00:01The Hantavirus hit cruise ship MV Hondius docked in Rotterdam on Monday,
00:06where Dutch authorities are preparing to quarantine the remaining crew and medical staff on board.
00:11Local authorities said quarantine facilities have been arranged for some non-Dutch crew members,
00:16although it remains unclear whether they will complete the full recommended 42-day quarantine period there.
00:22As soon as the Hondius heard that there was this Hantavirus
00:26was the cause of the death of the first patient.
00:31Then they took measures and everybody had to be quarantined and had to take precautionary measures.
00:36So they had all their personal protective equipment.
00:41So the starting date for the quarantine was the 6th of May already on board
00:45and they have to be in quarantine for six weeks.
00:48So when they arrive in Rotterdam this morning,
00:51then they have to be in quarantine in our quarantine area in Rotterdam until the 17th of June.
00:59The Dutch-flagged luxury cruise ship was carrying about 150 passengers and crew from 23 countries
01:05when a cluster of severe respiratory illnesses was first reported to the World Health Organization on May 2nd.
01:12Since the outbreak began, a Dutch couple and a German national have died.
01:16The vessel, operated by ocean-wide expeditions, had earlier been stranded off Cape Verde
01:22after authorities barred passengers from disembarking due to the outbreak.
01:26The WHO and the European Union later requested Spain to coordinate the evacuation in the Canary Islands.
01:33Following the evacuation, the ship sailed to Rotterdam with a skeleton crew and two additional medical staff on board.
01:40Port authorities said the vessel will also undergo a full disinfection process.
