00:21I'm Todd Pappy, Game Director at God of War Ascension.
00:24What you're about to see is a making-up video that we've been shooting over two plus years.
00:28It gives you a good idea of the inception of an idea all the way through to the final product.
00:33Keep in mind that this is a work in progress. Enjoy.
00:39We've got a press announce coming up.
00:42It's all about spectacle.
00:43There's going to be plenty of smoke and mirrors.
00:45Just making sure that what the press is seeing is exactly what we want them to see.
00:51We've got something unique on our hands.
00:53Nobody else has our combat system, yet alone the ability to do scale.
00:57The press announces basically are sticking the ground and saying,
01:01Look, this is what this game is going to look like.
01:02The big reveal is like, hey, this is what Sony Santa Monica is working on.
01:06We're doing something a little bit different.
01:08Normally we do single player.
01:10We're going to actually wind up teasing the players by actually showing a multiplayer instead.
01:13It will be very scripted in this stage because the press will be watching one main screen.
01:18We'll all be live players actually demoing the game.
01:21Choreographing eight players is going to be a pain in the .
01:25Everybody ready?
01:26All right, they're going.
01:28Making sure that everybody's in their spot when they need to be and it doesn't look silly.
01:32There'll be tons and tons of rehearsals.
01:34Orbs are getting reset, man.
01:36Everybody's split up.
01:37It's not like everybody's stuck in the same spot.
01:38The actual art is really for a lot.
01:41Hey, Jess.

01:43We've got to get shadows underneath the ropes.
01:55As soon as we announce the title, people are going to be expecting something big.
01:58I think with this, though, I was just so harried to give them something.
02:02I didn't worry about it so much.
02:04So now I'm worrying about it in the aftermath.
02:06You know, he's done.
02:07He's in the game.
02:08And I'm like, ah.
02:09As one of the artists, you know, I always want the press or the public to go, wow, those
02:15graphics are awesome.
02:16We've got a Titan in a level with eight players.
02:20And hopefully people are looking at this going, this is awesome.
02:25They took God of War and they translated it to multiplayer.
02:27And this is their idea for what they're going to do in multiplayer.
02:29And I hope they see that and go, you know what?
02:31They didn't just stop.
02:33We pushed the envelope.
02:35That's first impression.
02:36It's like dating.
02:37You know, it's just like, how many times have you gotten a second date after a bad first
02:41impression?
02:42You know that.
02:43That's the rule.
02:44How about your progress?
02:45Are you ready to talk to the press?
02:50No.
02:51I want to go through one more media training.
02:54I want to get a little bit more comfortable with it.
02:57But it's usually once I get my spiel down, then I'm a lot more comfortable.
03:12Right now I'm nervous.
03:16We're at the lot in Hollywood doing our press events.
03:19I've been up since three.
03:21I'm tired.
03:22We're going to show off multiplayer today to the press and hopefully everything goes well
03:26and they enjoy it.
03:29I think it's harder when a game is running for a long time for it to transform itself.
03:33Whether they can pull it off, I'm interested to see.
03:35Yeah, there's much of us talking about it right now and wondering what we're going to see.
03:38So I think we're all excited to see what's going to go on in there.
03:41Kratos is probably the number one seller of our magazine, so it'll be good to have him
03:45back on our cover at some point.
03:47Leveling up and progression, you know, over a long period of time.
03:51Brutal combat.
03:52Brutal kills.
03:52This is definitely new for me.
03:54Like, I'm not used to talking to press.
03:55I'm not a fan of being in front of the camera, but at the same time I'm a fan of
03:59talking to
03:59other fans or trying to explain what's going on.
04:02We're always under evolution, so yeah.

04:11Thanks for coming from all around the world.
04:13A media event like this is really critical.
04:15This is an opportunity for the team to really come together for a big event and show all
04:20the hard work that's being put into the product.
04:22I'm sure we're going to get questions about single player and we're not talking about it
04:24today.
04:25And then with multiplayer, why the are you adding multiplayer to this awesome single
04:30player game?
04:30I think that's why we did this announce and really focused on the multiplayer is so that
04:35that will squash any of those questions because we can say, look, that is why we did it.
04:42So we worked really hard to make sure that this was live.
04:46We weren't going to screw around.
04:48We weren't going to show a video.
04:49There's actually guys playing back there.
04:52They all have a def kit directly at their feet, a little tiny television.
04:55Originally we were going to have eight screens set up in the front and then at some point
05:00we were realizing that that would take people's focus.
05:03They're going to be watching that guy and they're going to be watching that guy.
05:05Really we wanted to have them be able to focus on one thing all at once as one cinematic presentation.
05:11So that's where we ended up having all the guys up in the back.
05:13Todd really wanted to have the multiplayer slowly unfold.
05:17So we start with a half face shot, but he's really in shadow.
05:21And then the guy steps into the light, puts on his helmet and it's clearly not Kratos.
05:27So we start by unfolding, hey, you're playing somebody.
05:30You're not used to playing in this God of War prequel.
05:39And then as you're fighting Cyclops, the second guy jumps in.
05:42Wait a second, it's a co-op game. There's two players.
05:54And then when you go into the main arena, that's when we reveal that there's actually eight guys fighting
06:00because there's already six guys waiting in the arena for you.
06:02That was important to us to be able to let people kind of slowly reveal that there was going to
06:09be more than just one person.
06:25Excellent run through, guys. Excellent run through.
