00:00Will Sulos.
00:01All right, gentlemen, you both got your instructions in the dressing sheds.
00:06Obey my instructions at all times.
00:08Protect yourselves at all times.
00:10Touch them up, boys.
00:12So Will Sulos, the referee, with the task of trying to get in between this pair,
00:17the monstrous Nelson Asifas-Solomona,
00:21and the very game, Jared Wallace,
00:24who, when everyone else ran away from this fight,
00:26was running towards it.
00:28The heavyweights are about to go.
00:32And straight out to the center of the ring is big Nelson Asifas-Solomona,
00:38who waits.
00:40And we know the uppercut is his shot.
00:43But Jared Wallace, he's watchful in the early stages of this heavyweight fight.
00:48Hey, Ben, I'm surprised. I thought he was going to come out first.
00:50He's instead measuring on the outside and circled the ring a couple times already.
00:53Well, he said he's going to take Nelson to deep waters,
00:56and that's where he thinks you'll have success.
00:59So patience, the key for Wallace.
01:03Power, always the key for Nelson.
01:07Is he going to try to test the footwork of Solomona?
01:11Jeez, he sent that one in the post, the big right hand to Jared Wallace.
01:17I guess he was trying to reach up towards the big fella and couldn't quite get there.
01:22But Solomona showed him how to throw a right hand.
01:24He threw a little shorter, a little sharper there.
01:27He sent it directly.
01:32Watching is Wallace.
01:34Solomona's got to be careful.
01:35He's got his weight on that front foot.
01:36When you're a tall guy, you're giving up your height like that.
01:39Put your weight on that front foot.
01:41I'm not sure if Wallace is going to be able to take advantage of it.
01:43But nonetheless, even if Wallace starts jabbing there,
01:47Solomona would be susceptible to it.
01:49But instead, Wallace is...
01:50Seems like he's just trying to take his time here.
01:53Yeah, certainly he's very measured.
01:55And no doubt he is very aware of the uppercut and the damage that that can cause.
02:01So he doesn't want to lean himself too far in, being vastly the shorter fighter.
02:09Nelson very patient as well, really.
02:12Here goes Wallace now, but Nelson just hangs on.
02:15I think Nelson still doesn't have the experience to be able to cut off the ring yet.
02:18I think that's something that eventually he's going to learn.
02:20And maybe from this fight, it'll be something he'll realize he has to learn, you know?
02:23I think if Wallace continues to try to use the ring,
02:25it'll be difficult to track him down if you're not cutting it off.
02:28He just walks towards Wallace now, who does evade around to his left.
02:35And Wallace, very patient.
02:38Just happy to stay here and feel safe.
02:41And then he comes in towards...
02:44What you want to do if you're Wallace and you see...
02:47I mean, if you're Soleimani and you see Wallace continuing to go to his left,
02:50I'm going to throw that right hand behind Wallace,
02:52force him to go to his own right.
02:53Because right now Wallace is comfortable moving to his left.
02:55So you throw the right hand...
02:57Here goes Nelson.
02:57A little bit behind him.
02:59Nelson now on the chase.
03:00So he's not cutting off the ring.
03:02He's just running towards Jarrod Wallace now.
03:04They clatter into each other, but he goes...
03:08Does Nelson...
03:09He couldn't quite find Wallace.
03:11Wallace comes towards with the right hand, but not much on that.
03:14And then he lands Jarrod Wallace.
03:17Two big right hands.
03:18And they go down hard.
03:20And there's a cut.
03:21There's a cut too for Nelson, who took two big right hands.
03:25Give me a glass.
03:27Nelson held on around the neck of Wallace and went to the ground,
03:31but it was the two big right hands from Wallace.
03:34Well done to sleep.
03:36Could he have stolen the round there?
03:37Could he have stolen the round with those shots?
03:40He could well have done, and he certainly fuzzed big Nelson.
03:46That's a bit high, though, that cut.
03:47That's on the forehead a little bit.
03:48I wonder if there was a clash of heads or elbows.
03:50There was a clash of everything.
03:52Yeah.
03:53And they came together.
03:54That was a good hook there by Wallace.
03:56Oh, that cupping shot there.
03:58Let's see here.
03:59And this one, that's into the ear.
04:01That's a shot.
04:03That's a headbutt right there.
04:04That's a headbutt right there.
04:05So the heads came together, and that's what's caused that cut.
04:07And then look at Nelson.
04:09He decided to take him to ground.
04:13Once those cuts go a little bit up high on the forehead,
04:15it's typically either an elbow or a headbutt.
04:18It's an elbow there.
04:20Well, George Burgess, he's meant to be the next man in line
04:23for Nelson Asifert-Solomona.
04:26And the moment he's thinking, well, maybe it'll be Jared Wallace.
04:30An interested observer.
04:30Very concerned, George, as well.
04:36And Nelson marches across.
04:39And he will try and exert some authority here
04:43because that was a big moment for Jared Wallace
04:47at the end of round number one.
04:48He said he wanted to take him to deep water as well.
04:50We're only in round one, and he's scored again as Wallace.
04:55Jared Wallace.
04:57Solomona's uncomfortable when he's trying to smother Wallace's work
05:00because he can't get out of the way of the leveraged shots of Wallace.
05:04Wallace has some momentum here.
05:06He's got a pretty good game plan.
05:08Stepping in.
05:09Come on, hand straight.
05:10Right.
05:11Step back.
05:11He's Nelson, but he's bleeding again.
05:14And he is uncomfortable.
05:17And Nelson's got to be careful not to smother his own work key as well.
05:20Sometimes he steps in too hard, he ends up smothering himself.
05:24Gee, this has been impressive from Wallace.
05:26He talked his way into the fight.
05:28He told us what he was going to do.
05:30And, oh, gee, they come together awkwardly again, the two big men.
05:33Right.
05:34And that's the thing.
05:36Solomona's doing Wallace a favor by smothering himself.
05:38At that point, Wallace just has to grab him and force a break.
05:40And on the break, it forces Solomona to have to close the gap all over again,
05:44something that he's been having trouble doing.
05:46Reaching out Wallace.
05:48Now they tangle again.
05:50See, every break forces Solomona to have to close that gap again.
05:54And it seems like when Wallace is moving around,
05:56Solomona has trouble closing that gap.
06:00Come on.
06:01Smothering himself there.
06:03Smothers and clatters into him.
06:05And Wallace finds a shot wherever he can.
06:10Now he just camps here to Jared Wallace.
06:13And he's ready to leap out, but Nelson's measuring and watching.
06:21Uppercut.
06:23Right.
06:23He brings it back out, but Wallace was able to duck away.
06:29Wallace is pretty relaxed, though.
06:30I tell you, he has an idea of what he wants to do.
06:34It's a simple plan, but it's working.
06:35Right.
06:36He's had a lot more success than a lot of people expected him to have.
06:41Jared Wallace.
06:42Let's go.
06:44Very impressive so far as he reaches out with that left hand,
06:48and then he goes with the right hand again.
06:50Jared Wallace pouring shots into Big Nelson.
06:53Yeah, Solomona looking too much for the big punch.
06:55He's got to keep it.
06:56He's got to try to simplify things.
06:58Wallace being a holding target.
06:59Use that jab if you're Solomona.
07:01Snap that out.
07:02You know, force Wallace into bad positions.
07:05He's just following him around so Wallace can move around freely
07:08and comfortably this way.
07:11And he reaches out to Swallis again,
07:14and Nelson is happy to wear that one.
07:18Now he just tangles.
07:19So again, he falls in, smothered himself.
07:22Blood down the face of Big Nelson.
07:26Oh, he tries to find a big right hand,
07:29and then the heads come together again.
07:31Stop.
07:31Come on.
07:32Step back.
07:33Jared Wallace apologizes about that little clash,
07:37but he won't apologize about much else
07:40because he is making Big Nelson very uncomfortable
07:43as he sits down at the halfway mark of this fight.
07:52And this is the Asifa Solomona corner.
07:57Hey, now, keep it long and keep the jab comfy, you know what I mean?
08:01You're loading up too much.
08:02That's why he's getting caught.
08:03Sharpen up the jab, keep it long,
08:05and get the feints from him, everything will come from there.
08:08You walk in, trying to load it, that's why he's touching them.
08:10You know what I'm saying?
08:11You've got to feint, keep it long.
08:14Yeah, you see some of that action from that round.
08:16You see Solomona a little bit hesitant.
08:17He's trying to feint, but he's hesitating too much,
08:19and Wallace recognizes it,
08:21and decides he's going to be the one to initiate the action there.
08:24And it's nothing too pretty.
08:26I mean, he just wings big shots out there,
08:28but once Solomona's out of position,
08:29those big shots become a threat to him.
08:34And Taituanua in the corner of Nelson said,
08:38you're trying too hard to find those big shots.
08:40Work off the jab, let's see the feints again.
08:42So let's see what version of Nelson Asifa Solomona we see here
08:46as he tries to bring his uppercut into play.
08:48And that's the thing, I was talking about that jab as well.
08:51I think Solomona should use that jab
08:52to put Wallace more out of position and keep him occupied.
08:55Otherwise, Wallace can move around too comfortably.
08:58Solomona has to start snapping their jab out,
08:59even if he jabs it to the throat, to the chest.
09:01There's the uppercut,
09:02and there's a right hand off the back of it,
09:04and down goes Jared Wallace.
09:06What did it start with, Ben?
09:07The jab, put him out of position.
09:09Jeez, he'll do well to get up,
09:11because he wore those flush,
09:12and he's been so brave.
09:14You're right.
09:15And he nods, and he is made of something else,
09:18is Jared Wallace, because he's ready to go again.
09:20He can hardly walk towards Nelson,
09:22and Nelson knows it.
09:24Jared Wallace, tough as he might be,
09:26he's in a bad spot.
09:30So Romana should use the jab again.
09:33Wallace just throws everything he can,
09:36and Nelson sends him down, and that's it.
09:39And a brave Jared Wallace.
09:42Well, he had him bloodied, but not beaten,
09:44and it is a stoppage victory
09:46for Nelson Asifa-Solomona.
09:49But gee, he had to go through a storm,
09:52and I don't know whether George Burgess
09:54is impressed or not.
09:56I'll tell you what, though.
09:57Credit to Salomona's corner
09:58for letting him know,
10:00hey, you're trying too hard.
10:01Simplify it a little bit.
10:02If we get a look at the first knockdown,
10:04we're going to see that
10:05he forced Wallace to bend into the uppercut
10:08by using that jab,
10:09starting to snap that jab out.
10:10He was just putting out his left hand
10:12in the early rounds,
10:12wasn't snapping it out.
10:14You start shooting that jab,
10:15you put a guy like Wallace out of position,
10:17and then you can set him up for the follow-up.
10:19That was what worked,
10:20the simple punches,
10:22credit to the corner,
10:23and credit to Salomona for listening.
10:24Yeah, very slick corner work.
10:26Taituanua and the rest of the team,
10:28they told him exactly what they wanted,
10:29and here he did it.
10:30There's that jab.
10:31He ducks into it,
10:32ducks into the uppercut.
10:33You see?
10:33And look at this shot.
10:34And then, of course,
10:35the follow-up.
10:35How did you get out from that?
10:36Tough one, man.
10:37Tough one.
10:38But I'll tell you,
10:38it was very important
10:39because before this round,
10:41he was just shooting those big right hands
10:42or just falling in altogether.
10:44All it took was that one simple jab
10:46to pull Wallace out of position.
10:47Again, this is the follow-up
10:48once he did have Wallace on the ropes.
10:50Once you hurt him with the first one,
10:51now the follow-up easy.
10:52There it is again
10:53with the uppercut
10:53and then the follow-up right hand as well.
10:56Once you put him out of position
10:57for the first one,
10:57you can get him with the follow-ups,
10:59but if you don't put him out of position,
11:00it becomes very difficult
11:01as Wallace found out.
11:02This is the end of the fight here, Ben,
11:05where Wallace is still hurt.
11:06He's still reeling.
11:07He's trying to lean against the rope,
11:08trying to hold himself up.
11:09He cannot get out of the way anymore.
11:11He should probably have been smothering
11:12or holding himself there,
11:14but by the time he's holding,
11:15he's already around.
11:16I saw him on his legs
11:17and he's going down.
11:19Yeah, so very brave he was, Jared Wallace.
11:21Gee, he had some success
11:22in the early stages,
11:23but what do you think
11:24Nelson will have learned from that?
11:26I think what he had learned
11:28between rounds two and three
11:29where the corner reminded him,
11:30hey, man, listen, keep it simple.
11:32Don't get away from those basics.
11:34I know Wallace is a,
11:35I mean, I know Solomon is known
11:36for to be a big guy
11:37with big punching power,
11:38and of course you want to display that,
11:40but sometimes it takes
11:41those little simple punches
11:42to bring out and open up,
11:44create the openings
11:45for the big punches.
11:46And this is a simple fight,
11:47but nonetheless,
11:48a simple fight,
11:49even a simple jab
11:50will create those openings.
11:51He didn't land that jab, Ben,
11:52but what it did was
11:53it forced Wallace
11:54to bend into the uppercut.
11:55So he is a winner,
11:57and he will have learned plenty.
11:59Big Nelson,
11:59as we make it official
12:00with Stephen Payos.
12:02Ladies and gentlemen,
12:03centering here in Wollongong,
12:05time to make this one official.
12:06The end comes at a time,
12:08one minute and three seconds
12:09into round number three.
12:11Your referee,
12:11Will Surlos,
12:13calls a stop to the bout.
12:14We have it officially,
12:15a TKO in favour
12:17of your winner,
12:19big nasty
12:20Nelson Asofa
12:26Solomona.
12:41Nelson,
12:43a nice moment there.
12:44With Jared Wallace,
12:45your opponent,
12:46what was just said
12:46between the pair of you there.
