00:00Good morning, 97.1. It is a Friday. We're having a good time. Happy to have you aboard with us.
00:06You got a game six tonight. Season on the brink for the Pistons. We're going to spend some time talking
00:10about it.
00:11Got Lion's schedule release. I'll play the schedule game at 818.
00:15We'll mix in some of your predictions all morning long. What's the record going to be? Some things that jump
00:19out that you like and don't like about the schedule.
00:21I mentioned we had some audio from Cleveland. Yeah. I'm sure they're all very nice people.
00:31Well-thought-out, well-spoken individuals through their tooth.
00:37They have sports radio in Cleveland, and it's an Odyssey station.
00:41They've had us on their stations before. We've got some audio from their morning show.
00:46Ken Carman, Anthony Lima, 92.3 The Fan.
00:50This is what they had to say, not about the Pistons, but about Pistons fans.
01:00.
01:01.
01:04.
02:04I would just like it to be called equal both ways.
02:08If you're going to make it a physical game, then let it be physical both ways.
02:13You want to defend the fact that you have one of the all-time foul baiters in James Harden,
02:20where he takes a shot with no one around him.
02:23And it's like every other jump shot you would see anybody else throughout the history of basketball shoot.
02:29And then when somebody is near him, he jumps, he kicks his legs, he tries to land inside the three
02:38-point line,
02:39he flails, and all of a sudden you get free throws.
02:44No, we just want it called equal.
02:46So stop being morons in the city of Cleveland, which we expect them to be.
02:50That's 100% on par for anybody from the state of Ohio, but especially that city, the mistake on the
02:56lake.
03:00I also don't think we should be bitching about officiating.
03:04And I don't think this show did.
03:05And I think a lot of Pistons fans rightfully put the blame on our own team's inability to close out
03:10game five.
03:12Right.
03:13You know, I mean, I don't think they're saying all that differently than the things we said,
03:17which is we don't want to blame officiating after that game.
03:21No, we blame the Pistons' lack of being able to score a point in the final three minutes.
03:27And I do think if there are fans still hung up blaming officiating,
03:30I'll call them out just like Cleveland called them out.
03:32We need to stop blaming the officials for that game.
03:34No, no, no.
03:34It's not we're not blaming the officials.
03:36We just want it called equally.
03:38And I agree with you on that.
03:39Talking about that one foul, that's not the point.
03:43If you're saying, hey, play on, that's incidental, that's guys bumping into each other,
03:47then why is James Harden at the free throw line again?
03:49Right.
03:49Why?
03:51No, let's call no fouls.
03:52Because he's a flopper.
03:53Let's call zero fouls tonight and see how it goes.
03:55I would sign up right now.
03:57No fouls allowed.
03:58How's the game?
03:59I would think that would benefit the Pistons.
04:01100%.
04:01So, I don't...
04:05I mean, they've had tears coming out since game one.
04:07Right.
04:08Yeah, they were the first people to point fingers at officiating.
04:12Cleveland coaches and star players were the first people, as soon as the series wasn't
04:16going their way from a referee standpoint, to publicly whine, complain, and posture.
04:21So, it's a little rich.
04:232-4-8-5-3-9-97-97.
04:26Let's get to Darren.
04:27You're on 97.1.
04:29Hey, good morning, guys.
04:30Look, you guys are exactly right.
04:32And the people in Cleveland have a point.
04:34This is not Detroit basketball.
04:36And we shouldn't be complaining.
04:39J.B.
04:40Beckerstaff, since he's gotten here, and I've said it all season long, all he does is complain
04:45to the referees instead of using that energy to curse these players out about their mistakes.
04:52And I'm going to say one more thing before I leave.
04:54With Trajan Langdon, don't you guys ever forget, and I'm not going to let all of my Pistons fans
05:00ever forget this, about the Ron Holland draft pick over Donovan Clinglin.
05:05Don't ever forget that, all right?
05:07Don't ever forget that.
05:08All right, you guys have a great day.
05:09He's not some superstar.
05:10I think he's made this call a couple times recently.
05:12He's not some superstar.
05:13Let's not die on that hill.
05:14Let's get to E in Detroit.
05:15E, good morning.
05:17Good morning.
05:18Go Blue.
05:18First and foremost, I don't blame the refs.
05:20The refs did make a messed up call, but it's a 50-50 call.
05:24I blame J.B.
05:25He won the oversat first, though.
05:26He was up nine with three minutes to go, and you didn't have no defense out there.
05:30And your score, the bench players you had out there trying to score, couldn't score.
05:34Highlands should have been playing.
05:37We should have had Tobias out there, but it is what it is.
05:41In overtime, at the beginning of overtime, you came out with the same lineup that didn't
05:45score nothing in the last three minutes and expected them to score.
05:49You should have brought the starters out there.
05:50It is what it is at this point.
05:52Now we've got to go back and win game six, win game seven here on Sunday, and let's go
05:57to Pistons.
05:58The Stones got to get it done.
06:01And as far as my Lions, 14-3.
06:04Whoa.
06:05Let's go.
06:06There you go.
06:0714 wins.
06:07Mike, where are your heads at?
06:09He won up to you.
06:10This is a very soft schedule.
06:13We knew it would be a soft schedule.
06:15It's got a soft landing to start.
06:16Plenty of runway for this team with a young offensive line and a young roster.
06:20I compare it very closely to what New England had last year.
06:25They were a 14-3 team.
06:26New England, Chicago, Jacksonville.
06:29All teams that made some noise with last-place schedules.
06:34It's there for Detroit.
06:36Play the scheduled game at 8-18.
06:38His point about the Pistons says, got to win tonight, get to game seven.
06:43We said this with the Orlando series.
06:45If they win game six, we really like their chances to win game seven.
06:48You just got to get there.
06:50And in Orlando, we saw historic poor shooting from the Magic.
06:56I have a hard time believing we're getting that again.
07:00Yeah.
07:00I mean, it's one of the things that I had talked about.
07:04was you can't count on a friendly whistle.
07:07Obviously, you still can't count on that friendly whistle.
07:10You're not going to get it in Cleveland.
07:12But you also can't count on another team's ultimate demise and collapse
07:17and them creating that themselves.
07:20That's what happened in Orlando in game six.
07:23It was, yeah, you forced a lot of those misses.
07:28But you can't expect the team to lose or to miss 27 of their final 28 shots.
07:33It's just not going to happen in the NBA.
07:35No, and they have better shot making.
07:36They do.
07:37It happened once.
07:38Right.
07:39Especially at home where there are others.
07:41And this is true of most NBA teams.
07:42The others tend to shoot well.
07:44The bench guys, the role players at home.
07:46Yeah.
07:47Text.
07:47Ew.
07:48That was Cleveland Sports Radio.
07:49I guess we don't have it so bad with cookies.
07:53We 100% took accountability for our loss.
07:56We're annoyed because the differential on fouls and because they're nothing but floppers.
08:02The foul calls didn't make the Pistons blow the lead and the refs didn't make Uncle T miss those shots.
08:06Yeah, I feel like there's been enough accountability from a pretty good portion of the Pistons fan base.
08:12It's just weak Cleveland.
08:15Why does that Cleveland DJ sound like cookies?
08:17Cleveland Costa.
08:20Nobody claimed that the Cavs are too physical for us.
08:23We called them floppers.
08:25No.
08:26The reaction you just played is pretty much what Mike Valenny also said.
08:30And both are making a solid point.
08:33Well, hold on.
08:34Let's break this down.
08:35The point that the tough Pistons shouldn't blame the officials, I agree with.
08:41The point that the Pistons and Pistons fans are wallflowers, I disagree with.
08:45Right, and the fact that it's the disparity in fouls called and free throws shot.
08:53It's not about one foul.
08:56Now, was that an impactful foul?
08:58Yes.
08:58Of course.
08:59Or non-foul.
09:00But we always said, and I've said, you can't put the game in the hands of the officials.
09:10Don't make it a one possession game.
09:13There are games where it's going to come down to that because you have two great battles going on.
09:18This didn't need to be that.
09:20All you had to do was score once in the final three minutes, and you couldn't find a way to
09:25do it.
09:25And I do put a lot of that on JB, where, hey, you have 24-second shot clock violations.
09:32You're telling me you can't get a shot off?
09:35Yeah.
09:37Again, we were pretty clear yesterday in our presentation, which was, hey, man, these calls are ridiculous.
09:44But the lead story is the Pistons not finishing the job themselves.
09:49It's their own damn fault.
09:51You and me led that charge yesterday, and I felt like there was at least a portion of the Pistons
09:56fan base willing to take accountability.
09:58There will always be whiners.
09:59But for Cleveland Radio to take the whiners and make that the entire representation of the fan base and invoke
10:06the bad boys and the going-to-work Pistons?
10:08Here's the issue I have with JB in the final three minutes, and I'll compare it to football, right?
10:12If it's third and one, and you've got to have a first down, fourth and goal, and you've got to
10:16score,
10:17what is the play that you call that gives you the best chance at making that a successful play?
10:26In three minutes, is this such a one-on-one game where you have no play?
10:32Not that you get an easy basket, but you just get a good look at the basket.
10:37It's not like it's a foreign concept that people would be doubling or trapping Cade Cunningham late in a basketball
10:42game.
10:43What's your counter?
10:44For the counter punch to be, I don't know, Karis, dribble into no man's land and throw up an air
10:48ball.
10:49That's what the Pistons did on their final possession.
10:51Karis LeVert, dribble into the free throw line and shoot an air ball.
10:53That's the best you can come up with?
10:54Beg for a foul.
10:56It's got to be better than that.
10:59Let's get to Lynn.
11:00You're on 97.1.
11:03Good morning.
11:04You know, we had to endure the bad play, all of that, but we had a row of Cleveland fans,
11:10two rows in front of us.
11:11Toward the end, when they were scoring, they would jump up and imitate Mason.
11:17Detroit, bad skip, and then turn around and laugh at us in point.
11:21The two dentists that sit next to us, the lady was looking at me mad.
11:25The guy next to them stood up and started screaming back.
11:28They were cursing back and forth.
11:30They were really, really ridiculous.
11:33I had half a cup of soda left, and I really wanted him to wear it.
11:37I didn't do it, obviously, but I was just pissed.
11:40I mean, quit mocking us.
11:41We're enduring this crap.
11:43You don't need to continue to be jerks about it.
11:46Hold on, Lynn.
11:47Lynn, some of this is going to a sporting event, right?
11:50Like the other side's going to get under your skin.
11:53Yeah, but they were getting really bad.
11:56I mean, they kept staring at us, turning around, pointing, laughing.
11:59I mean, we were all sick.
12:00We watched them lose the lead.
12:02We were just sitting there like, oh, God.
12:04But they kept getting worse and worse.
12:06I was happy to leave.
12:07But they were bad.
12:09Talk about bad fans.
12:10They were bad.
12:10I don't know.
12:11Lynn, I disagree with you.
12:12I do.
12:13I'm telling you, man, if you're a fan and your team's winning, you get to mock the other side.
12:18Like, that's what sports are.
12:21Now, if they use vulgarity or whatever the language, there's some stuff you can't do as a fan.
12:26But if they stare at you, if you're an invading fan base, man, and I've been part of this with
12:34Michigan going into Penn State, man, you get to clown them.
12:37Yeah.
12:38You get to clown.
12:40Like, the mocking Mason thing, I don't like it as a Pistons fan, but if the shoe's on the other
12:47foot, if your team's winning...
12:49Yeah.
12:49Lynn, get yourself a ticket for tonight.
12:51Wear your Detroit basketball and do the same.
12:55Anyway, we'll get the schedule game.
12:57How I think this plays out.
12:58It's next, 97-1.
