Former men’s doubles shuttler Koo Kien Keat expressed disappointment after missing out on a top coaching role with Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

While his dream of becoming a coach in BAM seems over, Kien Keat’s experience could still prove invaluable as he is currently lending his expertise to the independent doubles team which include world No. 7 Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani.

He also noted that defending champions Seo Seung-jae and Kim Won-ho’s strong form makes it challenging for a Malaysian pair to secure a home victory.

00:30Bukan kecewa tetapi saya ada kerja saya sendiri sekarang dengan lebih committed lah 2026 ni.
00:40So saya rasa sebagai satu coach yang bagus saya rasa adalah bila coach itu masih muda lagi.
00:52Jadi bukannya muda as in like muda timbul 30 tu maksud saya masih muda masih boleh spar ataupun menunjukkan skill-skill tu kepada player lah.
01:05Sebab cuma cakap saja tu mungkin player tu tidak masuk dan tidak faham juga.
01:12So ya saya rasa kalau lagi 4 tahun-3 tahun saya sudah tidak boleh lah.
01:17You rasa kalau you dah 4 tahun orang baru nak ambil you sebagai coach you dah expired lah.
01:22Bukan expired I mean cuma cakap it's like a lecturer you know siapa boleh jadi lecturer kan I mean sebagai lecturer saya tak nak lah jadi coach.
01:33I am you know me right I mean I am more to like a skill player so I like to be more practical and you know hands on.
01:46So by saying that dengan you kata you dah tak ada hati tapi kalau dalam 3-4 tahun ni datang offer you still boleh terima.
01:54Kalau double mungkin boleh fikir juga.
01:56Kalau double yang nak offer ni orang.
01:58Double offer lah.
01:59Everyone got a prize lah but anyway I don't think it will happen lah.
02:02For local coach.
02:03Yeah.
02:04You know semua senyum lah.
02:04So untuk Dating 3 you harap boleh bawa 2-3 ke Olympic you rasa?
02:11Tak adalah tak ada.
02:12I tak ada masa macam tu lah.
02:16So I pun tak nak sebagai satu coach yang tak ada committed you know.
02:22Okay aku macam you cakap kau ada double tak apa.
02:27Mungkin benda ni you pun dah tengok zaman user player.
02:30Macam mana apa ni mungkin nilai coach tempatan tu sangat sangat tidak dinilaikan berbandingkan coach luar.
02:40Ya saya saya saya masa tu saya juga harapkan bila saya ditawarkan oleh BM saya harapkan saya orang pertama orang tempatan yang tidak pernah jadi coach di Malaysia ni harapkan yang dapat satu tawaran yang tinggi for a good start for the next local coach.
03:00Tapi tak jadilah.
03:02Tak jadilah.
03:03So it's okay lah I mean.
03:25Tentu lah.
03:26So I mean it's normal it's normal it's normal.
03:31So looking at the Malaysian Open this year chances for our men's doubles it's a long time since won the title.
03:38You have won before last time Govisham, Nikinua won, Ubebi 14.
03:42So what do you feel left about the chances?
03:45To be honest I think I'm honest I'm not in BM I'm not in I'm not any coaches to be honest.
03:50If you ask me I think the Korean pair is very consistent.
03:54I'm pretty sure that they will be in finals anyway.
03:58So there is a chance to be in finals as well.
04:02You know for Malaysia players.
04:03So to win Malaysia Open that one I don't really know and I'm not convinced.
04:09So it's going to be a tough tough tough one and I think based on the condition now I think seriously only the Korean pair that I think that there will be champions of finals and the rest is like still open up you know like probably now Fajah the pair.
04:32Yeah so but the rest is all open up you know okay all right thank you thank you thank you thank you.
