U.S. inflation rose 0.6% in April and 3.8% annually, as higher gasoline, shelter, and airfare costs kept pressure on consumers and the Fed.

00:02Consumer prices rose 0.6% in April and increased 3.8% annually, according to CNBC.
00:10CPI rose in line with monthly expectations in April,
00:13but annual inflation came in 0.1 percentage point higher than Dow Jones estimates.
00:18The Bureau of Labor Statistics said core CPI, which excludes food and energy,
00:23increased 0.4% monthly and 2.8% annually,
00:27well above the Federal Reserve's 2% goal.
00:31Energy prices climbed 3.8% and gasoline prices rose 28.4% from a year ago.
00:38Shelter costs increased 0.6% and airline fares rose 2.8%.
00:44Real average hourly wages fell 0.5% for the month and declined 0.3% annually.
