00:00Did you know there's an invisible line penguins never cross?
00:03Even though penguins live across much of the southern hemisphere,
00:05you'll never naturally find them in the Arctic or north of the equator.
00:09The reason is simple.
00:10Penguins evolved in the southern hemisphere millions of years ago.
00:13Over time, they became incredible swimmers adapted to cold ocean waters.
00:17But the warm temperatures around the equator are too harsh for them,
00:20and their usual food sources are limited there.
00:23Scientists even discovered fossils of giant ancient penguins in Antarctica
00:26that were taller than humans.
00:28That's why penguins became symbols of the South Pole,
00:30while polar bears represent the North Pole,
00:32two animals that never meet in the wild.
