00:00Hi, I'm Annie, senior style editor of Refinery29.

00:03Structured shell tops can feel a little limiting and outdated,

00:06so today I'm going to make three outfits

00:08to breathe new life into the piece.

00:19This particular top is Rebecca Valens.

00:21It reads a little bit fancier because it's gold and textured,

00:24but let's see if I can mix it in with some pieces

00:26I already have in my wardrobe.

00:27So first I'd like to try this with a pair of ripped jeans

00:29to edge it out a little bit.

00:31So I'll try these, but just jeans and a shirt

00:33can be a little bit boring.

00:35So we're going to see if we can layer it with something.

00:37I think this one will be kind of a cool length to try

00:39and might make it more feminine.

00:45I love this first look as an alternative

00:47to the traditional going out top and jeans.

00:50The ripped jeans and heels keep it edgy on the bottom,

00:52but the pleated shirt underneath the gold shell top

00:54keeps it feminine and kind of Grecian.

00:56I love the mix of the outfit all together.

01:01This first outfit was fun and for nighttime,

01:03but let's see if we can make this top work for the office too.

01:06We can put it with more traditional trousers,

01:09layer it over a button down,

01:11and see if we can make it work into a full suit.

01:17Here the gold top kind of takes on the third piece

01:19in a three-piece suit, and it's perfect for the office

01:22or a more tailored wedding look.

01:24I suggest though that if you're going to be wearing a short suit

01:26with shorts of this length, to wear a strapless,

01:29more feminine shoe to elongate the legs.

01:34So the first two looks played up the unusual layering

01:36that you can do with the shirt.

01:37For the third look, I want to do something super classic and feminine,

01:41so I'm going to pair it with a full skirt.

01:47Putting the top with a vintage skirt plays up its throwback vibe,

01:50except the top is super structured,

01:52and the skirt is really feminine and flowy,

01:54which would be so fun to dance in.

01:55Pair it all with some kick-ass shoes,

01:57and you've got yourself an outfit.

02:01From a night out to the office to a wedding,

02:03a structured shell top is super versatile,

02:05and definitely something you should have in your closet.
