00:05From 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York, it's Late Night with Seth Meyers, tonight Tiffany
00:13Haddish, musician Josh Groban, an all-new Closer Look, and now Seth Meyers.
00:28Good evening, everybody. I'm Seth Meyers. This is Late Night. We hope you're doing well.
00:32And now, if you don't mind, we're going to get to the news. While hosting the Indiana
00:36Hoosiers football team at the White House yesterday, President Trump called linebacker
00:40Isaiah Jones a good-looking guy and added, quote, I don't like good-looking people. Oh,
00:46buddy, we know. It looks like someone left a bunch of Pez dispensers in a hot car.
00:54In a new interview, President Trump said that he personally wants to go to Fort Knox and look
00:59at the country's gold reserve, I assume, to get some decorating ideas.
01:05White House announced yesterday that President Trump will go to Walter Reed Medical Center
01:08later this month for a medical checkup. Later this month? Dude, you're aging like a countertop
01:14banana. Go now. During an Oval Office event yesterday about maternal health care, Dr. Mehmet
01:23Oz said that one in three Americans are, quote, under-babied, which has to be the absolute weirdest
01:30way to say that. I'll respond so he can understand. Maybe people are under-babied because they're
01:36over-jobbed and under-moneyed, and rather than find themselves over-babied and under-housed,
01:41it's safer to say under-babied and over-catted.
01:46A group of evangelical leaders gathered over the weekend to bless President Trump's gold-leaf
01:50statue at his Doral golf course, but then it moved, and they realized it was just actually
01:55him.
01:58Eric Trump posted a rendering on X yesterday of the Trump Tower Tbilisi, which is the
02:04Trump organization is set to build in the country of Georgia, said Eric, country?
02:09Oh, I'm in trouble.
02:13According to a new analysis of federal contracts, the cost of President Trump's renovation to
02:18the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool is more than seven times greater than the $1.8 million
02:23he has quoted publicly.
02:25Even worse, now it's going to be above ground.
02:33disgraced activist Rachel Dolezal, who posed for years as a black woman despite being born
02:37white, said in a new interview that she's training to become a sex coach.
02:40Well, no better way to confirm that you are indeed very white.
02:48A contestant on The Price is Right recently won the largest prize in a single pricing game
02:53in the show's history, a gallon of gas.
02:58Finally, a 28-year-old woman was arrested recently after she allegedly pretended to be
03:02a 16-year-old student and enrolled at a high school in the Bronx, though I'm pretty sure
03:06that's just the plot of the movie Grease.
03:10And that was a monologue, everybody!
03:14We've got a great show for you tonight.
03:16You know her from Girls Trip, The After Party, and Bad Boys Ride or Die.
03:22Check her out on the cover of this year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, which is
03:26available in print nationwide on May 26th.
03:28The very funny Tiffany Haddish is back on the show!
03:33He is a fantastic singer, songwriter, and actor whose new album, Cinematic, is available
03:38now.
03:38Josh Groban, everybody!
03:41First time on the show for Josh.
03:43Very excited.
03:44But before we get to all that, the president went on an unhinged rant in which he referred
03:50to the White House as a house, then went on a deranged late-night posting spree in which
03:54he demanded the arrest of his political opponents.
03:56But don't worry, he also held a very important meeting in the Oval Office where he unveiled
04:00new measures to bring down prices.
04:02And wait, sorry, I read that wrong.
04:03He dozed off while his health secretary talked about sperm counts in teenagers.
04:09For more on this, it's time for A Closer Look.
04:16I don't know if you guys remember, but during the 2024 campaign, Donald Trump promised to
04:20solve an obscure, little-known problem most voters were unaware of.
04:24Let me see if I'm pronouncing this right.
04:25Is it inflation?
04:28Inflatone?
04:29Oh, no, inflation.
04:31Starting on day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again.
04:36Under my leadership, the United States will commit to the ambitious goal of slashing energy
04:42and electricity prices by half, at least half.
04:47We intend to slash prices by half within 12 months at a maximum 18 months.
04:53Prices will come down.
04:54You just watch.
04:55They'll come down and they'll come down fast.
04:57Starting the day I take the oath of office, I will rapidly drive prices down and we will
05:02make America affordable again.
05:05We're going to make it affordable again.
05:07We're going to get your energy prices down by 50%.
05:11Groceries, cars, how everything.
05:13We're going to get the prices down.
05:15Starting on day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again.
05:19A vote for Trump means your groceries will be cheaper.
05:23We're going down and getting gasoline below $2 a gallon, bring down the price of everything
05:30from electricity rates to groceries, airfares and housing costs.
05:35Not only are airfares more expensive, some airlines don't even exist anymore.
05:40He didn't bring down the prices of airlines, he brought down the number of airlines.
05:46On top of that, gasoline is close to $5 a gallon, not everywhere.
05:50It's still under $2 at Crazy Seth's Discount Gas.
05:53Not to brag, but as soon as Trump invaded Iran, I started hoarding gas in my New York
05:58City apartment.
05:58And sure, it smelled bad and all of our plants died, but now I'm making bank.
06:03I even bought myself a first-class round-trip ticket to Tahiti, or at least I thought it
06:07was first-class, but then halfway through the flight, the airline shut down.
06:11The plane didn't even land, they just made us parachute out into the Pacific Ocean.
06:14Found my way to a deserted island where I thought I befriended a volleyball, but it turns
06:19out it was just Cash Patel.
06:21Now, point is, Trump lied.
06:24He said he'd bring down the prices of energy, gas, airfares, and groceries, and not only
06:28are they not down, they're all up.
06:30Way up.
06:31It's like if George H.W. Bush had said, read my lips, no new taxes, and then not only
06:36raise taxes, but also got new lips.
06:42Someone at home, I don't know who you are, saw that and was like, all right.
06:48Compare Trump's campaign promises with the latest inflation report.
06:53The Labor Department reports this morning that consumer prices increased at a faster
06:57than expected pace last month, rising at the fastest rate since May of 2023, and raising
07:03further concerns about the inflationary impact on the U.S. economy.
07:07This is another inflation setback, and it's being driven in large part by the war.
07:13So consumer prices soaring by 3.8% year over year in April.
07:17That is worse than expected, and that is the highest level in almost three years.
07:22Oh my God, inflation is up to 3.8%, but that can't be.
07:25That's higher than the rate of inflation when Trump took over from Sleepy Joe.
07:30Oh, no, no.
07:35Trump was a bad dude.
07:37Dude, dude, dude.
07:40Next thing you know, Trump's going to start falling asleep on camera, and oh, son of a bitch!
07:45It's also worth noting that as well as promising to bring prices down, he promised that he wouldn't
07:50get in to Middle East wars, which is what is making it harder to bring prices down.
07:54He's breaking one promise by breaking another promise, and as a result, Americans are rightly
07:59furious.
08:00New CNN polling just out gives a fresh look on how Americans feel about the economy overall.
08:06The numbers reveal deep anxiety about affordability and growing warning signs for President Trump.
08:1273% describe economic conditions in this country as poor.
08:18If you take a look here, we ask folks, has Donald Trump's policies affected the local cost
08:23of living for you, 77% in our poll say his policies have increased the cost of living.
08:31And let me just say, that includes a majority of Republicans.
08:3555% of Republicans say Trump policies has increased the cost of living for them.
08:4177% say Trump has made the cost of living worse.
08:44Seriously, 77% is impressive.
08:46It's rare to get that many Americans to agree on anything, let alone politics.
08:49I don't even think we could get 77% of Americans to agree that pineapple on pizza is disgusting.
08:55Which it is.
08:56Here's how disgusting it is.
08:58Even Pizza Rat wouldn't touch it.
09:02Although, in fairness, Pizza Rat is actually very discerning.
09:05He was a guest judge on the new season of Top Chef.
09:10I'm just kidding.
09:11Pizza Rat's dead.
09:13How long?
09:14How long do you think rats live?
09:16That's just science.
09:17Don't groan science, you guys.
09:20If Pizza Rat was still alive, we should all be f***ing terrified.
09:25If we find out that pizza-eating rats live forever, f***ing run for the hills.
09:32He dead.
09:33Good.
09:35Or she.
09:37I don't know why I always assume Pizza Rat was a man.
09:46I can't believe I'm saying that we gotta dig up the body and do an autopsy.
09:50I need to know!
09:54The point is, inflation is soaring and Americans are begging the president, please do something.
09:59President Trump held an event about maternal health at the White House today.
10:03So let me speak a little bit about the reality that one in three Americans are under-babied.
10:07What does under-babied mean?
10:08That means that you either don't have any children or you have less children than you would normally want to
10:13have.
10:13Then why don't you just say that, you f***ing weirdo?
10:18Under-babied?
10:19Just say Americans are having fewer children.
10:24Under-babied sounds like how the Trump sons would describe how their dad raised them.
10:28Uh, I wouldn't say dad babied us.
10:31I'd say he under-babied us.
10:32I remember when I was five, I fell off my bike, and then he took the bike to Disneyland instead
10:36of me
10:37because he only likes hanging out with winners.
10:40Also, if you guys are so concerned that people aren't having children, I have an idea.
10:44Make it more affordable to have children.
10:46Make health care and child care and public college universal free.
10:50Because the cost of raising children is why people are having less children.
10:55It's not because they're afraid Iran is going to have a nuclear bomb or because there are no good ballrooms.
10:59They're worried about how expensive it is.
11:01But this administration doesn't have answers for that.
11:03They just have weird solutions for weird problems using weird words.
11:08In fact, just when you thought it couldn't get any weirder, guess again.
11:11Because RFK Jr., a.k.a. the skin suit for men in black, showed up too.
11:17The fertility crisis for women began in 2007.
11:22For men in 1970, men had twice the sperm count as our teenagers do today.
11:28I'm sorry, now we've got to listen to this guy talk about sperm counts?
11:33the whiz.
11:36The only thing worse...
11:42The only thing worse than knowing old muffler throat is concerned about sperm counts
11:47is also knowing he's going to have a weird solution.
11:49We need to encourage our young men to expose their testicles to red light therapy,
11:55but also remind them not to point the light at their face.
12:00I did that, and it's why my skin is the same color as a gas station hot dog.
12:07By the way, I can't believe I'm fact-checking this bull...
12:10But a study published last year by the Cleveland Clinic found that there's no cause for panic
12:14and that sperm counts have been steady.
12:16And yes, when I googled male sperm on my computer, it did pop a red flag with HR.
12:23Also, while RFK Jr. was talking about sperm counts, Trump seemed to nod off again.
12:27I mean, forget sperm cells.
12:28Has anybody counted his brain cells?
12:30How do you...
12:31How do you fall asleep while RFK Jr. is talking?
12:35That's like replacing your white noise machine with a chainsaw stuck in a garbage disposal.
12:41So most people are struggling to afford...
12:43If it was talking about sperm!
12:46So most people are struggling to afford basic necessities while the president dozes off
12:50and his aides drone on about sperm counts.
12:52But don't worry, Trump woke up and he stumbled over to the Rose Garden
12:55where he complained about the beautiful taxpayer-funded mansion that he gets to live in.
12:59We're gathered here tonight, and it's exciting because
13:03this place was not properly taken care of.
13:06I was told by my wife, you have to act presidential, so don't use foul language.
13:11I won't.
13:11Therefore, normally I would have said it was a shithouse, but I don't want to say that.
13:17Again, you weirdos, no one said shithouse.
13:20It's a shithole.
13:24Stop inventing new word phrases for things, you underbabies.
13:29Also, I'm so sorry your giant free house is such a bummer.
13:31How out of touch can you be?
13:3277% of Americans say the cost of living is getting worse.
13:35This guy's complaining about his 132-room mansion.
13:37He's like a Hollywood diva who doesn't like her trailer.
13:40There's no espresso machine in here.
13:42This place is a house.
13:44And that was only the start of Trump's deranged behavior.
13:47As it got later in the day, he got even crazier.
13:50President Trump declared that the ceasefire with Iran is on life support,
13:53sending oil prices up again ahead of a high-strikes mission to China
13:56and a barrage of inflammatory truth social posts overnight.
14:00We saw some erratic presidential behavior yesterday.
14:02The president used a profanity to describe the White House at an event.
14:06And then he went on that strange social media spree into the morning.
14:10Yeah, this stretched late into the night, into the early morning, George.
14:14The president posting or reposting on social media more than 50 times by our account.
14:19And nearly all of these posts focused on false claims or conspiracy theories.
14:24The president at one point responding to someone calling on the DOJ to make more arrests
14:29just as he re-shared a post with an unfounded conspiracy theory
14:32calling on former President Barack Obama to be arrested.
14:35Uh-oh, the president was up all night.
14:37Sounds like somebody was...
14:39Under-babied.
14:40We all know what Trump really cares about.
14:42The only thing he cares about is his ballroom,
14:45which he is now claiming is under budget, even though the budget doubled.
14:49We have a ballroom that's under budget.
14:51It's going up right here.
14:53I've doubled the size of it because we obviously need that.
14:57And we're right now on budget, under budget, and ahead of schedule.
15:02I doubled the size of it, you dumb person.
15:05It's doubled the size.
15:07You are not a smart person.
15:09You just said it was under budget.
15:12If the price doubled, that's not under budget.
15:14That's like saying,
15:15I'm sticking to my calorie goal intake, only one burger a day.
15:19You doubled your calorie intake.
15:21That's because I ate two burgers, you dumb person.
15:25Also, if you're going to insult someone, just say dummy.
15:27Why do you talk so weird?
15:29You're like a high school bully who can't think of a comeback.
15:31Hey, look, Donald tripped and split his pants.
15:33Oh, yeah?
15:34Well, you're a not cool guy.
15:42This is what Trump really cares about.
15:44In fact, on Tuesday, Trump admitted he doesn't consider Americans' financial situations
15:50when thinking about the war in Iran.
15:52To what extent are Americans' financial situations motivating you to make a deal?
15:57Not even a little bit.
15:58The only thing that matters when I'm talking about Iran,
16:02they can't have a nuclear weapon.
16:03I don't think about Americans' financial situation.
16:07I don't think about Americans' financial situations.
16:10I think about their sperm counts.
16:13Trump's entire campaign was premised on improving Americans' financial situations,
16:17and now he's admitting he's not even thinking about it.
16:19He's so full of he lives in a house.
16:21Made of but I certainly don't know what you'd call that.
16:25Oh, maybe a house.
16:27This has been A Closer Look.
16:32We'll be right back with Tiffany Haddish, everybody.
16:43For more of Seth's Closer Looks, be sure to subscribe to Late Night on YouTube.
16:56Our first guest tonight is an Emmy and Grammy award-winning comedian, actress, and best-selling author.
17:01You know from her work in Girls Trip, The After Party, and Bad Boys Ride or Die.
17:05She's featured as a cover model in this year's Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue,
17:09which is available in print nationwide on May 26th.
17:12Please welcome back to the show our very good friend, Tiffany Haddish!
17:35My goodness gracious!
17:37And here I thought this was going to be the most stunning version of you today.
17:40Right?
17:41There's so many versions of me.
17:42I'm like an onion, darling.
17:43Layer after layer.
17:44Layer after layer is right.
17:46I put the rough part off.
17:47Oh, my goodness.
17:47You see her at the beach, and then you see her at the ball.
17:50Yes, darling, yes.
17:51Oh, my God.
17:52At the Grunt Show.
17:53Oh, congratulations on this.
17:55You look wonderful.
17:56Thank you!
17:56There's only four cover models this year.
17:59Yes.
17:59How excited were you when you found out that you were going to land this one?
18:03First of all, when I found out they were willing to have me do the photo shoot,
18:07I was super-duper happy.
18:09Like, I was just so happy.
18:11And they were like, well, we can't guarantee the cover, but you'll definitely be in the
18:14magazine, probably a small section in a corner.
18:17I was like, cool, a corner.
18:19Yeah, yeah, yeah.
18:19I'm happy with whatever.
18:21It's cool, whatever.
18:22And then I started questioning them and found out no comedian ever, ever in the history
18:27of all of Sports Illustrated has ever been in it.
18:30So I'm the first.
18:31Yeah.
18:37Well, you know what?
18:38I still feel confident no male comedian's going to make it in.
18:43Do you think you landed on the cover because you nailed the pose so hard?
18:46Were they like, we can't put this in the corner?
18:48I think I landed the cover because I manifested it.
18:52I believed in it.
18:53I kept talking about it.
18:57Since I was a little girl, since I was a little girl since the 1900s, I dreamed of
19:03being in Sports Illustrated.
19:04Really?
19:05I dreamed of being in Sports Illustrated, but only, really, I wanted to do it for track
19:09and field.
19:09I was really good.
19:10I was all city and high jump and shot put.
19:13I know I don't look like a shot putter, but maybe it's all about technique.
19:16Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:17And I was very good at it.
19:18And I thought, yeah, I'll go to college and I'll go to Olympics and I'll be in Sports
19:22Illustrated for sports.
19:23Sports, then that didn't pan out.
19:26Yeah.
19:26And I was like, maybe I'll be in it for comedy sports.
19:28Maybe they'll do comedy sports.
19:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
19:31That didn't pan out neither.
19:32I wrote them a letter.
19:33Y'all should do a comedy sports episode edition of Sports Illustrated.
19:37Right in the garbage.
19:38That letter went right in the garbage.
19:39Yeah, maybe I misspelled a few things.
19:42Anyways, I just started thinking like, wow, you know, my grandmother was a model back
19:46in the 1900s and 50s.
19:47Wow.
19:48You know, she was one of the first black women to be modeling on TV clothing in California.
19:53Unbelievable.
19:53And she did swimsuits as well.
19:55Yeah.
19:57Her model name was Ari.
19:59Ari was her model name.
20:01And she used to teach us all these poses.
20:02And she's like, yeah, baby, you ain't gonna make it as a model.
20:04You're not tall enough.
20:06It's not gonna happen for you.
20:07Wow.
20:07And I just always, in the back of my mind, dreamed of it.
20:11And then one day, you know, Instagram really gives you a lot of hope.
20:14You know, it gives you a lot of hope.
20:15You see all the people in swimsuits.
20:17I'm like, they brave.
20:18If they could do it, I could do it.
20:19Yeah.
20:20Yeah.
20:20And so I just manifested, just believed in it.
20:23And I start asking my fans to write Sports Illustrated letters.
20:26Oh, my goodness.
20:26Because what I've learned is that if you write a letter to any media outlet, a handwritten
20:32letter, they consider it one letter, 5,000 people's opinion.
20:35Do they really?
20:36Yes.
20:37I've been writing about you for years.
20:38That's why you're still on the air.
20:45I write a letter a week.
20:47Good for you.
20:47I will say, last year, NBC said 10,000 people.
20:49You wrote two letters.
20:50I wrote two letters.
20:52You do these in a lot of exotic locations.
20:55Where were you lucky enough to go?
20:56I was lucky enough to go to Laredo, Mexico.
20:58Oh, my goodness.
20:59It's beautiful.
21:00Do you highly recommend Laredo?
21:01I would highly recommend Laredo.
21:03The food was delicious.
21:04It was a nice, quiet town.
21:06They have a 24-hour convenience store.
21:08And look, can I say that their Oreos taste way better than our Oreos.
21:13Really?
21:14Unbelievable.
21:15What do you think it is?
21:16They're using real sugar.
21:19Yeah, that helps.
21:20They soda taste better.
21:22Everything tastes better.
21:22I feel like everything tastes better no matter where I go.
21:25Okay.
21:25Outside of America.
21:26Well, I mean, less processed helps.
21:29Yeah, way less processed.
21:30The real deal.
21:30Yeah, yeah.
21:32You, speaking of sports, you were at the NFL Honors this year.
21:34Yes, I was.
21:35I was hunting.
21:36You were a presenter.
21:39I was a presenter.
21:40And this received some attention.
21:42Mike Vrabel, who's the coach of the New England Patriots.
21:47Vrabel.
21:47Yes, Vrabel.
21:48Yes, that's how you say it.
21:48And by the way, I knew how to say it because, you know...
21:51You watch sports.
21:52Yeah.
21:52And his name said a lot.
21:54But again, that's totally fair.
21:55And his name is said a lot.
21:56Yeah.
21:57But also, it's spelled...
21:58It's not spelled.
21:59It's V-R.
22:00I mean, it's very weird.
22:01It's spelled like Vrabel.
22:02Yeah.
22:03Well, that's...
22:04I mean, I think you can prove that's what you thought.
22:06Let's take a look.
22:07The 2025 AP Coach of the Year is Mike Vrabel.
22:19When did you...
22:21When did you...
22:22That's the most awkward thing that's happened to him this year.
22:25Really?
22:26Yeah.
22:26It was not.
22:27Because I've been paying attention to me.
22:28Oh, you've been paying attention to me?
22:29I've been paying attention to me.
22:30And he keeps being like, that wasn't me.
22:31That was Mike Vrabel.
22:34That's how he's trying to use it now,
22:35is his way out of trouble.
22:37Did you meet a lot of athletes at the NFL Honors?
22:42I did meet a lot of athletes,
22:43and a lot of them were checking me
22:44about how I said the man's name.
22:46And I said, look, I did Hooked on Phonics, okay?
22:48Yeah.
22:49I did.
22:49I could not read until I was 16,
22:51so be glad I said it halfway right.
22:54Yeah.
22:54Oh, wait.
22:55The way his name is spelled is not even in Hooked on Phonics.
22:58No, it's not.
22:59And is that French?
22:59What is that?
23:00What is that language?
23:01No, no one will tell us.
23:02Nobody will tell us, but guess what?
23:03Them men's definitely was giving me their phone numbers.
23:05Really?
23:06Mm-hmm.
23:07Yeah, the nice, for a few teams,
23:09a few young male players was trying to come to my yard.
23:13Wow.
23:13They wanted to see if they could.
23:14Really?
23:15They wanted to see if they could visit my front yard.
23:17And how do you?
23:19And are you amenable to these younger gentlemen
23:22making their way over to do some yard work?
23:24Okay, I don't know what amenable is,
23:27but I'm going to go with that means agreeable,
23:29and I'm interested.
23:32I'm interested.
23:32I'm interested.
23:33So you have the numbers?
23:34And now that you have the numbers,
23:35are you going to try to match them up
23:36to the statistics over the course of the year?
23:38Because...
23:39Well, you know, I've been communicating with them
23:41through text messaging.
23:41I went ahead and did background checks on them.
23:43All of them have pretty good credit scores.
23:44Okay, that's good.
23:46You have that extra,
23:48the internet you pay extra for,
23:49where you can get the credit score of anybody, right?
23:51I have a private investigator.
23:54You will not make those mistakes.
23:56You will not make financial mistakes
23:57with your gentlemen.
23:58No, I want them to have their own finances
24:01and to be responsible for themselves
24:02and never have to ask me for nothing,
24:04because I want you to feel like a man.
24:05So I'll never spend more than $20 on a man.
24:08That's very nice.
24:08But I will spend $1,000
24:11on a background check, though.
24:14We'll be right back with more
24:15for Tiffany Haddish.
24:35Welcome back, everybody.
24:36We're here with Tiffany Haddish.
24:38You're here in New York for a week.
24:39I heard you had a star-studded flight.
24:42Oh, my goodness, yes.
24:43On my flight, first of all,
24:44Delta Airlines, my favorite.
24:46All the best fly on Delta, I think.
24:48I mean, because they got great customer service.
24:50But it was Angela Bassett,
24:53Cherry Cruz,
24:57Alfonso Rivera,
25:00myself, Gabrielle Cidibay.
25:01That's a good girl.
25:02There was a reporter on there, too.
25:04She had texted me afterwards,
25:06like, girl, I saw a lot of y'all.
25:07I was like, yeah,
25:07this is like soul playing in first place.
25:10It was nice.
25:12It was nice.
25:13Why was everybody on the flight?
25:15At first, I thought everybody was on the flight
25:17because they wanted to come
25:18to my Sports Illustrated party.
25:20But then I found out they was all on the flight
25:22because it's up front.
25:24Yeah, it's up front.
25:24So this is a week where all the advertisers
25:26come to New York and the networks are like,
25:27these are new shows.
25:28And so did you ever do?
25:30You had a show, Tiffany Haddish Goes Off.
25:32Did you do up front for that?
25:33I did something like an up front for that.
25:36I did do that.
25:36And then I did for the last OG as well.
25:39Oh, that's good.
25:39So, yeah, I've been in front of the buyers
25:41and trying to get them to,
25:43come on, put some advertising dollars
25:45on my TV show.
25:47People will watch.
25:48But now that I'm in a swimsuit,
25:49I think we'll get more dollars.
25:54You went to the Sydney Comedy Festival.
25:58First time in Australia?
25:59Yeah, that was not my first time in Australia.
26:00You know, I dated a few rugby players
26:02back in my, when I used to work for Air New Zealand
26:05back in my younger years.
26:06Oh, right, right.
26:06Yeah, yeah, you know, I've had many lives, darling.
26:08You have, you have.
26:10I dated a wallaby, if you will.
26:13But I will say you look very comfortable
26:15around a koala.
26:16This is not your first koala.
26:18No, that's not my first time being around a koala.
26:21That's my first time being around a koala
26:22that big, though.
26:23Yeah.
26:24And do you know they got, like, real big claws?
26:27And do you know that when they mate,
26:29it is dangerous?
26:30What part's dangerous?
26:31They have chlamydia.
26:33Yeah, yeah, yeah.
26:34I have heard that.
26:35I have heard that.
26:35But also they fight.
26:36The women, they fight the men.
26:38The men got to have, like, squabbles.
26:39That's the most energy they spend.
26:41They sleep most of the time.
26:42Yeah.
26:42And then they use their energy to eat
26:44and then to mate.
26:45And the man gets, like, off,
26:47and the woman gets off,
26:47and she's like, ooh, you can fight.
26:49Good, okay, you can.
26:49I'll have, I'll have your baby.
26:53I don't, I don't mate like a koala.
26:56Just know that.
26:57Just know that.
26:58I don't, I don't, I mate like a worm.
27:06I will say, a mate like a worm did not,
27:10would not seem very alluring to me
27:11until you put the motion behind it.
27:13And I was like.
27:14Sometimes I mate like a frog.
27:19Best mating is turtle mating.
27:20Why is that?
27:21Because they make the funniest sounds.
27:22First of all, the female turtle be like.
27:25And the male turtle be like.
27:36Sorry.
27:39I.
27:42I would really,
27:44I'd really like to see your YouTube search history.
27:48It's mostly turtle sex.
27:51If you like this video,
27:53the side is just like.
27:54When I get sad,
27:55I literally,
27:56I Google turtle sex
27:57and it brings me much joy.
27:58Be careful though.
27:59Sometimes it'll be a man in a turtle costume.
28:02Do you know,
28:03you've watched enough.
28:04Do you know right away?
28:05Are you like,
28:05that's not a real turtle.
28:07That's not a real turtle.
28:09But I'm a watch.
28:12Hey, last time you were here,
28:14well, we talked about you wanted to do
28:1580 movies by the time you're 50.
28:17Mm-hmm.
28:18That's your goal.
28:18Yes.
28:19And, and you pitched a movie to me last time
28:21and my schedule didn't work out,
28:22but I'm very excited.
28:23My schedule didn't work out.
28:28Okay.
28:29We'll go with that.
28:30But.
28:31Is it true you have a new project?
28:33There might be a part for me?
28:34There is a new project coming.
28:36I don't know if you heard of this.
28:37Girls Trip 2.
28:38I mean, amazing.
28:39The whole world's heard of it.
28:40Yeah.
28:41And there's a role in it for you.
28:43Okay.
28:43There's a role in it for you.
28:44You would be, okay, so like,
28:46in the last Girls Trip,
28:47all the girls, you know,
28:49they all got to make out with somebody.
28:51They all got a little action.
28:52I did not.
28:53Crazy.
28:54And I complained about that.
28:55And now, in this one,
28:56I get some action.
28:58Good.
28:58And so, I was thinking,
29:00it would be really good,
29:01and I pitched you for this,
29:03and they said that you can come in and audition.
29:04You could be my.
29:07You got to audition.
29:08I'm sorry.
29:08I'm sorry.
29:09But you would be my degenerate boyfriend.
29:11Okay.
29:11Okay.
29:12And basically,
29:13you kind of like living off of me,
29:14but I don't realize it.
29:16Oh, yeah.
29:16Right?
29:17And so, you kind of using me,
29:18but I enjoy you.
29:19I like you a lot.
29:20Yeah.
29:20And then my girls tell me,
29:21like, girl, he using you.
29:22He don't love me.
29:23And I'm like, girl, he do love me.
29:24What you talking about?
29:25That man love me.
29:26That's my white man.
29:27And they like.
29:33And you say,
29:34and you kind of like carry yourself like real,
29:36you know, you kind of suave with me.
29:38Yeah, yeah, yeah.
29:38This might be where the audition's going to hurt.
29:43I think you got it.
29:44Okay.
29:44I think you have what it takes.
29:45Maybe a little coaching before I go in there.
29:47Yes.
29:47But can I, can I,
29:48maybe we run some lines right now.
29:50Yeah, yeah, okay.
29:50Okay, so one of the lines that you would say to me is,
29:52baby, the way you make these eggs is amazing.
29:56Okay.
29:57Baby.
29:58Baby.
30:01The way you make these eggs is amazing.
30:04And then.
30:07Now I'm feeling it.
30:09Yeah, you feel it.
30:09It does feel like it's written for me.
30:11Yeah, you got to do it one more time,
30:11but this time you got to smack me on the ass.
30:23Matter of fact, Seth, matter of fact, Seth,
30:25come sit on this couch.
30:27Okay.
30:31I'm making eggs.
30:33I'm making eggs.
30:36Baby.
30:37The way you make these eggs is amazing.
30:41Go ahead.
30:42Yeah.
30:43Woo.
30:47You got a job.
30:50Oh, my God.
30:51That's Sports Illustrated.
30:52That's Sports Illustrated.
30:54Tiffany Haddish, everybody.
30:56The Sports Illustrated Swim Seat.
30:57Two bouncing finishes available across digital platforms now.
31:00And it's currently a lot of maintenance.
31:01We'll be right back with Josh Charlie.
31:21Our next guest is a multi-platinum selling, Emmy, Grammy, and Tony-nominated singer and actor.
31:27His new album, Cinematic, is available now.
31:28Please welcome to the show, Josh Groban, everybody.
31:45Welcome.
31:46I'm so happy to have you.
31:47I'm so happy to finally be here.
31:49I know.
31:49It's been too long in coming.
31:50Oh, truly.
31:51I'm honored.
31:52And I feel like we've had a lot.
31:53We've had it planned and stuff has gone wrong.
31:55There have been strikes and pandemics.
31:57Broadway and all kinds of things.
31:58So, yeah.
31:58No, finally we're here.
31:59I watch you every night.
32:00Oh, that's so nice of you to say.
32:02Very exciting for me.
32:02And the timing of this is very exciting for me because I can ask you about your very recent engagement.
32:09I got engaged.
32:09Yeah, thank you so much.
32:16I did something really smart in my life.
32:19Yeah.
32:19I'm very happy about it.
32:20We were all like, finally, he's doing something smart.
32:23Exactly, yes.
32:23Can you tell us, this looks familiar to me.
32:26What is the location?
32:27That is the wishing well next to Snow White's castle at Disneyland.
32:30Okay, great.
32:31I know.
32:32We do have some really great memories at Disneyland.
32:35And so I was there for a family day anyway.
32:37We brought my two-year-old nephew and my brother and my sister-in-law.
32:39We had an amazing day.
32:41And I asked a couple of friends that I had that worked there, hey, is there a private place
32:44that I could maybe do something I want to, you know, ask the question at the end of the day?
32:47And they settled this up and they said, let's talk to you florist.
32:50And they made it magical.
32:51That's fantastic.
32:52I mean, that's a very magical place.
32:53It was.
32:53I have to ask.
32:54Did she really?
32:56She said no.
32:57She said no.
32:58Oh, my God.
32:59So this is her saying goodbye.
33:01She said that's goodbye.
33:02That's a goodbye picture.
33:03Oh, wow.
33:03Oh, so now I'm mad I brought it up.
33:05But Instagram loved it.
33:06They loved it.
33:07A lot of likes on Instagram.
33:08Did she really not see it coming?
33:10No.
33:10Oh, that's well done.
33:11Not at all.
33:11Because I chose a day where we had other things going on, which was great for my nerves.
33:15And also, we had a little bit of work to do in the morning, a little bit of stuff
33:18I had to do for Disney, and then the family day.
33:20And so this came as a total shock to the end of the day.
33:22That's great.
33:23Yeah, I have not planned many things well in my life, because I'm very disorganized.
33:28But this was one of those nights that I nailed it.
33:30Now, we were talking backstage that now, of course, she can help you plan a wedding.
33:33And I'm wondering about music at a wedding.
33:35Is that something that is just you and you alone?
33:37I will have no say in the music.
33:39Really?
33:39Yeah.
33:40Based on your instincts or hers?
33:43Well, I mean, she's from London, and she's really into 90s Britpop.
33:47And I just think, like, she will choose songs that are way more fun.
33:50I can't dance at all.
33:52Right.
33:52So, like, the stuff that I'm like, like, how about a little Sigur Rós?
33:55Like, no, that's not going to work well.
33:57No, no, you don't want Sigur Rós.
33:58Great band.
33:58You don't want them at a wedding.
33:59Maybe not for a wedding dance floor.
34:01So, yeah, she'll be choosing the music.
34:02This is a fantastic album.
34:04Thank you so much, Seth.
34:05You've done covers before.
34:06I have, yeah.
34:06This is all of, these are movie, classic movie songs.
34:10They are.
34:11I've done a couple other kind of themed albums in my career.
34:13And as a singer and just as somebody who loves to interpret music first, I love writing and
34:18I love originals.
34:18But there is something about finding songs that have been with you your whole life and
34:22stuff that's inspired you for me through film that, you know, to be able to put a stamp
34:26on these classics has been one of the most fun things I've ever recorded, truly.
34:29I assume there's a mix of songs you couldn't get permission to use and also songs that you
34:35absolutely had to have.
34:36Like, what were ones that made the album that when you first had the idea, you knew had to
34:40be in there?
34:40The cool thing about covering songs that have already been released is you actually
34:45don't really need to get much permission at all.
34:46Oh, that's good.
34:47You can record anything you want and then the writer gets the money.
34:50Yeah.
34:50But, yeah, so maybe I should have asked, actually, now that I'm thinking about it.
34:54Sorry, Adele.
34:57You do that, right?
34:58You do an Adele.
34:59That's very bold.
35:00Yeah.
35:00But, you know, these are, finding the songs to do was hard because the list is very long.
35:05There's so many that you love.
35:06And when people find out that you're doing an album like this, they're going to have recommendations.
35:09There are just so many in this canon.
35:12But I wanted to choose songs that I related to, stuff I grew up with, stuff I felt was
35:15maybe relevant for the world we're in now, and stuff I felt like I could really sing.
35:19There's a lot of songs that I wanted to do or movies that I love that had songs in them
35:22that just aren't right for my voice.
35:24Do you know because you know your voice so well and you know music so well that it's not
35:28a fit, or have you ever been recording a song and realized in the moment, like, oh, this
35:33is going to work out?
35:34A little bit of both.
35:35There are some things where I'm very self-aware, and sometimes I need to be the last person
35:38to be convinced that something might be right for me.
35:40And that's where the arrangers, a great arranger, will convince a singer, like, maybe this is
35:44something you can sink your teeth into.
35:45But there are those moments for sure where I'm like, I love a singer, and I love a song,
35:49and I'm like, yeah, we got the piano demo.
35:51Yeah, set up the mic.
35:52Yeah, that one.
35:5247.
35:53Let's do it.
35:53And I'll be like, you know, that's, nope, that's for karaoke.
35:58All right?
35:59Yeah, yeah, yeah.
36:00Yeah, and those are moments that set you, that's why you're in the studio for months.
36:03You're like, get the 47 out.
36:04Throw the 47 away.
36:05I wanted to do comedy songs on this album because there are so many funny, great, brilliant
36:10songs from, like, I wanted to sing, like, I'm a Lumberjack from Monty Python.
36:15And I just, my voice is too, is too dramatic for those songs.
36:18Yeah.
36:18I don't know.
36:19It's very nice that you can appreciate it as comedy and realize what I bring to it will
36:23not have the same effect on it.
36:25I mean, it would have been funny.
36:2980-piece orchestra.
36:31I'm a Lumberjack and I don't care.
36:34I mean, it's not bad.
36:34I think they would have.
36:35It would have been stunningly beautiful.
36:37Yeah.
36:38But it may be done on the arc of the album.
36:40You, Jennifer Hudson, is on the album.
36:42Oh, yeah.
36:42One of your collaborators.
36:43Yes.
36:44A collaborator I want to ask about, though, is your father.
36:46Yeah, my dad.
36:47My favorite collaboration that I've ever done is my dad.
36:49So my dad turns 80 this summer.
36:51Unbelievable.
36:51He played, yeah, he's, love you, Dan.
36:56And he was a musician before he got married and had kids.
36:59He was a trumpet player and played in college.
37:00And, you know, his parents probably rightfully kind of said, hey, if you want to have stability
37:04in your life, maybe put the jazz trumpet away and go into something else.
37:06Yeah, yeah.
37:08And he did.
37:09And so because he did that, now my brother and I have been able to fulfill our dreams.
37:13And so I asked him, you know, I said, I'm doing Moon River.
37:15Did you ever used to play it?
37:16He said, yeah, I played it in college.
37:17I said, if you've got three weeks to rehearse, take out the old trumpet and would you play
37:21it with me on this album?
37:22And he rehearsed every day and he friggin' nailed it on the album.
37:26He plays so well.
37:26That's amazing.
37:27And it was a really emotional day.
37:30My two-year-old nephew was at that session, too.
37:32Wow.
37:32My nephew was at every important moment in my life.
37:35Did you feel like you had to check on your dad every day to be like, are you practicing?
37:39Are you taking this seriously?
37:40Do you appreciate this is a real album?
37:43Yeah.
37:43This is your major label debut, Dad.
37:46I didn't have to ask because the trumpet is so kind of loud and brassy.
37:49I would just call the house.
37:50I'd be like, so, Mom, what did you do today?
37:52I'd hear it.
37:53I'd hear it in the background.
37:55Was your mom like, I can't thank you enough, Josh, for inviting your dad to get back into trumpet?
38:00I know.
38:03She was actually really proud of him.
38:04And it was just really fun for us all to see him, like, rediscover that.
38:07Because my musical DNA is from him.
38:08Of course.
38:09And so, like, you know, I think he probably is zipping up the trumpet and putting it away again, maybe,
38:13for a little while longer.
38:15Although now, you know, I've been talking about him a lot, you know, and talking about this album.
38:19And he's kind of getting cocky about it now.
38:23Yeah, yeah.
38:23We're going to have to go on tour again.
38:24By the way, I give him permission to be cocky about it.
38:26Yeah, 100%.
38:27That's an incredible thing.
38:28It's the joy of my life.
38:29For anybody to have only three weeks to get ready for a Groban album.
38:31Truly.
38:32Absolutely.
38:32I had more than that.
38:34And I'm Groban.
38:37You're going on tour.
38:38Yes.
38:38North American tour.
38:4016 shows, 30 days.
38:41Up and downs of the road.
38:43But do you must love the moment you walk on stage?
38:45It's the best.
38:46I used to get really nervous going out on stage.
38:48And I realized it was just because I was so excited to get out there and do it that, like,
38:51the pacing around backstage is actually the worst part.
38:54And I record to perform live.
38:56It's my favorite part.
38:57And especially now when, like, everything is so, you know, divided and fear-based.
39:02And I just doom-scroll the news.
39:05And to be in one place where you can all just kind of, like, you know, sing together literally and
39:09figuratively is a fun thing.
39:11So, yeah, I can't wait to get back out there.
39:13Well, it's wonderful that you're out there.
39:14Congrats on the album.
39:15Thanks so much.
