00:00Xi was sending a message, and the message, you know, is we still want to bring Taiwan under our control.
00:10And the American position remains as it has always been, which is one of strategic ambiguity.
00:18It's not clear whether the U.S. would come to the aid militarily of Taiwan if it's attacked.
00:25Xi would like the U.S., which provides, I think, 98 percent of Taiwan's arms, to stop selling arms to
00:34Taiwan or to reduce its arms sales.
00:37I don't think the U.S. will agree to that at all.
00:40So I think leaving things where they are is probably the best place one can actually leave them.
00:47I mean, we see China practicing.
00:49It's building up a navy.
00:50It has practiced putting a ship cordon all around Taiwan.
00:58It's building islands out to create airports and ports.
01:08It's building a navy that would be designed to push back the American navy if push came to shove.
01:16But at the moment, I think China isn't ready to do that.
01:21And I think, frankly, the American navy isn't ready for it either.
01:25So it's better to leave things just where they are.
