01:30Covering most of the country's west coast, its vibrant surfing scene is ranked tenth in the world.
01:38It's also one of Costa Rica's top tourist destinations.
01:44With a cost of living thirty percent lower than in the U.S., it's a hugely desirable property hotspot
01:52where you can still find a dream home for under one hundred and fifty thousand U.S. dollars.
01:58This move has been on my mind since the first time I came to Costa Rica twelve years ago.
02:04Yvonne and I met when I was here on vacation and we have dated, but now we're friends.
02:11Meeting Yvonne definitely played a role in my decision to move to Costa Rica.

02:28In Connecticut, I worked a lot and I didn't have a lot to show for it at the end of

02:33I would say my monthly bills in Connecticut were roughly six thousand dollars a month.

02:42That's why I had three jobs. Just trying to make all of that work.
02:46So, I'm here to help Jennifer to find her new house.
02:51Finding a new place for her that fit in this new lifestyle that she wanted to get.

03:53I actually was in real estate in Connecticut, so very busy, 24-7, and not a lot of downtime.
04:02So, I'm kind of at a point in my life where I'm looking to relax and slow down
04:07and just take things a little bit easier.
04:09I'm born and raised here in Costa Rica.
04:12I grew up in Punta Arenas, and I'm gonna be here helping her,
04:16trying to figure out what's the best for her.
04:19We have a lot of love and respect for each other,
04:21so I wouldn't trust anyone more than Yvonne to help me with this process.

04:27So, what's on the line for you here financially with this move?
04:30What budget are we looking at?
04:32I would like to stay between $190,000 to $210,000 U.S. dollars.
04:38I know a lot of the properties here come furnished.
04:41I definitely need to have two bedrooms and two full bathrooms,
04:44because having the opportunity to rent out the second room is ideal for me.
04:49And it has to be pet-friendly, because I do have a dog.
04:52I'd like to be walking distance to the beach.
04:55I would like to have a pool, and I would prefer it to be turnkey.
04:58Well, I've spent a ton of time here, and I feel pretty confident

15:24Further along the coast, and viewable from the apartment's roof terrace, is one of Costa
15:29Rica's most spectacular beaches.
15:33Okay, so this is Playa Hermosa Beach.
15:35This beach is very special for Costa Rica.
15:37So it was actually Costa Rica's first protected surfing zone.
15:41So that's why you're not going to see the same kind of development here.
15:45You know, you can see all the trees.
15:46It looks a little bit more quiet, right?

15:50It feels really secluded, and it's so beautiful.
15:55Next up, just under a 20-minute drive from Hermosa Beach, is the coastal community of
16:02Herradura.
16:05Spanish for horseshoe, this town gets its name from the nearby crescent-shaped beach.
16:12With the average price of a two-bedroom house in Connecticut costing around $350,000,
16:19In this gated community, Jennifer could have an off-plan house built, just like this show home, for a fraction
16:27of the price.

19:44I did really want to be walking distance to the beach, but I might be able to compromise.
20:01So what did you think about the showroom home?
20:04Oh, that's the one that I really like.
20:06I hadn't considered living in a gated community, and I'm not sure if it's too big for me, but it's
20:12not as close to the beach as I wanted to be.
20:14I thought that the Seaview apartment was on the smaller side, but it did have that rooftop terrace.
20:21What do you think about the two unit home?
20:24I really like that one.
20:26Being just under $200,000, I really think that is a great value for everything that it has to offer.
20:32This could be too good of an opportunity to pass up.
20:35So I'm thinking that I'm going to make an offer.
