Timex Datalink, Long before smartwatches existed, Microsoft and Timex Group created a digital watch that could sync data from a computer. It was called the Timex Datalink.

Launched in the 1990s, the Timex Datalink could store phone numbers, appointments, reminders, and sync them wirelessly from a computer screen to the watch. 🤯

At a time when most watches only showed the time, this felt incredibly futuristic.

The watch even received data through flashing light patterns from a computer monitor — no cable needed.

Despite the innovation, it remained a niche product because:
• Technology was still limited
• Most people didn’t need smart features on a watch yet
• It was too advanced for its time

Today, many people see it as one of the earliest smartwatch concepts ever created.
