00:00Let's go to Rick here.
00:02Hi, Rick.
00:04Hey, thanks for taking my call, guys.
00:05Sure.
00:06I just wanted to comment.
00:07The other day I was listening and someone, I don't remember what segment it was,
00:11was saying how they couldn't believe all this Greenway hate.
00:14And I guess I never really paid attention,
00:16so I specifically was watching any time he was on the ice.
00:20And I think that is very valid.
00:23Like, it seems like he was super impactful,
00:25but nothing that they would really pay attention to.
00:28It seems like he was always making, like, a play even where the puck wasn't.
00:33So it was, like, pretty neat to watch because I never thought about it before.
00:37And I think he's, like, a really, really good player
00:40that maybe doesn't get the props that he deserves.
00:43And then if you want to comment on that, obviously.
00:46And then do we know, like, what the percentage is of, like,
00:50the other team scoring when he's on the ice?
00:52Because it seems like he stops a lot that they don't really talk about.
00:56I'm sure that could be looked up.
00:58I don't know that number.
01:00I don't also know of any Greenway hate that you're speaking of.
01:03Yeah, I don't know.
01:03But this happens to me.
01:04There's, I mean, yeah, I mean, there's factions of the fan base
01:07that I just don't think I'm in touch with.
01:11Either through years of attrition on social media or what.
01:15I don't know.
01:16So, but, you know, he's – people were mad at him
01:20because he didn't fight Josh Anderson, I think.
01:23Was that game two or three?
01:25One of the games that was crooked, that they, you know,
01:28was pretty much decided.
01:30There was a scrum in front of the net,
01:32and Anderson punched him with a gloved hand a couple times.
01:36And Greenway just sort of looked uninterested.
01:39And I don't know what the reasoning for that would be
01:43other than I'm not fighting you now because the game is over
01:45and I don't care.
01:47But I think fans – it's a little bit of like Owen Power
01:51that goes on with Greenway because he's so big
01:53and he's not maybe as much of an intimidator as you'd like.
01:58But I think he's a very useful player in the role that he's in.
02:03And I do think the caller is sort of on track with – if you watch him,
02:08he's on the right side of plays almost all the time.
02:12He's a very safe player.
02:14And, you know, he's not the most important guy on the team,
02:18but I feel like the penalty kill's been good.
02:21He's right front and center with that along with McLeod and Tuck
02:25and Malenstein, his fourth line mate.
02:28So he's easy to have forgotten about because he was not here most of the year
02:33and I thought maybe he was never coming back.
02:35And then suddenly they found some treatment that worked and he's back.
02:39And I think he's playing the role that he's being counted on for just fine.
02:44In terms of shot attempts versus shots for when he's on the ice,
02:50he's the worst on the team in the playoffs.
02:52So I don't know if I don't have to strain to find the numbers to back this up
02:57like the caller wanted.
02:59But he also does, in his role, play a majority of his shifts
03:05when they start in the Sabres' end.
03:07Like he's not – they don't put him over the boards to take part
03:13when the puck is in the Montreal end.
03:15No, not usually.
03:16They're a defensive start line, yeah.
03:18It's typical with a fourth line.
03:19If you can't count on them defensively, then you've got the wrong fourth line.
03:26Because you're going to want them to be able to play in that role.
03:30So, yeah.
03:32Malenstein's right there with them, you know, playing together.
03:34Naturally, their numbers are going to be real close for shot attempts
03:38for and against.
03:39But they're pretty bad, you know, relatively speaking.
03:42Let's go to Eddie.
03:43Hello.
03:45Hey, thanks, guys.
03:46Appreciate you.
03:47We need you for our emotional – you know, to back us up.
03:52Just get through the day.
03:53We're just trying to get through the day.
03:54Yep.
03:55Exactly.
03:56I thought about this the other day.
03:58I don't remember it being so physically and mentally absorbing.
04:03And I think it's basically because I was 40 last time I had to deal with this.
04:07And 56 is a lot different than 40.
04:10So, I'm going to chalk it up to that because I can barely make it through the work week
04:14these past months.
04:15So, but I like what Mike said about momentum.
04:17And I'm a momentum guy.
04:19So, I think, though, I was listening to another guy strategize about what's coming up.
04:24And basically, Mike's comment about, you know what really works?
04:28Talent.
04:29Talent works.
04:30And I think we saw a little bit of that in game four.
04:34And I'm glad we have a coach that has the guts to make his own decision on these things.
04:39And I love seeing it.
04:41My personal take, and I don't know what yours is, Bulldog, about goaltending, I really think
04:45tonight would be great for a lion because I'd love to see UPL pop back in in the form.
04:52And then in game seven, you just kind of make the choice.
04:55But, you know, I just always want to go with the horses that brought us.
04:58Thanks, guys.
04:59Okay, well, I mean, the horses that we're speaking of here, one gave up nine goals over
05:06a two-game span and put them in a 2-1 series hole.
05:09Not that it was all on him, but, like, if we're looking at the goalies, and the other
05:13one just won in Montreal.
05:14So, it feels pretty obvious to me to go back to the guy that just won on Tuesday.
05:20So, that's what they're going to do.
05:22Yeah, I mean, I think you said it great earlier.
05:25Like, you know, even the conversation.
05:27You can have the conversation, but were they really ever going to do that tonight?
05:31I mean, were they ever really going to do that?
05:33Not even just whether, how you compare the two goaltenders, but it's similar to the Boston
05:39series where your number one goalie, at least in terms of who started the series, faltered.
05:45And you went to the other guy, and that worked out.
05:48And they didn't pull him until he, if you will, faltered.
05:51So, you're kind of just doing the same thing.
05:54And I don't have any impulse at all to try to book starts ahead of tonight.
06:01Like, I'll just see what happens tonight and then ask me what they should do in game six.
06:06It's probably as simple as win or lose.
06:08Well, they could lose a 2-1 game or something and go back to Lukan, and that'd be interesting.
06:11Yeah.
06:12That'd be close.
06:13That would, yeah.
06:13Yeah, they could lose game five of the Boston series was that, and they stayed with Lyon
06:18and didn't, like, knee-jerk to pull them out just because they lost, because it's 2-1 in
06:22overtime.
06:23You know, but now we'll see what comes.
06:29I would like to know how Carrick is, because I wonder if Ruff would have played Hellenius had
06:35Carrick been healthy.
06:37He had the absence, weeks-long absence, he played in game three, and he kind of got run
06:44over, face-offs didn't, none of his attributes really were on display, and then he came right
06:49out.
06:50Maybe it's performance, maybe they rushed him a little bit, maybe none of those things.
06:55I think the nature of his injury begs the question, you know, and you can ask, I don't
07:00know if it's been asked, but I know I asked Paul about it.
07:04But they're never going to tell you, but he had what we, you know, an arm-slash-elbow
07:09injury, that could definitely hamper your ability to be, you can be cleared, you can
07:14do everything you need to do, but are you as strong there as you need to be?
07:17You know, we hear all the time about guys in seasons nursing injuries and even centermen
07:24not taking draws on one side versus the other because of something that they're dealing with
07:30on their hand or their wrist or their arm, I mean, I'm speculating here about Carrick.
07:35He only took eight draws, but he lost six of them, and it's possible that they just recognize
07:41his value is largely that, and if that is hampered, then what are we doing?
07:48So, that's my guess right now, and that, you know, doesn't have to mean his playoffs are over.
07:56We'll see how they like McLeod in that fourth-line role.
08:00I mean, McLeod does do other things for them too, kill penalties, but I wonder if this goes
08:05on long enough and Hellenius ends up, I'm trying, and I don't want to be like the guys
08:13on ESPN, it's just like it's all over the road on this guy's name, just even today.
08:18I just can't play nice.
08:20Yeah.
08:22If he's going to be a staple in the lineup, then your choice might end up being McLeod
08:29or Carrick for fourth-line center, and if Carrick proves over the course of a week or
08:35two here that he can get back in and be counted on on draws, maybe that's a decision.
08:40But until we know that he can do that part, then I think he's probably going to be out.
08:46I wonder if the kid is the who comes out, though.
08:48So that's what I'm saying.
08:50McLeod, to me, would be the, you know, unless he just is so valuable on the other, because
08:57he plays on the power play, too, and Carrick certainly doesn't do any of that.
09:01Not yet.
09:03Pat is next.
09:03Hello, Pat.
09:06Hey, guys.
09:07Hey, this is primarily for the Bulldog.
09:09No offense, Mike.
09:14But, Chris, you were at the game Friday night, and I was the security guy who was giving you
09:19a hard time at the suite.
09:20Well, you should have.
09:21You were right to.
09:22You let me talk.
09:23You let me talk.
09:24Yes.
09:24And my friends were telling me that you were talking about it on the Monday show, and I
09:30was telling them, I'm going to call the Bulldog right before that, like over the weekend,
09:33I said, I'm going to call the Bulldog on, you know, on Monday and give him and bust his
09:38chops a little bit about that.
09:40And it turns out that you ended up bringing it up.
09:42Oh, yeah.
09:43Oh, well, Pat, you should know this about both of us.
09:46We never miss an opportunity to make fun of ourselves.
09:49And, like, I'm the butt of the joke there.
09:52I told that story everywhere I went all weekend because you were so polite.
09:57Like, I mentioned the lady's name.
10:00You're like, oh, sure, of course, just go right in.
10:03And I felt, you didn't catch any heat for letting me in there wrongly, did you?
10:08No, I did.
10:08Okay, good.
10:09I did, but you know what?
10:10You know what's funny is I didn't recognize you.
10:13I mean, I used to see the non-bearded Bulldog, I guess you could say.
10:16Well, that's a long time ago now, Pat.
10:18We've got to see each other more often.
10:20Yeah.
10:20We've got to do it.
10:21Well, I know how to make that happen.
10:23Right.
10:24Continue to walk into the wrong room.
10:26Right.
10:28You could run into the sky any time you're in there.
10:29I barged into the wrong suite on Friday night, and Pat was very, very nice to let me in,
10:38but we both made a mistake.
10:40Really, I made the mistake.
10:41I talked my way in.
10:43You know.
10:45I thought I was in the right place, but I wasn't, so.
10:48Yeah, right.
10:48You were not trying to do anything sinister.
10:50No, I wasn't trying to pull a fast one.
10:51I just, I misunderstood my instructions, and I, you know, ended up in the wrong spot.
10:57I'm in a new area tonight, and maybe I'll see if this can't happen to me.
11:00Good.
11:01All right.
11:01I look forward to it.
11:02Go to the wrong seats.
11:03Right.
11:05I don't know.
11:06Live a little, right?
11:07Right.
11:08Greg Wyshynski coming up.
11:10The NFL schedule.
11:11The NFL schedule.
11:11The NFL schedule.
11:11The NFL schedule.
11:11I don't know.
