00:00Jeremy Coney now, and he's bowling to John Dyson.
00:04That's well played, and there's a single.
00:05That's a beautifully played shot.
00:07That bisected the outfield, and it's racing away towards the boundary.
00:10It might not make it.
00:11Hadley slides in and pulls it back.
00:13Well, that's a fine bit of fielding.
00:17A very strong throw right over the top of the stumps.
00:19Great bit of fielding there by Richard Hadley.
00:21A marvellous shot, really good cricket.
00:24Well, there's another one.
00:25This one's in the air rather than a mid-wicket.
00:27This might get to the boundary.
00:28It's a short boundary out in the square area, and that is four.
00:33So, Wood smashing that over the top of the mid-wicket.
00:36Not quite middling it.
00:41Again, a quick single.
00:42This could be close.
00:43Oh, he's missed the stumps, and again, a very, very close run out there.
00:49And I would reckon that that probably hurt Graham Wood.
00:52He busted that finger in Perth the other day,
00:55and that slide there, and the jarring of the bat wouldn't have done him any good at all.
00:59There was some doubt, in fact, if he'd be available for this game,
01:03and there was plenty of doubt whether he'd still be on the field if that ball had hit the stumps.
01:10Really, there's a little bit of Harry Carey out there.
01:16And that could be out.
01:18Beautiful catch.
01:18Driving forward at cover, and the first of his ball, and Wood caught at cover.
01:22A diving catch off the following at Chatfield.
01:26So, Australia, one for 37.
01:31Well, that was a really good piece of cricket.
01:34Wood not quite to the pitch of the ball, hitting it to short extra cover.
01:38So, that's the first Australian with it down for 37.
01:45That's a good shot.
01:46Picking on there, up over mid-wicket.
01:48Four runs.
01:49The master in action there.
01:54Flicks that down for fine rig.
01:56Brings up the 50 for Australia.
01:58One for 50.
01:59And fine return.
02:01Good fielding, good outfielding.
02:04Well, that's short.
02:05You can't go all there to Greg Chappell.
02:07He pulls that away.
02:08Just forward to the square umpire for four runs.
02:11Can's dropping short at medium pace, and Chappell quickly into position.
02:14Dispatch that beautifully just forward to the square umpire.
02:19And that's in the air, just over the head of McEwen.
02:24Lofted on drive.
02:26Be three in it.
02:28Ounce of luck there for Dyson, and three runs.
02:33Been in superb form this season so far, Greg Chappell.
02:38What an appeal for court behind.
02:41Not supported by wicketkeeper Warren Lees.
02:50Nice straight drive.
02:51Good timing.
02:55Minimum amount of effort into that, and produces three runs.
03:07Whipped off the legs.
03:09Good shot.
03:10Lance Cairns getting around very quickly.
03:12Heaves it in.
03:19Dyson looking for the quick single.
03:21Could have been out.
03:23Greg Chappell sending him back.
03:25Picked up very quickly by Bracewell.
03:28It's a very good piece of fielding by Bracewell,
03:30who's come on as a substitute and had plenty of work to do.
03:36It was a lovely shot.
03:38Lovely straight drive.
03:39Pete's Bracewell at mid-off.
03:41Coming down towards the boundary.
03:43Nice shot.
03:44Long boundary, this.
03:46Bruce Eger just tapping it back.
03:48The Australians, no problems in getting through for that fourth run.
03:56Oh, Shepard it off.
03:58And it hits the stumps.
04:00Jeff Howarth.
04:01I think if it had been Max Walker,
04:03it would have been a bit more hip and shoulder in it.
04:05But Chatfield comes across.
04:08Definitely lays a bit of shoulder into Greg Chappell.
04:12And it's in the air.
04:14Chappell going for the big hit.
04:15Warren Lees coming underneath it.
04:17And he's out.
04:18Good breakthrough for New Zealand.
04:23Good delivery from Chatfield.
04:25Just short of a length.
04:26Greg Chappell going for the big hit.
04:27Sky at it.
04:29Difficult catch.
04:29The New Zealand fieldsman converging in it,
04:31but did the right thing and left it for Warren Lees.
04:34Chappell attempting the front foot flick over mid-wicket
04:39into the vacant outfield.
04:41Lees goes for it right from the beginning.
04:43He's got his eyes on it and decides that it's his.
04:45And that's a very good breakthrough for New Zealand.
04:48The Australian captain gone.
04:50For 25.
04:52And Australia at 2 for 92.
04:56And straight into full fly.
04:58Beautiful off drive.
05:00Pierce the field.
05:01Won't make the boundary.
05:04It could be 4 in a very long boundary, the satellite oval.
05:11And Kim Hughes off the mark.
05:14Very first delivery with 4 all run.
05:23And shot by John Dyson off the back foot.
05:25The short boundary out there.
05:274 runs.
05:30Dyson on to 47.
05:32And the Australian total.
05:35One hundred and one.
05:41That's in the air.
05:43Could be 6.
05:44Is 6.
05:45Big hits.
05:45It's Kim Hughes.
05:46Short boundary.
05:47Just the same.
05:48He got underneath it.
05:49Lifted it over the fence.
05:56Tim Hughes timing that ball beautifully.
06:01Picks it up from outside off stump.
06:03Got the foot well across.
06:09And that's in 50.
06:12Very well played, Dyson.
06:15He's had a marvellous season.
06:17And the crowd responding there to...
06:19Well played 50.
06:2350 came up in 126 minutes off 107 balls.
06:32Well that's a fine shot.
06:34Bisecting the field at Middon.
06:35It's flying out towards that short boundary.
06:38And it will be 4.
06:38A beautiful shot.
06:40Very well timed by Dyson.
06:41Through the onside.
06:46It's over the top.
06:49It's 4.
06:50Well.
06:51That's a fine shot.
06:54A bit of aggression there coming in from Dyson's game.
06:57Prepare to hit the ball over the top on the offside.
06:59Very good shot.
07:02It's in the air.
07:03And it might well be out.
07:05Bracewell's under it.
07:05And it's a good catch.
07:06He's caught it.
07:07Very well caught there.
07:07A ball hit high into the outfield.
07:10Bracewell, the sub out there.
07:11Paul Cooney taking a good catch on the boundary.
07:15And Dyson has played very well on his way back to the pavilion.
07:18Not very happy.
07:19Mind you, he's had a marvellous season.
07:21And that's certainly a very good start to his international season.
07:26Well, this was good cricket.
07:28Dyson picking that ball up from about.
07:30Middle scum.
07:31Out to that mid-wicket position.
07:32Nearly went through Bracewell's hands, didn't it?
07:34We could see the ball go into the hands and almost bounce out.
07:38His catch well judged, incidentally.
07:40Because Bracewell came a little bit too far forward initially and had to go back.
07:44Take a catch that looked as though it was going over the top of his head at one stage.
07:48But that's sensible cricket, I think, from Dyson.
07:51Sixty-nine very good runs.
07:54Showing the correct attitude.
07:56Three for 142.
08:00He's hit that well in the air.
08:01And there's a field some out there.
08:02He's coming in.
08:03And it's well caught.
08:06It's right down there.
08:08Came in very quickly.
08:09Caught the ball very low.
08:10And certainly a fine catch.
08:14Right tactics.
08:15Hughes picking up the ball extremely well.
08:19Not hitting it as hard as he has done on previous occasions.
08:22This time he fell short.
08:23And right took a very, very good catch to dismiss Hughes for 20.
08:29So the total now, three, I beg your pardon, four for 147.
08:34It's not an easy time to come into bat.
08:38Recognise batsmen down the order.
08:39And, of course, Australia need another 100 runs, I suspect.
08:50Oh, and he's gone for it.
08:51And he's out.
08:52Walked behind.
08:53Going for the big hit outside off stump.
08:55Giving himself just a little bit of room.
08:56Catfield finding the outside edge.
08:58And Alan Borda is on his way.
09:00Really, Alan Borda was very unlucky there, I think.
09:03The ball was wide of the off stump.
09:04It was worthy of a flash.
09:07Borda did precise that.
09:08He got a thick edge.
09:09There's no slip there at all.
09:11And had he got a thicker edge, it would have been a certain four.
09:13But instead of which, he just got enough bat on it to deflect into the hands of Whitkeeper
09:18Lees.
09:19And that was pretty unfortunate.
09:22Well, that's in the air.
09:23And he's gone.
09:23He's lobbed it up to cover.
09:25Good bowling by Catfield.
09:26And an unfortunate Graff goes back to the pavilion.
09:29He was clearly forced to try and push it on.
09:32But he's lobbed it up to cover.
09:35Graff trying to hit the ball on the leg side.
09:38A ball that was angled away from him.
09:41That's a beautiful square drive.
09:42That's four runs.
09:43Trevor Chappell getting onto the front foot and hitting on the up.
09:46Getting it with tremendous power.
09:53That's struck.
09:54And that's caught.
09:56What a magnificent catch at backwards square leg by Richard Hadley.
10:00The New Zealanders have not let a thing go past.
10:03And this great fielding still continuing by the New Zealanders.
10:06Trevor Chappell hooking it off the leg side.
10:08But look at Richard Hadley throwing himself to the right.
10:11What a class cricketer he is.
10:13And this catch of his, really superb.
10:17Throwing himself to the right and taking it.
10:21Magnificent effort by the New Zealanders.
10:23And it's 7'167 and Australia in trouble.
10:29Cairns.
10:29And that's in the air.
10:31Could be another one.
10:32He's into it.
10:32And he's caught it there.
10:34Catching them like chilling trees the New Zealanders.
10:36They're full of confidence in the outfield.
10:38And that's the end of Dennis Lilly.
10:41Making those outfield catches look easy.
10:43And they're never easy.
10:44Especially in a bright sunny day.
10:46And it's lofted and you have to move in quickly.
10:48Good bowling once again.
10:49The short boundary out there.
10:50A good catch here by Sneddon.
10:53Coming in underneath it.
10:55And then coming forward.
10:56John Wright rather.
10:57Coming forward.
10:57Catching it on the knees.
11:01High and hard and long.
11:04But the square leg.
11:05Ball runs to Ronnie Marsh.
11:07Moves on to 13.
11:08Good shot.
11:10Very strong aspect of Marsh's batting.
11:12Getting it away.
11:13Just behind square leg.
11:16He's in the air.
11:17Wicketkeeper Lee's getting under.
11:18He's getting himself in a bit of a mess.
11:21Yes.
11:21He never looked like catching that.
11:23First mistake by New Zealanders.
11:24Wicketkeeper not getting back and kicking up the fight of that delivery.
11:28And it falls safely.
11:29And Rodney Marsh has a life.
11:30The first blunder by the New Zealanders.
11:32Bill Laurie nominated.
11:33You can see Lee's in all sorts of problems.
11:35I just wonder whether he may have lost it in the sun for a moment.
11:38But at the end.
11:39Not even touching it.
11:42Marsh gets hold of that.
11:43It's going over the top, is it?
11:44Yes, it is.
11:45And that's six vital runs to Australia.
11:47Marsh picking it up.
11:48Swuggling it over the short boundary.
11:50Square leg.
11:53Big six.
11:54Exactly the same position Kim Hughes put one over earlier on today.
11:58Rodney Marsh.
11:59Going caution to the winds.
12:01Picking it up on the half volley.
12:03Clipping it over that short boundary.
12:05Over the top of John Bracewall.
12:08Ends the game.
12:09Marsh giving himself room.
12:10He's hit it in the air.
12:11And that's nice and straight.
12:12That could be four.
12:12Four more and a crowd roar.
12:16Well played Rodney Marsh.
12:18Tremendous applause as he hit that ball straight down the ground.
12:23Australia 201 for eight.
12:25Marsh on to 28.
12:30That's six more.
12:31Oh, he's got hold of that down to the victory.
12:33It's just engaged.
12:34That's a beauty, Rodney Marsh.
12:36Under the roof.
12:37Magnificent camera work and a magnificent shot.
12:40The crowd on their feet for Rodney Marsh.
12:42Great start.
12:43Picked it up.
12:44Swung it square.
12:45Right over the top.
12:51He's got hold of it.
12:55He's got hold of it and he's put it away for four more.
12:58Tremendous on short by the victory by Batsman Rodney Marsh.
13:01The crowd divided.
13:04Good run so far coming from this over.
13:06Big hitting by Rodney Marsh.
13:08Just what the Australians needed.
13:11Ends the game.
13:12And we will go.
13:13It goes over again at six more.
13:14It's a magnificent hit.
13:15Rodney Marsh.
13:16Thresh it goes.
13:20All that good work done by the New Zealanders.
13:23A little unstuck in this last over of Lance Cairns.
13:26Three sixes and two fours.
13:28Mammoth hitting by Rod Marsh.
13:31And the last ball of the innings coming up.
13:34That is if we can get it back.
13:38217 for eight.
13:39And where do you think Lance Cairns will pitch this one, Bill?
13:43I don't think he'd nail on it.
13:44I'm not sure I don't.
13:45Don't worry Rodney Marsh very much.
13:48It's four.
13:48He's hit it away.
13:49He could be out.
13:50And that's it.
13:52Caught.
13:52The Australian innings.
13:54Been a wonderful over for Rodney Marsh.
13:55Taking 26 off the final.
13:57However, he's a little bit disappointed in being caught.
13:59Off a 217 standing ovation for the well-order bathroom.
14:05Brought this game back to life with a big hitting display.
14:08The crowd loving it.
14:09The Australians loving it.
14:10I'm quite sure our viewers in our home enjoyed it very much also.
14:14Well, what an exhibition that was.
14:16An absolutely marvellous display of hitting there by Rodney Marsh.
14:19And how timely it was to get the Australians up so they could set New Zealand that 218 to win.
14:25They moved along quietly until the 13th over.
14:29None for 25 was to score.
14:31Geoff Lawson, the new cap for the Australian side, is coming in bowling to John Wright,
14:35who's made eight.
14:36And your commentators are Bill Lorry and Frank Tyson.
14:40That's a thick edge.
14:41Gets through past the swips.
14:42And that could be four runs.
14:45Yes, and four very valuable runs for the New Zealanders.
14:48Thickest edge through the subcordion.
14:56Good shot.
14:57Square the wicket.
14:58Amongst the seagulls and the deflection by a seagull.
15:01Gives four runs to New Zealand.
15:03Well, well, well.
15:06Well, I'm very happy when Pascoe had that ball covered, went into the flock of seagulls and deflection.
15:13Adds three runs to the title.
15:17Lawson again.
15:20Beats him outside the off stump.
15:21The end of the over.
15:24No wicket for 37.
15:30Well, that's a big hit.
15:32And that's four runs.
15:36That's amazing.
15:37A change of bowler.
15:39Trevor Chappell.
15:40Flickset gets it away for one.
15:42Looking for two.
15:44Missed field by Dennis Lilley.
15:46Took his eye off the ball.
15:47And a very valuable run for New Zealand.
15:49But under pressure by the batsman.
15:50Looking for the second run.
15:53He's hit that hard.
15:56Coming around.
15:57And that's four more.
15:59A good over for New Zealand.
16:01Ten runs off the over.
16:02Trevor Chappell's first.
16:06That's beautifully striking.
16:07That's four runs for the moment.
16:09It left the bat.
16:10A full pitch.
16:10About middle and leg.
16:12And he flipped that beautifully forward to the square league umpire right for four runs.
16:18That's an ear.
16:19It's a chance for wicket.
16:20It's on this sun.
16:21Points getting under it.
16:23And well caught.
16:25Trevor Chappell.
16:26Trevor Chappell well caught.
16:28Car in the sun.
16:29He's hitting up the fight of that ball.
16:31Beautifully judged.
16:32It was an excellent catch.
16:35Ball going high.
16:37Off a leading edge.
16:38And that's the fall of the first New Zealand wicket.
16:44That's been trying to...
16:45Edgar trying to force it around the leg side.
16:47And edging it high off that leading edge.
16:50To present a very difficult chance to Trevor Chappell.
16:53Took it well.
16:54So Edgar out for 25.
16:551-4-61.
16:571-2-3.
17:00A quick single.
17:01Could be a chance of a run out.
17:02Rod Nash throws it.
17:03And deflected over the stumps.
17:05And he's out.
17:06He's out.
17:07Trevor Chappell deflecting that return from Rod Nash onto the stumps.
17:12Paul McKeown is run out for three.
17:16A bit of work by Trevor Chappell.
17:17I'm not too sure that he actually had the ball in his hand.
17:20And it might well have been that it deflected onto the stumps.
17:22Might be worth watching that.
17:27Seems to me that he flopped the ball with his hand.
17:30Whether he actually got it onto the stumps.
17:32In fact, he did.
17:32He had the ball in his hand as he took the bail off.
17:35There's no doubt about that.
17:39We have an interesting view from this angle.
17:42Oh, it's a very, very good throw.
17:44Low, though it might have been.
17:45Yes, certainly a very good decision on the part of the umpire.
17:48And that was pretty well taken by Trevor Chappell as well.
17:51So, Paul McKeown run out for three.
17:54The total two for 67.
18:00Lovely shot.
18:01It's the one he's been waiting for.
18:03The one that's up there right in the slot.
18:05Pitched the way through the covers.
18:06Four runs.
18:08It's a nice shot by him.
18:09Howarth.
18:39John Wright.
18:41Defense.
18:42And the Bettsman, meanwhile, have crossed for three.
18:51And that's a great shot.
18:53A great shot from Wright.
18:55Very hard hit.
18:57Lawson after it.
18:58But they've crossed already for two.
19:02Well, they'll be happy with three.
19:03And at the moment, Wright is looking very, very good indeed.
19:08He's hitting the ball very cleanly, very crisply.
19:10And now he's just one short of his half century.
19:15Graff coming in from the northern end.
19:25There's Hasco doing the fielding.
19:28Mr. Edgar really has the bit between his teeth now.
19:31He's throwing his back at anything wide of the stumps.
19:33He's hitting them cleanly all the time.
19:35But he's certainly proving that runs can be picked up.
19:39John Wright's half century came up in 145 minutes from 110 deliveries.
19:45Four fours.
19:55Well done, Trevor Chappell.
19:57That's a great piece of fielding.
20:00A great piece of fielding, Matt.
20:02He took a good catch early.
20:05And that was a very difficult run-in, pick-up and throw.
20:09He was going one way and he had to throw the other.
20:11And he got it in over the top of the bayers.
20:15How it has gone, run out, as so often happens in these games.
20:20And what a good throw that was.
20:32It's beautifully timed.
20:34Square of the wicket.
20:35Robby square drive.
20:36That's four runs.
20:38Parker timing at the perfection.
20:40Just went on that ball.
20:41It was a full pitch.
20:42Good square of the wicket.
20:44And that's a full pitch.
20:46Let's put that away down to deep-backward square leg.
20:48And that's four more runs.
20:5113 runs off the over from Lawson.
20:53Just what New Zealand needed.
20:56It's four for 176.
21:02That's well struck down the ground.
21:04It's in the air.
21:05Dyson coming in.
21:06And he's blocked it.
21:07A sitter.
21:08Dear, oh dear.
21:09Should have caught that.
21:11I think that's Ellen Border.
21:13Apologies to John Dyson.
21:18He's got a big, fine leg.
21:22Going quickly towards the boundary.
21:24It's a long boundary down there.
21:25And that's four valuable runs.
21:28Good over for the New Zealand side.
21:30The Intervillie's seventh over.
21:36And that's off the pad.
21:37That's going fine.
21:37That could be four.
21:41They're coming around and four runs.
21:45Inside edge.
21:54He's out, yes.
21:56Ball up, getting up and really asking the question by Tony Craft.
22:02No hesitation at all in giving him out LBW for a very variable 39 runs to Richard Hatterley.
22:07Well played.
22:09Keeps the game alive at five for 198.
22:13Julie once again banging this one into the track short.
22:16Hadley expects it to bounce a lot higher than what it does.
22:19Takes off for the leg by.
22:22He gets the signal from Crafter.
22:24He's on his way and it's five for 198.
22:32And that could be Aldi Courtney.
22:34What a magnificent piece of bowling.
22:35A great catch.
22:36Tied him down.
22:37Packer looking to hit that on the onside.
22:39And Dennis Lillie taking a beautifully judged court and bowl.
22:43Great cricket.
22:43Tremendous pressure applied by the great pass, Kyla.
22:47And New Zealand are five, six for 203.
22:54They're going to go through for a quick leg by.
22:57That was well run.
23:00The Australian's a little bit sluggish getting in there.
23:02Border.
23:03It's always on in a situation like this.
23:05They'll hit and run or when the ball strikes, the pads get through quickly.
23:10207 for six.
23:1512 balls remaining.
23:16And there's always a chance for a run out.
23:18Oh, if he hits them, he misses them.
23:19Dear, oh dear.
23:20Nobody at the stumps.
23:21Come on, Australia.
23:22Now, Dennis Lillie holds his head.
23:25Complete muck up between the batsmen.
23:27Australia was to the bowler's end all the time in the world.
23:29Nobody at the stumps.
23:32And the comedy of errors as far as Australia is concerned.
23:35An available run for New Zealand.
23:39Jeremy Coney, a very experienced player in a tight situation.
23:42He hit the winning run with two balls to go in the West Indies match.
23:48They're going for everything they possibly can.
23:50And once again, another single.
23:55Now the pressure's on everybody.
24:01That's an ear.
24:02That could be out.
24:04It's a high one.
24:04It's a pressure catch.
24:05And he's just caught it.
24:07There is the adrenaline pumping Lawson, is it?
24:14He's skying a top edge there.
24:16Rodney Marsh tells Lawson that it's his.
24:19Lawson, I think, wasn't so keen to hear that.
24:22He was up high there for a start, but the ball must have moved away from him.
24:26And it's a very relieved...
24:29It's a very relieved Lawson who says,
24:33thank heavens for that.
24:37Yes, they'll be sitting right on the edge of the chair.
24:42And they might need a can or two.
24:45Something.
24:45There'll be a few records jumping around the place.
24:50That's in the air.
24:51That's safe.
24:52That's four runs.
24:53Well timed.
24:54Picked it up.
24:55Just strained down the leg side.
24:57And he's picking it up well.
24:59And a beautifully played shot.
25:00The end of a fine spell from Dennis Lilley.
25:05Ten overs, two maidens, three for 40.
25:08It's going to be Geoff Lawson to bowl the final over.
25:11And what Greg Chappell must be asking himself is why his bowlers have to bowl nine no balls in a
25:16limited over game.
25:17And give the New Zealand batsman those extra balls that certainly will probably bring them victory in this match.
25:23You just can't afford to bowl one and a half overs of no balls.
25:28The bonus is for the opposition as Lawson comes in.
25:33And that's cut fine.
25:34It could be four.
25:35That could be the winning run.
25:37Lance Cairns cutting the ball.
25:39A durable Lance Cairns running up and down the record with the bat held high.
25:43And a good victory for New Zealand.
25:45Well played.
25:46And aren't they happy?
25:47And why shouldn't they be?
25:48The underdogs in this match have won it well.
25:52Oh, what a marvellous win that was.
25:54And they paced themselves so well.
25:56Really was an object lesson to everyone on the best method to play limited over cricket.
26:00To play it and win that is.
26:02One point I must make is to do with the Australian bowling.
26:05They gave the New Zealand batsman an extra nine deliveries there today.
26:10And I'll defy any team in a limited over game of 50 overs to turn around and win the match
26:14at that stage.
26:15It's just the wrong thing to do.
26:17Tactically it's bad.
26:18And I don't know how it's happening.
26:21It's just a question obviously that they're putting their feet in the wrong position.
26:24But they must get it right.
26:25Otherwise they're going to lose more limited over games.
