01:00Many of them very successfully over the past few years
01:03And we'll have over 100 people this evening
01:05Which is showing how much we are growing
01:07For example, in our key print categories
01:10We are number one in the ink tank range
01:13And I think that's reflected by the number of people that will be coming tonight
01:18Similarly on projection
01:19We have lots of amazing opportunities to discuss with customers
01:24We've been very successful
01:25We have a very high market share in Morocco and the wider region
01:29On projection technology, for example
01:31And the key message would be that we are continuing to invest in this country
01:37We have an office here with just under 30 people
01:39We're here to serve you, to understand your needs
01:42And also, as this is an organisation that is based in the Middle East Africa region
01:48We're here to listen to you
01:49To get your feedback about future product planning
01:52That we can then talk to the factory
01:54Epson owns all of its key technologies
01:57Its core technologies
01:58Therefore, we're able to influence the product planning
02:01To help better serve customers in this region
02:09I mentioned that Epson manufactures its core technologies
02:12And this is the key around Epson 35
02:14That Japanese manufacturing, we still believe, is at the pinnacle of manufacturing
02:20Obviously, we're competing against China
02:23Against Europe, against Korea, for example
02:25We believe very strongly in research and development
02:28We invest over $300 million every year in R&D
02:32And in fact, we have investments considerably higher than that
02:36In some of our opportunities that involve recycling, upcycling, that kind of thing
02:42So, it's about getting back to our engineered excellence
02:45It's also about looking and investing in other areas that could be interesting
02:50So, for example, we're involved in the upcycling process of alloy materials
02:56So that we're able to put them back into the manufacturing process
03:00A company called Atmix is a good example
03:02And that's about the art and science of manufacturing
03:05This is the principle of Epson 35
03:07Which is going into, continuing to invest
03:11But going further into areas like sensing technology
03:15As well as finished goods technology
03:18Such as printing and projectors
03:19There's a lot more to Epson than you might see
03:22From just the finished goods you see in the shops
03:25There's a huge amount that we do
03:26In terms of in the supply chain
03:29Silicon with our supply chain manufacturing
03:32Doing all these things
03:33This is the principle of Epson 35
03:35It's getting back to our core roots
03:37Of being an innovative engineering company
03:39Yeah, that's just referring to what I said before
03:43About that $300 million of annual research and development
03:46That's just a basic amount of money
03:48We also invest more in specific areas
03:51So I mentioned a little bit about that Atmix company before
03:54That's one that we've invested heavily in
03:56In opening up a new plant
03:58So over $30 million in that
03:59And this region itself
04:02That we incorporated
04:04Only just under two years ago
04:07Headquartered in Dubai
04:08But it's an office and an operation
04:10That runs in this region
04:12That is a big investment as well
04:13So we have over 300 people in this region
04:16I mentioned before we have just under 30 people in Morocco
04:19And of course this is also the investment
04:21We have two demonstration facilities
04:23One in Dubai, one in Johannesburg
04:25These are big investments as well
04:271,000 metres squared, 500 metres squared
04:29We have a demonstration facility here in Casablanca
04:33For example
04:34All of these things are investments that we will do
04:37To grow the revenue in the future
04:44I'm always impressed when I come to Morocco
04:46Every time it seems to get even more exciting
04:51I really enjoy coming here
04:53And I see how it's modernising almost in between visits
04:57I come here about every six months
04:59And I have been doing so for a number of years
05:02Every time I come they have even more investment
05:05We met with the Minister of Education yesterday
05:07For example
05:08Here in Rabat
05:10And we were so impressed by not just the vision
05:13That they have for education in Morocco
05:15But also the fact that they've achieved so much
05:17In terms of improving the education needs of children
05:20And that's something that we've been involved with
05:22Because if you go into a lot of Moroccan schools
05:24You'll see Epson technology in the classroom
05:27And this is a good example of partnership
05:31Epson is very strong in areas like education
05:34Not just on projection but also print technology
05:36And Morocco is really at the head of the curve
05:39Of understanding this
05:41So when we look at the amount of projectors in schools in Morocco
05:44Compared to other African countries
05:46It's very very high
05:48And that is a very good example
05:49Similarly when we look at the amount of
05:54Soho SMB type printers that we sell in Morocco
05:57It's also very very high
05:58So I believe that Morocco is a country
06:01There's a lot of investment in this country
06:03Both investment from the government
06:05But also foreign investment
06:06And I believe that this is just the beginning
06:08Of this incredible story
06:10You have the World Cup coming in a few years time
06:12There's a lot of infrastructure projects built around this
06:16I'm just incredibly impressed by the education
06:20Universities, colleges, schools that we have in this country
06:22So you can see that the next generation
06:24Are going to be very highly educated
06:26And then they'll build this next Morocco
06:29For the next 10, 20, 30 years
06:36Let me answer those two separately
06:39So first of all environmental commitment
06:42We are a Japanese company
06:45That is headquartered in a beautiful part of Japan
06:48They call it the Japanese Alps
06:49So it's in the middle of Japan
06:51Near Nagano Prefecture
06:53So environment is fundamental to us
06:57Since 1942
06:58Since we have created
06:59Because everybody lives and works
07:02In this beautiful part of Japan
07:04So therefore if I give you the example
07:06Of our print technology
07:07Our print technology is a cold technology
07:09It uses precision core
07:10Micro-Piesel technology
07:12It doesn't heat
07:13So it's not
07:13Unlike laser
07:14It doesn't heat
07:15It doesn't have a drum fuse
07:16There's no heat in the print head either
07:19Why am I telling you this?
07:20Because what it means is
07:21That we can reduce the cost by about 90%
07:24Because the cold technology
07:25Therefore it doesn't require as much electricity
07:28And this is just an example I've given you
07:30I mentioned about the Atmix company before
07:33Which is part of this sort of recycling
07:37Parts of silicon wafer
07:38And other materials
07:39That go then back into the manufacturing supply chain
07:45We have a paper lab
07:47Which is a paper recycling machine
07:50So it can have this sort of closed loop environment
07:52So you can print paper
07:53At low cost
07:54As I mentioned before
07:56Up to 90%
07:57But also then you can recycle it
07:59And then it comes out with new paper again
08:01So this is all around
08:03Lowering the environmental cost
08:05This is what we're trying to do
08:07We're trying to increase productivity
08:09But do it in a sustainable way
08:11You mentioned about AI
08:12AI we're already implementing
08:14Some of our manufacturing processes today
08:16It does take time with AI
08:18There's a lot of cyber security around AI
08:20As well
08:21But it is something that's very very much
08:23Not just on our radar
08:25But something we're already actively doing
08:27Within manufacturing
08:28Because it can really improve productivity
08:31In manufacturing as well
08:33It can reduce a lot of defects
08:34And these kind of things
08:35But we're looking at AI
08:37To transform our operations
08:39Over the next 5, 10, 15 years
08:41It does take time
08:43Everybody wants to talk about it
08:45So time to execution is important with AI
08:48We're using AI every day
08:49In our offices and our operations
08:51Here in the Middle East
08:53And we've reduced thousands of man hours
08:55To seconds in some cases with process
08:58It's a little bit episodic at the moment
09:01We want to create a story
09:02And that story will be over the next few years
09:05With AI
09:11Well the thing that inspires me the most
09:13Is the people that I work with
09:15Not just the people within the company
09:17But also the people that I get to meet
09:19I love the travel
09:21We are in over 80 countries in our region
09:23It's the biggest in terms of number of countries
09:25In the world
09:27And it's always a privilege and a pleasure
09:29To visit so many wonderful places
09:33I think that's great
09:34So what excites me about technology
09:36I think working within technology
09:40And being in tech leadership
09:42I think it's the pace of change
09:44Which is amazing
09:45But what is interesting about technology
09:48Is it moves very fast
09:49But there are still traditional technologies
09:51That continue to exist
09:52We're still watching in an audio-visual way
09:55That's actually quite similar
09:57To previous generations
09:58We're still printing for example
10:00But we're just doing it in a more efficient way
10:02And we're doing it with less environmental cost
10:06So for example we do garment printing
10:10So if you get some very very nice expensive dresses from Italy
10:13Some of them will be printed on Epson technology
10:16But we've reduced huge amounts of water waste
10:19By using dry fibre technology for example
10:22Or using digital printing
10:23So what I'm enjoying is that
10:25We're taking technology
10:26And we're making it even more productive
10:28And we're reducing the environmental cost
10:31Because everybody talks about the environment
10:33And therefore I think we need to look at the environment
10:36With technology
10:38And not just say technology for the sake of
10:40With no cost
10:42What we can say is
10:43Yes
10:43This is Epson's core philosophy
10:47Let's produce really interesting technological advancements
10:50But let's not do it at the expense of society
10:52Let's not do it with an environmental cost
10:55And that's what I like about working at Epson
10:58Because they balance technology
11:01Productivity with environmental cost
11:04And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:09And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:12And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:12And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:12And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:16And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:19And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:20And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:20And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:22And that's what I like about working at Epson
11:23And that's what I like about working at Epson
