Xi says China and US reached new constructive partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted US President Donald Trump at Zhongnanhai, Beijing's walled leadership compound, on Friday, saying that the two nations had forged a new 'constructive and strategic' relationship.

Zhongnanhai is a lakeside, walled leadership compound next to the Forbidden City where China's top leaders have worked and lived since 1949. The compound, whose name means "middle and southern seas," is synonymous with China's seat of power.

Trump and Xi toured Zhongnanhai Garden together. Xi noted that some of the trees in the compound were hundreds of years old, and that trees over a thousand years old could be found in the surrounding palace grounds.
