Former women's world squash champion Datuk Nicol David has penned a heartfelt message to Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, whose gallant run in the Paris Olympics ended with defeat to Japan’s Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida on Aug 3. David who is also Malaysia's deputy chef de mission met with the pair after their tough defeat, offering her words of encouragement. 00:13The Malaysian pair suffered a heartbreaking loss in the semi-final on Friday and the bronze

00:21Deputy Chef de Mission Datuk Nicole David said on her social media accounts that Tan

00:26and Thina had made the whole country dream.

00:30She said they showed true sportsmanship and their performances will forever define them.

00:36She said the semi-final loss was brutal and the pair had put everything they had trying

00:41to reach the final.

00:42She said the pain of losing is one will struggle to let go and she admires their quality of

00:48trusting each other.

00:50Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said she reminded Tan and Thina that at the heart

00:56of Malaysia's chase for gold is the spirit of excellence for Malaysian athletes and the

01:01younger generation to carry in every assignment and task they do.

01:06She said the pair had given their all and she could not ask for more.

01:11Retired badminton legend Datuk Lee Chong Wei said the two are already Malaysian heroines

01:17and everyone in the country are proud of them.

01:20Thina thanked the people for their support saying that they are sorry for coming home

01:25empty handed but they hope they inspire everyone with their performances.

01:30Yeoh also threw support for sprinter Mohamed Azim Fahmy who ended his Olympics campaign

01:36without bettering the national record or his personal best.

01:40She said Azim is only 20 years old and he was given a wild card for the 100 metre event.

01:47She said to see the athletes after their defeat is not easy but she still wants to make it

01:52a point to tell them not to give up and that Malaysia stands with them.
