00:33Arriva infatti in Europa, arriva proprio nella capitale italiana Future of Investment Initiative,
01:07Welcome, it's a pleasure having you today.
01:09Thank you so much for having me.
01:18So FII Institute was born six years ago as a not-for-profit foundation to become the vehicle
01:27owning and hosting the FII conference which was born ten years ago in Riyadh.
01:33The FII Institute has one mission, is to bring people together to have an impact on humanity.
01:42Our community are the investors of the world, not only the big, all size, including start-ups.
01:49And what we want to convey as a message is it's important to invest for good, to invest with purpose.
01:57This is how you have an impact on humanity.
01:59So the other point, which is extremely important, is that our community is a global community,
02:09is a community of CEOs, political leaders, media, start-ups, academia, Nobel Prize laureates,
02:19and all together are meeting quite often to understand where the money should go in terms of sectors and in
02:29terms of geographies.
02:30This is a value proposition of FII.
03:06In Hong Kong.
03:07A Hong Kong.
03:08In Rio de Janeiro.
03:09Perché ora a Roma?
03:12Because Europe was missing.
03:14And I think it was important to also bring the lights of what Europe is about.
03:22The past few months, to be very transparent, and you know, because you attended some of our conferences, and thank
03:30you.
03:30In Riyadh, in Miami a few months ago, so many people were saying, including Europeans, that Europe was over.
03:38I was shocked for someone who spent 25 years of my life in Europe.
03:43I know what Europe has to offer.
03:46Amazing talents, innovation, creativity, a lot of brands.
03:51And Europe, with 450 million people, is the second largest economy in the world after the United States of America,
03:58and even before China.
03:59If my numbers are good, I think Europe is almost 25 trillion of euros in terms of GDP.
04:07Just behind America, which is 26.5, and the head China, which is 18 trillion euros.
04:14So we need to showcase what Europe has to offer, and we need to talk more about the half full
04:20glass than the half empty glass.
04:22So this is why we decided to host something in Europe, and we picked Italy, because we think that Italy
04:28also is a great hub.
04:31It is, in fact, the connector between North Europe, South Europe, West Europe, Eastern Europe, and very close to Africa,
04:39very close also to the Middle East.
04:40So I think it's a great hub, plus people are questioning about how Italy was achieving some great success in
04:49the past few years in terms of economy, and Italy was back very strongly.
04:54You have also some incentives in terms of taxes, which attracted many people, including from Europe.
05:00Yes, with some counter effect, where you see that the real estate prices are going very high.
05:06But still, we think that Italy is doing good, it's a G20 country, so we want to understand from Rome,
05:15the capital, antiques, which has a lot to say also in terms of the roots of our humanity.
05:23It's extremely important.
05:24And we think that this is also the country of the Renaissance, with Firenze, etc.
05:30So we want to understand how Europe will be back, and will have a voice at the global conversation on
05:37the table.
05:51Resta attraente e a quali condizioni?
06:07Indeed, you're absolutely right.
06:09The attractivity of Europe is proven already now, a few days before the conference.
06:14We already have more than 1,000 global CEOs who are confirmed to attend the Rome event.
06:20Probably will be 1,500 at the end of the day.
06:22They represent more than 80 different countries.
06:25We have people coming from the United States, people coming from the Middle East, people coming from Asia, people coming
06:30from Africa,
06:31and, of course, people coming from all the European countries.
06:34The other very important point, we see that we have the traditional big investors, the big private equities, the big
06:41sovereign wealth fund,
06:42including, of course, a big delegation coming from Saudi Arabia, from the PIF, the global sovereign wealth fund of Saudi
06:49Arabia, Saudi ministers.
06:51But also, we see a lot of young entrepreneurs, startups, from what I'm calling the new economy, the tech pioneers,
07:00the AI, the renewable energy.
07:02So, this will be a great mix of the old and the young generation of entrepreneurs, plus policy makers, officials,
07:11which will be important because everything today is about public-private partnership.
07:16So, the attractivity is here, the curiosity is here, and never forget.
07:21The quality of life in Europe is very important also.
07:25Absolutely.
07:26I refer to the geopolitical conditions, because it's interesting that, for talking about the future of Europe,
07:33you arrive at Rome, FII, Future Investment Initiative.
08:03You know, we cannot ignore geopolitics when you have global conversation about geoeconomics.
08:08So, your point is extremely important.
08:11We cannot leave the feeling that the world is only managed by two big giants,
08:16which are the United States of America and China.
08:18We saw recently President Trump went to China a few days ago.
08:22I had the privilege to be also in Beijing at the same time.
08:26And we see that the two titans are really talking together.
08:30I am optimistic on the partnerships, but Europe should not be forgotten.
08:35And this is why Europe has a voice.
08:38And Europe is also part of this global multilateralism world.
08:43So, I think this is one of the reasons why we want to understand why to invest in Europe,
08:49what are the regulations in Europe?
08:51Because so many people are saying that regulations are killing execution,
08:56that regulations is killing attractivity.
08:59So, it's important to have open conversation and to understand what Europe has to change
09:04to be a very attractive place.
09:07Because, as I said at the beginning, we have amazing talents.
09:10A lot of loved brands were born in Europe.
09:13Many of them in Italy, in automotive, in luxury brands, in energy.
09:18So, you are also a global player.
09:21You are an industrial country.
09:22You are not just a touristic destination.
09:25So, I think it's important to have this conversation now, while we are looking at the new world order,
09:31when we see a lot of things changing.
09:34And I think Europe should be part of these changes, should accompany the changes,
09:38should not just look at the past and what were the great achievements of Europe.
09:42Europe needs also to move very quick, because everything is moving at a very high speed,
09:47especially in the East, in Asia.
09:50And you look at the new Asia, countries like Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia,
09:54they are the new champions.
09:56We should not forget and be, I would say, overwhelmed by what is happening in the East
10:03and in this Asia-India area.
10:05So, this is why we want to have this global conversation here in Europe.
10:44The opportunities are massive.
10:45The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is hosting in four years Expo 2030.
10:49We're talking about the multi-multi-billion project.
10:52The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia economy is in full transformation,
10:56with what we call the Giga project, building cities from scratch.
11:00Tourism is exploding, the technology also in AI, Saudi Arabia is becoming a big player on AI,
11:07with a company called Humane.
11:09So Europe has a role to play in this transformation.
11:12We will host also the World Cup in 2034.
11:15So in many sectors related to Vision 2030, Europe has a play.
11:20And Europe is already playing its own partition.
11:22We see a lot of European companies who are part of this transformation,
11:26but much more could be done, including in defence, in security, in technology, in all these sectors.
11:33So this is why I think this conversation is important.
11:36And it's extremely also important to understand how Europe could play a role,
11:45not just in the transformation of this part of the world,
11:49but also what this part of the world is already investing in Europe.
11:53Because if you look at PIF, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Saudi Arabia,
11:57who is a founding partner of FII, they invested a lot.
12:00They have offices in Europe, and they are doing great in Europe and also in Italy.
12:06So I think the visit of the Prime Minister recently in this part of the world was also a testimony
12:13that there is a lot to do, because there is trust.
12:16And we hope that the Prime Minister will be able to join,
12:20because as you know, FIA Europe is happening just between the G7,
12:25which will happen in France, and the European Council happening in Brussels.
12:29So we hope that the Prime Minister will be able to find one hour to stop by,
12:33at least to explain to the international business community what was discussed by the G7,
12:40and also what is her vision about Europe, Europe today,
12:44and her vision about Italy and which role Italy will play to attract foreign direct investment,
12:49which is crucial, because foreign direct investment is the only tool to create jobs.
12:56This is a great opportunity in a moment in which, as just Richard Atkins has said,
13:00the Europe is going to be schiacciated from the direct dialogue between China and the United States,
13:06while there is also a great potential in the new relations.
13:09Dall'anno scorso, when it started the commercial war of Donald Trump,
13:12the Liberation Day for Europe, has signed accord with about 3 billion people in different markets,
13:50guardando all'Italia?
13:51You know, we decided to become a membership organization after a few years
13:55because we saw so many participants who were telling us what can we do to support your mission,
14:03which is to impact on humanity, to have an impact on humanity.
14:07So we created this membership, which helped now to realize that people are serious.
14:11They are not just coming to a conference to attend a conference, they are playing an active role.
14:17So FIA became a movement, a real movement, where we see people from different horizons
14:23and this is what is giving us a lot of reason to believe in our mission.
14:29It is also a self-financing independent, so we are totally independent financially,
14:34thanks to our strategic partners and thanks to our members, which is giving us also a full openness to the
14:41world.
14:42Your point is very important about the role that everything plays between the new corridors,
14:48which are happening on energy, for example, the corridor with Mercosur,
14:51and you know better than me the global conversation which happened recently about agriculture with the European Union,
14:58fighting with what happened in Mercosur and Brazil in particular.
15:02So this conversation is important to have them in person.
15:06And we need to see how Europe could play a role on these new corridors,
15:11new energy corridors, new trade corridors, new supply chain corridors.
15:16So this is absolutely crucial and this will be one of the big topics that we will discuss during FII
15:22Europe in Rome.
15:37We have a lot of Italians who are participating.
15:39We're very happy to have the former Prime Minister of Italy,
15:42because at that time he was also someone who had the vision about the future of the DCC region
15:48and Saudi Arabia in particular.
15:50So he knew that this part of the world will be growing and will be more than an emerging economy.
15:55So he joined from the very early stage the FII Institute board
16:01with other leaders from different countries, United States, Saudi Arabia, Europe, and so far and so on.
16:08But at the same time, I think what we were trying to achieve is also to have these global conversations
16:17happening
16:18always for the best of our humanity.
16:23And this is why we see more and more Italian global CEOs joining us.
16:28we have from all industries, from the energy industry, from the financial industry,
16:35and you will see in Rome that many global CEOs from Italy, very, I would say, influential people will have
16:43a voice,
16:44which is important, because sometimes you have this language barrier, you know, where it's complicated,
16:51not so many people speak, unfortunately, Italian all over the world.
16:55But we are very happy to see that many Italians are coming to speak and to raise a voice
17:01to show what Italy has to offer at best.
17:05It's not just about Ferrari or about Lamborghini or about Gucci.
17:10It's also about all the industrial sector that you have in many industries, in energy, in yachting industry,
17:20with great giants like Benetti, Ferretti Group, and many others.
17:24These are exactly the sectors in which we give voice every day of the economy of Italy,
17:28which seeks new horizons to grow.
17:31So, Richard Atias, thank you.
17:32Again, it's an event very interesting.
17:34We will follow you directly to Roma, FII Priority Europe, from 17 to 19 giugno.
17:41We will talk to you again.
17:42Here are the coordinates.
17:44Thank you, Richard Atias.
17:45Thank you again, Richard Atias.
17:46Thank you very much.
17:47Thank you very much for watching this special edition.
17:49I'll see you in the end of the edition.
17:54And I'll see you in the end of the edition.
