Transcript
00:00So here we are in the Rovers with His Excellency for the unveiling of the Governor's Ale.
00:05How do you feel about an ale being named in your honour?
00:08Well it's named after the appointment rather than me but no it's fantastic and I'm really
00:13chuffed to be able to come down and pull the first pint although I did have a pre-sample
00:19at the ale and cider or the beer and cider festival but it's it's very good indeed and
00:25it has remarkable curative properties so it will sort my arm out no doubt.
00:32So you'll be on you'll be on the men shortly?
00:35Absolutely, absolutely.
00:36What does it taste like?
00:38It tastes like a good ale.
00:42A good ale, you'd recommend it?
00:44Oh 100 percent, 100 percent. It goes down as you can see it's slipped down very easily
00:48even at 11 o'clock in the morning.
00:50And obviously hospice is the chosen charity. What made you choose hospice?
00:56Well I think that what hospice do is quite extraordinary and so many so many members
01:08of our community in some way have been involved with hospice have been engaged with hospice and
01:13they've helped hospice and hospice has helped their families and I think that you know given
01:21where we are in the world in terms of the cost of living crisis and everything I think you know
01:26everything is tight and so everything we do must recognize that we should we should be helping hospice
01:33and you know buy 20 pence and from each pint is going to hospice. I think that's great so the
01:40answer is
01:41you know drink drink this ale and we can help hospice.
01:45And you're doing a good thing?
01:46Well I think it's it's important it's it's really important. Hospice is such a it's part of the DNA
01:52of the island and we should be supporting it in every way we can.
01:56So here we are with the lovely Fiona from hospice. How are you?
01:59I'm very good thank you.
02:00Good so how do you feel you know for yourself for hospice to be involved in this?
02:07I just think it's such a lovely thing it sort of combines you know Bushy's number one is such
02:12it's it's such a known name on the Isle of Man um it's all about the community um it's lovely
02:19that
02:19they've come up with the idea of making this ale uh for his excellency and then also that the you
02:23know
02:24the governor selected hospice to be the charity that benefits from it.
02:28So here we are with Martin um how do you feel about governor's ale this is an exciting project?
02:33It is I mean we've we did actually 20 years ago we did a governor's ale when um Sir Ian
02:40McFadden was uh
02:42he was up at the government house and um for some reason we we haven't um we haven't been doing
02:47it
02:48uh frequently but we just thought it'd be a lovely time to uh to get it going again and uh
02:53thankfully
02:53um his excellency agreed to do it and obviously you know TT fortnight is fast approaching preparations
03:00are underway are you hoping that this is going to be a big seller over TT? Absolutely um no I
03:06mean
03:07we're gonna I think we'll be selling a lot of beer anyway um apart from the launch now um there
03:13will be
03:14several other occasions um to be able to uh to give the beer a push during Sir John Lauren's tenure
03:20and uh yeah hopefully it'll it'll go down well and at the same time uh raise money for hospice
03:28and then final question I did ask his excellency this but what sort of flavour wise does it taste like?
03:34It's uh well it's it's I think you saw in the pictures it's a very pleasant looking uh golden ale
03:40it's um it's got um traditional uh British hops in it uh no it's just it's not overly hoppy it's
03:46just
03:47a very classic um traditional British ale which uh yeah I think it should go down with everyone
03:53well thank you very much
