Santa Claus and put an end to Christmas.
39:53The monsters all cheered.
39:54This left Ted E. Bear in a terrible dilemma.
40:01What could one little bear do against all the monsters on Monster Mountain?
40:05If he landed the sleigh, he would surely be captured.
40:09But if Santa Claus wasn't rescued, there would be no Christmas.
40:13Or would there?
40:17Ted had Santa's flight map and his Christmas list,
40:21and all the presents were packed in the sleigh.
40:23The monsters might stop Santa Claus, Ted said,
40:26but they won't stop Christmas.
40:29Ted E. Bear went to work.
40:33The little bear worked all night.
40:39He flew from city to city around the world.
40:45He checked Santa's list carefully.
40:47He leapt into chimney after chimney with sacks full of presents.
40:55The soot from all those chimneys turned Ted E. Bear into a little ball of black dirt.
41:00Ted wondered how Santa kept his clothes clean.
41:04Whoa, reindeer!
41:05Finally, just as Christmas Day was dawning, he flew back to Monster Mountain.
41:13There were a few presents left over.
41:15Santa Claus always packs extras in his sleigh.
41:18So Teddy placed them in the homes of little goblins and ghouls.
41:22He even left a new boom for Miss Witch.
41:25Then he drove the sleigh to the alley behind Madison's Scare Garden.
41:30And brushing off all the soot from all those chimneys,
41:33Ted E. Bear walked right into the crowd of monsters.
41:39Count Dracula, long-winded politician that he was,
41:43was still making his campaign speech.
41:46I have put an end to Christmas, he shouted.
41:49No, you haven't, said Teddy.
41:51Every monster turned to look at the sooty little bear.
41:55Said Ted, Christmas will continue, even if Santa is locked in your trap.
42:01Count Dracula looked around.
42:03Sure enough, little ghouls and young goblins began to appear carrying packages.
42:09One monster waved a candy cane.
42:12Another pulled a brand-new ducky.
42:16Miss Witch smiled and held a new broom.
42:19I think this dirty little bear is right, boss, she said.
42:22Look, I got a new broom for Christmas.
42:25Dracula studied Ted with a sad look.
42:30Then, I haven't stopped Christmas, he said.
42:33This is politically embarrassing.
42:36It could turn into a Santa gate.
42:38I could lose the election.
42:41Ted smiled.
42:42You won't lose the election.
42:44Look, all the monsters are happy.
42:47Dracula looked.
42:48That's strange.
42:49Nobody's ever been happy on Monster Mountain.
42:53Ted E. Bear smiled.
42:55That's what Christmas does.
42:57It makes everybody happy.
43:00In fact, you'd get a lot more votes if you let Santa Claus out of that cage.
43:04Hmm, said Count Dracula.
43:07Maybe I would.
43:08He unlocked the cage.
43:11The monsters cheered.
43:12Miss Witch was delighted.
43:16Vote for Count Dracula, she shouted.
43:19He brought Christmas to Monster Mountain.
43:24And that's the bear witness news story of how Christmas came to Monster Mountain.
43:29Bear Bank resident Ted E. Bear reported that Santa Claus was very happy to be released.
43:34And the monsters were so happy, they held a giant Christmas party.
43:39Santa, by the way, promised to come back to Monster Mountain next year.
43:43If the monsters were very good.
43:46Before Santa Claus left to return to the North Pole, he took Ted to his sleigh and said,
43:52You gave away all the presents, Ted.
43:55And there's nothing left for you.
43:58That's all right, Ted said.
44:00Oh, no, said Santa Claus.
44:02He walked to his team of reindeer and plucked a silver bell from Blitzen's harness.
44:07Here, said Santa, and take this flight map, just in case you have to help me again.
44:13He handed Ted a North Pole flight map.
44:17Santa Claus hopped into a sleigh and gracefully circled into the sky.
44:21Merry Christmas, Ted E. Bear, he called out.
44:24Ted watched as Santa disappeared into the night sky.
44:27He said, Boy, I wish I could fly a sleigh like that.
44:35As I said at the beginning of our report, Ted E. Bear was very sleepy when the story happened.
44:41When he got back to Bear Bank, he went to sleep for the winter.
44:45In the spring, when he awoke, he found the sleigh bell and flight map lying beside his bed.
44:51He told the story to Bear Witness News.
44:54Then, this young Bear Bank resident took the sleigh bell and flight map given to him by Santa Claus
45:00and donated them to the Bear Bank Museum.
45:04Today, if you go to the museum, you'll be able to see this very unique exhibit.
45:11And that's the story of how Christmas came to Monster Mountain.
