00:00I look like a worm.
00:05That's dope.
00:06Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:08And today, we're counting down our picks for the wildest, campiest, and most creative looks to ever hit the red
00:15carpet.
00:16So 2024 was Swarovski, 2023 was Probable Gaurang, 2022 was Oscar de la Renta.
00:24Number 10, Rihanna and A$AP Rocky, Met Gala.
00:29We have all been waiting for this moment, and she is making it official with A$AP Rocky.
00:34Rihanna!
00:35Rihanna!
00:37A$AP!
00:38That a boy!
00:39With several Met Galas under their belts, it's hard to choose a favorite avant-garde look from Rihanna and A
00:46$AP Rocky.
00:47At 2017's Rei Kawakubo Comme des Garçons, Art of the In-Between theme, Riri went solo and wowed in a
00:55punk rock floral creation.
00:56In 2023, she wore an all-white Valentino gown with large roses, and did a mid-carpet wardrobe change, while
01:04her partner rocked a Gucci ensemble with a red kilt over embellished denim.
01:09But we have to highlight the stylish power couple's first Met Gala together in 2021.
01:14So, you guys are making it red carpet official!
01:18We are ready together.
01:19So, did you stop?
01:20Rihanna wore a custom Balenciaga sculptural comforter-like gown, and A$AP Rocky looked just as cozy in a multicolor
01:28quilted cape by ERL.
01:30These bold trendsetters love to experiment with fashion, and they never miss.
01:34Did you let Rihanna under your umbrella tonight?
01:41I've been working on- I know.
01:43I'm here all night, guys.
01:45You worked on that all week?
01:46All week, Rihanna.
01:47Number 9.
01:48Cynthia Erivo, Mexico City Premier of Wicked.
01:52You join us at the OzDust.
01:56I'm inviting you.
01:57Why?
01:58Well, because everyone will be there.
02:01And don't tell me you have nothing to wear.
02:03If Cynthia Erivo wasn't already considered a style icon, her Wicked Press Store surely would have earned her the title.
02:10I knew that I wanted to wear many looks, and also, it was kind of expected.
02:15And though I don't necessarily like to do what's expected, I'm never going to say no to changing my clothes
02:20constantly and wearing loads of wonderful pieces.
02:23At the 2024 Mexico City Premier, she stepped out in a custom Tom Brown dress with a corset bodice and
02:29floor-length structured skirt.
02:31Erivo is known for her avant-garde nail art that elevates every look.
02:36And she also got a mani for the sculptured witch hands on the shoulders.
02:40Months later, the Best Actress nominee dominated the Oscars' red carpet in a custom Louis Vuitton deep emerald velvet ball
02:47gown with a high collar and dramatic off-the-shoulder sleeves shaped like a giant bow.
02:52Erivo is always like a walking piece of art, and both looks are excellent examples of her unique approach to
02:58fashion.
02:59Yes, indeed. And I'm really proud of it. I love it so much. I wanted to have, like, real old
03:04-school, old Hollywood, that sort of real glamour, volume.
03:10Number 8. Céline Zion. 71st Academy Awards.
03:15You're here again to nominate. What's this been like for you?
03:18It's been fantastic. It's always a thrill to be here. My fourth time at the Academy Awards.
03:21These days, we're used to seeing women rock menswear both on and off the red carpet.
03:26But at the 71st Annual Academy Awards in 1999, Céline Zion's pantsuit caused a stir.
03:34Who's...
03:35I think you are the chicest... You are one of the chicest women in the business. You know that.
03:41The Best Original Song nominee hit the Oscars' red carpet in an all-white tuxedo
03:45from John Galliano's spring 1999 couture collection for Christian Dior.
03:50She turned heads not only for going against societal norms by wearing pants when women were expected to wear gowns,
03:57but also for the back-to-front tuxedo jacket and daring low-back design.
04:01Zion topped it off with a matching white fedora cocked to the side, and black diamond studded Ray-Bans.
04:07It's a look that confused some and delighted others, and is now considered a trailblazing fashion moment.
04:13Years passed, and now it became like something that people still talk about,
04:18because I trusted my stylist, and I love John Galliano, and here I am owning that big time.
04:26Number 7. Cher. 58th Academy Awards.
04:29The people, the members of the Academy, and I'm a member of the Academy,
04:33but I think that they put restrictions on you that if you are a serious actress,
04:38and I'm really serious about my acting,
04:40but I'm not going to give up who I am so that they can feel comfortable with me, you know?
04:45When people hear the term revenge dress, they think it's likely the result of a breakup.
04:50But at the 58th Academy Awards, Cher served her own vengeance-inspired look
04:54after she was snubbed for her work in Mask.
04:57The Academy didn't really like me, so I thought they hated the way I dressed,
05:02and I had young boyfriends, and they just thought I wasn't serious,
05:05so I came out and said, as you can see, I got my handbook on how to dress like a
05:10serious actress.
05:11The Bob Mackie-designed two-piece ensemble featured a jewel-encrusted bra halter top
05:16and a long skirt with two side slits that hung low on the waist.
05:21Cher wanted to make a statement,
05:22and the midriff-bearing outfit certainly did,
05:25along with the showgirl-esque feathered headpiece.
05:28Two years later, the icon brought her wild, rule-breaking style to the Oscars red carpet
05:33in another sheer Bob Mackie gown, and this time she took home the gold.
05:38Bob and I thought about it for a while, and there was a black leather jacket.
05:41I mean, we went through so many changes, and then, oh, it was really weird.
05:45I mean, Coca-Cola wanted to see it before they would allow me to come tonight.
05:48It was unbelievable, you know?
05:50I mean, people were, like, so weirded out about this dress,
05:53and I feel it's quite appropriate for the evening.
05:57Number 6. Janelle Monae. Met Gala.
06:00Hello.
06:03Ooh.
06:05The time-traveling dandy has arrived.
06:09Multi-talented Janelle Monae is known for their eccentric style,
06:12and the Met Gala is definitely where their fashion thrives.
06:16At the 2025 Met Gala, the artist nailed the year's theme, super fine, tailoring black style,
06:22wearing a custom half black and half pinstripe tailored suit by Tom Brown and Broadway costume
06:28designer Paul Tazewell.
06:30I mean, you see the stitching alongside here, and then even the stitching in my hair.
06:35Like, all of it, when I'm walking around, I'm carrying so much with me,
06:40and I'm carrying so many people whose shoulders I stand on.
06:44Hopefully more people will get re-educated about us, our people, where we come from, where we're going.
06:49A boxy, red-and-white striped design, along with the gold detailing, made the suit pop even more.
06:56Monet was a walking optical illusion, and beneath was a deconstructed part suit,
07:01part gown design in the same black, white, and red palette.
07:05Monet topped off the surreal look with a black-and-white bowler hat,
07:08with a ticking monocle clock attached.
07:11They wanted to serve time-traveling dandy, and more than delivered.
07:15The kid in me is so thankful and excited to be with the best dandies.
07:22This is just a huge privilege for me, to have a part in dressing the amazing American dandy.
07:29My clock is rewinding.
07:31But I am definitely ready to time-travel.
07:33Number 5. Lizzie Gardner, 67th Academy Awards.
07:37So, you actually make money by dressing up like a woman?
07:41Oh, sure. You can make a fine living in a pair of heels.
07:44Award-winning costume designer Lizzie Gardner turned heads at the 1995 Academy Awards,
07:50wearing a dress made of 254 expired American Express gold cards,
07:55with a matching shawl and platform heels.
07:58The eye-catching look almost made an appearance in The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert,
08:03the cult classic for which she was nominated and won.
08:06Since Amex wouldn't approve it for the film, she decided to wear it herself.
08:09I remember getting phone calls from people back in Australia going,
08:12no, don't do it. Don't do it.
08:14And I was like, it's too late. I haven't got anything else to wear.
08:17Don't say that to me now.
08:18If anyone was unfamiliar with Gardner or her work,
08:21they surely knew who she was after seeing the campy creation.
08:25At the time, some critics considered it a top pick for one of the worst Oscar gowns ever.
08:30Decades later, the look is so iconic that it has its own Wikipedia page.
08:34I'm just, I'm just completely overwhelmed and honored. I mean, it's just an, it feels crazy.
08:41Number four, Zendaya, London premiere of Dune Part 2.
08:45For years, Zendaya has been slaying red carpets and looks ranging from classic and chic to sexy and daring.
08:52I love the creativity.
08:54Do you know what I mean? I love, I love a strong reference.
08:58We love that.
08:59Maybe you'll get some inspiration.
09:00Right, right. I'm inspired. Law?
09:03Are we taking notes?
09:04Uh-oh.
09:04Her boldest looks have typically appeared at the Met Gala,
09:08like the Joan of Arc-inspired Atelier Versace chainmail gown she wore for 2018's Heavenly Bodies,
09:14fashion, and the Catholic imagination.
09:16We also must mention her custom Maison Margiela by John Galliano emerald and navy dress
09:22with flora and fauna motifs in 2024.
09:255.42 p.m., a last-minute hair fix.
09:27Away, then she strikes a pose, getting full-on fairytale villain.
09:31The gown featured clusters of grapes and a high-fashioned hummingbird.
09:36But at the 2024 Dune Part 2 premiere in London, the actress went full avant-garde in vintage Thierry Mugler.
09:43The futuristic Metropolis-esque articulated metal catsuit comes from the designer's fall-winter 1995 couture collection
09:50and is hands down one of Zendaya's most audacious looks to date.
09:54We tried it on, and I was like, guys, I think it's fitting.
09:58It fit like a glove, and I was like, this is so crazy, and everybody was like, ooh, like, you
10:02know,
10:03it just felt very, like, oh, it's meant to be, whatever.
10:05Number 3. Grace Jones, 25th Grammy Awards.
10:09When it comes to unconventional fashion, the legendary Grace Jones was a pioneer in androgynous style and fearless self-expression.
10:17It does, it looks spiritual, doesn't it?
10:20This has a spiritual thing to it, doesn't it?
10:22Kind of a halo, a glow in between the lines.
10:26Come on, guys.
10:27One of her most memorable looks was at the 25th Grammy Awards,
10:31where she graced the red carpet in a sculptural leather ensemble,
10:35featuring a rattan and bamboo top with a matching ultra-wide brim umbrella-shaped hat
10:40from Issei Miyake's spring-summer 1982 collection.
10:44You see, when it gets wet, fellas, this is a nice place to go under.
10:49The multi-hyphenate artist was one of Miyake's muses,
10:52a match made in haute couture heaven.
10:54Jones is often called the embodiment of avant-garde,
10:57especially when she wears pieces from this designer.
11:00And we wholeheartedly agree.
11:02Well, you always come up with different things and new things, and...
11:05Yeah, yeah, I think...
11:06It's beautiful.
11:07Put on the glasses.
11:08Put on the glasses.
11:09You want to see it with the glasses on?
11:11And I really look like a space, sir.
11:14Number 2.
11:15Lady Gaga.
11:1627th MTV Video Music Awards.
11:19How beautiful in my way
11:22Cause God makes no mistakes
11:25Known for her extravagant style,
11:27Lady Gaga owns every red carpet she's graced.
11:30At the 2010 Grammy Awards, she was a literal star,
11:34turning heads in a custom Armani Privé Galaxy gown
11:37and carrying a silver starburst.
11:40In 2019, she unsurprisingly nailed the camp Notes on Fashion theme at the Met Gala
11:45and dominated the carpet, serving not one, but four different black and hot pink looks designed by Brandon Maxwell.
11:52But who could forget Mother Monster's infamous meat dress at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards?
11:57I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse.
12:01Designer Frank Fernandez draped Gaga in head-to-toe raw flank steak, crafted into an asymmetrical silhouette.
12:08While reactions were divisive, the look will go down in pop culture history as one of the wildest fashion moments.
12:15It has many interpretations, but for me this evening, it's as if we don't stand up for what we believe
12:20in,
12:20if we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're going to have as much rights as the meat on
12:24our bones.
12:29Before we unveil our top pick, here are a few honorable mentions.
12:36The actress-singer nabbed an Oscar wearing an Arnold Scassi sheer pantsuit.
12:43The style icon donned a deconstructed tartan and tulle Alexander McQueen creation.
12:50The pose star collaborated with Christian Siriano on this black velvet tuxedo gown.
12:58Tyla Met Gala The singer-songwriter wore a Sands of Time-inspired Balmain gown to the Met Gala.
13:06Jared Leto Met Gala The actor-musician wore a red Gucci gown with his own head as an accessory.
13:17Before we continue, check out the single from Sound Mojo's album, Balance.
13:21Classical music reimagined as rock, hard rock, and metal.
13:24Check out the full track and album below.
13:28Gold buys silence, guilt buys prayer.
13:32I am the echo, you can't outrun the jokes on you.
13:37The blade's begun.
13:41Number 1. Bjork. 73rd Academy Awards.
13:46In 2001, Bjork attended the Academy Awards as a Best Original Song nominee.
13:51Not only did you co-write the song, sing the song, you also acted in the film.
13:55It was your first time acting.
13:56Yeah.
13:56While the Icelandic singer-songwriter didn't take home the statue, she made a big splash
14:01on the red carpet wearing her now-iconic swan dress designed by Marian Peorski.
14:07With all the unconventional outfits we see today, Bjork's swan dress and pretend egg-laying
14:12on the red carpet aren't that shocking.
14:14But at the time, people were far from ready to appreciate the artistry.
14:23It was parodied to death, but has since been honored, even displayed in the Metropolitan
14:28Museum of Art's Camp Notes on Fashion exhibit.
14:31And there's no doubt we'll still be talking about it decades from now.
14:45What avant-garde look do you think is the most iconic?
