00:00President Trump moved to drop his $10 billion lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service this morning,
00:05according to court documents filed in Miami,
00:08a signal that the administration is preparing to move forward
00:11with a plan to set up what's now being reported as a $1.8 billion fund.
00:16That fund would compensate allies who claim they were wrongfully targeted by the Biden administration,
00:22including the nearly 1,600 individuals charged in connection with the January 6th Capitol attack
00:28and would draw money directly from the Treasury Department's Judgment Fund, which is taxpayer money.
00:34The commission overseeing the fund would have total authority to hand out that money
00:38and would be under no obligation to declose its procedures or decision-making.
00:43Nearly 100 House Democrats responded by filing a friend-of-the-court brief this morning,
00:48accusing Trump of, quote, blatant self-dealing.
00:51A federal judge has already been questioning whether the lawsuit even belonged in her courtroom,
00:56so the timing here is notable.
