00:00The refining companies told me they had absolutely no plans of increasing the price of petrol
00:04until and unless the price of oil increase flows through to Australia.
00:08In addition, the Treasurer has today written to the Chair of the ACCC
00:12asking her to ensure that the ACCC keeps a close eye on petrol prices
00:17and sees if any gouging is observed that the ACCC takes all appropriate action.
00:24There will be impacts from this crisis on petrol prices,
00:28but we don't want to see anybody profiteering unnecessarily or unjustifiably from this very difficult circumstance.
00:36I have great confidence that the refineries won't be doing that
00:39and the ACCC will be looking closely at the entire supply chain
00:43to ensure that the only increases in petrol prices are those that are clearly caused
00:48by the pressure on oil prices internationally, which will happen.
00:53We're already seeing early signs of that and it will continue to happen.
00:57But what we can do as a government is work with the industry
00:59and ensure we are as well prepared for this crisis as we can be.
