Iran's foreign minister urged BRICS nations on Thursday (May 14) to condemn what he called violations of international law by the United States and Israel, including “their illegal aggression against Iran."

Abbas Araqchi's remarks at a two-day meeting in New Delhi underscore divisions within the expanded BRICS bloc, as the U.S.-Israeli war in Iran casts a shadow over the gathering of foreign ministers.

The group now includes regional rivals Iran and the United Arab Emirates, complicating efforts to forge a unified position on the conflict.

00:00Bismillah ar-Rahman ar-Rahim.
00:02Your Excellency, Dr. Jayshankar, Honorable Minister of External Affairs of India.
00:07While ready to fight with everything we have in defense of our freedom and our soil,
00:11we are equally ready to pursue and defend diplomacy.
00:16As I have repeatedly stated, there is no such thing as a military solution to anything related to Iran.
00:23We Iranians never bow to any pressure or threat,
00:26but we reciprocate the language of respect.
00:30As much as our powerful armed forces remain ready to exact devastating retribution on foreign aggressors,
00:37my people are peace-loving and do not seek war.
00:40We are not aggressors in this sordid situation, but aggrieved.
00:45These crimes and the Western silence they are met with can only take place if there is a sense of
00:51impunity.
00:53That false sense of entitlement must be shattered by all of us.
00:57Iran, therefore, calls up in BRICS member states and all responsible members of the international community
01:04to explicitly condemn violations of international law by the United States and Israel,
01:10including their illegal aggression against Iran, a member of BRICS.
01:14to prevent the politicization of international institutions and take concrete action to halt warmongering
01:21and to bring an end to the impunity of those who violate the UN Charter.
01:26Those who pursue reckless adventures may believe it furthers their geopolitical interests.
01:31But as consumers and governments around the world now sense and understand,
01:37regional instability is a lose-lose proposition for all sides, including the aggressors.
01:44To virtually everyone in this room, our resistance against U.S. bullying is not an unfamiliar battle.
01:50So many of us encounter slight variations of the same repugnant coercion.
01:56It is high time for us to jointly step up and work towards making clear
02:00that those practices belong in the dustbin of history.
02:04Today, our nations are closer to one another than ever before,
02:08and we cannot ignore the common and dangerous challenge we all face.
02:13History has shown that empires in decline will stop at nothing to arrest their inevitable fates.
02:19A wounded animal will desperately clow and roar on its way down.
02:27This is important for us to participate in goal.
