00:00A bit of a spontaneous video actually, so I've just done an interview on BBC Radio Lancashire
00:05about the stink here up in Fleetwood from Transwaste landfill.
00:12Radio Lancashire, we are live at Strive in Fleetwood, around the back of Fleet Primary School.
00:18On a day where local residents are, I believe there's some kind of protest, but what will be happening later

00:25they've had enough, really, of the smell. For the past two years, all across Fleetwood, people have been waking up
00:31to a horrible smell.

00:43I will wander downstairs and the smell is just pure rotten egg.

00:53I'd say about 3, 4am, maybe 5am, depends what time I wake up in the middle of the night.

01:07It is absolutely disgusting and that's, that's on our staircase and we're in the first floor flat.

01:16Well, I've heard that, I've heard it, from a load of people to this morning, it gets everywhere.
01:21It absolutely just kind of gets inside, gets on your clothes.

01:33My wife, for instance, she's constantly struggled with just mucus on the chest.

01:44Only recently, as the smell has got stronger, it's just something that they don't seem to be stopping.

02:09Now, I don't usually do this, but having spoke to BBC Radio Lancashire live on air, I'm thinking of heading
02:18down to the landfill now.
02:20And basically, I'm going to see what people have to say about this because they want to get their voices
02:24out there.
02:25It's not nice.
02:26It is killing people's chests.

02:29It's sitting there and the stuff they're coughing up is not nice.

03:44It's really, really hurting people's, er, throats, chest and so many reports on the harmful gases that have been released.

11:10they had 800 calls about the smell coming from this place and we've been living like this for
11:16over two years and we have the right to breathe clean air and these guys need to sod up back

11:22Yorkshire and pat that place and get out of here because we are not having another summer with
11:28these people here we've had enough the environment agency says that it's monitoring it it's taking
11:34action what do you make of those efforts so far i have been on this roundabout with the environment
11:38agency about seven or eight times they pull they make them behave they behave for a full night of
11:45three weeks and then their standards start to slip and we get those poisonous smells that are making
11:52the community and they're impeding in our lives we can't see our gardens you can't go out you can't
12:00have your washing out we've had this for over two years we are tired and weary of the reassurances
12:06from the environment agency i have to say in their defense they are understaffed and underfunded
12:13they've had 14 years of cuts they haven't got the staff of the resources they did have i do know
12:18that they brought people into Yorkshire and from down south to help police this one landfill site
12:24this is how bad it is they have to police it how much of taxpayers money these people it is
12:31an absolute disgrace
12:33so just just kind of succinctly what is it you want to have i want it shut we all want

12:39want them to cap it so that smell goes and then we want them out that's what we're demanding as
12:48a community
12:49we have got the right to bring clean air and we have got the right to make sure that our
12:54children
12:54and our poor and the elderly are safe we're not safe for that smell anything else you want to smell

14:52um as i've been stood down there near the landfill i can actually say my throat is starting to hurt
15:01so that's probably from the gases that have been released um it's not good it's not good for all
15:08these people that are having to put up with it um and i did notice that i managed to capture
15:14a wagon actually driving towards protesters and trying to basically just barge them out the way
15:23um that was right as i was talking to lorraine beavers the uh local labor mp
15:31it's not good guys but uh hopefully it's give you an insight into what's actually going on down here
15:37at fleetwood there jameson road landfill it's making people ill and if you can push this video
15:46and i mean push it share it far and wide just so people can get an insight into what's going

16:06here but if that is the warning they're putting out to people then what warnings they're putting out to
