00:00So Toby just had this in the update, and you knew this was going to be covered on this program.
00:06The show Quarterback on Netflix was remarkable in seasons one and two.
00:10Yes.
00:11Absolutely fantastic.
00:12Season one covered Patrick Mahomes as kind of the star of the event.
00:17Kirk Cousins was the secondary character, and then Marcus Mariota was like the third quarterback in the mix.
00:23The second season of Quarterback was Joe Burrow, Jared Goff, and Kirk Cousins, who's doubled up and done it twice.
00:30There have been a total of five quarterbacks, six covered over two seasons, but it's always been established veteran guys.
00:38We find out today via Ari Myroff, my sports update, that four quarterbacks were covered in last year's season for
00:48this Netflix show,
00:51and one of them is Jaden Daniels.
00:53The series set to premiere July 14th.
00:56So my first thought was, hard knocks, ask where I'm going.
00:59Do I want the cameras around Jaden Daniels in such a critical, got to have an important season?
01:03What do we think that's going to mean for him?
01:05He's got to be, you know, nose in the new playbook.
01:08This is based on last football season.
01:10It's already done.
01:11It's in the can.
01:12It's done.
01:13Great.
01:14Yeah.
01:14Now, the problem is, you're going to see a down Jaden Daniels year, and it would have been more fun
01:20to see the 2024 or hopefully 2026 versions,
01:23but I wonder how much insight we're going to get into the injuries, the recoveries.
01:27I want all of it.
01:28The conversations with coaches about playing or not playing, you know, his mother involved in any of those discussions or
01:35not.
01:35I can't wait to see what we get to see about Jaden Daniels starting quarterback and face of this franchise.
01:42This is what I actually would have chosen, believe it or not, over 2024.
01:45I know that sounds crazy, because 2024, hey, you doing great?
01:49Sure am.
01:49You doing great?
01:50Sure am.
01:50Hey, everybody's happy.
01:51We're up in the same direction.
01:53You know, we're walking on sunshine.
01:54This is kicking ass.
01:56I want those conversations.
01:57Who said what when?
01:59What was on the table?
02:00How many weeks is he out?
02:01What's the best protocol?
02:03What's the best practice?
02:04What are we going to do?
02:04Are we going to bring him back?
02:05Are we going to run him when he does?
02:06How do we combat that?
02:08I want to know what everybody was saying and thinking at the time that led to catastrophic results.
02:13I want to see what we learn and where the missteps were.
02:19I want an end to the mystery for, oh, well, some injuries happened and the season went awry.
02:24No, no, no, no, no, no.
02:25Players you counted on suck, too.
02:26I want all of it.
02:27Every single morsel I can get from the bad.
02:31That's what I want.
02:32The first ride was great.
02:33We can relive it with a documentary if you want to.
02:36We can go to some NFL films and talk about how much fun it was to play in the NFC
02:39title game.
02:40Exactly what I want.
02:41And it was fun.
02:42That's cool.
02:44I want this.
02:45I want the dirt.
02:46So you know what's pretty curious about this, just the way it worked out?
02:49You had four quarterbacks instead of the three, and they still didn't have anybody have a particularly good season, right?
02:54Joe Flacco.
02:55I can't imagine they would have picked him before it started.
02:58That must have been like as he started because he played in multiple teams.
03:01Remember, he got traded to the Bengals.
03:03If they were with him from the beginning, that ends up being sneaky fantastic because he's playing with one team.
03:08Then he gets traded.
03:09He's starting like four days later for another team, went to the Bengals, finished the season.
03:12He's back on the bench behind Joe Burrow.
03:15Baker Mayfield had a regression last year where he took a big step back.
03:18Unlike Daniels, it wasn't like that he wasn't playing or hurt.
03:21It was just that he didn't play at the level he had under two coaches that went on to get
03:24head coaching jobs that called the plays in the two years before that.
03:27And Dave Canales, who's now with the Carolina Panthers, and Liam Cohen, who's now with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
03:32And then the other one's Cam Ward as a rookie.
03:35Why would Cam Ward have signed up to do that as a rookie?
03:38I mean, that is very surprising to me.
03:41And obviously it was not a rookie year that went great.
03:43No.
03:43But at least you're welcoming cameras in to see you struggle last year.
03:47At least there's that, right?
03:48But a rookie Cam Ward, that's going to be incredible television.
03:52Daniels overcoming injuries, getting back on the field, whatever comes with that.
03:56Baker Mayfield, Joe Flacco, it's a pretty strong group of four.
04:00I can't wait for July 14th.
04:03And when's my trailer going to drop?
04:05That's almost as good as the show.
04:06The initial trailer, come on, give me that.
04:09The trailer's pretty sweet.
04:10Just extend me that olive branch.
04:12We could probably get one a week or two, don't you think?
04:17Because it's teased in July 14th.
04:19There'll be a second trailer that drops in June.
04:20We're getting one by the end of May, I think.
04:22I would think so.
04:23Got to.
04:24Yeah.
04:24The league is smart about this.
04:26Schedule, take center stage this week.
04:28They're going to give schedule about a week.
04:30By May 25th, nobody's talking about anything.
04:33Let's unload some trailers on some content.
04:35Hear me out.
04:35Let's show some hard knock stuff, some quarterback stuff.
04:38Let's get the people feeding for June.
04:40During the schedule release, there's your first commercial.
04:44There's your first trailer.
04:45Everybody's watching.
04:46What's the next thing we can watch, NFL?
04:48Because remember they had that coming out where like, instead of the draft, it's like,
04:51we're such and such from such and such on the NFL Network.
04:54And coming up, the schedule release is in May.
04:57See you guys then.
04:58Please give me the pick.
04:58But they did that bit.
05:00Maybe that's the first trailer.
05:02Maybe that's the first time we see a little something.
05:03The other thing I'm thinking, Jaden Daniels is the biggest star of all four of these quarterbacks.
05:07And it's not particularly close.
05:09I know Ward went 1-1, but he's not on that level yet.
05:12Baker Mayfield is a big name and fun and a big personality.
05:14So he's a close second, possibly the Robin, the Daniels Batman.
05:18And Joe Flacco is just a guy that's still around, essentially.
05:20They used to eat his dinners alone until he got the call to come back to the NFL.
05:24That's right.
05:25Jaden Daniels is the star.
05:26Is he going to be the son of the solar system here?
05:29Do we think that the show always revolves around one guy?
05:32I feel like it was Patrick Mahomes in the first season.
05:34It was Joe Burrow in the second season.
05:36Is this the Jaden Daniels series with cameos from Baker and Ward and Flacco?
05:45Or do the injuries to Jaden Daniels, a la Cousins Season 2, just push him into the rear?
05:50So I think this is a Baker Mayfield show, because he's on commercials, he's talking of Timmy, he's shucking and
05:56jiving, he's competitive, all the mic'd up stuff where he's yelling at guys twice his size and getting in their
06:00face and has to be separated and this, that, and the other.
06:03He's kind of made for TV, whereas Daniels kind of has that all shucks funny smile, you know, like laughing
06:09while he's cutting your throat, so to speak.
06:11But to me, I think Mayfield will end up being the guy with the most screen time.
06:14I can't prove that, but it also feels like kind of your point.
06:17It's a lot of like, how many times can you watch Jaden Daniels do leg extensions, you know, in the
06:21training room with a weighted ball or something?
06:23This has to be universally loved by fans, yeah?
06:26I mean, there are always the fans that come out and say they don't want the team participating in hard
06:30knocks or whatever the behind-the-scenes all-access shows are, because they view it to be a distraction or
06:35it's going to take away from the things that matter.
06:38But this is already taped, already in the can.
06:40So at this point, it's last year.
06:42The damage is already done, so to speak.
06:44So all you get to do now is enjoy the content.
06:47Great?
06:48Yes.
06:48Why not?
06:49Yeah, I just, I want to see the kid do everything.
06:51You know what I mean?
06:51Like, that's, I care about that.
06:53Do we think it was as all-access as the first couple of seasons?
06:56I feel like we would have known.
06:59The cameras would have been obvious.
07:00This wouldn't have popped up on us that Jaden Daniels is being followed constantly.
07:04Not one beat reporter mentioned this.
07:06Nobody got wind of this at any point.
07:08I wonder if there's a secrecy thing that you have to sign up on.
07:10Well, I'm sure he's not going to mention it, but I'm saying-
07:12No, I mean, like, the reporters.
07:13I wonder if you have to sign some kind of embargo.
07:15No, I mean, John Kimes not going to mention that he saw a game.
07:17No, absolutely not.
07:19I just wonder, like, why, how did we not know?
07:22That means to me that the cameras aren't obvious.
07:24It's not like Hard Knocks.
07:25Or maybe that's what it was.
07:27Maybe you thought it was Hard Knocks cameras following Jaden Daniels around.
07:29Like, oh, they're getting their content for Hard Knocks.
07:32Is it the same company?
07:33Is it all NFL films?
07:34So they can just use the Hard Knocks stuff that they haven't used yet, and they shoot Jaden
07:38Daniels constantly.
07:39This goes into the quarterback series on Netflix.
07:41This doesn't.
07:42I feel like we've never gotten any previous kind of, like, leaks or kind of hints that
07:47any of the quarterbacks that have previously been on the show have cameras following them
07:51around or anything like that.
07:52So, yeah, I mean, they do a great job of keeping it under wraps.
07:55That's a good point.
07:56We didn't know before who the quarterbacks were until after.
08:00I mean, think about, like, we're in Minnesota, right?
08:01He gets hurt right in front of us.
08:03Literally, probably 25 yards from where you and I are sitting.
08:06Correct.
08:06Did you see any cameras up close on the sideline for the injury when he's on the sideline getting
08:12worked on and grimacing in pain?
08:14So if you remember, as he was talking to, I don't remember which teammate it was next
08:19to him.
08:20I wish I did.
08:21I still have videos of it that I didn't post because I thought it would be bad.
08:24But as he was talking to all of his teammates and stuff, there definitely was those NFL
08:28Films cameras right up in his room.
08:29So you noticed it?
08:30Well, but we talked about it on the show.
08:32It was, we thought we'd see the conversation on Hard Knocks.
08:35And then it was such a letdown that they didn't show anything.
08:38Oh, you're right.
08:38We did talk about that.
08:39Could that show up on this show?
08:41There you go.
08:41Because now that the statute of limitations has gone away.
08:44It's not as interesting anymore to know exactly what that conversation was about his elbow,
08:48but it's better than nothing.
08:50Yes, it is.
08:51I know that most fans are not like us, where this is a holiday, this is amazing, that now
08:56I'm going to binge this entire, like the midnight, 11.59 becomes 12.00 on this July
09:03date when this comes out.
09:04I will have the whole thing watched before I go to bed.
09:06Crazy person, maniac, I understand that.
09:09But I hope people have the proper amount of excitement for this.
09:12We just have never had the guys that are interesting enough for the league to want them to be one
09:16of the headliners.
09:17Yeah.
09:18And now you got one.
09:19No one would have been excited.
09:20They're like, all right, guys, we're going to have Carson Wentz do it.
09:23That's the Joe Flacco version.
09:25You see what I'm saying?
09:26We got to have somebody, so we'll just do that.
09:28This is really exciting, and it's really cool.
09:31To me, I might do a move where I fast forward on my first viewing every non-Jaden Daniels
09:41thing just to get the Daniels stuff.
09:44You just got to get all your Daniels consumption.
09:45I want all the Daniels consumption to then be able to come talk about it.
09:49Then I'll probably just watch it regular.
09:52I might go to that level.
09:53It does ruin the show that way, but if you're just doing Danny the employee, that's your
09:58best bullet.
09:58Because I need every...
10:01I'll never get everything that I want, but I need every decision.
10:06What went into the decision?
10:08If it's just, let's go with guts.
10:09Let's go with our hearts or something.
10:11Instead of being judicious and smart and why, I want to know why the things happen the
10:17way that they happen.
10:18I absolutely need it more than anything in the world.
10:20The same way that I need...
10:21I'm hoping that there'll be some kind of ancillary conversation in the background if I pause it
10:26and enhance the audio like I'm the FBI looking at film of, here's why we're not doing anything
10:31of the trade deadline.
10:32I want every bit of information as to why last year was so terrible.
10:35So you're not going to get anything at the facility, though.
10:38I know.
10:38I mean, this show doesn't ever really show conversations with coaches or anything.
10:42So it sounds like...
10:44I'm texting with someone about the specifics behind the scenes here.
10:47It's basically, he wears a mic during practices and he wears a mic during games.
10:53And they don't shoot anything at the facility, meeting rooms, or anything like that ever.
10:57You do get Dan Quinn.
10:59They'll probably get...
11:00I mean, last year it would have been Cliff, I'm guessing.
11:02Maybe a little David Blau.
11:04I'd like to sit down and talk about him.
11:05And to do some interviews or whatever.
11:07Because you always see that with the...
11:09You know, talking about his competitiveness or if he's coming back from an injury.
11:13But it's very off the field.
11:14Which is actually cool.
11:15Because I think Daniels is kind of a mystery off the field.
11:18I've said this before.
11:20For a guy who is a superstar in a top six media market.
11:24Who's the face of this franchise that is cared about by so many people.
11:28We don't know really anything about Jaden Daniels.
11:30We know that he likes to dribble a basketball when he goes out to practice.
11:33That he wears number five.
11:35You know, that he and his mom have a very close relationship.
11:38And he's constantly hanging out with a girl that we don't know if he's dating or not.
11:41Who plays college basketball.
11:43That's what we know about Jaden Daniels.
11:45So the fact that he signed up for a show that's very much a window into your life off the
11:49field.
11:50Think about it.
11:50Kirk Cousins is reading books to his kids.
11:52And we're seeing him in the basement wrestle with his children.
11:55Like the husband and wife combo come into like, you know, crack his joints and stuff.
11:59You know?
11:59Yeah.
11:59Where's Patrick Mahomes and his baby and his wife?
12:02This is kind of not at all how Jaden Daniels has done it.
12:05That's a good point.
12:05This is a window into his life.
12:07I don't know anything about Jaden Daniels as a dude.
12:09Like, that's what I'm fired up for.
12:11And he's going to give a look into the personal side of his life a little bit.
12:16Again, he's constantly hanging out.
12:18What's the girl's name?
12:18I'm sorry.
12:19I can't remember.
12:19The basketball player that everyone says he dates.
12:22Juju Watkins.
12:23Maybe he does.
12:24Maybe someone said they're related.
12:25Someone said they date.
12:26Nobody knows.
12:26Nobody's commenting on this.
12:28We might find something out about that.
12:30If people are into that.
12:31It's not really something I care about.
12:33Right.
12:33People seem to.
12:34Yeah.
12:34That is way off old Randy Duye's radar.
12:36But you're right.
12:37It is the...
12:37Julie Cousins is being interviewed about Kirk in every episode of quarterback.
12:42It would be weird if there's not an acknowledgement of that element of his life.
12:45Of something.
12:46Yeah.
12:46Brittany Mahomes is the second biggest star of quarterback season one.
12:50You know what I'm saying?
12:50Yes, I do.
12:51They're watching her at the game.
12:53This is not the pain in the ass for the team that Hard Knocks is.
12:56Because it's not really about the facility.
12:58It's about his home.
12:59We just get to see him studying his tape and where he goes to dinner and who he shoots basketball,
13:05plays horse with, or whatever he's doing.
13:06I'm in.
13:07Yeah.
13:08I mean, I couldn't be more in.
13:09It is so good.
13:10The...
13:11I think fans are kind of waking up to the...
13:14And I know you made the point by and large.
13:15It's not the same as Hard Knocks.
13:16And I get that.
13:17Because they're not following around, you know, coaches and GMs and players and, you know,
13:22the scouts and the guys that, you know, are setting up the tackling dummies and the sleds
13:26and whatever.
13:26They're not doing that for quarterback.
13:28But I think people are waking up to the idea that more behind the curtain for your own
13:35team, it's not what it used to be.
13:39You know what I mean?
13:39It's not like a guy with a camera that had to be plugged into the wall that, like, everyone
13:44has to step around or get over.
13:45I got news.
13:46Cameras are on these guys all the time anyway.
13:48You get to the facility and everyone's doing, like, hey, in or out for socials, singing
13:53in the shower, LOL.
13:55Everyone's already doing that crap.
13:56There's cameras everywhere all the time.
13:57They're all producing their in-house stuff because you have to to keep up with the Joneses.
14:00It's already happening.
14:01You may as well get something that isn't as filtered and, like, tidied up for social media.
14:07Are you surprised Daniels did this?
14:11Yes.
14:12I am too.
14:13Not in a negative way, but I did not expect it.
14:16Would you have cared at all last year?
14:18If you found out going into the season that he's going to do quarterback?
14:21No.
14:22And it may be a little bit hypocritical, but I think there is a distinction between hard
14:28knocks, cameras, and obtrusiveness, after I just finished saying it's nowhere near what
14:32it was.
14:33But still, it's more of a, I don't know.
14:36I don't think this one gets in the way of your work.
14:39It's documenting your work.
14:41Right?
14:41Like, yeah, sometimes you've got to spend 30 seconds explaining, here, what I'm doing
14:44right now is I'm looking at tape on this Microsoft service or this iPad.
14:47I like to put it up here and look at it this way.
14:49I like to take my notes on this.
14:50I think they're probably so efficient in how they shoot and put this together that they
14:56call you and go, hey, we need a day.
14:58We're going to hit these three things.
15:01We'll be record for 10 minutes and be out of your hair.
15:03And they turn that into a ton of content.
15:07Yeah.
15:07These are smart people who have done this for a long, long time.
15:10But I'm with you.
15:11I would have had zero problem.
15:13There's always going to be people that complain about everything that would have said, you
15:15know, focus on your playbook or don't do this.
15:18I have kind of long wanted to know a little bit more about Jaden Daniels.
15:23They haven't done a lot of, like the interviews he does.
15:25He's done one million interviews.
15:27Zero of them on this radio station, by the way.
15:28But he's done one million interviews since he's been here.
15:32And most of the time, it's like Super Bowl, Radio Row, whatever it is.
15:37And it's very football.
15:40You know, he's he doesn't give a ton.
15:43Like there have not really been the tell all kind of, you know, someone follows him around
15:48who's a columnist for the athletic or whatever it is, going to the charity event with him
15:53and does this 6,000 word piece on what makes him tick.
15:55Like a couple of little things here and there in his career, dating back to college, where
15:59I've learned about him.
16:00But I just I find him more mysterious than I have other players that you kind of know
16:07a lot about.
16:08Like, I feel like James Wood is a guy who's like Jaden Daniels.
16:12Yeah, doesn't have a huge personality, doesn't have a lot to say.
16:14I feel like I know way more about James Wood.
16:16Now, we've obviously had way more access to James Wood.
16:18Maybe that's why we've interviewed him 15 times for 15 minutes at a time.
16:22We've talked to Jaden Daniels once for 43 seconds on a red carpet.
16:25So maybe that's where my lack of knowing this person comes from.
16:32But I I'm excited.
16:34Yeah, I just think it's cool.
16:35I think it's good for the fan base because I don't I think the more we see of this person,
16:40I think he's such a good person, the better it is for everybody.
16:43And that's what it is that I am a little less concerned about.
16:46Is he dating someone?
16:47Is he not or whatever?
16:48Some people might be into that.
16:49God bless you.
16:50Yeah, to me, it's the only reason I think people care about that.
16:52And I'm speaking for people that I don't relate to.
16:54So I don't know.
16:54She's one of the biggest female basketball celebrities in America, this person.
16:58So it's like Paige Beckers and AZ Fudd and Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese.
17:06And like if you're going to make the rest of the Mount Rushmore, I think it's.
17:11Juju Watkins, who's potentially his girlfriend, so that like biggest football star, one of the biggest basketball stars,
17:18that's kind of interesting to people.
17:19That's all right.
17:21It's like it's a random girl that went to USC.
17:23And God bless.
17:24If it's something you can't wait to get confirmation on one way or the other, I'm all here for it.
17:28But your larger point is the one that I wanted to make and double down on is he's such a
17:32quality dude who's about ball,
17:35and he's here to save us all from the dreary drudgery of previous football seasons,
17:41that the more Jaden Daniels, the better.
17:44There have been guys where you go, you know what, that dose is about right.
17:47And no disrespect to them, but like Robert Griffin,
17:50went on the Tonight Show and he did this, he did that.
17:53And by like after a couple of years, it was like, maybe tone it down a little.
17:56It's a lot of you right now.
17:58It's maybe too much.
18:01We're at a one out of ten or one and a half out of ten on Jaden Daniels' exposure at
18:05this point.
18:05All he's given us is some brilliant football and an injury-plagued season.
18:08He speaks when he has to speak.
18:09Yeah.
18:10And then he speaks when like his marketing team or whoever puts together his list of,
18:13you're doing a hundred things and you're getting paid by this company the week of the Super Bowl, basically.
18:20That's kind of the extent.
18:21And that's so far, yeah.
18:21And they're all national.
18:22And it's been a very low dose.
18:24We could raise the dosage of Jaden Daniels.
18:26Exactly.
18:27No, I mean, by tenfold.
18:29Yeah.
18:30You know, we got a long way to go before we're going.
18:33Before it's, hey.
18:34Why don't you back off a little bit?
18:35Let's hit the brakes just a little bit.
18:37Brian's in Indian Head.
18:38What's up, Brian?
18:38How are you?
18:40Good, guys.
18:41Taking my call.
18:42I think Jaden Daniels is, he's today's athlete.
18:46He encompasses the social media, which I don't get a lot of, you know, getting the likes,
18:51getting the follows, putting out content, and he seems comfortable in it.
18:55And I think D.C. is on the precipice of, I think, of something amazing.
18:59And they're building a team around him.
19:00And, yeah, I think it's pretty cool.
19:02I can't wait to see what happens.
19:04Thank you, buddy.
19:05Thanks, buddy.
19:05I appreciate it.
19:06I don't think Jaden Daniels is active on social media at all.
19:09He does occasionally, I don't know if he still does this, but I know early when he
19:12got drafted, he would do, like, live streams of, like, him talking on the phone to someone
19:16or, like, Brandon Ayuk or whatever or, like, a video game.
19:21And those were very rare, but I remember seeing that, if that counts as social media, like
19:24an Instagram Live, where people would just watch him and send emojis, like, thumbs up
19:29and dollar signs and laughing emojis, and he would, like, be on the phone.
19:33Yeah, that seems about right.
19:35He doesn't really do that much anymore.
19:36He'll occasionally put out some pictures, some photos of, you know, like, him aura
19:41farming at the stadium, but that's about it.
19:43Nothing, nothing.
19:43What's he doing?
19:44Aura farming.
19:45That's a great fit.
19:47Derrick Straubman, aura farming.
19:48Our guy, Nas.
19:50He's an aura farmer.
19:51Is that what you're telling me?
19:52He is.
19:52Is that okay?
19:53Is that bad?
19:53Is that a pejorative?
19:54No, it's a great thing.
19:55Okay.
19:56I've only heard it in a bad context.
19:57I thought you didn't want to be an aura farmer.
20:01I don't know.
20:02Maybe Ben has a better idea of whether it's bad or not.
20:04I feel like aura farming's fine.
20:06Why are you throwing Ben under the bus?
20:07Because he's a young guy.
20:09He's an alpha.
20:10Is aura farming a bad thing?
20:12No, not at all.
20:13I think it can be perceived a little bit negatively in certain contexts, like the OKC Thunder
20:18winning the championship next year, and instead of people pouring out of the court, jumping
20:21up and down, they're all kind of just like sitting there nodding their head like, yep,
20:25yep, we won.
20:26We did it, guys.
20:28That's like a bad form of aura farming, in my opinion.
20:31That's bad.
20:31Yeah, I don't like that.
20:33You should go crazy if you win the NBA championship.
20:35Hop around a little bit.
20:36Have fun.
20:37That's a good time to be jubilant.
20:38Dance like nobody's watching.
20:40I think that's what Stroeber's saying.
20:41That's what aura farming is.
20:42You dance like no one's watching.
20:44Look at his Twitter account, for example.
20:45It's Nissan Heisman partner.
20:48Giving Tuesday last December.
20:50Yeah.
20:50Nissan Heisman partner.
20:52Nissan Heisman partner.
20:53You know, you never guess what this one is.
20:55Nissan Heisman partner.
20:56That's his last like six tweets, like months apart from each other.
20:58I think my guy.
20:59Not terribly active.
21:00He's not a big social media guy.
21:01And I want my quarterback to not be a big social media guy.
21:05Totally fine, yeah.
21:05If you are a big social media guy, at quarterback, that's kind of weird.
21:10C.J. Moore covers college basketball.
21:13We'll talk to him about the draft.
21:14Specifically, he's here.
21:15He was in on Kansas.
21:16I want to talk to him about Darren Peterson's season.
21:18Grant and Dan.
