00:00:00Rooney up!
00:00:02Welcome to Match of the Dead.
00:00:44Good evening. Five games on the way this evening and only three weekends remain in the Premier League season.
00:00:50It's the final sprint towards the finish line. Always up to speed, of course, Wayne Rooney and Ashley Williams.
00:00:56League leaders Arsenal play tomorrow. They began the day with a five-point advantage at the top, having played a
00:01:02game more than second-place Manchester City.
00:01:04Pep Guardiola's side faced Europe chasing Brentford this evening on the back of something of an epic at Everton on
00:01:10Monday.
00:01:12Pep Guardiola's team hoping to narrow the gap at the top to three points.
00:01:17This could be a big night to the title race.
00:01:20Dukku. That's the call for Manchester City!
00:01:26Come on, come on, you!
00:01:29Oh, Gay completely switches off.
00:01:33Gino Berry does his bit.
00:01:35Jake O'Brien! Everton have turned it around!
00:01:44And Erling Haaland gets one back!
00:01:49Jeremy Dukku rescues a point for Manchester City!
00:01:56Your commentator at the Etihad is Guy Mowry.
00:02:02A late equaliser usually feels like a point gain but not in Manchester City's case on Monday, having lost the
00:02:09lead and any notion of having an advantage in the title race.
00:02:13It feels now like only a mistake-free run to the finish will keep them in with a shout.
00:02:19And the team setting out to start that run today shows two changes from the draw at Everton, with Dutch
00:02:25duo Nathan Ake and Tijani Reinders coming in, replacing Kusunov, who's got a knock, and Nico Gonzalez back to the
00:02:32bench.
00:02:32Two changes to the Brentford team as well, as they chase a European place for the first time ever, and
00:02:38maybe even a spot in the Champions League.
00:02:41Aaron Hickey and Christopher Ayer come in for Seb Vandenberghe and Dango Watara.
00:02:49Five minutes played, and Andy Morrison's name is being sung by Manchester City fans.
00:02:56The former captain has been diagnosed with Ramsey-Hunt syndrome, it's a virus in the facial nerve.
00:03:02He was the man who wore number five in that famous 1999 playoff final against Gillingham.
00:03:09All that Wembley drama, fondly remembered and still loved here.
00:03:14Ake, had to stretch for it, stretched enough to make it a throw-in rather than a corner.
00:03:26Donnarumma doesn't get there, he's struggling, and it's cleared away by Mateus Nunes.
00:03:32Donnarumma appealing for a foul, nobody listening to him.
00:03:39He's the only sort of foul on Donnarumma there.
00:03:43Igor Thiago is just a big presence in front of him.
00:03:47He doesn't have to get out of the way just because the goalkeeper wants him to.
00:03:57Igor Thiago with a touch on for Schade, now there's a race on,
00:04:01and Mateus Nunes takes the ball, Brentford are adamant that he took the ball by foul means.
00:04:08And VAR are in operation.
00:04:11They took the ball.
00:04:12That's the VAR's opinion.
00:04:15The collision with Schade happened afterwards.
00:04:23He really senses his chance here, and he has forced Boku off-balance.
00:04:27Think it was just a slip there.
00:04:28It is gonna be a corner.
00:04:31The corner will be taken quick and short.
00:04:37Doku, with a shimmy past Jensen, and a touch towards Haaland.
00:04:42It's blocked, it's Gehi trying to get to it, but Kelleher then gathers the ball.
00:04:47The city threat is rising.
00:04:50Doku's in the midst of most of it.
00:04:52Haaland is starting to get more and more involved by the minute.
00:04:57Doku, with a lift through to Bernardo Silva.
00:05:00Jensen back to challenge him.
00:05:02And this one rolls behind four.
00:05:05Once given this time, the referee's frantically blowing away on his whistle.
00:05:09Bernardo Silva trying to get to the ball, stop from doing so.
00:05:13And a little bit of afters between Bernardo Silva and Nathan Collins.
00:05:18Bernardo Silva gets the yellow card, which is his tenth of the season.
00:05:23He's past the threshold, isn't he?
00:05:30Well, Manchester City have to hit the ground running.
00:05:33This is a big 45 minutes.
00:05:37KO'd it.
00:05:39Through for Igor Thiago.
00:05:41Igor Thiago through on goal.
00:05:43Gehi now gets in his way, and Donnarumma gets in the way of the shot.
00:05:48Important save.
00:05:50The Premier League's second most lethal marksman was in for Brentford.
00:05:56And Brentford got in really simply.
00:05:59Donnarumma sharply down, and Gehi regained his composure to put it behind.
00:06:12It's not rocking and rolling, is it?
00:06:15Not at all.
00:06:17Too used to it?
00:06:19Expecting it?
00:06:20Don't know.
00:06:22Reinders.
00:06:24Doku.
00:06:30Doku.
00:06:32Just invited Hickey to get there first for Brentford, and he did.
00:06:35It's going to be a corner.
00:06:38Tajani Reinders is going off, and I think Ryan Shirky, he's going to see his number on the board as
00:06:43well.
00:06:44And on will come Omar Mahmouche and Phil Foden.
00:06:48Omar Mahmouche!
00:06:55Foden has scored seven goals in nine previous games against Brentford.
00:07:00Here's Doku.
00:07:01He's gone for it again, and he's done it again.
00:07:06It's a repeat show from Jeremy Doku.
00:07:09All eyes were on the touchline with the substitutions being made.
00:07:13As soon as they were on the field, the corner was taken, caught Brentford out.
00:07:17And Doku hasn't half relieved the atmosphere in here.
00:07:23And that's the sort of view he's been looking for all game.
00:07:26He loves that view.
00:07:28He loves that goal.
00:07:29We've seen it a few times now.
00:07:31More than once in the last few weeks.
00:07:36They needed that.
00:07:39Goodness, they needed that.
00:07:44Tara.
00:07:47Played through beautifully to Igor Thiago.
00:07:50Igor Thiago's touch, down goes Sharder in the box.
00:07:53He's at him and he was pushed.
00:07:56Mateus Nunes plays it against Jamal Juk, but there will be a VAR check.
00:08:02And this is a really important one for Manchester City, for Brentford, for Arsenal.
00:08:07First thing to be looked at will be the offside, potentially Igor Thiago.
00:08:12And then was there a push on Sharder?
00:08:14That's what this is about, ultimately.
00:08:17Well, the check's over.
00:08:18There will be no ref for penalty.
00:08:20Just a bit of jostling between the two and not enough to constitute a push on the back of Kevin
00:08:25Sharder.
00:08:25That's how the ref saw it in real time.
00:08:27And that's how VAR has seen it, having another look.
00:08:34Bernardo Silva.
00:08:39Semenyo.
00:08:45Semenyo's built up ahead of steam here.
00:08:47Caught the cross for Haaland.
00:08:49He can't finish first time, he can second.
00:08:52A different sort of earning Haaland goal.
00:08:58And a different sort of feeling of relief from the first goal.
00:09:02And City do now seem to be on their way to the three points that were an absolute cast iron
00:09:09must.
00:09:11Walling Haaland has now scored in four successive Premier League games.
00:09:15Can't recall him netting too many times like this before, if ever.
00:09:20Manchester City two, Brentford nil.
00:09:25Another Silva.
00:09:27Mamouche.
00:09:29Foden.
00:09:30Nicely shifted from boot to boot.
00:09:36Doku.
00:09:39Doku across to Foden!
00:09:41What a save that is from Gallagher.
00:09:44Razor sharp.
00:09:45Phil Foden thought his long wait for his next goal was over.
00:09:50He was sharp too with the attempt to score.
00:09:53What about that?
00:09:54Strong arm from Gallagher.
00:09:56Manchester City have played their best football since going one nil up.
00:10:01Just seem to shake all the cobwebs from them.
00:10:03Calm everything down.
00:10:05He started to actually play rather than be swamped by what it all meant today.
00:10:11Bernardo Silva.
00:10:13He's trying to prompt City to push forward to the end.
00:10:16Knowing that goals could be a factor right at the end of the season.
00:10:19Here's Haaland.
00:10:22Haaland through to Mahmouche.
00:10:23And Mahmouche has taken that beautifully.
00:10:27And that's what Bernardo Silva has been insisting upon for the last few minutes.
00:10:33Revving them up for more.
00:10:34You never know.
00:10:36One more at the end of the season could make all the difference.
00:10:40Mahmouche has found game time really difficult to come by in the last few weeks and months.
00:10:46But you wouldn't know it by the way he puts this in.
00:10:48That's clinical.
00:10:50And another assist for Erling Haaland.
00:10:52We talk a lot about his goals.
00:10:55Well, that's eight that he's made in the Premier League this season as well.
00:10:57Levy.
00:10:59Zemeño is poke.
00:11:01Only to Lewis Potter.
00:11:02Henderson.
00:11:18again academic in terms of today's points could mean something at the end of the season in terms
00:11:23of goal difference manchester city get the result that they absolutely had to this evening
00:11:32for brentford a real blow to their hopes of getting into europe for the first time in the club's history
00:11:38they'll go again next week with two to play city play palace on wednesday night the first of three
00:11:45that they've got left as the chase of arsenal goes on in the first half we arrived a lot in
00:11:52the final
00:11:52third like what happened in the again against against everton but we didn't have enough players
00:11:57there in the second half we have enough players there to score a goal is not to be a genius
00:12:01it has
00:12:01to bring players close to erling you know and omar is called because erling and feel for them was
00:12:07close to erling in the second half that's why we create the sense of more goals so erling is there
00:12:12omar is there and create a little bit doubts for the defenders otherwise is erling along against
00:12:17three central defenders impossible to score a goal we know that we had to score and when we scored
00:12:22the goal obviously then there are more space and then we scored the second goal and we were a bit
00:12:27relieved er happy could have should have had a penalty key moment i've looked at it three or four
00:12:33times there's no way kevin would go down and the the comment that was made was er there wasn't enough
00:12:39contact but when he's kevin's one of the quickest players in the league and when he's moving at such
00:12:44speed it's only going to take a little bit of contact he's got the goal gaping um so for me
00:12:51that one is
00:12:51a as a penalty and the gap is down to two points again over to arsenal what do you do
00:12:56tomorrow do
00:12:57you watch it follow it going golfing my training i have my sister here so we'll see but yeah yeah
00:13:02my
00:13:02home i'll watch it yeah we all will pep we all will er it really was wayne the doku show
00:13:08again today
00:13:08wasn't it he's stepped up as good and big players do when their teams need them he has and i
00:13:14think over
00:13:14the last few weeks he's been incredible really and his run of form and his goals he scored the
00:13:20chances he's created you see this this first goal against everton cutting inside on his left foot
00:13:24whipping the far corner and again here hanging out in the back of the space and then no hesitation
00:13:31gets the ball cut inside and it's a great finish and today he was an absolute nightmare for the
00:13:37brentford defenders they couldn't deal with him he was direct he was positive but with quality which
00:13:43sometimes he has lacked at times him here makes the goalkeeper make a good save and then he's forming
00:13:49a really good partnership with nick o'reilly i think again and this is part of his game which i
00:13:53think he's improved a lot it's a really good ball to o'reilly and then he pulls the ball back but
00:13:58nothing really comes of it again here drawing players into him good bit of communication with his
00:14:03eyes with o'reilly which is important and you need him really good touch flick ball comes into the box
00:14:08and then man city to get another half decent chance from him being positive and taking the ball
00:14:14here drawing plays into him again stands the defender up no chance the defender can do anything
00:14:20about it and creates a really good chance for earl and harlan so everything that city done
00:14:24come through him find the pocket of space in the middle of the pitch being positive again
00:14:28no hesitation taking shot on his left foot and here brentford now they know that he's caused them
00:14:33problems all all day so now what they've done they've got three players out and they still can't
00:14:38deal with him they've got three players to try and get close to him to try and tackle him to
00:14:41try and
00:14:41foul him get to the byline again another good ball into the box and unlucky not to score
00:14:47and now on the corner phil phil foden plays it short
00:14:50they get they try and double up on him tiago comes out to see if he can help as well
00:14:54and then here the problem here is tiago thinks that brentford have got the ball
00:14:58he goes to run forward he gambles for the counter-attack and doc who comes into the space
00:15:03where tiago was and it's another incredible finish incredible and to to repeat that goal if you like
00:15:11has he has done a few times is is just phenomenal and have a look at this as well well
00:15:15i think this
00:15:16shows how reliant him today and not just today over the last few weeks man city has been on doc
00:15:21all
00:15:22most of the attacks come down the left-hand side and when you've got a player that confidence and
00:15:26not in form you have to just keep in the ball and if you keep giving the ball you'll cause
00:15:29problems
00:15:30well this increase this flurry of goal scoring activity is no coincidence way and have a look
00:15:35at this clip uh you and micah telling him he needs to shoot more this is after the fa cup
00:15:39semi-final and this was his response my first reaction when i dribble is like who is free instead
00:15:45of where's the goal you know instead of shoot or so i have to be more selfish in those moments
00:15:50and
00:15:50uh look for the goal first as an attacker and since that fa cup semi-final i mean he's literally
00:15:56gone
00:15:57out there and done everything you told him to yeah well after the same fan i said to him off
00:16:00air said you
00:16:01need to be more selfish and get more shots off and you see from that you know the goals he
00:16:05scored the
00:16:05shots he's had the the chances created everything about his game since then it shows he's an absolute
00:16:11world-class player and this season but especially over the last month you see it come together are you
00:16:16claiming are you claiming an assist i hope not because obviously well arsenal fans aren't happy
00:16:20with you no but but what you enjoy is top players being being you know good and creating and causing
00:16:25problems for defenders and speaking of arsenal of course for the title race they could not afford to
00:16:30drop any more points manchester city they had to get back to winning ways today uh let's remind ourselves
00:16:34of the run in there ashley yeah they did they did what they had to do today against a very
00:16:38stubborn
00:16:39brentford team and then they just put the pressure a little bit uh back onto arsenal tomorrow i i feel
00:16:44like
00:16:44Arsenal will be confident they'll go into that game with confidence and that they know it's in
00:16:48their hands now and if you're manchester city today you just go out and get the win any way you
00:16:52can do
00:16:53yeah i think city have just got to try and win the games and i said this last week that
00:16:57i felt city would drop points against everton and i feel like both teams will win every game
00:17:01and which makes arsenal champions and of course there are a couple of decisions you heard keith
00:17:06andrews there talking about kevin sharder that he felt uh could have gone for them today did you agree with
00:17:11him no i can understand why he's frustrated um because in real time both decisions seemed like
00:17:18a foul which weren't given but after watching it back i have to say i don't think either of them
00:17:22with a foul was a foul this was the first one and as you can see nunez just gets a
00:17:26touch on the ball
00:17:27there and i don't think that's enough contact i can understand i don't think sharder's dived because
00:17:31he's running at pace but i don't think it's enough for a foul watching this one as in real time
00:17:36i thought
00:17:36it was a penalty definitely but as we see the replay sharder actually trips himself up that's
00:17:42his own foot against his own heel and because again he's running at such pace he goes down so i
00:17:48can see why keith andrews would be frustrated but looking back at them that they're not fouls at this
00:17:53stage in a title race when it's tit for tat way you've been there tell us what what it feels
00:17:58like
00:17:58when you're inside that excitement nervous um you get every emotion and obviously with man city win
00:18:05today now it's arsenal's turn to go out and go and win the game tomorrow against west ham so
00:18:09every type of emotion you think you can have you go through over this this next couple of weeks
00:18:14and um it's brilliant when you're in it when you get get out of it at the right side then
00:18:19it's
00:18:20incredible such a good feeling when you're on the wrong side of it which i've been on as well
00:18:23it's one of the worst fields in the world okay all to play for well if aston villa win the
00:18:28europa
00:18:29league and finish fifth in the premier league then sixth place would qualify for next season's
00:18:33champions league bournemouth currently occupy that spot on a run of 15 games unbeaten ahead
00:18:37of their visit to fulham and chris latchan was at craven cottage and an area has three games left
00:18:44at bournemouth can he deliver continental football as the perfect parting gift marco silva may also be
00:18:50on the move we don't know if he'll extend his craven cottage contract he makes changes from the side
00:18:56folded by arsenal last week tom kearney comes into midfield while rodrigo muniz starts in place of
00:19:03the injured rao jimenez bournemouth have stood down right back alex jimenez while they investigate
00:19:08social media posts so adam smith comes in 12 goal junior group he has impressed everyone this season
00:19:15including barcelona said to be tracking his progress
00:19:22it's been a good watch some terrific football but precious little by way of real chances
00:19:29chiquese now threads one through to castaña hangs the ball higher moody's with the goal gaping heads the
00:19:37ball wide head in hands for his manager chiquese with disguise on the pass the arc of the run kept
00:19:45him on
00:19:45sides and muniz surely should have hit the target
00:19:52castaña plays the ball inside to wilson helps it on and now look at this space down the left hand
00:19:57side
00:19:59robinson galloping forward hill comes across to block him and it's important defensive work
00:20:05by the right back who tucked in adam smith
00:20:14kenny is the first meets and muniz with the overhead attempt
00:20:20wonderful technique shout for handball play continues
00:20:29var are checking for any whiff of handball from the
00:20:31muniz overhead kick play continues for now
00:20:36that's a wonderful shimmy from castaña and a foul from christie
00:20:41will produce the first yellow card of the afternoon
00:20:45really clever body shimmy from castaña he paid for it
00:20:52here's another look at the muniz overhead kick straight into the ground
00:20:56well andy madly is being sent to the screen here for the challenge by ryan christie on castaña
00:21:04it's a bad one when you slow it down
00:21:08and here comes the verdict after review the yellow card the bomb of number 10 has been upgraded to a
00:21:14red card for serious style player
00:21:16fine decision is red card
00:21:19this is not
00:21:19wait till you see it
00:21:21so ryan christie is sent from the field in front of the watching scotland boss steve clark
00:21:27and bournemouth are down to 10
00:21:32so not yet half time and full of a man up
00:21:38wilson's cross
00:21:40anderson's header is looping onto the crossbar
00:21:44well that would have been a one-two punishment for bournemouth really well worked anderson gets up high
00:21:50i think petrovic had it covered
00:21:56long-range effort from lukic is a good one and petrovic punched
00:22:01castaña helps it back in it's too high for smithrow
00:22:05fulham surging towards the half-time break
00:22:10really good hit from sasa lukic denied by the brilliant diving save from petrovic
00:22:19tavernier has ridden the challenge of castaña and
00:22:24the play was initially allowed to continue and then anderson has gone in really heavily on truffeur
00:22:30and all of a sudden born with the surrounding andy madly and asking him about the ferocity of the challenge
00:22:39it is a yellow card for joachim anderson
00:22:43they're checking this for a red card for possible serious foul play and now andy madly is being sent to
00:22:50the screen again
00:22:53the var are showing andy madly the incident in full speed first so he can see it and then slowing
00:23:00it down
00:23:01so he can see the top leg and can judge for himself whether it's two feet with dangerous force
00:23:10after review the yellow card for fulham number five has been upgraded to a red card
00:23:20it's 10 on 10. the yellow card for anderson deemed insufficient after review
00:23:26and now marco silvers fulham are also down to 10 men and fulham's advantage is removed
00:23:35well the half-time team talks would have been shaken up maybe even torn up by those two late red
00:23:40cards
00:23:43tavernier did well to keep it in play couldn't keep possession
00:23:49but he's won it back here tavernier and that groupie on the edge never needs too much
00:23:54and he's whipped the ball onto the crossbar
00:24:00barely a yard to work in for the young frenchman but he's shown all season
00:24:03he doesn't need much more than that
00:24:07first look at goal for the teenager and he's so nearly beat burnt leno
00:24:16treffer with the delivery too high for ryan
00:24:21smith recycles the play might get full for ryan who got it out of his feet and found the back
00:24:26of the neck
00:24:30a magic moment for bournemouth in the sunshine their brilliant brazilian at it again
00:24:39what a season this teenager is having and when smith laid it off he only had one thought in his
00:24:44mind
00:24:44bang could burnt leno have done better slightly unsighted
00:24:50and only here iola cares not a job one nil bournemouth
00:24:54marco silva says if fulham want european football every game really becomes must win
00:25:00if bournemouth get the points today they could almost touch european football
00:25:05bob lovely disguise on the pass and gets it back
00:25:09gets a yard and fires the ball over the top what an introduction that would have been for the young
00:25:15norwegian
00:25:20good to see roy hodgson one of five former full of bosses in the stands today
00:25:25croupie to ryan croupie is foul play continues ryan is advancing on his own but josh king is the only
00:25:31man to stop him ryan goes past two and castania has done well it's still alive and true fair has
00:25:38his
00:25:38shot blocked on the line josh king who's just come on a teenage attacker is initially beaten but he is
00:25:46the
00:25:46player that recovers to block the certain goal from true fair
00:25:53unal keeps possession and has it in the box now and whips it across goal and amin adley flosses lines
00:26:04brilliant work by unal and if not quite an open goal four-fifths of an open goal
00:26:13fulham are into their last minute robinson sends it into the box it might yet fall for bob
00:26:19it might yet fall for king off the underside of the bar
00:26:23and still alive muniz is blocked out and bournemouth can breathe again what a moment for fulham and josh king
00:26:33but he couldn't beat the upright and that's why they're celebrating
00:26:39bournemouth have held on and now they believe they can almost book their flights
00:26:45full-time at craven cottage full of nil bournemouth one
00:26:50today was not decisive because we still need more points but it was a
00:26:55big game considering also the the opposition also how the game has gone the two red cards would you
00:27:02kind of reset to start a different game and i think especially the players have shown like big spirit
00:27:08completely and there's a result for us i think is the first thing that i want to say
00:27:13after of course that real moment from anderson and the red card changed completely the dynamic of
00:27:19the game i didn't see so far any image that showed to me that is a clear head card for
00:27:24who that is true i didn't see i see many replays about the moment you don't think that's a record
00:27:29no i didn't see any image that showed to me that is a red card the lads are buzzing uh
00:27:34that was a real
00:27:35shift of a game we believe in ourselves the ability we've got in this group is is top it's a
00:27:40special
00:27:40group and you know we've got two big games now to uh keep our dream alive we'll get onto the
00:27:46dream in
00:27:46a moment but marco silva having a bit of a grumble there about joecom anderson and that was the second
00:27:50red card of the match so let's do them in order ryan christie first um how did you see them
00:27:55both
00:27:55yeah i think this one's a now done red card i think he's just misjudged it i don't think there
00:28:00was malice
00:28:00in the tackle but it you can see clearly here it's high with force and he's out of control so
00:28:06i think
00:28:06castania's lucky that he managed to to continue playing in that game i think christy knows straight
00:28:11away he's mistimed that and and it got upgraded and rightly so by andy madley who did have a busy
00:28:17afternoon this one at first i didn't i didn't think it was a red card um and i thought that
00:28:23anderson was a little bit unlucky but watching it back i think he's left the floor with both feet
00:28:29um whereas he has touched the ball a little bit um both of his right and his left foot made
00:28:35contact
00:28:36so you i can see why it was given and he has tweeted about this and that appears to be
00:28:40genuine his
00:28:41sentiment in there that you know that he's taking full responsibility so he's taking ownership of it
00:28:46yeah which would suggest that he probably knows as well that it's the right decision
00:28:50and of course that all happened in the first half second half bournemouth come out and we're
00:28:54used to seeing them playing very attractive attacking football and they kind of reverted to their
00:28:57typed and yeah absolutely and i think a credit to the manager again we we often say this but he
00:29:03he actually took his striker off and put on tyler adams who was excellent and you can see with these
00:29:07three players at the top end of the pitch tavernier wins the ball back it's a great best girl from
00:29:12group he's so unlucky not to score that that would have been a great goal um and that trufer delivers
00:29:18the ball in they keep it alive it goes out the back um rayanne's very clever with where he gets
00:29:24the
00:29:24ball and when once he gets in this position you just fancy him and it actually takes a bit of
00:29:28a nick
00:29:28off calvin bassy and goes past the goalkeeper trufer as i said he had a really good game he's added
00:29:35so much to this bournemouth team this season driving forward they've got pace and power uh
00:29:40tavernier is always lively great bit of skill double step over shifts it gets his shot off and
00:29:45they're creating chances they still look dangerous even though evan nielsen's not on the pitch you can
00:29:49see here how quickly they get the ball forward a little bit of skill from croupy and then rayanne is
00:29:54just he's been he's been electric since he's been in the league but look at the support with him
00:29:58they're up even though they've got 10 men they've still got energy a little bit unlucky trufer probably should
00:30:03score good block from king but you know having taken his striker off with 10 men you you wonder
00:30:08what he's doing but when you've got those players up front you still got a whole passage there actually
00:30:13kind of sums up it was a crazy game in there wasn't it very entertaining they are on at the
00:30:17longest
00:30:18unbeaten run at the moment um of uh 16 games that's in europe's top five leagues this season they're
00:30:24the ones that are in the continuous unbeaten run the others have come to to an end and that is
00:30:29why
00:30:29they're in the box seat really for that sixth spot yeah and i do really believe it's down to the
00:30:34to the
00:30:34manager i think he's been so impressive this season they've recruited well but who is it's almost like
00:30:39whoever he puts on the pitch gets a job done and he plays his style of football and i think
00:30:43they've
00:30:43been a credit to themselves and the league man city at home nottingham forest away are their two
00:30:48remaining fixtures and uh fulham of course could have been up there but they've just tailed off haven't
00:30:54they just two wins in nine and and kind of an opposite situation in a way to bournemouth who've
00:30:59got real clarity in what's going on with their team their manager for the future yeah it is and i
00:31:03think for for the fallen players obviously with um the uncertainty with marco silver's um future at
00:31:10the club and you don't know how that affects players and whether that affects them in a negative
00:31:14way but obviously the run of form they've been on has been great um and the flip side as you
00:31:18said was
00:31:19bormitt um they lose the manager announced the manager's leaving and swiftly announced a new
00:31:24manager which it gives them players clarity it gives them the energy and the the vision to look
00:31:29forward to know what they want to do and hopefully go and qualify for europe and of course new manager
00:31:33coming in marco rose are delighted that they're sitting there at the moment potentially with
00:31:36champions league football next season okay well brighton manager fabian hertzner signed a new deal
00:31:41this week to keep him at the club until 2029 his side were looking to continue their push for european
00:31:46football when they faced bottom side wolves at the amex jonathan pierce watch this one
00:31:52hertz rose won 43 and a half percent of his games in charge the highest win percentage of any of
00:31:57their
00:31:57managers since gus boyette 13 years ago two wins from the last three should be enough for european
00:32:03qualification wolves haven't won in 19 away league games and there's seven away goals this season
00:32:09it's the lowest tally in europe's top 10 leagues two brighton changes to cooper for weifer who's injured
00:32:15carioglu switches to right back and dunk returns after four games for boscagli if danny welbeck
00:32:20scores a 14th premier league goal this season it'll set a new club record one wolves change
00:32:25wang for a raccadari up front fred she is fitting up for the bench they haven't beaten brighton in the
00:32:31last eight meetings but they've lost here just once in six visits
00:32:39and the old gold and black will round to wanderers get us off and underway kicking from right to left
00:32:45if they lose today it means they'll have lost against all other 19 premier league clubs this season and
00:32:52that would be just the second time that's ever happened hugo bueno takes the throw to andre
00:32:59here's danny welbeck to mitoma brighton will want to start the game on the front foot and well
00:33:05and it's out wide here for the cup is crossing to the middle and they started bringing it
00:33:09into work three goals in three games and brighton over albion score in the first minute of play brighton one
00:33:18walls nil what a start it was a towering leap and the fine header but i'll tell you what mitoma
00:33:25does
00:33:25well here battled hard to play it out why de kuyper back in the starting lineup saw the run of
00:33:33injured
00:33:33no one in all gold did really appalling defending brighton albion one will bump to wonders nil is
00:33:40the score in the first minute
00:33:44minty tries the big switch all the way to mitoma lima was hesitant mitoma inside him
00:33:51will shoot from here will he he releases minty arrives back into the middle and it's cleared away by
00:33:56santiago buena and brighton cut effortlessly through wolverhampton wanderers there
00:34:06brighton are flying four minutes gone they're ready lead de kuyper will take the corner kick
00:34:14to the far post dunk makes it
00:34:17this is a stroll in the sunshine for brighton and have albion two up inside four minutes
00:34:27it's his first goal since february 24 back in the side he's missed four games a couple of them through
00:34:33suspension made his run in from beyond that far post too strong too focused too hungry look at the old
00:34:40gold shirts back in there a lot of them are just marking space victory today a couple with other
00:34:48results could take them sick baston will win the europa and finish fifth sixth will be enough to bring
00:34:54champions league football well back steps away from the challenge into minty it's not sharp return
00:35:01into it and it comes to mitoma it's well worked but white
00:35:08first touch took it wider than he really wanted narrowed the angle he was allowed to get the shot away
00:35:15there's no communication out there for walls lack of leadership
00:35:22diagonal switch to minty
00:35:26and we run bueno in comes across well back far post needed to be saved
00:35:34and again a ball from the wide position causing damage
00:35:38cross for well back at the far post perhaps got too much on it headed down
00:35:44onto the ground and bentley pushed it around
00:35:48walls have made a change they've taken uh hugo bueno off he hasn't reappeared
00:35:53and uh david muller wolf has come on
00:35:57marnay looks for the substitute carioglu got back at him and deflected it away
00:36:02but that's a meaningful walls attack for the first time in the game
00:36:05and as a result of it they get their first corner of the game
00:36:10right-footed it's dangerous you know towards that far post area dunk got up well
00:36:16this is andre flashes it back into the middle
00:36:20guang with the header on marnay scoops across back in off the top of the bar
00:36:26that's the closest we've seen from wolverhampton wanderers
00:36:29the header from yes and mosquera and he's got a reaction from him for the second half
00:36:36the uh hint you a goal by the way was his 150th in charge as a manager
00:36:41of brighton and the 400th goal his teams have scored in his career as a manager
00:36:47marnay has crept infield tries to trick his way through still going it's buried away arms run
00:36:54can he finish checks back to his left and it's scrambled away couldn't clear his feet to get the
00:37:00shot off arne here was allowed to get through that gap get the shot away keeper didn't cover himself
00:37:08with glory and brighton fans are getting agitated
00:37:19and kuba minty who goes out wide
00:37:23that lets it run onto the kuiper takes the extra touch the back heel by gross
00:37:32lovely little back heel here
00:37:36rob edwards will take some cheer from the fact that they've kept the scoreline to the two
00:37:45oh lovely football brighton rute no free kick picks himself up desperate defending back in there
00:37:52minty's turned away and scores and brighton have a third oh they finally made the game safe
00:38:0282 minutes after they scored their second goal they get their third
00:38:07it's already deserved one
00:38:11tried to get it away wolves but it wouldn't go and it wouldn't go
00:38:18and minty exploded in the third goal
00:38:22his third goal of the season Alfie we're with you Alfie is the son of the kit man who had
00:38:29crucial surgery this
00:38:31week and brighton have albeit with three goals and three points move closer to europe brighton three
00:38:38walls nil me and maxi we just spoke in the warm-up he said uh when i've got the ball
00:38:43you know make
00:38:43runs into the box and he obviously got the ball at his feet and crossed it and yeah i was
00:38:48arriving with
00:38:49good timing and it set us on our way um it probably weren't our best performance but it's a three
00:38:55nil win
00:38:55and that's all that matters at this stage of the season it's its results i mean it's a shocking start
00:38:59i think we're still in our nice hotel for the first five minutes um absolutely yes despicable start
00:39:05played backwards uh still in bed for the second one the corner is shocking defending we know there's
00:39:12going to be a lot of change going forward and for next season so you know that is what it
00:39:16is but the
00:39:16ones that are here right now continue to show some pride two games to go leads then manchester united
00:39:23how do you approach those games we have to go all in now and that approach it doesn't doesn't change
00:39:29so we will keep going we focus on our jobs we focus on things we can control we can influence
00:39:34that's only the performance and then we see what happens well they were disappointed with their
00:39:38performance last weekend against newcastle and they were in a real hurry to get things done and
00:39:42dusted today weren't they first ever premier league goal for brighton he was and they started the game
00:39:46you know with so much intensity and you look at this from the start getting around the ball winning the
00:39:51ball back and now they go forward they've got runners going going forward and wolves just could not live
00:39:57with it right from the start and i think this brighton's fastest goal in the premier league
00:40:01history 35 seconds but what a header what a cross and what a header that is and it didn't stop
00:40:06there
00:40:06wolves just could not deal with brighton all day and this another a great switch of play we don't
00:40:12seem to see see these switches play anymore but then the intent again runners off the ball making
00:40:18wolves you know look very ordinary which let's be honest they have been all season um and then a
00:40:24good cut back and now they get a corner but look at the bodies in the box and from that
00:40:28resulting
00:40:28corner this defendant is shocking you look at the wolves players brighton the danger for brighton is at
00:40:34the back post the wolves players are not even interested they're not looking they're not opening
00:40:37the body they don't know what's around them and then as the ball comes into play ball comes to the
00:40:42back
00:40:42post and then it's a it's another good header so i think how they started the game the intensity the
00:40:49energy which wolves um brighton had was incredible and then this is the 15th minute so all this is
00:40:55inside the 15 15 minutes a game getting bodies in the box and then nearly killing the game off but
00:41:02i think the way brighton set out the stall to to win this game from early on was was devastating
00:41:09and
00:41:09for the manager new three-year deal three goals and three points and it was a fantastic performance jack
00:41:15kincherwood has caught the eye all season hasn't he and uh he personifies versatility i think doesn't
00:41:20he because he he's played in these positions here this is the percentage of time that he's played in
00:41:25each of these different positions and and that's over 4 311 minutes as well so uh you think well where
00:41:31is his best position well of late it would seem actually to be in the 10 rule yeah and he's
00:41:37only 21
00:41:38years old and sometimes as a young player you're asked to play and fill in and do a job for
00:41:41the team
00:41:42which he's obviously done you see 30 of his games are right back there but he seems to have found
00:41:46a
00:41:46home as you say in this attacking midfield position he he was brilliant again today scored a really
00:41:51brave good uh header at the start of the game and he seems to be comfortable in that creative position
00:41:56well i said that perhaps bournemouth were in the box seat for that sixth place but these are brighton's
00:42:01remaining fixtures they've got leads away manchester united at home wayne and let's not forget european
00:42:07football could go right down to eighth place this season yeah i think they're tough fixtures um to
00:42:12both brighton a fantastic team they've shown that all season um and i think it's safe to say that
00:42:17they pretty look sure to be playing european football at some stage next season they have had a season of
00:42:23course in europe before but you know having fabian herzler's contract secured as well for a few more
00:42:28years that was announced this week again you referred to it with bournemouth that certainty shows what a
00:42:34well-run club it is yeah well exactly i think devon bramford are two of the the best-run clubs
00:42:39in the
00:42:39premier league and him it's no surprise to you know they're doing what to do okay thank you uh four
00:42:44games on tomorrow's match of the day with plenty of attention on events at the london stadium
00:42:50luk shawna
00:42:53it's hit to tammy abraham
00:42:58and the header in
00:43:01chino barry
00:43:03and now a knee
00:43:06but he's crossed for interstellar
00:43:08it's a great chance and carlum wilson standing
00:43:12and a tap in for yorkarez
00:43:17there's live commentary of all those games across five live and bbc sounds along with
00:43:22celtic against rangers from the scottish premiership at midday kelly summers chester lucy bronze in the
00:43:27football interview which is straight after this program on bbc one next saturday afternoon it's
00:43:31the fa cup final between chelsea and manchester city that's live on bbc one and if you missed the
00:43:36start of the show it's available right now on iplayer along with edits of every match
00:43:40and watch out for this it drops first thing on monday
00:43:45we got labeled like the golden generation we had captains winning premieres winning champions
00:43:51league but in the world cup you get a crisis every two or three days
00:43:57reporters cameras everywhere this is a bad start for england everyone was thinking why is it not quite
00:44:05working no any of the characters in that one you'd have to watch it okay to anfield fourth place
00:44:13liverpool still work to do of course to guarantee champions league football next season chelsea have
00:44:18the fa cup final next week but they've lost six in a row in the premier league commentary comes from
00:44:22simon brotherton champions league football could be secured for liverpool by the end of the day if
00:44:29they win and bournemouth don't rio and gamoa starts in place of florian viance who's ill while fit again
00:44:35georgie mamadash viddy returns in goal chelsea make five changes among them philip yorkinson starts in goal
00:44:41with robert sanchez out following his clash of heads on monday with morgan gibbs white and levi colwell
00:44:48makes his first start of the season after recovering from an acl
00:44:58bit of space here for kerkes and he's taking full advantage of it challenged by caicedo
00:45:05and it's going to be a liverpool free kick
00:45:11clumsy from caicedo
00:45:18so five minutes in sir boslize strikes it straight at colwell
00:45:26and gamoa
00:45:28up against palma here is gravenberg oh it's delightful
00:45:35what a glorious strike
00:45:38brand gravenberg
00:45:39scores for the first time since just after christmas in the league
00:45:46and what a beautiful strike it was too
00:45:51and it's taken liverpool just over five minutes to score
00:45:55liverpool one chelsea nil and chelsea's recent woes are quick to continue
00:46:07given away by jorgensen collected by frimpon red shirt suddenly now appearing in and around chelsea's
00:46:15penalty area and it's a corner first one of the game
00:46:23alexis mccallister to take
00:46:28suppose like
00:46:30decent ball in it's left for van dijk and it was a great chance for number two
00:46:39completely unmarked
00:46:41i'm sure whether he was in an offside position there but he was in plenty of space
00:46:50i said
00:46:51this is better brilliant pass from moises caicedo
00:46:55kukareya
00:46:56fingertips saved by mamadashvili
00:47:00gusto sending it in trying to pick out charl pedro
00:47:03that was better from chelsea
00:47:07chelsea suddenly bursting into life here
00:47:19a free kick there conceded by cody gackpo
00:47:26chelsea one assumes a sensing opportunity here despite the fact they're behind
00:47:34so fernandez whips it in oh it barely needed a touch it may not have even got one
00:47:41chelsea are level
00:47:44it was slow and hard and it went all the way through into the far corner of the net
00:47:52was there a touch by for fana here swung his right foot at it
00:47:58chelsea won't worry too much about who it is who claims the goal
00:48:03because most importantly for them they are level
00:48:07it's been a while since chelsea won a match at anfield their last win here
00:48:14came in front of an empty stadium during covid mason mount
00:48:18scored the only goal of the game that day it was five years ago
00:48:25caicedo great movement here by kukureya almost an own goal and into the back of the net by cole palmer
00:48:33chelsea get their noses in front in the fourth minute of the second half
00:48:38and cole palmer scores for the first time in a couple of months since the 4-1 win away at
00:48:46aston villa
00:48:46early in march
00:48:51the goal is not going to stand kukureya is a judge to be in an offside position and it will
00:48:58be
00:48:58offside by a very slender margin and there's a let off for liverpool
00:49:07andre santos
00:49:10interception made by jones and kurnish jones has it now advantage played by the referee and jones has
00:49:16done really well
00:49:19and now it's with frimpong
00:49:24subos line
00:49:272-1 liverpool flag goes up won't count
00:49:31curtis jones celebrates for barely a second or two
00:49:37both teams then denied a goal a slender offside margin in the opening 13 minutes of the second half
00:49:47one the last two games here recently against fulham 2-0 and crystal palace 3-1 the last home match
00:49:55and they're on the front foot once more with ryan gravenberg
00:50:00jeremy frimpong look like a handball there cuts back so far side brings the best out of jorgensen
00:50:07they will check for a possible penalty
00:50:13supporting arm is the word that comes back to the referee
00:50:20here comes the change for liverpool alexander isaac is going to come on and the crowd are very unhappy
00:50:28that rio ungamoa is the player being substituted here by arnest sloth and having expressed their
00:50:35displeasure towards their manager at his decision and gamoa gets a great reception
00:50:40a bit of space here for supports like to strike it rattling
00:50:55the frame of the goal with a venomous shot it's under a strike
00:51:08korea is challenged by jones and caicedo loses it to isaac
00:51:30and the header was a brilliant one from van dyke they will check the challenge on him inside the penalty
00:51:38area
00:51:40and they've actually looked at the other incident on mcallister but it will not be given as a penalty
00:51:53nicely done from xia pedro still going here and still and frimpong challenges
00:52:01he's back up but it will be looked at it breaks down for chelsea he's asking the question
00:52:06but liverpool can't get it away they claim a handball and the referee's going to give a free
00:52:11kick to liverpool
00:52:15they've completed the check on the challenge in the penalty area and it will not be a penalty
00:52:24that'll do it honors even at anfield and the noise in the background tells you what many among the home
00:52:31faithful think of it it's finished at anfield liverpool one chelsea one it was disappointing
00:52:37to concede that goal um we'll have a look at that and look at the reasons why a much better
00:52:41reaction
00:52:42from the early goal we conceded last week so that's that's a positive and that's what you have to do
00:52:46at
00:52:46this level at any moment uh premier league teams can can have a moment score a goal a bit of
00:52:51quality
00:52:51so you have to it's not going to be perfect and i was pleased with the response rio and gamoa
00:52:55was was
00:52:55given an opportunity today he's quite a handful isn't he that the crowd clearly wanted to see a
00:53:00bit more of him when he came off i can completely understand that they wanted to see him longer
00:53:05but what they then probably didn't notice is that three minutes before that he went to the floor
00:53:09close to cramp so i had contact with him can you go on and he was really doubting
00:53:15so he gave the signal that he had to come off but i knew when his number went up that
00:53:20was that wasn't the
00:53:21most popular decision i could make at that moment of time yeah there were definitely some rumblings at
00:53:26anfield of of disquiet today when we'll get into that but uh first of all way will you clear up
00:53:31the
00:53:32the chelsea equalizer um and who should the goal go to yeah it's it sends out goal i think it's
00:53:39a it's a
00:53:40it's a really good free kick actually and but it's it's poor defender from lippool you look at the space
00:53:45here in the middle of the penalty boxing and the ball goes right through and for fana i think he
00:53:52he says straight away it's it's not his goal and he he points to enzo so um it's it's enzo's
00:53:58goal but
00:53:58the marker from the pool was was terrible and i initially thought that he actually got a touch on
00:54:04the ball here that's the angle that yeah it looked like it did but then this clears it up i
00:54:08think
00:54:08you see here he's he's nowhere near the ball and it goes straight in but but the worrying thing for
00:54:13Liverpool is if you look at the chelsea players here they're all reacting and all waiting for a
00:54:16rebound or the second ball and there's only one liftpool player who's actually reacting they're
00:54:20all stood you know eight to ten yards out the the box and i'm just watching it go on so
00:54:26i think that
00:54:27was a big concern six defeats in a row before today for chelsea and there was a little tactical tweak
00:54:32wasn't there involving marco corella which has made a bit of a difference for you yeah absolutely today
00:54:37i think they they played him higher up the pitch they had for far and just didn't be a hat
00:54:42so sorry
00:54:42just in behind him and this is from kickoff and it and it shows that that most of the attacks
00:54:48today
00:54:48were down chelsea's left-hand side and that was that was down to cucurello who's we know he's full of
00:54:53energy full of running uh very creative and today he looked like he enjoyed himself in in this more
00:54:59advanced position um the timing of his run here is brilliant he's looking to run forward he's looking to
00:55:06running beyond he's creating chances for chelsea and as you said where they've they've struggled
00:55:11up to now but he was uh curtis jones was playing against him who's in a midfielder and you can
00:55:17see
00:55:17just switches off here another another good run from cucurello he was really trying to pierce the the
00:55:24liverpool defense with with his movement and his and his runs in behind here now that frimpongs on him
00:55:29jones is a little bit caught in between should he go to fernandez or not again this one was he
00:55:35was just offside on this one but again it's another great run the timing of it was nearly
00:55:39perfect nearly sets up the goal for uh cole palmer uh this is curtis jones on the ball gives it
00:55:47away
00:55:47if we just look at cucurello he's on his bike straight away and he doesn't stop there he continues
00:55:53into the box two little players are focused on the ball nobody's thinking about what's behind them
00:55:59he makes that run and again nearly gets his shot off if it's not for a really good block from
00:56:04mccallister so you know in a team that's struggled to find creativity just moving cucure up the pitch
00:56:11seem to do his trick for them today and give them a different dynamic to their attack getting that point
00:56:15and having a performance like that the week before you've got an fa cup final will have done them the
00:56:19world of good but liverpool wayne could have today of course all but sealed the deal in terms of
00:56:24champions league football they had a lot to play for today they did because they've got guaranteed
00:56:27champions league football next year and which it looks like they'll they'll certainly get that but
00:56:32there was a lot of worrying signs which that's been all season if i'm being honest and um i think
00:56:37they
00:56:37don't know um they haven't got an identity of how they play um players don't look as if they're
00:56:43interested in to play for the team and and the fans are really not realizing that the fans are seeing
00:56:47that
00:56:47and obviously we've seen it with rio going off but the literal fans are normally you know they give
00:56:51the players time to give the managers time the patient with them but i think they're starting
00:56:56to lose the patience they've lost nine points from winning positions at anfield this season um which
00:57:01is the most uh for a very long time and obviously it's a completely contrasting season isn't it to
00:57:05this time last year yeah there's a lot to get right a lot to put right yeah and and i
00:57:10think they made a
00:57:11lot of changes in the summer ones that we all sat here and thought were really good players and
00:57:15it's taken them a long time to integrate into it going forward i'm not sure you know which of these
00:57:20players that aren't a slot is going to try and build his team around and and who who are the
00:57:25core
00:57:25players in this team it just at the minute they just don't i don't see really where they're going
00:57:30it's been a really frustrating season for liverpool okay third place manchester united have already
00:57:34sealed their place in next season's champions league they headed to the stadium of light to face a
00:57:39sunderland side still with european ambitions of their own mark scott is your commentator
00:57:44sunderland are just three points off eighth which could be good enough for a place in europe next
00:57:49season but they've not been too good lately taking just a point from their past three matches
00:57:56their appeal against dan palard's red card at wolves was unsuccessful so lutzeral here trauda comes in for
00:58:02his first minutes in over a month manchester united have lissandro martinez back available after a ban
00:58:08while there are rare starts for mountain turkey with masraoui and former sunderland favorite amad also
00:58:15coming in
00:58:19krandick shaka
00:58:22wanted reynaldo to make the run almost used him by not using him reynaldo now shuffles it back to talbi
00:58:31sunderland making the brighter start and a bright moment here which nearly ends up in the net from talbi
00:58:39sennel omans i think knew it was going wide
00:58:46interest united yet to have any serious possession in the
00:58:50sunderland half and it's sunderland coming forwards again here
00:58:54siddiqui's through and he's denied by a terrific stop from sennel omans
00:59:04siddiqui started to move with a bit of fancy footwork continued his run spotted and picked out by a super
00:59:11pass
00:59:12and then it's a super stop from lomans to prevent sunderland taking the early lead and they are
00:59:17making the early running while he secured champions league qualification last week michael carrick says
00:59:24nothing's really changed in terms of whether he'll be staying on as manager next season
00:59:29and that he's not bothered if the club are running the rule other over other potential candidates as
00:59:34well given the job that both these managers have done this season it's a bit strange that there is
00:59:40talk that they might not be in post come the start of the next campaign
00:59:47ahmad peeling away and that's important from rinaldo
00:59:51kunya back in and xerxi best we've seen from manchester united so far
00:59:59tricky for xerxi though as he was going backwards to try and generate some forwards momentum
01:00:06the much changed manchester united side today and they're yet to really click
01:00:15lafay broby laid off nicely and sent wide by siddiqui with the aid of a deflection
01:00:23it's another sight of senel omans goal for sunderland and siddiqui's strike looked on target
01:00:30until the intervention from mason mount
01:00:36the weather is rubbish and the game hasn't been much better sure's hurried clearance is cut out
01:00:50it's a bit of quality there and probably denied by a quality stop from lomans
01:00:56not the first time today that the manchester united keeper has stood up
01:01:01and kept manchester united level in the game perhaps a bit too close to lomans but he still had work
01:01:08to do
01:01:08and reacted smartly
01:01:17hitrouda
01:01:20broby hitrouda
01:01:25hasn't scored for sunderland let's her l hitrouda
01:01:29mightily close to changing that here nice layoff from broby
01:01:34and although he slipped as he hit it it was almost itch perfect
01:01:45mount to fernandez
01:01:48and manchester united have got a man down here it's bruno fernandez who's holding his face
01:01:59oh and i think that anculo could be in trouble here
01:02:05certainly an arm in the face of bruno fernandez
01:02:08i'd be surprised if var didn't want to take a closer look at this
01:02:14movement of the arm towards fernandez but not in a violent manner is the var verdict
01:02:21so bruno is going to be disappointed here but there are no further repercussions
01:02:29martinez good strong challenge that not a bad pass either and here's matthews
01:02:34cunha to possibly win it for united
01:02:39masraoui fernandez
01:02:42still searching for that bit of quality this afternoon manchester united
01:02:52bruno fernandez releasing dogoo danger here for sunderland
01:02:56dog is cut back kunya roofs in the way
01:03:07and it's a free kick for simulation and a yellow card for matthews cunha
01:03:14referee had no hesitation here that this was a dive from cunha
01:03:19doesn't have much to do today robin roofs but ensured that he was in the right spot
01:03:24to repel that strike from cunha
01:03:29i think a clean sheet away from home um tough place to come here and we knew it was going
01:03:34to be
01:03:34tough it was never going to be perfect game i think um chose probably where we're at in terms of
01:03:38not playing totally at our best and and getting a good result so um the point's okay probably we
01:03:43created enough chances to win this game but uh chances doesn't mean goal and when we we got this
01:03:52momentum and the big chances we were not clinical enough and i think the premier league is really
01:03:56demanding when you don't score you are always on the edge but it shows that our season has been
01:04:02excellent so far and i think we don't know what will happen for the last two games but it's very
01:04:08positive and if we are disappointed at home after a draw against man united it's a good sign
01:04:13for for the club and something from the outside looking in will say was there an issue with
01:04:17motivation now that you've got champions league in the bag no and that's not something that you
01:04:23need to be concerned about for the remainder of the season either is it not at all listen nothing's
01:04:28done you know we're not with the season's not finished so i don't know if someone's got that
01:04:32mentality then they're not in our camp so it's not something we spoke about and it's certainly not
01:04:36going into the game today the boys were in a really good place so that's really not something that
01:04:40we're concerned about at all we'll talk about manchester united's performance and maybe the
01:04:44drop-off from last weekend in a moment but first of all the incident on bruno fernandez at nilson angulo
01:04:49um was it was he lucky yeah very lucky really lucky boy because i i don't know what he's thinking
01:04:56here he's clearly that's not running action he's he's clearly tried to elbow him uh in the face he's
01:05:03caught him with his forearm we've heard today that because it was the forearm not the elbow or it wasn't
01:05:09enough
01:05:09um contact that it's not a red it is a red card that that's the naughty challenge he's very lucky
01:05:14not to be sent off and there was a drop-off in performance there were a few personnel changes
01:05:18as well and and perhaps if we have a little look at michael carrick's uh use of his players since
01:05:24his
01:05:25time in charge uh he's actually used fewer players in the premier league than uh most teams around in
01:05:32fact any other team around him uh equal there with leads and everton and bournemouth below um and that points
01:05:37to perhaps the fact that he is showing today he needs to strengthen his squad with champions league
01:05:42football next yeah no i think it was with man united on the champions league last season obviously to get
01:05:47back in the champions league and against liverpool last week was was big for the club and today um yeah
01:05:53they weren't at the best and um today but in terms of the players use i think what it shows
01:05:58is that man
01:05:59united need to invest in players in the in the summer because um for the in order for man united
01:06:05to
01:06:05compete in the premier league next season and the champions league next season which the where they
01:06:08want to be they have to invest they have to strengthen the squad and i don't think there's
01:06:11any denying that now if i was a player and man united wanted this army the first question
01:06:17i would ask is does the manager want me who is the manager does the manager want me
01:06:20so i think for for man united to have that clarity on who the manager is and and listen i've
01:06:25i think
01:06:26everyone knows i've been very supportive of michael carrick if michael carrick hadn't done the job he'd done
01:06:31i wouldn't be sitting here saying you should give him the job but i think for what he's done and
01:06:35he's
01:06:35earned his right to get that manager's job and um i think for the club to announce him i think
01:06:41they
01:06:41need to do it swiftly because they need to get players in and they need to get players you know
01:06:45they'll be talking i'm sure they will but they need to get players in for next season to improve that
01:06:49team and the price of those players that they're looking at if they have a good world cup it only
01:06:52goes
01:06:53up doesn't it so in terms of good business sense you want to get those players signed up
01:06:57before they go off and play in the world absolutely because they'll have their targets and we've seen
01:07:02now that you know he wants just the players that he wants to play and when that when some of
01:07:07those
01:07:07players are out there a weaker team first and foremost i agree with you i don't know what more
01:07:11michael carrick can do to get the job it's a bit farcical that he hasn't got the job already just
01:07:16give
01:07:16him it he's got the club back into the champions league so back him and then he can go on
01:07:20then and
01:07:20choose players that he wants quickly and swiftly before the world cup it's not that it's other it's
01:07:25players will be looking at man's united but they'll also be looking at other teams so what you don't
01:07:30want to do is have your targets and then and lose them because you haven't got a manager in place
01:07:33and
01:07:33i think he's done everything to to to get it done and then let's start bringing players and some
01:07:38people might say well yeah they've not played as many players because they haven't played in as many
01:07:41competitions they've played the fewest games in their history this season haven't they but they'll be
01:07:45playing a lot more next season yeah they will and and listen whether it's michael or someone else
01:07:49they're going to have to bring players in regardless so um it should be michael and let's
01:07:53hope it is final word okay let's have a look at the table uh the gap at the top is
01:07:57now two points
01:07:58after manchester city's win manchester united and liverpool stay third and fourth respectively
01:08:02bournemouth brighton and brentford remain in the race for europe at the other end both west ham and
01:08:07tottenham are still fighting for survival arsenal go to the london stadium on sunday while spurs host
01:08:13leads on a monday night uh thank you so much ashley and wayne in a season then of surprises here's
01:08:20where we stand peps supporting the hammers spurs might need arsenal to do them a favor and bournemouth
01:08:25could be in the champions league and we're still no closer to knowing who's going to win the title
01:08:28expect more twists and turns over the next few weeks good night
01:08:49you
