00:02Tell you what, this is hard. This sheep's definitely going to get bullied for a tackle.
00:07We've watched Reuben Owen grow up on his remote hill farm with his eight siblings.
00:12Do you want to do the honours, Sid? Buck her out.
00:14That was the old school way of doing it, Dad.
00:16That's where we used to start with the old sheers.
00:19Now he's building a business and a remarkable life in his Yorkshire home.
00:24We need a lot more in here, yeah. Let's go faster.
00:26We're going. We're going as fast as we can.
00:28They're a great team. Even on a job like this, where there's a bit of pressure to get it done,
00:32they're brilliant.
00:33We'll continue to follow him as he takes on new challenges with the support of friends and family.
00:38Do you want to give us a hand putting the wheel on? Righto, will do.
00:41I love working with Sid. He has always been helpful in his own little way.
00:45How do you get someone unstuck at the side of a pond? Brilliant, son. He's just brilliant.
00:49And witness him at work and play.
00:55As he leads a new generation of young people choosing to live and work in the idyllic Yorkshire Dales.
01:02No, I'd rather be.
01:03Aw, I love you too.
01:08My business has been going from strength to strength over the last four years.
01:12My brothers, Miles and Sid, are a real help, but they love farming too.
01:17Sonny and Capa are a great crack to work with, and they're the muscle of the operation.
01:21Jess, my girlfriend, is from a farming family like me, and she can turn her hand to just about anything.
01:27And together, we're a great team.
01:35This week, it's late summer.
01:41And Ruben digs deep at an idyllic country house.
01:44What's that, mate? How's it going, bro?
01:46Where the team's installing underground pipe work.
01:49It's coming, it's not far off.
01:50And the cracks are beginning to show.
01:55Yeah, maybe you will have to shorten it.
02:00Clive, Miles and Sid set sail for Ireland.
02:03Are you getting your ceiling?
02:05Yeah.
02:07As VIPs at the legendary Clonmani show, where veteran shepherd Clive is invited to judge Ireland's take on his native
02:15Swaledale sheep.
02:16There you are.
02:17Just remember, the judge is always right.
02:19Oh, whatever.
02:21Sid dives head first into the messy world of sheep prep.
02:25Is it?
02:26Yeah.
02:30It's full throttle for Miles on an epic tractor run.
02:34Come on, Sid, oh, eh?
02:37All the very best.
02:38And the boys hit the town for some proper Irish crack.
02:42But they have never seen before a bull in a bowl of hot.
02:45Yeah!
02:50Ruben's base of operation is in his childhood home of Swaledale, in the north of the Yorkshire Dales.
03:01The landscape here would not be the same without its woolly namesake, the iconic Swaledale sheep, an official symbol of
03:09the Dales.
03:13With their distinctive black faces and curly horns, these hardy hill dwellers have thrived here for centuries.
03:20Proper job, that.
03:22Look at that.
03:22It's like good stuff.
03:24Straight in.
03:27And where there's sheep, there's work, as Ruben and his girlfriend Jess know only too well.
03:33They've just finished installing sheep pens at a neighbouring farm.
03:37They'd already concreted in the posts, and now they've hung the gates.
03:42The job's complete.
03:44So, what do you think, Jess? They're working fine, aren't they?
03:47Yeah, they look good, don't they?
03:48You'll manage grand.
03:49Would you be happy if they were your sheep pens?
03:51Of course I would.
03:52Of course I would.
03:52You would?
03:53You would be happy?
03:55Yeah.
03:55That's something.
04:00For nearly 50 years, Clive's lived and breathed Swaledales, passing the hill shepherd's way of life down through his family.
04:09As a breeder of champions, Clive now brings his sharp eye to the judging ring,
04:14presiding over Swaledales at elite shows.
04:17And his next one is in the diary.
04:21Are you coming with me, you guys? Are you coming to Ireland?
04:24No.
04:25We're busy, aren't we?
04:26Yeah.
04:26We've got quite a bit too.
04:27We've got our septic tank point at Musgrave and a few jobs.
04:30Well, I'm going to take Miley and Sid.
04:32Oh, good. It'd be nice for them to get out there.
04:34Exactly.
04:34Yeah, because I've never been on a ship and they've never been overseas.
04:38So what do you have to judge out there, Clive?
04:39Yes, well, I'm judging Swaledales.
04:41Are you?
04:42There's quite a lot of interest in Swaledales in Ireland.
04:45You've had Swaledales all your life, Clive, haven't you?
04:47I've seen a few Swaledales in my time and I've had a bit of success along the way, so yeah.
04:52Yeah.
04:52So it's nice to go and we'll manage somehow without you.
04:57With champion Swaledales fetching tens of thousands of pounds, Clive knows exactly what's at stake.
05:04I used to skive off school and go and watch these famous sales and these great men sell these wonderful
05:14sheep and dream that maybe one day it might be me.
05:17And so yeah, for me to eventually, you know, breed a champion myself, that's pretty amazing really.
05:26We called him Glory, we sold him for £28,000, which was, you know, amazing, absolutely amazing.
05:34You know, fellas that go and judge, like myself, know how hard it is to breed these things and so
05:42I always see it as a great responsibility and a great honour to be chosen to judge.
05:49And it's a tough thing to do because, you know, you don't make everybody happy when you judge sheep, you
05:57know what I mean?
05:58Right, let's let these sheep out, they're getting pens mucky.
06:01They all just swing perfectly, don't they?
06:06Good.
06:07The way they go.
06:17At Raven Seat, the day has arrived for Clive, Miles and Sid to make tracks for Ireland.
06:23Right.
06:24Have you got everything?
06:25One.
06:27Have you got everything packed here to do?
06:30Everything loaded up.
06:31For these young farmers in training, the trip's a big step towards their dad's world.
06:36You're having a good time, are you excited for the ferry?
06:38Yeah, they reckon it could be a bit stormy, so we don't get seasick.
06:42You'll be fine, yeah.
06:43Have you been abroad before, Sid?
06:45No, I haven't actually.
06:46Never?
06:46This will be the first time.
06:48Excited.
06:49The Irish Shows invited a Swaledale man to judge their Swaledales, and Clive's ready for it.
06:57Right, lads.
06:58You're packed.
06:59Here's me case.
07:00About time.
07:00With everything I could possibly need.
07:02I hope.
07:03I hope.
07:06We're off to Clon Manishaw in Donegal, so it was quite a journey.
07:11I know me way round the Swaledales sheep, and so it's a great privilege to be asked to go and
07:17judge.
07:19In Ireland, and to support them.
07:23But the Irish Sea is concerning him more than the Irish sheep.
07:28Tomorrow, a big storm passing through, so I'm quite worried about the crossing.
07:33How rough it'll be, and whether we're ill or anything.
07:36I would not like that to happen, but we shall see.
07:39Well, have a good time, you three.
07:42Right.
07:43Come on, boys.
07:44Let's rock and roll.
07:50See you later.
07:51Bye.
07:55Miss you already.
08:00Good, we're away lads.
08:02Yep.
08:02Island, here we come.
08:04Here we go.
08:07Their journey will take them more than 300 miles.
08:11First, they're heading to the ferry port of Cairn Ryan on the west coast of Scotland,
08:15where they'll sail over to Larne in Northern Ireland, before heading west to Donegal and the prestigious Clon Manishaw.
08:22And it's fair to say that Clive's looking forward to it.
08:27All Ireland's very beautiful.
08:29You know, lovely green.
08:31And the people are lovely.
08:33Irish folk are the nicest people I've ever met.
08:36So, we will feel very at home in Ireland.
08:39That's good.
08:41On the way to the ferry, Clive wants to make an important pit stop, to give his lads a flavour
08:46of what's expected of a show judge.
08:50Alan is a judge in Ireland, and there's nobody who knows more about Swaledale sheep than this fella.
08:56As ex-chairman of the Swaledale Sheep Breeders' Association, anything Clive's mate Alan doesn't know about the breed isn't worth
09:04knowing.
09:06Hello.
09:07Oh, the very man. The very man. Alan, how are you doing?
09:11I'm grand, thanks.
09:13So, I always say to my lads, it's great to be in the company of a fella that knows his
09:18subjects.
09:19Thank you, Clive. I've been doing it all my life.
09:22Clive wants the lads to see what makes a Swaledale worthy of the show ring.
09:27But first, they've got to round up some sheep.
09:30Luckily, Clive's brought a helping hand.
09:33Or should that be poor?
09:37Here they come.
09:38Have you seen them, Nellie?
09:41Yes, indeed.
09:47Lie down, lie down, lie down.
09:51That's Grand Short Gate.
10:00Show worthy sheep are few and far between. But Alan has his eye on a couple of young ewes with
10:07potential star quality.
10:11Now, then.
10:13Woo hoo.
10:14The strong hogs.
10:16Woo hoo. Come on, laddie.
10:18So, Alan, when you're judging, what do you look for?
10:21The first thing I will look for, that it's got nice short teeth.
10:24And then, look at the size of its head.
10:27It's good, nice horns.
10:29The next job I will look at it is feeling its shoulder.
10:32Why are we feeling it in there?
10:33Well, a nice wide shoulder means they've got a bigger, wider chest.
10:38Yeah.
10:39If it's too narrow, they may even have short legs.
10:42Which isn't good for on high, peaty ground.
10:45So, it's not just for looks, it's actually for, you know, the living of the sheep.
10:49It needs to be wider set.
10:51That's right, yeah.
10:52So, that's Miles' sheep thoroughly looked over.
10:55But how does it compare to Sid's?
10:57Over to Judge Clive.
11:00Lovely teeth. Back under gum, that's what you want.
11:02Yeah, definitely.
11:03Because, as I've always said, a sheep's as good as his teeth.
11:07I've heard that a lot.
11:09Where would you look next?
11:10The perfect way of the sheep should have a white, white ear.
11:14But when you're judging and you're 15 sheep stood in front of you,
11:18these little points, you need to be clucking amok.
11:22Yeah.
11:22Because they're gonna matter.
11:24I knew you would be looking at a lot when you were judging a sheep,
11:28but I really didn't expect as much as that.
11:33Armed with insider knowledge, these budding farmers are fired up
11:37and inspired to learn all they can at the Clonmany Show.
11:41It's a privilege, really, to see sheep as good as this,
11:43and this is where they came from, this is the home of the Swaleel Show.
11:46And I'm sure when you get to this show in Ireland,
11:49you'll be hopefully learning from the judge there,
11:53who's a very experienced judge too.
11:55Yeah, it's definitely helped.
11:56I am the judge.
11:57Oh, my God!
12:05It's been a long day.
12:20Clive, Miles and Sid are making their way to one of Ireland's top agricultural shows,
12:25where Clive's been invited to judge the Swaledale sheep.
12:29Oh, there's a ferry over there.
12:31Look at that, Sid.
12:32That's gonna be your home for the next couple of hours.
12:36Woo-hoo!
12:39This will be Sid's first ever ferry crossing, and as predicted, it looks a bit choppy.
12:45So what do you think, Sid? Are you worried?
12:47Nah, I'll be right.
12:49Ha-ha!
12:50We'll just have to grin and bear it, or puke and bear it, whatever the case may be.
12:59Here we go, boys. Do the ship.
13:02The crossing to Larne will take a blustery two hours.
13:10So we, you know, we're not long till we're out into the vastness of the Irish Sea.
13:18It's really cool to be on my first actual ship. It's really cool, isn't it?
13:24You're getting your sea, Lee?
13:26Yeah.
13:29A bit breezy, isn't it, Sid?
13:31Yeah, a little bit.
13:33While the lads battle the windy deck, Clive's waging his own battle in the bathroom.
13:46Dad said he felt sick and left there, but we can't find him.
13:49It's been a bit of a bumpy ride.
13:51Yeah, we survived. I didn't know about Dad, though.
13:56Before long, the boys get their first glimpse of the Emerald Isle.
14:05I've never been to Ireland before, and I've never really left the country properly, so I'm really looking forward to
14:11this.
14:11It's a really good-looking country, isn't it? Very beautiful.
14:20But as they near the port, there's still no sign of Clive.
14:27All right, boys.
14:30The salty sea dog returns.
14:33Where have you been?
14:33We need to go.
14:34Hey, were you all right?
14:35Yeah, all right.
14:35You were fine.
14:36Yeah.
14:37Good lads.
14:38What was up with you?
14:39Eh?
14:39What was up with you?
14:39No, it got me. The bugger got me.
14:43The old seasickness got me. I'll never leave it down.
14:48I just started to sweat.
14:50And I knew it was time to go.
14:54Right. Well, let's go get our car found.
15:02They've made it to dry land, sort of in one piece.
15:07Are you feeling better now, Dad?
15:10I'm grand.
15:13So, lads, what's your first impressions of Ireland?
15:16It's, er, yeah, it's very lush, it's very green.
15:18Farming country.
15:19It is.
15:21See, I think it's my fourth trip, but I'm certainly warm with me lass.
15:32Are we deep enough yet?
15:34Well, I've not found your pipe. Where's your pipe?
15:37I don't know.
15:39On the Cumbrian edge of the Yorkshire Dales,
15:42where rolling hills stretch to the sky,
15:44Reuben, Sonny and Jess are back at a centuries-old country pub,
15:48which has been transformed into a family home.
15:53Six months ago, they were here to shore up an unstable wall.
15:59And now they're back for the next phase, fitting pipe work for a septic tank.
16:05Before the new pipe goes in, they've got to hunt down the old one.
16:11So we're trying to find that pipe so we can shove the new sewerage line through it?
16:15Yeah.
16:16Now, there's been a slight misunderstanding where the pipe was and should be.
16:21It should be underneath where I'm stood, but, yeah, slight problem.
16:25But with Reuben on the digger, the pipe doesn't stay hidden for long.
16:31I'm glad we found that.
16:33Yeah, definitely, sir.
16:35I can't wait to get his pipe working and start with a septic tank.
16:38The job will be lost.
16:42But the pipe isn't all they've uncovered at this former pub.
16:46Hey, Sonny, look in the hole now.
16:48What is it?
16:50Looks like pot from here.
16:56No, it is pot.
16:57And there's more where that came from.
17:02Bit of tablespoons.
17:04Don't know what tablespoons it is, but I don't think it's what's inside it.
17:10Drink it!
17:10Yeah.
17:16First bit of treasure we've found today.
17:18And if treasure means a couple of old bottles and a broken pot, he's hit the mother load.
17:24No way.
17:26It's still got stuff, innit?
17:34What is it, Sonny?
17:36Mount's all right. It's still got lumps of stuff in it.
17:39Delightful.
17:40Smell inside it.
17:41It smells strong.
17:45I think it's an old wine.
17:47Mount's all right.
17:52Well, that's the end of that.
17:59While the trio gets stuck into their mucky job, the other trio are clean and dry in Ireland,
18:05as their road trip heads west towards Donegal.
18:11They're having a tea break on the road with fellow Swaledale sheep farmer and Clonmany show organiser, Owen.
18:19Just like Clive's clan, Owen's wife Olivia and their five children are carrying on a long family tradition of farming.
18:27Welcome back to Ireland, Clive.
18:29Thank you very much indeed. It's lovely to be back.
18:31With these two fellas, yes, first time overseas.
18:35They've never been over the cattle grid before.
18:39It's Clive's second year judging, and as a consummate professional, he stays impartial even when his mates are in the
18:46ring.
18:46So, are you showing tomorrow, Owen?
18:49I am. I will be showing if you're all right.
18:50And the judge is always right, remember?
18:54Yes.
18:55And are you all ready to go?
18:56No, there's a lot of work to do yet.
18:59Dad leaves it all to me, so...
19:01Well, I'm afraid, guys, I can't help you, because I'm judging it, but that doesn't apply to these lads.
19:08So, make them do whatever you like.
19:12Yes.
19:12They'll be a great help.
19:13Give it a go.
19:16Olivia, Miles and Sid have all grown up around farming, and know that the path to a champion Swaledale starts
19:23long before show season.
19:27But finishing touches matter, and pitching in with Olivia lets the boys put Alan's training to the test.
19:35Yeah, so, notice this gimmick healing as soon as we came in. Definitely favoured her over the others, so...
19:41Hopefully.
19:41We'll get her tidied up.
19:43Yeah.
19:44So, she's got lovely markings on her face, lovely white ears. She just needs a few plucking of the grey
19:51hair here.
19:53Fingers crossed that you'll come away with a ticket tomorrow.
19:57As well as brushing and plucking white hairs, it's within the show's rules to dye the wool.
20:02It just really brings out the colour in the wool, makes them stand out a bit more, doesn't it?
20:07The non-toxic dye needs to be sprayed on, but the nozzle's a bit blocked.
20:13Oh, is this blocked or not?
20:15Is it?
20:16Yeah.
20:16Oh!
20:19Oh, seems fine now.
20:21Oh, no!
20:23Oh, whoops.
20:25Well, yeah, no, that's not blocked.
20:27I don't think so.
20:33How much do you put on a lot?
20:35Yeah, we usually put on a lot.
20:37Oh, right, yeah.
20:37Looks much better on the sheep than it does on Sid.
20:48Where there's sheep, there's sheepdogs.
20:50And out in the field, Olivia's eight-year-old brother Jack is putting the family's newest recruit through her paces.
20:58Here's a young fella, look.
21:00Yeah.
21:01Look at that.
21:04A veteran of sheepdog trials, Owens passed the knack onto his lad.
21:10Jack, collar off.
21:12That'll do, Meg!
21:14Meg, sit!
21:15Meg, that'll do!
21:16Sit!
21:17That'll do.
21:18Pa!
21:24Well done.
21:25Well done, young man.
21:27What a good deal.
21:28What a lovely dog you have.
21:29A young man and a young dog.
21:31What could be better?
21:32Chef.
21:34With the show hopefuls prepped, the gang are back from the barn.
21:39Well, guys, how's the sheep looking?
21:41Been plucked, washed, brushed the wool, and I got sprayed in the face with some dye.
21:49The sheep and Sid are scrubbed and ready for tomorrow's show, so it's time for everyone to hit the hay.
21:55Come on, then, come on.
22:03Bright and early in Donegal, the 56th annual Clonmany show is about to begin.
22:10One of Ireland's biggest rural showcases, the two-day event draws thousands for livestock, crafts and top-class competition.
22:21Well, boys, we're here. The sheep pens are empty, but they'll be coming.
22:26We hope.
22:28With the chill of yesterday's storms still in the air, there's a memory the boys haven't quite shaken.
22:34You feeling better after yesterday?
22:37You don't let me forget yesterday, you guys.
22:40You had my little incident on the ship.
22:42That sea air's not getting to you.
22:44No, no, I'm fine.
22:45So, forget all about that sea air.
22:50Unlikely.
22:51But with prized sheep, sizzling stalls of Irish grub, and more vintage tractors than you can shake a spanner at,
22:58Clive's little incident might just slip off the radar.
23:05Right, boys, I've got a fancy badge this here.
23:08Kick her on there.
23:09Kick her on there.
23:11Kick her on there.
23:12Yeah, somewhere there.
23:14Tremendous.
23:15There you go.
23:16Look at that.
23:19You look the part, but whether you're up to it or not...
23:21There you are.
23:23Just remember, Gigi's always right.
23:26Whatever.
23:28Clive's as ready as he'll ever be, so bring on the show sheep.
23:43Tucked away in the northwest of Ireland, Donegal is a land of towering cliffs, sweeping beaches, and, like the Dales,
23:51deep farming roots.
24:00At the prestigious Clonmani show, Clive is raring to go as chief judge of the Swaledale sheep class.
24:08Can I start?
24:09I don't know.
24:09Just when you tell me.
24:12And competition is fierce, as Owen knows only too well.
24:17There's good sheep here.
24:18Yeah, it's going to be a tough one for Dad, definitely.
24:23Your dad will need to be in good form first.
24:25Yeah, I'm sure he will.
24:28Owen's daughter, Olivia, will be first into the ring, with their star yearly new.
24:33Do you think you've got a good chance then?
24:36Hopefully.
24:37I am.
24:37With this one here anyway, I hope.
24:38I like her too.
24:39To get something, I'm sorry.
24:42For the blackface ladder type, the judges on the ring waiting on you.
24:46If you could just bring the sheep to the ring for judging.
24:50Clive's anxious to kick things off.
24:53And, as he keeps telling everyone, the judge is always right.
24:57I think we'll start, lads.
24:58How you doing?
24:59Are you alright?
25:01Good lad.
25:02Good lad.
25:03I think Olivia has a fighting chance with that yell.
25:08It's the one that caught Miles' eye at the farm.
25:10But will Judge Clive agree?
25:14Alright.
25:16He's looking at all the things he really learned at Alan's.
25:19So, yeah.
25:20A man from Swaddell judging Swaddell.
25:22The pressure's on.
25:23Yeah, exactly.
25:24Well said.
25:25Aye.
25:26There's a strong class, lads, this.
25:30It's a tough one, but Clive has made a decision.
25:33Right.
25:34Put that into the top, please.
25:36So, he's ranked Olivia's up into first place, hasn't he?
25:40Yeah.
25:40I don't know, wasn't he?
25:41Up at the top, which is very good.
25:44Who prepped that one, then?
25:45I think I was prepping that now, so...
25:49With a little help from Miles, Olivia's U has made it to the top of the class.
25:54Yes.
25:55Will do.
25:57Well done.
25:59Well done.
26:01Hang on.
26:03Well done.
26:05Thank you very much.
26:07Good class.
26:08Hard class that, boys.
26:10Serious sheep.
26:12They're surprised.
26:15She's a nice sheep, so...
26:17I'm glad we got that with her.
26:18Now that the effort was worth it.
26:21So, happy to get that.
26:24I think there was 14 of them.
26:27So, it took a bit of time to get down to one.
26:30So, yeah.
26:31It comes back to honing you later in the day, so you need to write.
26:34But anyway, that was grand.
26:36I'm happy with that.
26:37So, we'll see what comes next.
26:40Well done, Olivia Owen.
26:42All right, thank you.
26:43All right.
26:43All that work, worth it.
26:45Yeah.
26:45It's a good do.
26:46Well, you said you liked her anyway.
26:49Oh, yeah.
26:49I had a feeling, like, so...
26:51My perspective, isn't it?
26:52I might make a judge after all.
26:53Maybe.
26:54Well, better get this next round.
26:57Yes, we better get going.
26:59Clive is set for a very busy day in the ring.
27:05Over in Blighty, the peaceful serenity of the Yorkshire border
27:08is being somewhat disrupted,
27:10as the groundwork continues at a former country pub.
27:15The pipework phase of Reuben's septic tank job is in full swing,
27:19and it's time to check for any underground blockages.
27:24Do you want, darling, do you want to go pour some water down the manhole?
27:27Yeah.
27:28Turn the hosepipe on.
27:30Look down the manhole cover and point into the middle of that thing.
27:33Are you okay up there?
27:33No, hang on.
27:34It's squirting out of two ends.
27:36Maybe you need to shut one.
27:37Hang on.
27:39I never knew a hosepipe could be so complicated.
27:42Sonny!
27:43You'll get squirted with this thing if you're not careful.
27:46Right, there we are.
27:48Right.
27:52We've got flow.
27:55With a nice, clear flow established,
27:58the team dig out access for the next section of pipe.
28:01Well, this is this bit.
28:02Yeah, it's out.
28:03It's out.
28:04Probes.
28:05Oh, yes!
28:06Now it's just a case of cutting the new pipe to size.
28:11Put your ear next to it.
28:13Sorry?
28:13Put your ear next to it.
28:14You what, Sonny?
28:15Yeah!
28:18There, there.
28:19Meow, meow.
28:20Meow.
28:21Meow.
28:22If only everyone could concentrate.
28:24Do you want me to just saw it through now, yeah?
28:26She wants to cut it straight.
28:28Now?
28:29What?
28:30Yeah, could it?
28:32Quick, Sonny.
28:33Talk to me before she saws through it.
28:36Look at that, mate.
28:37How's it going, bro?
28:39Bye, Sonny.
28:49You two ganging up on me.
28:51Oh, go on then.
28:52Let him do it.
28:54Oh, he's going to be in trouble in a minute.
28:59Is he going to go in that?
29:02Faster.
29:02Yeah, it's going.
29:10Don't crack the pipe.
29:11It's coming in.
29:12It's not far off.
29:16Yeah, maybe you will have to shorten it.
29:21Well, Ruben's gang are still hard at work.
29:25Over in Donegal, Miles and Sid have given Clive the slip
29:29and gone in search of mischief.
29:40Hold on, Siddy.
29:50What was that, Sid?
29:52Ten seconds?
29:53That is actually a lot harder than it looks.
29:55That was disappointing, man.
29:55You can have one to a real one.
29:57I thought you'd be managing...
29:58That is a lot harder than it looks.
29:59Oh, well.
30:00All good fun.
30:02While Miles and Sid have been bothering all creatures,
30:05great and plastic, Owen and Olivia have been racking up the ribbons
30:09with the real thing.
30:11Now then, guys, it looks like you've cleaned them out of rosettes.
30:14Hi.
30:15You must be happy with that.
30:16Yes.
30:16These are just as good as any you'd find in swear there, so...
30:20Do you think so?
30:22I'd say so.
30:22Oh, that's good to hear.
30:25The finest of each class will now battle it out for best in show.
30:31Right, boys.
30:31Well, this is it.
30:32There's just a champion and reserve champion left to get.
30:35So the pressure's on now, boy.
30:37It's up to you now.
30:37You've got to...
30:38From all these sheep, you've whittled them down to this.
30:41So we'd better go and put them out of the misery.
30:43Yeah, keep dying.
30:44All right?
30:46It's the big one, and Judge Clive needs his wits about him.
30:51See, they cannot beat it to black.
30:53No.
31:02Just bring that to here for now, please. I'm not doing anything. I just want them to stand together.
31:12Right.
31:14A decision being made.
31:16Well, this is the man.
31:19There you go.
31:21Well done.
31:21Well done.
31:22Well done.
31:24In a very lovely cup.
31:26Look at that.
31:28It's even got my name.
31:31Well done.
31:32Well done.
31:33Well done.
31:35Well done.
31:44And it's second place for Olivia.
31:46Well, it's a tough thing and it's a shame.
31:48You can't give them to them all.
31:50So a very close share.
31:52It's a lovely yow.
31:53Keep as good as that.
31:54Hard to breathe.
31:55Not quite top spot, but still plenty to be proud of.
31:59All right.
32:00Well then.
32:00Maybe Owen.
32:01Reserve champion.
32:03Yes.
32:03You must be happy with that.
32:04Oh, I did.
32:05What a result.
32:06Maybe next year she'll get the champ.
32:08There you go.
32:14Clive's judging duties are over.
32:17Just in time for the show's iconic tractor run.
32:26It's the boys' turn to put some work in.
32:29They've both scored themselves a couple of vintage rides
32:32from the kind locals.
32:33Miles on a pristine 1968 International.
32:37Are you sure?
32:38Thank you very much.
32:40And Sid on a 50s major.
32:43Near identical to the one he's got back in the Dales.
32:48Are we ready to rock and roll, yeah?
32:50Ah, yeah.
32:51Right.
32:51So, aye.
32:52Have a good time.
32:54Just don't drive it like you do your own at all.
32:57No, I'm very gentle.
33:04Come on, Sid.
33:07And with the Irish wind in their hair
33:09and Clive's warnings ringing in their ears,
33:12the convoy heads Beachwood.
33:24Right.
33:25You get her in position.
33:27Back in Cumbria, Ruben's crew have finally got the septic tank pipework in.
33:32And the one-ton bags of gravel have landed to lock it all in place.
33:37Do the honours, Mr. Billington.
33:43There's going to be a lot of pressure through here, so it wants lots in there.
33:47Right.
33:50Do you want me up there or not? Have you spread it out already?
33:53Jess is ten times faster than you, Bill.
33:55No, I don't.
33:56You only beat you to it.
33:57Good, though.
33:59There you go.
34:00Oh, there.
34:00Go on, go on.
34:02Yeah, you're in.
34:02They'll be back in a few weeks to fit the septic tank.
34:05But for now, they can take a well-earned rest.
34:08You got any plans for the summer, Sonny?
34:10When you book a holiday, I'll book a holiday.
34:12We've been meaning to book a holiday for months, haven't we?
34:14But we've just been too busy.
34:15But we need to get on with this week, don't we?
34:17Yeah.
34:17Where are we going?
34:17I don't know yet.
34:18A few ideas.
34:20Probably climbing on a holiday.
34:22So, have you heard off and while living in Ireland, enjoying yourselves?
34:25No, I haven't heard anything.
34:26Nothing at all.
34:27They're living the high life.
34:29So, yeah, we should be having a good time.
34:32That's a fair assessment.
34:35Because over in Donegal, astride a couple of borrowed rigs bound for the sandy splendour of Tuller Bay,
34:41Miles and Sid are having the time of their lives.
34:52Go on, Sid, are we?
35:14How was that then, Sid?
35:16Yeah, good, thank you.
35:17I really enjoyed the ride out, right onto the beach.
35:19Grand weather for it.
35:20Could be a first for both of them.
35:21I think that is a first for both of them, definitely.
35:25They're back in the nick of time.
35:28Because one of the show's biggest highlights is about to begin.
35:31The All Nations Shearing Championships.
35:33And it's not to be missed.
35:36Luckily, Clive has bagged them a prime spot in the tent.
35:40So, here we are, lads. Great excitement.
35:42We're here to watch the Open International.
35:45So, we're going to see the very best six shearers in the world.
35:50So, it didn't get any better than this.
35:53The six international champs will race against the clock to shear 20 sheep apiece.
35:58And after completing a shearing course earlier in the summer,
36:01the lads know just what they're up against.
36:04Yeah, well, we know how hard it is, don't we, Miles?
36:07Yeah, we did the course.
36:08Yeah, what were you guys trying to do?
36:10Three in half an hour?
36:12That took some deep.
36:12These guys are doing 20 in 15 minutes, roughly.
36:17So, yeah. So, just show how good they are.
36:23Come on, attention, please.
36:25The competitors have travelled from all over the world
36:28to showcase their shearing prowess.
36:30And it's crunch time.
36:32Come on, shear them on, ladies and gentlemen.
36:34Come on, stand up. It's all you appreciate.
36:35Come on.
36:36Everybody, stand up. Come on.
36:37Come on.
36:38All the best, boys.
36:44Jack, you happy?
36:46We're ready to get on the way.
36:48Five years ready.
36:50Two years ready.
36:52Come on, Russell.
36:53And they're off.
36:54Here's the number one, Jack Bagan.
36:56Stand up.
36:57I'm signing off the bad guys.
36:58This is Jack Bagan, the new Leelan boy.
37:0036 seconds for the World Chief.
37:02Out comes Jack Bagan.
37:03He's having a cracking cheer there.
37:05Come on, to the block.
37:06They're going to have some steam in here.
37:07He's going on 110 miles an hour.
37:10He's absolutely fine.
37:11He's going to cheer three sheets a minute
37:12for over two minutes here.
37:14Put your eye on right there and put it in.
37:16For team number six.
37:17He's the World Champion.
37:18But it doesn't matter.
37:19That was it.
37:20This is now.
37:21You're only as good as your last cheer
37:22and your current cheer, Jones.
37:24I've never seen a fella clip like you.
37:29The leader is already on to sheet number 17
37:32and the wool is flying.
37:37Where's your money, Sid?
37:38Where's your money on?
37:39Number two.
37:40Number two?
37:41I think so.
37:42He looks like he's going to put the pressure
37:44on clear now in the last couple of sheets here.
37:47He's going to bring real clear Jones in.
37:49But it's still all about clear Jones now at the moment.
37:51Clear Jones from Wales has finished first.
37:55Woo!
37:56How are you going?
37:57That's really sad.
37:58We're cheering now on clear Jones here.
38:0020 sheets gone in a little over 15 minutes.
38:03Absolutely unbelievable.
38:04But it's not just about speed.
38:07The judges are also looking for style
38:08and they've made their call.
38:10Let's get a look.
38:11Go to the winner and lighten.
38:15Welshman Gwian Lloyd-Evans is the champ,
38:18cheering 20 sheet beautifully in just over 15 minutes.
38:22Donegal won't be short of woolly jumpers this winter.
38:24Well, well done.
38:26Well done.
38:26Well done.
38:27Absolutely amazing.
38:28All my life I've achieved.
38:30But I've never seen anything like that before.
38:34So what do you think of that boys?
38:35Probably one of the most impressive things I've ever seen really.
38:38I was getting a sweat on just watching.
38:40I couldn't imagine doing that many that fast.
38:42Tough guys?
38:44Yeah.
38:48It was a nail biting finish to a jam packed trip.
38:52But the boys can't head home without one last taste of Irish culture.
39:15Owen and his family have invited the lads to join them at their local pub.
39:19And the party is in full swing.
39:27Right.
39:28Well here we are in a proper Irish pub.
39:31Yeah.
39:32You know?
39:32And they absolutely love the music.
39:43So, is there any musicians in your family?
39:45Ellie.
39:46Ellie's here tonight.
39:47And she's a lovely singer.
39:49So, I wonder then if we could persuade her to sing tonight.
39:54What do you think?
39:55I think so.
39:56I think so.
39:57I'll make you a deal.
39:58What?
39:58If I sing a song, you have to sing a song.
40:01Oh!
40:03So, right, you're telling me that if you would sing,
40:07if I would sing.
40:08That's what I'm saying.
40:09Give it a hand.
40:11Good luck.
40:13But you've got to go first.
40:18As I stand aboard the starboard bow and watch the ocean fall.
40:28As I view each new horizon, I drive further from my home.
40:35A sailor on a foreign ship and bound from Montreal
40:43To view the world would make my destination
40:50Donegal, oh Donegal, I'll miss you
40:56And I'll never understand
40:59Why I left you for these far-off lands
41:04Against my heart's command
41:07I know I'll make my final destination
41:15Donegal
41:22Get a gear going, eh?
41:25Fired up by the local talent, Clive's ready to take part in his own unique style
41:31Well, we've heard some wonderful stuff tonight
41:33You're very talented, but all that's stuck on now
41:38So, is there any farmers in here? Is there any farmers?
41:42There's one or two, there's all in here
41:44This is a song that should be sung in maybe middle of winter, February time
41:50Because it's a song about running out of hay
42:20Now I'm farming up in Swaledale
42:52And I hope he will pull through
42:53And you thought, hey, I've got a lull of it on the box
42:57That'll have to do
43:01Thank you
43:04It was Miles and Sid's first adventure overseas
43:07And so that's been really good for them
43:09I think some lovely memories
43:10We've made great friends in Ireland
43:12And, yeah, so I'm sure we'll be back to see them again
43:26Right, well, thank you all very much for having us over here
43:29And we're just having a wonderful time
43:31Thank you
43:32Cheers, everybody
43:33Cheers
43:34All the very best
43:36Cheers
43:53Next time, Ruben and the lads get stuck into finishing a wildlife pond
43:58How do you get someone unstuck at the side of a pond?
44:01Brilliant, just brilliant
44:03Stop taking the heifers turns to chaos
44:06More, please, more
44:10He's in the land area
44:11And while the bus is away, Sonny and Kappa will play
44:15Oh, he's going to hold the TV
44:18No, no, no
44:21No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
44:39no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
