00:02it's not unusual for a house hunt to have a homecoming at its heart but today's escapees
00:11know their search area better than most my sister used to live on this state no way other side yes
00:17very well that means we hit a familiar spot or two do you recognize the area yes we often go
00:25for a stroll with our daughter along the road here but we've still got some surprises up our sleeves
00:32I loved it with a capital L and a capital O and a capital V and a capital E
01:06wetlands water sports and Welsh culture if you're after a wonderful escape we've got the why when
01:17and where welcome to come Marthenshire mostly green and almost always serene Carmarthenshire is
01:26somewhere you can really take your foot off the gas apart from here pendine sands seven miles of
01:33beach for some but for others it's a petrolheads delight this is where land speed records have
01:39been broken so whether you want to escape to the country in the fast lane or the slow Carmarthenshire
01:45could be a permanent pit stop located in South West Wales Carmarthenshire's expansive and
01:54characteristically flat coastline is now seeing a big push for nature good news for all who like a walk
02:02on the wild side an amazing place to come and just watch birds I've got my binoculars with me today
02:08second largest tidal range in the world things I like looking along the tide line for special shells
02:14loads to be interested in here the mythic home of Merlin the wizard residents and visitors alike will tell
02:22you there's certainly something magical here the best thing about Carmarthenshire I would say is being
02:29able to go down by the beach the lush green countryside it's quiet it doesn't get too busy all year
02:34round I've
02:35been coming for a long long time 50 60 years it's just a lovely part of the world it's just
02:41so
02:41picturesque it's it's calming it's soothing you come here you sit on the beach with your book and
02:46everything's all right with the world
02:56there's nothing quite like a homecoming and for my couple today moving back to Carmarthenshire is exactly
03:02what their escape to the country is all about in 2020 we moved to the Wokingham Redding area because
03:12Ben is part of the Paralympic GB training squad which train in Carversham near Redding
03:22Welsh rower and Paralympic gold medalist Ben and his wife Megan a physiotherapist along with their two-year-old
03:29daughter ever are currently living between parents in Wales whilst they wait to sell their bungalow near
03:35the Berkshire town of Wokingham so I grew up in an area called Amford and Ben is from an area
03:42of Swansea
03:43called Mumbles and we both really enjoyed going to the beaches and we'd love for our daughter to
03:49grow up in the same environment Meg's family are full of Welsh speakers and it's really important for us to
03:56pass that on to ever and let ever grow up with a local language and amongst family but unfortunately we
04:03haven't found the right house yet I'm a wheelchair user and because of that we're either looking for a
04:11bungalow or but the floor plan would have to enable a lift to go from downstairs to upstairs which has
04:19been
04:19pretty tough to find and I hope you guys can really help us
04:24Megan and Ben have a budget of £400,000 with some wiggle room they want a three-bedroom bungalow
04:32or a four-bedroom house to accommodate a lift and like open plan living plus a separate reception room
04:39style-wise a Georgian or traditional Welsh exterior with a modern interior would be a bonus
04:51this move is about more than enjoying the Welsh countryside and the beaches this is about
04:56family and most importantly giving ever the opportunity to learn Welsh they've been living
05:02in between houses for a year now they must be desperate to find a home
05:12before we kick off the property tours we're catching up in the spectacular surroundings of
05:18Carmarthen Bay
05:22Ben and Megan welcome home or should I say is it
05:26cry so adref have I got that right close give me give me the voice so adre adre welcome back
05:33this
05:34is where you both grew up isn't it in Wales yes it is what's it like being back here thinking
05:39about
05:40settling down it's been really nice and been really nice to be close to family as well and to hear
05:46more
05:47people speaking the Welsh language or trying and forever it's important that she learns to speak Welsh
05:54yeah we kind of want our daughter to have that tradition and have it passed on and in this area
06:00there's Welsh schools aplenty so we can get settled in the area she can make friends in nursery and then
06:04hopefully go to school with those that same cohort it's been a little while that you've been mid transition
06:09haven't you yeah so the last year we've been living three weeks with my parents and then three weeks with
06:15Ben's parents which has been great with childcare but it's a bit unsettling between moving between houses and
06:20having belongings actually divided over three houses so this move is at a point of urgency now i should
06:27imagine so all we need to do is find you the right home that can suit all of your needs
06:32and bring this
06:32family all together yeah shall we get going yes this way for the first house we're staying at the coast
06:43heading for the seaside town of clanethley carnethley beach is part of a 10 mile long millennium coastal
06:50park that offers wheelchair suitable paths as well as cycling water sports and dog friendly access year
06:58round there's a bistro boasting breathtaking views of the gower and lucha estuary clenethley is one of six
07:08stations in wales becoming step free and serves routes including cardiff swansea and london paddington
07:16not that far from the coastal walkway on a modern development is a house i can't wait to show megan
07:22and ben oh this is so exciting it's a proper house looking house for you is this an area you
07:29know well it
07:30is actually um my sister used to live on this estate no way other side yes so i know it
07:36very well
07:37it's a nice place to go for dog walks and you've just got a golf course around the corner as
07:41well
07:41which is really nice to go and walk on so yeah it's a really good good area so this is
07:45the house you
07:45want to show you and i just love the way it looks i like that kind of stone look good
07:50first impression
07:51what do you think ever would think of coming home oh yeah she'd love it this is with my parents
07:55i was having chuffed well let's see if we can continue that chaff feeling inside i think we will
08:04built nine years ago in a georgian style this detached gray brick home on an end plot
08:11has green space owned by the local authority to one side solar panels have been added to the well
08:17insulated home by the current owners giving a very good overall energy performance rating of b
08:24accessible housing in the uk is in short supply and with this property ben and megan will need to
08:31make adjustments from the central entrance our tour begins through the double doors of a living room
08:37spanning the left-hand side of the ground floor
08:42how's this for you spacious enough definitely spacious yes a lovely size it's lovely and homely
08:49and i can imagine us relaxing here in the evening this house has another reception room you've got
08:56like a dining room area that other room could be eva's playroom yes it'd be nice to have our own
09:02space and watch tv and then just close the door for the toy room yeah absolutely just looking at the
09:07garden that looks lovely i can't wait to go and have a little nosy well before you do let me
09:12show you
09:12another view of the garden from another very important room this way
09:18at the back sits the kitchen with more double doors to the outside space
09:24as promised i'd have a glorious view of the garden from this amazing kitchen
09:30yeah what a hosting space isn't it very spacious and there's loads of access space all around it yeah
09:36it looks like i can wheel all the way around and and use the kitchen i do like to cook
09:39yeah and this
09:41seems to be like a decent height that i could i could eat off you know and and prep food
09:45and and
09:45use so yeah it's really versatile this house has got a lot in it and you can see why we've
09:51brought you
09:51here yeah yeah the thing for me is the the lift you know how would we make that work um
09:56but i'm sure
09:56as we look around the rest of the house that'll become evident let me show you upstairs lovely i'll do
10:05completing this level is a downstairs loo then locating the essential lift we'll need to consider
10:12how this ground level layout sits with the position of the upstairs bedrooms starting with
10:18the principal ensuite located at the front above the living room so this is the main bedroom of the
10:25four bedrooms they've got quite a big bed in here what's nice is that i can fit down both sides
10:31of
10:31the bed yeah and also in front of the bed so it's nice that i have a choice here excellent
10:36well there's
10:36also an ensuite here so have a look that's ample space in here isn't it yeah i think you've got
10:45enough
10:45space to turn around in your chair and plenty of space in the shower but yeah it works on most
10:51levels
10:51doesn't it yeah it's great there's a smaller room used as an office that's above the back of the
10:57living room another double with built-in storage sits above the dining room and bedroom four located
11:05over the kitchen is a further double with a rather special edition of a balcony it's gorgeous yeah yeah
11:13what a beautiful view you're looking out onto the gower there you've got a golf course behind you
11:19yeah it's lovely to be able to have an outdoor space upstairs isn't it you know at least you can
11:23be upstairs outside enjoying while you're doing bedtime as well a lovely bonus to a property isn't
11:29it to have this but this balcony obviously this couldn't be ever's room because you wouldn't want
11:33ever coming out onto the balcony but uh obviously there's other bedrooms that we can have a look at
11:37and make a decision so lots of facilities thereby good schools so you've got a dual language school and a
11:44welsh medium school so so if you want to go full welsh or half and half there are options there
11:52we round off upstairs with a family bathroom that has a modern gray finish
11:58outside a tarmac drive leads to a garage with electrics and a boarded loft
12:04the gated rear garden includes a couple of sheds some lawn a paved patio and decking
12:11plus a hot tub that comes with the sale this again is pretty fantastic isn't it
12:17yeah there's plenty of space i think because it's a south facing garden you're going to get a lot of
12:22sun
12:22all day you've got to think about how we could live in the space and i think if you're doing
12:26that then
12:27you clearly like the property but yeah first impressions are really really good but the last
12:32bit of information you need of course is the price what do you think this is on the market for
12:36um i think maybe around 390. okay 390 000 pounds yes i think i'm going to go more than that
12:44i think
12:44i'm going to go 405 405 000 pounds so a little bit over budget over budget this property is on
12:51the market
12:53for 400 000 pounds oh so right bang on the money there it's given you a great baseline hasn't it
13:00yeah i
13:00think the price is right for for the house as well so do you want to spend a bit more
13:05time wandering
13:06around here before i drag you away yes please all right you go off on your own yeah and i
13:11will see
13:11you later i don't think we could get much of a better start could we they love the area they
13:18love
13:18the house they even like the price on budget at 400 000 pounds this georgian style 21st century home
13:26offers a large modern kitchen diner two reception rooms and four bedrooms there are options for a lift
13:34and it's close to wheelchair friendly paths as well as the facilities of a large town oh mag i think
13:41we
13:41found the uh playroom forever yeah i think this would work for all of eva's toys because it would
13:48eat into such a big bedroom having the lift come in here yeah but that office down the corridor that
13:53might be yeah a better solution lounge yeah it's a really nice house i think the space works well
14:01and then there's a lot of options outside as well which again works really well with what we're looking
14:06for this house sings to me and it makes me really feel like it could be a family home
14:11i can see us chatting away there doing eva's homework on the kitchen table
14:29a big reason for my buyers move back to wales is the chance to enjoy some coastal activities
14:37ben's already taken up surfing and today he and megan are at caswell bay on the gower peninsula
14:43to ask friend and local ben clifford about the accessible options he offers
14:49so ben what made you want to start surfability i volunteered at an event for autistic children
14:55and it was just epic it was so good and i asked the boss of the surf i was working
14:59for if we could start
15:00a weekly autism surf group and we did so that was how i got into adapted surfing and i just
15:06really
15:06enjoyed it and wanted to do more and more so like someone get in touch and they say you know
15:10i have
15:10x condition can you help me and then having to learn about what that condition is and then thinking
15:17have i got the equipment have i got the staff have i got an operating procedure for there so it's
15:21that
15:21building and building and building to where kind of at this point now where we can pretty much say
15:27yes to everybody so ben we've learned that you take lots of people down to the water's edge with
15:31various uh impairments are there different equipment that you need and different accessibility measures
15:36that you put in place so yeah we've got all kinds of different adapted equipment eight beach chairs
15:40we've got three hoisted changing rooms seated boards prone boards we've got competition ones that are
15:46really high performance giving people that access to this amazing place that i love and also just
15:52giving people that opportunity to get radical you know like let's push our limits do you have
15:56volunteers that help out as well yeah volunteers are just absolutely vital to us we couldn't do it
16:02without volunteers um some some sessions are our seated surface for example might take four people
16:07to take one person surfing so volunteers make it affordable they provide extra safety really builds
16:14the community around what we do as well and people from all walks of life all ages it's a really
16:21really
16:21fantastic thing one of the things volunteers do to help out is carry boards so if not effortly big but
16:32we've got enough we can surf i'm thinking just like here over here if we just sit and we be
16:37patient and
16:38there's just be a case of we'll try and find the good peaks really perfect so yeah um yeah when
16:44you're
16:44ready mag if you can just pick up the board taken into the water as a top level athlete ben
16:52is already
16:53super fit and used to the water so once at a sufficient depth to float megan holds the board as
17:01he self
17:02transfers out of the adapted chair and he's all set to catch some surf
17:31i wouldn't be surprised if he's soon adding to that medal collection
17:35but now to see if i can hit gold on our house search
17:44for our next option we're heading to the rural outskirts of the town of ammonford
17:50offering shops and services the settlement was originally known as cross inn after an establishment
17:56located on a crossroads coal and tin industry saw expansion and by 1893 the railway stop hair was
18:04named amford to market from other cross inns a couple of miles from the station we're at what
18:11i expect might be a rather familiar spot for my buyers
18:17we're literally around the corner to where your parents live and so where you're currently living
18:23do you recognize the area yes we often go for a stroll with our daughter along the road here so
18:31we've
18:31walked past a few times but not quite inside and you didn't know that this was up for sale no
18:36it is
18:37a nice area it could work potentially yeah i'm intrigued to see what the inside looks like yeah
18:42ready to take a look yeah let's go come on
18:46built in the 1950s the entrance to this brick and rendered bungalow is via a covered addition between the
18:53house and a generous garage taking us via a hall through a cozy snug which then leads into open
19:01plan kitchen dining area and a better look at that garden from here as well yeah i was just looking
19:09at
19:09the roof of the conservatory i think it's a bit dark so we probably do what your parents have done
19:15and
19:15they put the glass roof i'll take that as a good sign then you're thinking about how you might make
19:20this house work better for you yeah yeah it is a bit of a longer kitchen but you can still
19:26see through
19:27to the dining area and the sitting area in the conservatory yeah you wouldn't feel cut off from
19:32the house if you were cooking in this kitchen probably wouldn't be able to have cupboard doors open
19:36but yeah it's definitely accessible across the hall at the front of the bungalow is the separate
19:43reception that could be my buyer's toy free space what i love here is that bay window it
19:49it has got that christmas tree in the bay window kind of appeal isn't it you know you put the
19:54christmas
19:54tree in front of the bay window that's kind of what i see in that in that window i'm with
19:58you there
19:59brilliant right let me show you some of the bedrooms which is along here
20:05the hall runs through the width of the home to reach a family bathroom at the far end
20:09as a free-standing tub with a separate shower next to this is the first of four bedrooms a double
20:17that could be ben and megan's so main bedroom through here a very generous space i think with this
20:24one yeah again the size to go down both sides of the bed and it isn't an ensuite but it
20:29is literally
20:30next door to the family exactly so this house gives you two proper bedrooms and then that third
20:36space there which they currently use as an office and then they have built up into the attic amazing
20:41room which has got a shower in it as well so you've got a little en suite so that could
20:45be
20:46you know teenage room at some point and definitely a guest room yeah yeah for now
20:51so it offers a lot it does having everything on mainly on one level is that something you'd prefer
20:58to have i think if all the bedrooms were on one level i think yes if the children were upstairs
21:03and
21:04we were downstairs that would be a bit difficult with questions over the ensuite loft room that is
21:11currently inaccessible to ben i've sent them to look at the room below that houses the stairs
21:18okay so we've got could use it as a little office yeah or potentially a little crib room yeah block
21:24off the
21:24stairs yeah yeah it's got a lovely view of the garden and that's where we're heading now a third
21:33of an acre plot that includes an outbuilding with electricity and enough space to park your tractor
21:39i think the outdoor space is is a real plus isn't it you know it's a lovely lovely place to
21:44sit
21:44it's really nice we go and feed the horse around the corner most evenings with ever at the moment so
21:49that's one of our nightly activities so yeah it is a lovely place to to live i'm just still not
21:53so
21:53sure that the house itself is enough yet it doesn't have to be you move in and it's all perfect
21:59it
21:59could be we make it perfect yeah and is it worth making it perfect how much do you think this
22:05house
22:05is on the market for i'm gonna go in with a 355 000 pounds 355 000 pounds okay um 365
22:15365 000 pounds
22:19okay it's on at 375 000 pounds so thinking about changes you know there's possibility the scope yeah
22:29below budget this 1950s bungalow offers a galley kitchen which is semi-open to conservatory living
22:37and dining there are four bedrooms in total a large garden and the location means they could be
22:43neighbors with megan's parents so very handy for babysitting i like that the property has
22:50some open plan living around the kitchen and the conservatory and we're used to living in a bungalow so
22:57we do like being able to kind of go from the living room into the bedroom without having to go
23:01upstairs or in a lift for yourself well literally a one minute walk away from the in-laws so it'll
23:06be
23:07childcare will be really easy i'm still not sold on the internals of the house i think it doesn't quite
23:12work for me i don't want to move into a house where i'd kind of be a prisoner to certain
23:16areas of
23:17the property and i wouldn't be able to go upstairs for example and that for me is a is a
23:22big mess
23:25that's it second house done yes shall we um go and see if my mother put the kettle on that
23:31would be
23:31lovely after you okay
23:48we're ending the day just moments away visiting megan's mum elaine and dad dorian who've been
23:54looking after two-year-old ever during our house hunt i mean this is such a lovely welcome this is
24:01what
24:01this is all about isn't it family time i've got welsh cakes homemade so delightful and spending so
24:08much time here back in the home you grew up in what's that been like it has been nice helping
24:14with kind of washing and not needing to tidy the house um and then being able to have more time
24:19quality time with ever then because day-to-day jobs have been done by my parents i think as well
24:26not many grandkids get that opportunity to live with their grandparents you know it's amazing to
24:31see their relationship develop and she gets excited going between the houses the hardest part is trying
24:37to keep a routine and dissimilar situations how will it be for you to have your daughter your
24:46son-in-law and your granddaughter no longer living in your house anymore great to have them
24:52but it's been strange having coming from just the two of us in the house to an extra two others
24:58and ever and a lot of coming and going yeah but um we're managing great we get on well we
25:05get on so
25:06well that we're even going on holiday next Saturday for two cars for two weeks so i think they haven't
25:12got fed up because they might be buying the house around the town we've had a good start today haven't
25:19we yes we have i think we've given you lots to think about yeah yeah yeah but i genuinely feel
25:24we're a bit closer to this becoming your reality yes can you do thumbs up yeah
25:49who it is
25:50average sold price of detached houses in wales currently sits at around 327 000 pounds
25:57in carmarthenshire that figure falls to around 286 000 pounds
26:05to give yourself an even greater chance of finding a home in south wales
26:09it's also worth considering neighboring areas of pembrokeshire to the west and swansea or the gower to
26:16the east so if somebody was to move into the area and they weren't really versed on the area then
26:22i would most certainly say bishopson is a really lovely area purely because you get a community feel
26:27you're also within walking distance of the coast but if you wanted to go more west down the carmarthen area
26:32you could definitely look at areas like machynis property prices are slightly cheaper down that area
26:37and then the further you go west you'll end up going down to pembrokeshire temby and if you wanted something
26:43more
26:43coastal but slightly quieter then you can move on the outskirts of temby
26:51if you're tempted by what you've seen so far here's a pick from more properties close to where
26:56my buyers are looking this period two bedroom end of terrace is in a pretty village location north
27:03of swansea it comes with extensive gardens and views on the market for 150 000 pounds
27:13this detached four bedroom three bathroom option has modern interiors and feature windows
27:20the location on the southern bank of the loch are estuary provides panoramic vistas for sale it offers
27:27in the region of 625 000 pounds for a short self-catered stay in carmarthenshire this cozy converted coach
27:37house with a garden sleeps up to five and costs from 570 pounds for a one week stay for two
27:44additional
27:45guests cost 10 pounds per person per night and part weeks are also available
27:57for megan and ben this move is all about a homecoming and recreating their childhood memories
28:02for their own little family but they also live incredibly busy lives and barely get to see each
28:08other so today it's all about ease something they can move straight into and not have to worry about a
28:14thing
28:21a little over a mile from the town of kid welly which sits on the gwendraeth estuary above carmarthen bay
28:30this location is out of my buyers comfort zone being the most westerly i've taken them so far
28:37the castle established by invading normans and fortified by the english king edward i
28:43first now proudly flies the welsh flag trains run from kid welly to major locations including cardiff
28:51swansea and manchester with step free access to the platforms the coastal habitats here are a haven
29:00for wildlife so whilst i leave megan and ben to check out the nature watching opportunities
29:06i've nipped ahead to give you a sneak peek at my mystery house what better than a really sustainable
29:14property one that's got an a grade epc rating yes we've gone contemporary for the final offering
29:23with a two-year-old fuel-efficient option that i'm hoping will tempt megan and ben into this expanded
29:30search area the thing i love about a modern house is that you get all of this look open plant
29:37living
29:37so much space a real flow of energy and i think this could be perfect for a growing family
29:46now to see if my buyers agree hello hello welcome to our mystery house so i'm hoping that we've brought
29:55you somewhere a bit further out than you've been looking yeah it is yeah we're not not too familiar
29:59with the area and to a practically brand spanking new house definitely very aesthetically pleasing
30:06definitely got a curb appeal and again another property with a balcony which is unusual a few young
30:12families here they say that the young children can play out here and it's pretty safe coming home
30:17somewhere that's peaceful quiet and easy yeah yeah yeah let me take you inside
30:25built in 2023 with solar panels and an air source heat pump this detached home with an integrated garage
30:33is one of around 25 on this recent development a small entrance hall leads into the l-shaped open plan
30:41kitchen dining and living room so you've got this lovely space it goes all the way around there which
30:48means a nice flow if you want to live like that with the family yeah i really like the open
30:54plan it's
30:55kind of because the kitchen's tucked away that makes it slightly separate but nice and open as well
31:01someone could be in the kitchen preparing food and you still feel communicate with each other as well
31:07yeah it's that where do you shut away the toys that's kind of why i'm looking at the space yeah
31:11like this is like there's nowhere to hide toys really yeah hiding toys is great storage there's
31:16all sorts of things you can do when you've got a larger footprint also got to talk about the lift
31:22and where that might go i am thinking it could go here and the room they would connect to would
31:26be the
31:27main bedroom so that's something again that would use up this space and maybe this would become the play
31:31toy storage area yeah and then move all the kind of family general living a bit further up yeah yeah
31:37should we go look at the kitchen yes please
31:41you can see the expanse of the kitchen there yeah the current owners are put in this island i like
31:47the
31:47island in the first property but in this one it kind of makes it in an inaccessible pass you know
31:52i'm gonna have to only go that way past by the sink and round rather than be able to cut
31:56through there
31:56because where the chairs are and that's important obviously i think i fell in love with that first
32:00property and i think that's why i'm struggling to get part i'm loving how much you love the first
32:04house don't struggle with that that is not a problem also on this floor is the integral garage
32:12which can be reached internally via that utility room giving another potential location for the lift
32:18perhaps above this is a front-facing double bedroom that goes out to the balcony
32:25a smaller room above the utility is in use as a study then above the dining area is a double
32:32room
32:32that could perhaps be forever these are all served by a family bathroom with a neutral finish
32:39and that leaves the final bedroom number four the ensuite principal which also has access to the
32:46balcony and i think family-wise it's really lovely that you can have maybe over over there
32:52a nursery one of the rooms and a guest room yeah and options for where you put the lift i
32:58think
32:58downstairs living room to this room may work with the lift which then opens up the other three bedrooms
33:05then you've got access to the balcony from this room in this house yeah plenty of space to move
33:10around the bed we've got the ensuite in here which is obviously a bit of a bonus have a look
33:15yeah
33:25so yeah probably just a bit smaller but i'm not you know we could probably work something out with
33:29that yeah put a sliding door on the outside maybe so it stood across rather than yeah and these are
33:34the
33:34things to consider aren't they yeah also something to consider is the rear garden where there's a raised
33:42lawn currently reached via steps from the ground level paved patio
33:47it is a bit challenging because you've got the two tiers so adjustments would need to be made the
33:53two levels if you wanted to play with ever kind of some ball sports you'd really struggle to get up
33:58onto the grass area what do you think though of what you've seen i think there's too many compromises
34:04for me to make to want to progress with this property it's a very nice property it's just probably not
34:09the one for me well the other thing to think about of course is how much it would cost to
34:13buy
34:13this property out here how much do you think this property is on the market for i'm not sure what
34:20the market is like in this area so i'm going to have a guess at 370 okay 370 000 pounds
34:29i think the
34:30fact that it's a new bill two years old all the solar panels and everything i think it could be
34:34a bit
34:34more expensive than that so i think 395 okay 395 000 pounds this property is on the market for 399
34:43995 pounds so just short of 400 000. i think it's great for you to see where the market's at
34:50what you can get for your budget and to help you with your decision making this detached modern house
34:57will make a lovely home for somebody it has an energy performance rating of a an open plan kitchen
35:03layout four bedrooms and an integral garage it's in a small family friendly community albeit somewhat
35:11outside my buyer's search area it is a lovely house you know it's got everything you would need
35:17for a four bedroom house it's got a lovely downstairs kitchen opens plan space it's got a big garage and
35:22the
35:23upstairs space is is nice as well so for me it's the it's the location to this house that kind
35:28of
35:28put the brakes on before we even got started very nice just not too sure about the location
35:47we often meet couples who want to change their busy city-based lives
35:51for a more calm serene existence in the country well earlier this year tig peers and their young
35:57children did exactly that six months ago a new job offered tig who works for the nhs the chance of
36:06leaving the city of nottingham to fulfill a dream of raising a family in her welsh homeland along with
36:13her partner peers who's employed by an animal feed company she asked us to find a home for them
36:18five-year-old annika three-year-old roscoe and a third anticipated arrival but before we could
36:26step in they brought this carmarthenshire farmhouse eight miles from the nearest town of narber i can't
36:32wait to get out of the rain and find out just what prompted their move
36:38hello hello nice to see you nice to meet you nice to meet you nice to meet you come on
36:45in thank you
36:48now this is cozy you haven't been here that long have you six or seven months yeah yeah and
36:55we're so we're yet to have a welsh winter everyone keeps saying you're not yet living in the reality
37:00of wales so well you've got the perfect setup to live in the reality of wales i can't wait to
37:04hear more about your story tig and peers are slowly uncovering more about the former dairy farm that's
37:13their new home even on a wet and windy day this is still quite a sight to behold this is
37:20the milking
37:21parlor which we only really properly discovered when we took away a lot of the the ivy and on the
37:26right you've got some of the older buildings here that have got the more traditional welsh stone
37:30there's always a job on a farm property like this isn't there there's always something for someone
37:33to do absolutely or a wiggum when i get a minute oh i love that so what's on the when
37:38i get a minute
37:39list at the moment inbound baby number three yes of course that's the main plan and then look
37:44at maybe redecorating when it's safe to do so absolutely don't need to rush we don't need to
37:49rush you're right so sit down have a cup of tea wait for that baby to turn up yeah
37:56and a cozy cuppa in the farmhouse kitchen is just the tonic right now oh look at this a proper
38:04farmhouse
38:05kitchen this is lovely thank you so i have to know how you ended up here because you were living
38:13the
38:13city life as i understand it in nottingham for a long time 18 years yeah 18 years went up for
38:19uni
38:20met a local lad so nottingham's your home yeah nottingham's where i was born in nottingham and in
38:26the countryside so i had a rural upbringing when we first were together i did declare didn't i babe
38:31that yeah we would end up having family in wales after coming through motherhood i was pretty
38:35determined and how have the children adapted and welcomed this change absolutely loved it we've got our
38:41son into a welsh speaking we call it preschool but it's maithrin and he's loving that they're
38:48always wanting to be outdoors and in terms of activities on our doorstep beach woodland
38:55it's endless you know typical is is five and decides she wants to be a vet but roscoe is determined
39:02he wants to be a farmer that's what he's declared he's three and he said i want to be a
39:05farmer what about
39:06how you failed this property because i know you wanted our help we did want your help with a very
39:11short amount of notice because you were moving and there was threat of me being left with two
39:16children it nearly didn't happen because you'd thought it might be a bit too remote yeah i did i i
39:22ruled it off for being quite rural but i knew tactically to just stay really quiet because i felt that
39:30it was
39:30right but we needed to both obviously be sure and thankfully it went the way that i hoped an amazing
39:37home that you can imagine yourselves being in forever i should imagine i'm not moving again
39:43i can sit and talk to you for the rest of the day but i've also got my eye on
39:47i think it's kind of it's hard to resist it with some barred breath of course you can can't come
39:53to
39:53wells and not have barred breath absolutely a good slab of salty butter there we go oh it looks delicious
40:01tig and piers are proof positive that with the right ingredients you can have your welch cake
40:07and eat it but have we come up with the right recipe for ben and megan's homecoming
40:18well it's been a year for megan and ben of living between parents and searching for their ideal
40:24home so let's find out if we've got them a step closer to finding it hello both
40:33megan and ben it's been so much fun showing you houses in your manner i mean i feel like we've
40:40been
40:40on a bit of a roller coaster journey but where are you both now to be honest you kind of
40:44knocked out
40:45the park with house number one i was blown away and pretty speechless going around that property
40:49thinking this has everything and more i went to bed really happy last night and again this is the
40:55start of the next chapter i haven't been that infused by a house i've seen before you know i kind
41:00of
41:00i loved it you know with a capital l and a capital o and a capital v and a capital
41:04e
41:04to tell me what is it you loved about that property the kind of level access outside and there's a
41:11couple
41:11of options where the lift could go the hot tub that's there already and it's quite private even
41:17tucked away right at the end got a lovely view of the golf course and the coast and it is
41:22pretty much
41:22bang on in the middle duration wise from both parents and from work and close to shops and everything as
41:29well for me it was the ability to leave the house and go for a big walk so that was
41:35a huge selling
41:36point the only negative with this house number one is that we can't really do anything to it to make
41:40it our own and meg was like how is that a negative i was like it's not really it's the
41:44only thing i
41:45could come up with so i think that's a really good sign that's a very good sign i think the
41:50next step
41:50is the second viewing and trying to go from there that is so exciting after a year of going between
41:58parents it sounds like this could be the beginning of a chapter where you get a revisit from me
42:05thank you so much do you think thou did i get that right that was perfect yeah nailed it yeah
42:14megan and ben's story is one of hope resilience and dedication now he after all is the world champion
42:21but together they've been dedicated to bringing their family home to wales
42:26so they can give their daughter the childhood that they both enjoyed and i'm so happy that we've
42:32been a part of that journey and help them get a step closer to finding that dream home i'll see
42:37you
42:37next time on escape to the country ben and megan went on to put an offer on the georgian style
42:44house
42:44number one and i'm delighted to announce it was accepted we hope their new home brings them lots of
42:51l o v e in capitals for many years to come if you would like to escape to the country
42:58in wales england
