00:00So I remember when I first watched the first episode, I was like, holy s**t, that's what we did?
00:04I want to go do more.
00:05Guys, congratulations on the show.
00:08Before we get into that, let's pull one out from the Musketeers.
00:11What a show that was.
00:12Oh, bless you, mate.
00:13It was a great show about like 10 years ago.
00:14Yeah.
00:15Three Musketeers, four Musketeers, all good Musketeers.
00:17Yeah, yeah.
00:18I was speaking to Peter Capaldi a week ago about Criminal Records Series 2.
00:22I'm in that as well.
00:22You're in that as well.
00:24Yeah, yeah.
00:24A little reunion.
00:25You guys have a little chat about maybe a reboot.
00:27Reboots are all the range nowadays.
00:28I mean, we didn't really, yeah, I mean, it wasn't the first, I mean, that's been talked
00:33about a lot by a few people about rebooting it, but yeah, I think it's sort of, I think,
00:39I think reboots, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.
00:42I think, I think sometimes just best to leave things where they are.
00:45As much as, as much fun as it would be, yeah, I think we should leave it where it is.
00:50I like a cheeky special every now and again.
00:52A special could work, a special could work.
00:54Hello, we're going to do another five series.
00:56Just come back, one little episode.
00:57This is what these guys are up to.
00:59Yeah.
00:59One of the best characters dies at the end.
01:00You know, one of those needless money grabs.
01:02Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:03I'm there for it, man.
01:03Yeah.
01:04Let's talk about this show.
01:05Great.
01:05First and foremost, a show that does not need rebooting because it's here and it's thriving.
01:10How are you guys feeling after the success of series one?
01:14Because it's such a big, ridiculous, bombastic, joyful show.
01:19Did you get that in the making of it or did like, was there anything that surprised you
01:23when you sat down that first night and you're like, so this is, this is what they have in store
01:27for us?
01:27Yeah, like we talked about this not too long ago.
01:30As artists, you never know what you're going to get.
01:32You just do the work and then you don't know until it comes out and then ultimately until
01:35you see how the audience feels about it.
01:37But I think we were just like really like taken back and, you know, a little gratitude of just
01:42how well it was received.
01:44And also, I remember when I first watched the first episode, I was like, holy shit, that
01:48when we did, I want to go do more.
01:51Like just from the opening, it just looks so just sharp and just next level and the music.
01:56And I mean, just the credits, the opening credits, I was just impressed by.
02:00So when the show came on, I was like, oh my God, I didn't know that that's what we did.
02:04And we're not always in scenes with each other.
02:05So I don't always get to see what he's doing.
02:07And I don't know what all his scenes look like.
02:09So you get to watch it.
02:10I get to sometimes watch it like y'all do for the first time and like really get to see
02:14it
02:14as an audience member.
02:16I think music is such a big part of any show.
02:19And then this uses music.
02:20I certainly wouldn't say it uses it sparingly.
02:23Everything is kind of a crescendo.
02:25Yeah.
02:25And if you get that right, it's like it puts a smile on your face at the end of every
02:28scene
02:28because you feel like you're watching the greatest ever episode of Dynasty or something.
02:33And it is kind of like joyful in a way.
02:36How have you found ingratiating yourself into kind of British culture?
02:41Because British culture itself is quite specific.
02:42British culture in the 1980s in this area is so specific.
02:47And whenever I see your character and whenever I think about you as an actor, I'm like,
02:52what are you must be thinking about?
02:54What is happening around you?
02:56You could imagine me first season.
02:58I was like, what the hell did I do?
03:00What did I get myself into?
03:02Where am I?
03:03It was all new.
03:04It was a lot to take in.
03:05But I'm adaptable.
03:06I love to travel.
03:07I love meeting new people, new cultures, food.
03:10And to be able to do that as an actor and be somewhere filming in a new country and meeting
03:16a whole new world of actors that I didn't know about and getting to bond with them and
03:20obviously learn and pull from them.
03:21And everybody embraced me in a beautiful way.
03:24So that was cool.
03:24But it was tough first season.
03:26But second season coming into it, more confident, found my ground, my footing.
03:30I know where things are.
03:31I'm more familiar.
03:32It was definitely a culture shock at first.
03:34But I'm a lady who will find my way.
03:36So I was good after a while.
03:38How's the kind of raunchy camaraderie on set?
03:41Because whenever you see a movie or a show and they have sex scenes and stuff, you think,
03:46well, that's obviously must have been a big day on set and a big thing on your mind going,
03:49oh, God, we're going to do this on episode six and whatnot.
03:52But because it's so everywhere in the show, like everybody is going through it all the
03:59time.
03:59Does that change the kind of the vibe when you're on set?
04:03Like, does it feel like a very different energy to how it normally would be?
04:06I mean, I think, I mean, I think it's, I think for me personally, in my experience,
04:12I find that it does not get any easier no matter how often you do it, no matter how many
04:16times
04:16you do it, it doesn't get any easier.
04:18It always feels awkward.
04:19And it's, you know, even with the help of an intimacy coordinator, it's, you know, there
04:23are still a million people looking around.
04:25And it's, you know, you're sort of, you're sort of doing, you're sort of doing these intimate
04:28scenes with people that you get on really well with and you're friends with.
04:31So it just kind of makes it even more awkward.
04:33So I think knowing that, and I feel like everybody kind of feels the same way.
04:36It just sort of, it's, it's one of those things that everybody's in the same boat.
04:39You have to get it done.
04:41Let's just do it to the best of our ability as, as efficiently as we can.
04:44And, you know, we'll give each other a hug at the end of it and just say great work.
04:48And then we move on.
04:49For me personally, that's how it works.
04:51And it is great work.
04:52I can tell you, congratulations.
04:53Thank you very much.
04:54I've been, I've been asking a lot of people today whether they thought it was like more or less
04:57than series one.
04:58And they think, they feel like it's more because you've done more episodes.
05:00But generally speaking, we're on a level.
05:02Yeah, I think it's probably about the same.
05:04Yeah, I would say it's pretty level.
05:04Yeah, I think it's probably about the same.
05:06How do we keep these, for want of a better word, balls in the air then, do you think?
05:11Like, because keeping that magic.
05:13In British TV, we usually will crack out six episodes.
05:16Then we'll do another six episodes.
05:17And we're like, and it's run its course.
05:18And in American TV, they'll like do, oh, we're going to do 24 episodes and another 24 episodes
05:23and 400 more episodes.
05:25When you catch lightning in a bottle, like something like this, where it's that perfect kind of like
05:29mid-range, you're giving us a lot of content, but it's all like very high quality.
05:33What's the feeling when you're opening these scripts and you're going onto set like of
05:38we've got to keep people in.
05:40How are we going to do that for this series?
05:42How do we do it?
05:43I think it's like that sophomore anxiety of doing like a sophomore album.
05:47It's like the first album does really, really well.
05:49So you want to come back.
05:50I think of it the same way with TV.
05:52Like you want to come back.
05:53You want to make it bigger, bolder, sexier.
05:54And I think that's what we, that was our goal.
05:57And hopefully you guys feel like we achieved that.
05:59But yeah, it's always a bit more easier and the confidence is there.
06:04And also knowing how you guys are responding to it lets us know what more to do or what
06:10less to do.
06:11So it's just been really cool.
06:13You know, we flip through these scripts and we can't wait to get back and seeing how the
06:16characters are growing and just seeing how they evolve over time, which is, you know,
06:20excited for y'all to see it, yeah, share it with y'all.
06:22One question I've got is, this is an interesting pairing here.
06:25It might just be for the sake of the day, but like, I mean, is this, is this telling in
06:31any way for series two?
06:33I mean, you've been a very busy woman and very sought after.
06:38You've been a very busy guy, but we don't see as much of it.
06:40Like, there's kind of real connections.
06:42Yeah.
06:43I think they just, I think, I think, I think, I think they just put me and Defeeta together
06:47just because we're cool as f***, basically.
06:48Yeah, basically.
06:49Yeah, that's it.
06:49How do you feel?
06:50Are you vibing with us right now?
06:51Yeah, you vibing with it.
06:52Okay, so that's why they did it.
06:53That's why they did it.
06:54Yeah.
06:54And I would say, you know, make sure you tune in May 15th and you can, you know.
06:58I mean, this is, I love this.
06:59Maybe you can see a little bit more of.
07:00I need to get, I need to get better at doing this.
07:02Dropping the day.
07:02They're kind of like, this is when you watch it.
07:05Hulu, Disney Plus.
07:05That's what it's about.
07:06That's what we're here for.
07:07Yeah, that's exactly what we're here for, yeah.
07:08Let's keep it very focused on, on that.
07:11Sorry to rub it in for the audience, but I've already got the first three episodes.
07:13I love that.
07:14Laptop and they're good.
07:15I love that.
07:16But at least, you know, May 15th come, you still can see some more.
07:18There's still something for you to see on May 15th.
07:20So if you want to see.
07:21I bet there is plenty for people to see.
07:23Exactly.
07:23Well, congratulations, guys.
07:25Thank you so much.
07:25It's such a ridiculous and Moorish show that it's hard to find who it isn't made for in
07:31a way.
07:31Yeah.
07:32And I love that, especially on like weird times that we live in now.
07:35Yeah.
07:36Yeah.
07:36So congratulations.
07:37Thank you so much.
07:37Really looking forward to seeing more of it.
07:39And may you make the show forever until we're all dead.
07:43Fingers crossed.
07:44Fingers crossed.
07:45Cheers, babe.
