National badminton singles coaching director Kenneth Jonassen on May 22 said the coaches are happy with the performance of women's singles shuttler K. Letshanaa in the Malaysia Masters.

He said Letshanaa's breakthrough win over Japan's world No. 9 Tomoka Miyazaki in the second round would boost her confidence that she has what it takes to play against top players.

00:02Of course it's been a good run. Getting through the first match was essential because the flow
00:16wasn't really there. Then yesterday where everything kind of went into quite perfect
00:23for her where she managed to play with high quality shot but at the same time
00:30fight and defend really well and keep the momentum going for as long as she
00:35could all the time which was very positive and then today with the very
00:42strong start then kind of her opponent found the way and it was difficult for
00:50Luciana to get into that kind of movement and flow she needed to win. So a lot of
00:55learning opportunities also from today but yeah when we will assess, we will assess
01:02each match individually and there's a lot of positive to take away and a lot of
01:08learning opportunities even in today's loss.
01:21It's difficult to say that I expect her to beat world number nine. That would be
01:25unfair to a player that is ranked within the thirties. However as being part of the
01:31process with her I've seen the step by step she's been able to take the talk she's had
01:37with us. I've seen the the potential when she gets it right that she can
01:45challenge not at least at the Uber Cup where she played against really top top
01:50world-class players and were able to challenge. Didn't get any wins as such but the
01:56way she played the discipline it took and the quality kind of led to something so
02:04we've seen she's been able to take maybe a game of somebody and but not been able to
02:09do and so yesterday was a positive step forward. Most importantly it's in the
02:15player's own belief in in herself and her ability that what she's working on she
02:21now has something that okay I actually can and I do also in some sense say I
02:26belong at a higher level. So that is the difficult part also for a lot of young
02:31players to get the final belief that they actually have the ability and do
02:36belong there. So yeah positive step.
02:40How about Lin Ting? Do you feel that she's also trending in the right direction?
02:46Yeah she's on the more or less the same path also things has even happened over the
02:53last year and a half faster for her because she was outside top 80 so a lot of
02:59things has happened very fast this is also a process that takes time to
03:02comprehend then suddenly dealing with expectation now because I've beaten should
03:09I do it every time you like to think it's possible but it nobody does so it's
03:15again getting more mature getting more acceptance so for me it's exactly the same
03:20if you're talking about women's singles or even our younger singles it's the same
03:26the same process step by step and not getting ahead of your help yourself
