00:00Trump has warned Taiwan against independence moves after the Xi summit.
00:05What do you make of this?
00:08That, Leanne, is certainly raising eyebrows here in Washington, D.C.
00:13I think there is a huge question mark, given President Trump's comments aboard Air Force One,
00:19about exactly where the United States stands when it comes to the defence of its long-term key ally, Taiwan.
00:26Now, there is that multi-billion dollar arms sale package that President Trump himself had put forward for Taiwan.
00:33When he was asked about this aboard Air Force One, he says on Taiwan, first of all, when it came
00:39to Xi,
00:40Trump said, I heard him out, and then he said, I didn't make a comment.
00:45But when he was asked about the arms sale package and that going ahead,
00:49he said, I'll have to make a determination over a fairly short period, and he'll have to speak to Taiwan.
00:56First, that is a change in plan and tone from President Trump.
01:02And so the question back here is, where does the United States stand when it comes to US defence of
01:09Taiwan?
01:10He went further because he was asked that question.
01:12And he said, look, Xi had actually asked him himself directly whether the United States would defend Taiwan if China
01:22attacked.
01:23Now, President Trump said Xi asked him that directly.
01:26And President Trump said, there is only one person and one person who knows that, and that is me.
01:34The Beijing side, De Lian, of course, have set this as a major red line on the summit.
01:39They have said that Taiwan is the most important issue in China-US relations.
01:46And that warning cut through the smiles and the ceremony, and President Trump's answer leaves a lot of ambiguity over
01:54the issue
01:54and a lot of questions here in Washington, D.C.
01:56To be right in the comments, to pick their ladle-dead of a hedge fund.
01:57See you in the right now.
01:57Bye.
01:57Bye.
01:58Bye.
