00:00The race for governor has been too close to call, almost a lottery, as we head into early
00:05voting.
00:05However, Javier Becerra, the former state attorney general and U.S. Health and Human
00:10Services Secretary under Joe Biden, seems to be breaking away from the rest of the Democratic
00:16pack.
00:16He might actually win the primary outright, according to at least one new poll.
00:21Even if he doesn't win, he could finish second and split the two Republicans who have been
00:26at the top of the polls for most of the year.
00:28That means that you could have a Democrat versus a Republican in the general election.
00:34You might even have both Republicans frozen out if Javier Becerra can bring another Democrat
00:39with him, most likely Tom Steyer, who has been spending a lot of his own money on the race.
00:44In the mayor's race, Karen Bass remains in the poll position at 30 percent in the latest
00:48poll, but Spencer Pratt has made his move.
00:50He's now at 22 percent and Nitya Raman close behind at 19 percent.
00:54Not clear which of those two will qualify for the general election if, and this is probably
01:00likely, they managed to hold Karen Bass below the majority she would need to avoid a November
01:04runoff.
