00:04Hello and welcome to The Cube, Euronews fact-checking show.
00:07A raft of AI-generated and misleading footage has emerged in recent days, misrepresenting Italy's relationship with Israel.
00:15One video supposedly depicts Prime Minister Georgia Maloney refusing to shake hands with her Israeli counterpart, Benjamin Netanyahu, with captions
00:24suggesting that she ignored him.
00:25They are shown meeting at a UN venue with a Palestinian flag dropped over Maloney's shoulders, but the clip has
00:31clearly been AI-generated and there are no reports of her snobbing Netanyahu.
00:36Another video depicts an angry Maloney throwing papers and shouting before storming out of the room.
00:42But this video has clear inconsistencies, such as Maloney's hands turning grey as she walks away.
00:47It appears to have been curated from a photo of Maloney attending an AI summit in the UK in 2023
00:53when she wore this outfit.
00:56Captions under this video claim that Maloney has ended all agreements with Israel, but this is not true.
01:02In April, Maloney announced that Tully had suspended its defense agreement with Israel, which covered the exchange of military equipment
01:09and technology.
01:10But it's far from the only agreement Italy has with Israel.
01:13Later in April, Italy and Germany actually refused calls to suspend an EU-wide cooperation agreement with Israel, with Italy's
01:20Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani pushing back on making a decision.
01:24Around the same time that fake clips of Maloney circulated, several pro-Palestinian accounts begin sharing a video that allegedly
01:31shows a recent nationwide protest in Italy after Maloney refused to recognize the Palestinian state.
01:37But this footage is old, it actually dates back to September 2025 and shows clashes between protesters and police during
01:44a pro-Gaza demonstration in Milan, amid wider protests across the country over Italy's stance on the war in Gaza.
