00:00Hey everybody this is Sears with the New York Post. I just spoke with Matthew
00:04Schaefer at the Cohen Children's Medical Center after he won the Calder
00:11Trophy as the NHL's best rookie this season and opened up a support room for
00:18children affected by cancer or children whose parents are affected by cancer here
00:23in New Hyde Park a sort of fitting way to honor his season and the impact he's
00:31made on the community really to sort of pair those two things and you know
00:36seeing him for the first time since since breakup day you know he talked a
00:42lot about just what it means to be involved in the community talked a
00:47little bit about his summer he's planning to head back to Ontario tomorrow but
00:51it's clear that that this first year on Long Island has meant a lot to him you
00:56know something he said to me and and that he's I think said in other places too
01:00is is that he never wants to leave here he I think sees himself as an Islander
01:07for the long term and that's obviously great news for for the franchise I mean
01:12the kid is 18 years old and anybody who's watched this team knows the the
01:18impact that he had this year you know one to call the trophy unanimous labor I think
01:24everybody kind of kind of expected he's only the second person to do that history
01:29and that's really a testament to to the incredible season that he had and
01:33something he'll be looking to to build on in the future
