00:03NextEra Energy agreed to acquire Dominion Energy in a roughly $67 billion mostly stock deal,
00:09creating one of the largest U.S. utility companies as electricity demand rises from
00:14artificial intelligence data centers, according to the Wall Street Journal.
00:18The combined company would expand across Florida, the Carolinas, and Virginia,
00:22and would require approval from state and federal regulators.
00:26NextEra has a market value of nearly $200 billion,
00:29while Dominion has a market value of about $50 billion.
00:34Dominion said data centers accounted for 28% of its Virginia electricity sales
00:38last year after connecting more than 450 facilities in the state.
00:43Utilities are also facing rising costs and pressure over energy affordability,
00:47while planning billions of dollars in new power generation and transmission investments.
