00:10I'm Kaylee, and this is Sam and Gigi, and when the dodo reached out,
00:15we wanted to share our joy of befriending a crow.
00:22I would go for walks with Sam, and Darling would come find us in the forest.
00:28She would actually land and ride on Sam's back.
00:34She would start screening Sam. If Sam had birds in his tail, she would pick them out.
00:42They had a very caring relationship.
00:48About a year later, we got Gigi. Gigi was just a small kitten.
00:54She would go to the window, and Darling would fly to the window.
00:59And they had this bit of a game that they would play with each other.
01:03The three of them got along amazingly.
01:10She did have other crow friends, but for the most part, she was busy doing her own crow activities.
01:25Every day, she would tap on the bedroom window for us to come outside with her.
01:31But one morning, I woke up, and there was no cat.
01:35I went outside, and there were about 30 crows.
01:38Dive bombing, a bird of prey that was in one of our trees.
01:44I was really hoping that Darling was there with the other crows.
01:49As I was walking around, Darling didn't come down.
01:54I think I knew what had happened before I knew.

02:13I feel when Darling passed away, I realized that I just wanted to live a more in-the-moment life.
02:20I actually quit drinking.
02:23I meditate every morning.
02:26There was something about Darling that just made me want to be a better person,
02:31be grateful for that sunrise and a new day.
02:36Then, two months later, my dad passed away.
02:40And I came to terms with death in a different way than I had thought about it before.
02:48Grief is the love that is left over.
02:51During those few months in between Darling and my dad, I was able to hold on to that grief
02:58and turn it into love.
03:00And it made me a much different person than I was before.
