00:00Hello everybody, this is Ethan Sears, New York Post's Islanders reporter out here in Anaheim.
00:05We're about 48 hours on the dot away from the NHL trade deadline,
00:09and here's just a quick look at what we're tracking here with the Islanders as they head toward Friday.
00:16A few names had been sort of publicly connected to the Islanders in the last day or two.
00:21That's Connor Garland from Vancouver, that's Jordan Kyrou from St. Louis,
00:26that's Robert Thomas also from St. Louis,
00:28and, you know, what's interesting to me, all three of these guys have term,
00:31all three of these guys, with maybe the exception of Garland,
00:36or, yes, with the exception of Garland, would just kind of require a fairly big price as far as what
00:43the return would be.
00:44So the question to me is, is Matthew Darsh going to be willing to part, you know,
00:49not only with a first-round pick, but, you know, maybe with a high-end prospect,
00:52with a Victor Eklund or a Kishon Aitchison?
00:55And, you know, that's sort of the guys that you need to start thinking about
01:00when you are throwing a name like Jordan Kyrou out there.
01:06And what's interesting, right, with the Islanders,
01:09they're on this sort of two-track approach that I've written about a lot,
01:13where the goal is to make the playoffs this year,
01:15they've obviously performed very well this year,
01:17but they also need to consider the long-term, right?
01:21Matthew Schaefer is only 18.
01:23They've got these prospects.
01:24They want to be a competitive team for a very, very long time.
01:27So how do you sort of balance that going into the trade deadline?
01:31What do you think is worth it?
01:32And, you know, I wouldn't really be surprised either way here.
01:36I wouldn't be surprised if other teams kind of just are able to beat their offers for those guys.
01:40And if that's the case, then does DARS sort of look at the rental market,
01:46which isn't super inspiring this year.
01:49And if you're looking at that, you're probably looking at guys who are further down the lineup,
01:53who are not sort of substantially changing the equation for this team
01:59the way some of those guys I mentioned earlier might.
02:02So that's sort of where things stand right now,
02:05and hopefully nothing changes by the time this video posts.
02:08But things can move fast here.
