00:00And I was thinking about how we'll probably all have a giant hangover the day that this first starts airing.
00:05So what is the Tucker Whitemore go-to hangover cure?
00:08Oh, gosh, sweat. I like to get, yes, if I'm super hungover, one thing that helps me is like a
00:17gallon of water in a sauna. And maybe if I'm feeling up to it, like I'll work out, but most
00:24of the time I'm not feeling up to it if I'm super hungover like that.
00:27Right. Do you cold plunge after USANA?
00:30Not often. I have.
00:33I almost can't do it. Like I'm such a baby. Like I can do one or the other, but I
00:37cannot do them together. It's probably like the best way to get a hangover out, but like there's just no
00:41way I'm doing it.
00:42Yeah, no, I agree. It does help. Cold plunge does definitely help.
00:46For sure. All right. So let's talk about ACMs. What does it mean to you getting this nomination for new
00:53male artist of the year? Like what was your reaction to this? How excited were you?
00:58Ecstatic, honestly. You know, I think what it means to me is just like it's just a testimony of all
01:05the like hard work, not just me, but like my team has done over the past couple of years, you
01:13know, and, you know, because I moved to Nashville in 2020 and I didn't know anybody and I didn't I
01:19didn't know anything.
01:19Like I was green as green could get. And, you know, it's just it's just a testimony of like you
01:27follow God's path.
01:28You follow, you know, what he has in store for you. It's it's all going to work out.
01:32And that's just what I've been doing for six years now.
01:34And the fact that it's kind of getting recognized by, you know, the people around me, it's it's it's a
01:43blessing.
01:44I want to talk about something you said, like it's so exciting for you and your team, like because there
01:49is like I don't think people realize like the village it takes to make Tucker Wetmore become Tucker Wetmore.
01:54And so like it really is cool to be able to like share that with all of them.
01:57Like they're just as excited as you are.
01:59Yeah, I agree. No, they're ecstatic. We're all over the moon.
02:03You're also nominated. I think it's the week after the ACMs for the American Music Awards.
02:07You got two nominations there, which is just huge.
02:10That's that's crazy, too. I mean, it's just I've been busy, busy, busy out here, but there's been so much
02:16stuff going on back home that is just so great.
02:19And I haven't really wrapped my head around it yet because, you know, I'm I'm out here and I'm, you
02:25know, show, show, show, show, new city, new country.
02:27Honestly, I've been in three continents in the last.
02:32I can't like five weeks, you know, it's just it's crazy, but I'm excited to get back and get back
02:39to work.
02:40Yeah, for sure. Let's talk about Vernette climbing the charts.
02:43I feel like this has been so great because you just have been able to have so much fun with
02:46this song and the fans have had so much fun with this song.
02:49Yeah, no, it's and that's what it is. That's what Vernette is.
02:53It's just a fun song. It's tongue in cheeky. It's just it's it's.
02:59Lyrically, a song that I haven't ever heard before, you know, and and even vibe wise got that old Western
03:06vibe and with like new new new age flavors.
03:11And I don't know, it's just a it's a different song.
03:15And I I didn't expect this out of this song when I first, you know, heard it and recorded it
03:20and and put it out to the world.
03:22But there was always that feeling of like, OK, the girls are the girls are really going to like this.
03:27I think blondes and brunettes are both going to like this song.
03:30And, you know, I just it's proven itself time and time again.
03:34For sure. Can you talk about the story behind like when you got sent that song, when you first listened
03:38to it, when you were like, I am going to cut this.
03:40Yeah. So I was about to get on a plane.
03:42I think it was in. Ohio or something, I can't remember, but I texted I texted my manager.
03:50I was like, hey, send me some songs, some outside songs.
03:54I got some time to kill on this on this flight.
03:57I'll just I'll spend it listening to music, you know, and so she sent a couple and a couple of
04:05them were like really good, but just not the right fit for the album.
04:07And then I got to Burnett. It was like the fourth song she sent me and I go, you don't
04:12need to send anymore.
04:13This is this is it. And when I first got it sent to me, it was just that guitar like
04:18the down.
04:18No, no, no, no, no, no, no, you know, and obviously the lyrics and the melodies and everything.
04:23But then we made it into this Western type punch in the face song that it is now.
04:31And I don't know, it's just we had a feeling back then.
04:35And I guess I could say I had a feeling back then that it could be something cool, but I
04:39didn't expect it to be what it is today.
04:42And even live, it is the craziest song in my set right now.
04:46And it is it is so cool to see.
04:49That's amazing. And I also like this is going to be three back to back number ones, which is pretty
04:53badass.
04:53I hope so. If it goes, knock on wood.
04:56Knock on wood.
04:57We're a man. This is going number one.
04:59I'm not even stressed about that.
05:00Yeah, it'd be exciting.
05:02It's so exciting. And it would be my yeah, my first three singles go in number one and it'd be
05:12three in a row at the same time.
05:13So that's I don't know. God is good.
05:16That's all I got to say.
05:18For sure. I also was thinking it's so crazy that this week it will be a year since the album
05:24came out.
05:24Like I was like, how is that possible?
05:26Yes, that's great.
05:28What?
05:29That's wild. I didn't know that.
05:32Tucker, think about like, what do you feel like has changed the most in your life in the last year
05:35other than time has flown by?
05:38Yeah.
05:40Time.
05:42Time doesn't exist in a real way for you anymore.
05:44I don't sleep.
05:48I don't know. It's just a lot has changed for the better.
05:52Honestly, the shows are getting bigger.
05:57The the streams are growing, you know, the just everything.
06:04I don't know. I can't really pinpoint just one thing.
06:06You know, I'm kind of just stuck in the tornado right now.
06:08So it's kind of it's kind of hard to see outside of it.
06:12But it's just everything is changing.
06:14Everything is growing.
06:15And it's it's just on a very good path right now.
06:18And I can't be happier.
06:20I'm good. I'm glad to hear that.
06:22Do you have somebody right now who you can talk to?
06:23Because I do feel like you are in that this time as an artist where like you are stuck in
06:27the tornado.
06:28And sometimes it I hear people talk a lot about how that phase can feel really lonely because other people
06:33around you, like it's hard to relate to what you're going through.
06:36Like there's very few people who get to experience this.
06:38Yeah.
06:38Yeah. Um, Jesus, I talk to him a lot about it.
06:44That's a good person to go to.
06:45That's right.
06:47But yeah, I mean, there's there's definitely people that I talk to.
06:51You know, I haven't I haven't talked to him in a while.
06:53But, you know, when I was on that Thomas Red tour, I talked to him a lot about, you know,
06:57what would you do in this situation?
06:59Or how do you how do you go through this or whatnot?
07:01And he was, you know, so kind to just put me under his wing throughout that whole tour.
07:05And just I feel like I could call him up at any time and just be like, hey, man, I'm
07:10going through this.
07:10What would you do?
07:11He he would be like, oh, I went through this at this this time.
07:14And this is what I did.
07:15And, you know, and I feel like I could I could hit up Jelly Roll.
07:20So I feel like I could hit up Jelly Roll and he would just give me the best advice in
07:24the world.
07:25Just get on the phone, be preaching.
07:27And you're like, you feel better every time.
07:28I got I got my hand up.
07:30I'm sitting there as a preacher brother.
07:33But yeah, TR is such a good person to go to because TR never really like he's serious, but he
07:38never takes anything too seriously.
07:40Yeah.
07:40You know what I mean?
07:41And like that, I feel like he always just has like a very calming presence.
07:45Yeah.
07:46No, that's that's him to a T.
07:47And, you know, Jordan Davis is another one of those dudes that he just cares.
07:53He cares not just about what he's doing, but the people around him.
07:56And, you know, he wants to see me succeed.
07:58I was I was just out on a couple of shows with him in Australia and we got to hang
08:02out a little bit.
08:04But yeah, it's just it's it's cool to have some good people around me that care about my world.
08:10For sure.
08:11Definitely.
08:11And I know that you also in the midst of everything that's going on with the world tour,
08:15you also have been making stops at like studios abroad and you've been working on the next album.
08:21What can you say about that?
08:23Not much right now.
08:24Yeah.
08:25Under lock and beat.
08:27Yeah.
08:29It is it is done.
08:32We finished recording it.
08:33So we spent six days out in Switzerland and I I put vocals on 11 songs in five days, which
08:41is oh, my gosh, a lot.
08:43I was I was so tired.
08:45I bet you were.
08:47But we did that.
08:48And so we finished recording the record.
08:50Now it's getting mixed and mastered and getting all the buttons, you know, making sure they're all in the right
08:56places.
08:56And it's coming along and it feels that's awesome.
09:00It feels so good, Katie.
09:01It feels I don't know.
09:04I don't know how to explain it.
09:04Wait, say more.
09:05Why does it feel good?
09:06Like what is different about this or like what do you feel excited about?
09:08I know it's hard to talk about at the same time, but.
09:11And yeah, this is going to sound super cliche because I feel like everybody says this, but I truly mean
09:19it when I say it's just it is different, you know, and I'm not.
09:24I feel like in the first record I was, you know, OK, what is this?
09:29What is that?
09:30What is, you know, what is country, you know, and kind of.
09:36But now I'm I'm I'm implementing all of my influences.
09:39So like I brought all the walls down on this record when it came to like my creative side of
09:46my brain.
09:47I'm like, OK, what do I enjoy listening to?
09:50How can I implement what makes me love music into my music and, you know, between guitar tones or drum
10:00tones or, you know, licks or whatever it is and like just different parts and even melodies, too.
10:07It's just.
10:09I, I love I love all music and I don't think it should be put in a box ever, you
10:14know, I don't I don't think it should just be, oh, this is this, this is that.
10:18Well, obviously, we got different genres, but it's it's OK to implement music when.
10:23And in parts of music that needs it or wants it, you know, or if it just feels right, it
10:28feels right.
10:29For sure. And you should be making music that you love to play.
10:32Like you're the one who has to get up and sing me songs every night.
10:35So like you want to enjoy it. And I feel like that's what I'm excited about hearing you talk about
10:39this is that like you're going to have so much fun with it.
10:41And then in turn, we all will, too.
10:43I hope so. I am a little nervous for the world to hear.
10:47You are?
10:47It is different. And it's it's it's like it's something I haven't really heard before.
10:52And so, like, in a way, we're kind of just trying to, like, create this new thing and either that
10:59will work or it will not.
11:02But I got a good feeling it will.
11:04How was it like recording abroad? Like, was everything the same? Was anything different?
11:10It was pretty much the same. I mean, it was a studio, you know, in the middle of Switzerland.
11:15But it was it was beautiful out there. And it was so nice to just be able to take a
11:19break from recording and like stepping outside and seeing the mountains and seeing the river and the lake and all
11:26that stuff.
11:26And so it was good, like, on a mental space and in that capacity.
11:32But it was pretty much the same as walking into a studio in Nashville.
11:37Other than that, I have to imagine that at some point you stepped outside and you're like,
11:40like, how is a kid from Washington State in Switzerland right now recording a sophomore album?
11:46Like, did you have a moment like that?
11:48I think that every day, honestly, not even just with that circumstance, but like every day I feel that, you
11:55know, it's like I still have that little kid in me that is just like jumping up and down 24
12:01-7.
12:02And I got to play it cool every once in a while, most of the time.
12:06But, you know, I still got that kid in me that's just sitting down at the piano for the first
12:11time or picking up that guitar for the first time or trying to sing that melody for the first time.
12:17You know, it's like I started this journey a long, long time ago before I even knew what I was
12:22wanted to do, you know.
12:25Exactly.
12:26You know, he definitely screams every once in a while.
12:30That's amazing.
12:31So you are coming to the end of the Burnett World Tour.
12:34What do you feel like has been your biggest takeaway with this now, like having traveled the world playing these
12:39songs?
12:40I want more songs out there.
12:41Yeah.
12:42I'm excited to get more songs out there.
12:45You know, because like I said, or like you said earlier, it's almost a year to the day since I
12:52released my first album and we've been touring on these songs for a year now.
12:57And I'm just, I'm ready to kind of put some new stuff in the set and test out a couple
13:02of things.
13:02But I don't know, my biggest takeaway is probably just trusting the process and being content where I am.
13:10I think, I think a big thing for me for the past year, especially going into the top of this
13:14year, is contentment and just being where my feet are and enjoying the little things and not, not worrying so
13:21much about tomorrow.
13:23Because like God says, tomorrow, worry about it itself, you know, and just being where I am.
13:30I love that.
13:31I saw that you also got to spend some time with some of the troops.
13:34Where was that?
13:35How was that?
13:36It was amazing.
13:38That was definitely a bucket list item for me that I got to check off a couple of weeks ago.
13:41So we went to Guam and we were there for a couple of days and I went around, met a
13:51bunch of the, met a bunch of the people at the, at the base.
13:56So we went to the Navy base and the, and the Air Force base.
14:00Oh wow, so you got to go to multiple bases.
14:02That's awesome.
14:03Yeah.
14:04And I get to go on, I got to go on a submarine.
14:07What?
14:08Yeah.
14:08I wasn't able to like take any pictures or videos or anything.
14:11No, no, no, of course not.
14:12All technology in a box.
14:14But yeah, we walked throughout this entire submarine.
14:16It was, it was the USS Ohio.
14:18So it's the biggest submarine in the world.
14:20I'm pretty sure.
14:20And it just happened to be in Guam at that point.
14:23And so I got to meet that entire, that entire team and got to walk through it.
14:30And then I would sit there and play a couple of songs and then take pictures and meet people and
14:34talk about their stories.
14:35And it was just, it was one of the most like heart filling things that I've ever done just because
14:41I have a lot of military background in my, in my family.
14:45And I'm, I'm actively trying to do things, you know, in my life that I can give back to, you
14:51know, active duty members and, you know, former, you know, veterans.
14:55And, you know, like one ticket, one, one, I mean, $1 from every ticket this entire year goes straight to
15:06a thing called face the fight.
15:08And they, they just, it's an avenue for like mental health for veterans and like active duty members.
15:15And that's just, that hits home for me a lot.
15:19Just being able to be out there.
15:21Yeah, being able to be out there.
15:22It was awesome.
15:24That's so cool.
15:25And then you mentioned doing some shows with Jordan Davis and then you've got shows with Hardy coming up after
15:30Burnett World Tour.
15:32Ravs, what are you looking forward to about that?
15:33Hanging out with him, honestly.
15:36Yeah, I've, I've been a, I've been a huge Hardy fan for as long as I can remember before I
15:41even moved to Nashville.
15:44And my mom is like the, the biggest Hardy fan in the world.
15:48Loves him.
15:48Is she really?
15:49Oh my gosh.
15:50It's the funniest thing in the world.
15:52So that was kind of cool that I got to tell her that I'm going on, on the road with
15:55him.
15:56But it's just, it's going to be cool.
15:58And it's going to be another instance of where I can just learn a lot and I'm just going to
16:02be a sponge.
16:03And that's what I've been doing for the past couple of years is just learning and learning and learning and,
16:08you know, trying to build my team and my, and, and the pillars of what I'm trying to build.
16:14Just make them as strong as possible by learning from these veterans and the people that have been doing it
16:20a lot longer than I have.
16:21You know, like, I'll never pretend like I'm the best there is because I'm not, you know, and like, there's
16:28a lot of wisdom out there to be learned.
16:29And I'm just excited to do that.
16:32You know, I went in and I went into the Thomas Rhett tour with the same mindset.
16:35I went into, you know, even farm tour with Luke Bryan or, you know, the, the Australian dates with Jordan.
16:43And, you know, it's like every opportunity I get to open for somebody, I'm going to take it to learn.
16:48Yeah, of course.
16:49I'm trying to wrap my head around your mom being at a Hardy show, like during his like death metal
16:54part of his set.
16:56She loves it.
16:57I don't know.
16:58That's incredible to me.
17:00It baffles me, but she loves it.
17:03That's so much fun.
17:04I love that.
17:04Well, listen, I know that you are so tired and that you're so busy right now.
17:07Thank you so much for the time.
17:08It was great to see you.
17:09So congratulations on the nominations on Burnett.
17:12We're so excited for you and we'll see you a few weeks at ACMs, which is crazy.
17:17I'll be there.
17:18All right.
17:19Awesome.
17:19Get home, get some sleep.
17:20We'll see you soon.
17:21Yes, ma'am.
17:22Thank you, Katie.
17:23Thanks, Doug.
17:23Bye.
