00:00Sure, calling him the mayonnaise villain was funny. I'll admit that.
00:06But we need to talk about why Lestat is so much more than his very worst traits.
00:23So, in the vampire Lestat, we are introduced to him as he's becoming a rock star.
00:30Which, he is quite egocentric at this point. No lie.
00:34But Lestat evolves from a chaotic rock star into a crucial protector later on.
00:42And what a lot of people don't seem to know is that Anne Rice actually interconnected both the Mayfair witches
00:49and the Vampire Chronicles stories.
00:53And I don't want to give away too many spoilers.
00:56So, if you haven't read it and you don't want spoilers, let this be the point where you drop off.
01:02But, um, Rowan Mayfair and Lestat de Longcourt, they have a little romantic thing and he falls in love with
01:10her.
01:10Believe it or not.
01:11So, there's so much that happens with Lestat that seems to be underplayed.
01:18But yet, I don't want to underplay the fact that AMC's series is amazing and that Sam Reid is absolutely
01:25100% the epitome Lestat de Longcourt personified.
01:30If ever there were anyone born for the role, he is it.
01:34So, yeah, Lestat is dramatic.
01:37He's absolutely cunty at times.
01:39But he was a rebellious, charismatic romantic who wanted people to make art, drink wine, and smile before Magnus got
01:50a hold of him, that was.
01:51And, of course, his story really doesn't stop with the Vampire Lestat.
01:55It goes far beyond that.
01:58And, um, Interview with the Vampire, Queen of the Damned are the primary things that people have been exposed to.
02:04But long-term Anne Rice fans, and especially fans of the Vampire Chronicles, all know his story absolutely does not
02:12stop with the Vampire Lestat.
02:13He evolves massively across the Vampire Chronicles, the New Tales, and, of course, the Mayfair Witch crossovers.
02:20This is a man who goes from a chaotic rock star to a crucial protector, who helps solve supernatural crises,
02:28and he shows immense maturity as he grows and evolves, and his character arc, you know, changes.
02:34Um, eventually he even, this is a spoiler part, um, falls in love with Rowan Mayfair.
02:40And so he's so much more than just his worst traits.
02:44He's a story, a centuries-long epic of trauma, survival, and genuine growth, to be honest.
02:52And, of course, I don't know if any of you have seen it.
02:54I have seen it, and I am in love with it, absolutely.
02:58And, you know, this character changing as time goes on, it's just what makes Anne such a great writer, honestly.
03:07So, he evolves over the course of the Vampire Chronicles, like I said, and later, when Anne wrote further books
03:14like Blood and Gold and Blackwood Farm, Lestat, like I said, is a key character in aiding with different paranormal
03:20issues, and then falling in love with Rowan Mayfair.
03:24Um, and I feel like it, it's a lot of people in the fanbase who are not fully abreast of
03:32all of Lestat's character and arc changes, and sometimes they kind of pigeonhole him a little bit into the Rat
03:38Prince era.
03:39Which isn't to knock that, that is the Vampire Lestat, right?
03:43Um, but, you know, that's kind of pigeonholing him into the TVL version of Lestat, and there's so much more
03:53there to work with.
03:54Honestly, read the books.
03:55Like, I cannot, I cannot encourage you more to read the books, because you really get to see this character
04:03in ways otherwise you would not.
04:05And, um, Sam Reid, 100%, like I said, Lestat personified, and is the epitome of the Brat Prince in every
04:15possible way.
