Domestic and sexual violence services facing funding shortfalls have been thrown a lifeline with a 44-million-dollar package from the ACT government. The pre-budget announcement will be partly funded by an increase to the 'safer families' levy.

00:23violence crisis.
00:24Next month's territory budget will include $44 million over four years to help tackle
00:31the scourge.
00:32This is a substantial package and importantly it provides certainty to the community sector
00:38organisations responding to domestic, family and sexual violence.
00:43The investment includes more than $18 million for frontline services, almost $7 million for
00:50behaviour change programs, $4 million for programs supporting child victims and $2 million for
00:57Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander services.
00:59For us this funding means that we will be able to keep our doors open for the next four
01:04years.
01:04We will not be able to answer every call with this funding but we will continue to triage
01:09to prioritise the calls that are most important.
01:12A chunk of the money will come from the Safer Families levy paid by ratepayers.
01:17It was increased to $60 this financial year and will go up to $70 come July.
01:24The levy will then be raised by $5 increments for the following three financial years.
01:29We do recognise that this may have an impact on households and so it does need to be sustainable.
