Here’s a clip from The Mind of Sai Marie podcast today featuring urban fantasy powerhouse, Deborah Wilde, in conversation about her brilliant, laugh-out-loud books. This work confronts the ridiculous pressures of social expectations, the freedom of ditching the shapewear, and the courage it takes for women to absolutely refuse to behave.

In this episode, we explored the fierce realities of midlife magic, the resilience required to maintain absolute personal sovereignty, and the role of unfiltered storytelling in reclaiming identity, boundary-setting, and creative autonomy.

00:00Tell us about the importance of writing dynamic, slow burn relationships where the heroine
00:04maintains her complete autonomy, even when facing a sexy nemesis or a grumpy French wolf
00:09shifter.
00:10The joy of writing my women is not that they are looking for completion.
00:15It's that they're going to stand toe to toe with these infuriating males.
00:19So again, a big part of my upbringing was a steady diet of old Hollywood screwball comedies
00:26with characters, you know, like Rosalind Russell and Cary Grant in His Girl Friday, like just
00:31going at it, but each really holding their own.
00:34And so I have a very deep love of that dynamic and I really enjoy playing it out in different
00:39ways in my books.
00:40Before we wrap up, we have to talk about Nava Katz, your unlikable demon hunter who started
00:45it all.
00:45Whether it's Nava, Ashira in the Jezebel files or Miriam throwing shade, you clearly love
00:50a heroine who refuses to apologize for taking up space.
00:53Why is that unapologetic personal sovereignty such a vital and powerful theme for you to
00:58put out into the world?
