Torre says police cannot choose whether to arrest or not Bato del Rosa over ICC warrant

Former Philippine National Police chief Nicholas Torre III says the duty of police officers to implement lawful warrants amid the possible arrest of Sen. Ronald dela Rosa should not be treated as a personal conflict between officials or politicians, but as part of the legal process that law enforcers are sworn to carry out. Torre was responding to comments that dela Rosa would already have been arrested if he were still serving as PNP chief. Speaking at the Kapihan sa Manila Hotel on May 22, 2026, Torre said police officers could not selectively enforce or choose whether to implement a warrant or not but should 'protect the process' and allow the legal system to 'roll its natural course.'

00:00It's not about a person. It's not about me. It's not about Senator Bato.
00:04It is about a process. It is about a system. It is about a law.
00:08And it is about a job.
00:09Na, decision mo na lang, personally, kung ano ikaw ang putusan, whether you do it or not.
00:30At yan, isa tingin ko, we have to respect the process, let the systems work.
00:38Because, police as an enforcement, hindi po pwedeng mamili ka kung ano ang, kung alin ang i-implement mo, alin
00:45ang hindi.
00:45Because at the end of the day, the job of the police is not to judge the case, but to
00:50implement the processes.
00:52And in this case, the waran.
00:53So, they have to do it, protect the process, let it roll in its natural force, and most especially, protect
01:02the institution.
01:03Because ultimately, it is the thing that we protect here.
01:08At the foremost consideration, na dapat natin maproteksyonan, ay ang interes ng bansa.
01:13You, it's my God.
01:16I'll let my own family.
01:17So, the Senators.
01:24You, it's my God.
01:33So, I'm never my God.
01:34You, it's my God.
01:41I'll let my own family.
01:41Let's stand up.
01:42You
