Beef yakiniku don is a quick Japanese rice bowl recipe that layers tender beef over warm steamed rice with homemade Japanese BBQ sauce. This dish usually uses thinly sliced beef cooked fast in a hot pan, then coated with a savory sauce made from soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, garlic, ginger, sesame oil, or grated fruit for sweetness and depth. As the sauce reduces, it clings to the beef and creates a glossy finish with balanced umami, sweetness, and aroma. The warm rice absorbs the extra sauce, making each bite rich and satisfying without needing a long cooking time. The final yakiniku don comes together in about ten minutes and pairs well with green onion, sesame seeds, kimchi, lettuce, egg, or pickles for an easy Japanese-style lunch or dinner.

00:00Hi everyone, I'm Yuto and today on Stachi I'm going to show you how to make a delicious
00:0410 minute beef yakiniku donburi.
00:08We're going to start by making a simplified shortcut yakiniku sauce, so grab a bowl and
00:13add 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, 2 tablespoons of mirin, half tablespoons of ketchup, 1 teaspoon
00:20of honey, 1 teaspoon of garlic paste, 1 teaspoon of ginger paste, half tablespoon of sesame
00:27oil, half tablespoon of sesame seeds, half teaspoon of chili powder, quarter teaspoon
00:35of lemon juice, 1 teaspoon of apple juice and quarter teaspoon of ground black pepper.
00:42This serves 2 and I've put a list of ingredients in the description.
00:47Once you've mixed it, place it next to the stove ready for later.
00:56Next, heat your pan on high and add a drizzle of oil.
00:59When it's nice and hot, add 300g of sliced beef.
01:04I'm using beef harami or skirt steak which is popular in yakiniku restaurants.
01:09You can use whatever cut you like but I suggest something a bit fatty so it stays tender and
01:15juicy after frying.
01:19This high heat is cooking the beef quickly so you need to act fast and turn it over as
01:24soon as it's browned.
01:25If you want to add vegetables to the dish, you'd need to fry those before the beef.
01:30Things like onions, bell peppers or asparagus work very well.
01:34Once seared on both sides, add the sauce and cook for about a minute and a half.
01:40I like my beef a little bit rare so I don't worry about it being cooked all the way through
01:46but if you prefer it well done or you try making this dish with pork or chicken then you can
01:51increase the cooking time.
01:53When the meat is cooked to your liking and the sauce has thickened a bit, take the pan off
01:59the heat.
01:59Arrange the beef slices over freshly cooked rice.
02:02I used my rice cooker for convenience but if you're interested in learning how to cook
02:07Japanese rice on the stove, I have a recipe on my channel.
02:11Drizzle the leftover sauce over the top and make a bed of chopped green onions.
02:17These add refreshing flavour and make a stable platform for the egg.
02:23I like serving it with a raw egg yolk but if that's not your thing, you can just add a
02:29boiled egg or hot spring egg instead.
02:33And that's it, super easy short cut yakiniku donburi in a frying pan.
02:37And great news, I've launched a free mobile app that makes following along with my recipes
02:42even easier.
02:43It's the perfect kitchen companion after watching my videos.
