AMA Supercross 2026 Salt Lake City 450sx HEAT 2
Transcript
00:01I own it I almost think it'd be easier to be on the motorcycle at this stage at
00:06least for my thoughts right now well old move though for the 96 starting outside
00:14of the top three guys to his left he didn't have a choice he was besides
00:19Eli he was ahead of kin so all right this is gonna be as I said before this
00:25is gonna give us a window into the evening it's the second heat of the
00:28450s the title rivals are in it who gets the better of the start Hunter Lawrence
00:34blasts out of the gate gets that inside run gets the whole shot and Honda's
00:39hero is out in front yeah that's checked checkbox number one right here and oh
00:43Tomek goes down this is gonna be the thing this is the first time they've been on
00:48the track in a while so might take them a lap kind of to get seated in James but
00:53this is going to be exciting watch but watch Kenny how explosive he is early on
00:57inside of Vince Friese make quick work of that and apparent we're hearing that
01:02Eli Tomek may be hurt he's down on no oh man he's only just come back from injury
01:09yeah he's in a bad spot too right off in the middle it probably can't speculate but
01:15probably stop this race where he's at great start Hunter Lawrence now Roxanne's out after
01:22Justin Barsha aboard that Troy Lee design Red Bull Ducati see this is you talk
01:27about what does it mean for these two guys to be in the same heat race look at not
01:32another red cross flag out so they're allowed to jump and go through that
01:36rhythm lane as they did but this is this kind of helps a guy like Ken because he
01:42can get a feel in case he's in this situation right in the main event and as
01:46well for Hunter if he gets that whole shot this is this is big for these two
01:52guys for those two reasons look at Hunter man making it happen when he does
01:57yeah it's gonna be interesting to watch kind of I didn't think Ken would be
02:01really that aggressive in this heat race compared to in the main event as you
02:05can hear the crowd I think Eli might be oh down another rider down in the
02:10background there as well whether that was Jordan Smith I think it may have been
02:14aboard his triumph and that is hard to watch yeah remember Eli hurt his hip back
02:20when he crashed in Cleveland in practice hopefully he hasn't aggravated that again
02:25but hate to see that because he had a great run coming back the job of a good run
02:30through a hunter right there so three seconds between the two of them with
02:35Justin Barsha in the middle JT what you got just watching Ken rocks in there just
02:40has a couple of sections where he just doesn't look comfortable to me guys
02:44through the whoops which is usually a great spot for him he is usually lethal in
02:49those whoops in the sand section he has not been able to find traction with the
02:53rear end so I'm just wondering if something that they made an adjustment or
02:56maybe can for the main event you can kind of see hunter warrants riding off in the
03:00distance a little bit that's something they're gonna need to address before it
03:04really counts yeah I agree and that's kind of the way he looked all day long
03:07and I feel like if this was the main event Justin probably wouldn't be you
03:12know racing him but in the heat race he'll probably will but yeah Ken's been a
03:16little bit off all day and I don't know Ricky if there's anything you really can't
03:19change at this point it's look the same yeah I mean you can't reinvent the wheel
03:23here by any stretch of the imagination this race seems going to do the best they
03:27can do to get the bike as comfortable for Ken as they can listen everything is a
03:32compromise on these motorcycles and Ken knows that his team personnel know that
03:37you know if you need something more from the rear most likely it's going to take
03:42away from that front so at the end of the day yes the team can play a role but the
03:46rider needs to make the final decision because it's on him and he's the guy
03:51riding it Garrett Marchbank's Vince Friese this is 6th and 7th Grant Harlan is in a
03:56transfer position and so too is Quadlock Honda's Shane McElrath he's been able to get
04:01the head of Kyle Chisholm Chisholm Chisholm was in a transfer position and indeed it was
04:05Jordan Smith who went down and he was as high as 6th place and he's dropped to 11th now
04:12be interesting to see these next couple laps what Kenny is able to do if he's able to
04:17make some ground and James you know the mental side of the game if you were in Ken's spot would
04:22you would it help you going into the main if you made up time on him right now yeah I
04:27was
04:27gonna I was gonna talk about that exactly if if you're in Kenny like you want to close that gap
04:32especially Hunter's been quicker all day long and all that struggling and then Hunter I want to try
04:37to pull away from him to kind of demoralize him all right here's this guy Hunter Lawrence who's been
04:43working incredibly hard with his team on starts and boy you saw the proof in the pudding right there
04:50as he blasted out of the gates grabbed the whole shot took off he has however over the last lap
04:56lost
04:56about seven-tenths of a second to Ken Rockson well he has the last lap like to Diff's point Ken
05:03was a
05:0350.5 Hunter was a 50.9 you can see he's catching him watch this perfect execution and watch when
05:13he shifts
05:13right there that is huge the biggest thing that I believe he's gonna have to do is make sure that
05:19he does not overshoot his breaking going into there and fade out and let Ken get to the inside or
05:24anyone
05:24for that matter yeah and it's really easy to do that when you pull a hole shot like Hunter because
05:29you
05:29don't have that you know breaking point when you go down Basha goes by so to Malcolm Stewart this is
05:38not gonna help the headspace of Ken Rockson well we haven't seen this happen I don't know maybe as
05:44crazy as this might sound this might be what Ken needed right here okay obviously but not for the
05:50the going into the main event but take everything away quit looking into it just go out ride your
05:55motorcycle he's gonna come in here take it away yeah it's probably gonna get on the gas and just
05:59or loses the front end right here gets on the gas but before that he was starting to close in
06:04on
06:06Hunter Lawrence at that point so you got to think he was pushing it JT he definitely was trying to
06:11close in time and I think both of you made great points about the mental battle in this heat race
06:15what that means for the main event but now I'm thinking about that gate pick for the main event
06:19we saw how good Hunter Lawrence's starts are and probably will be in the main event but for Ken Rockson
06:24now
06:25you're talking about the seventh or eighth gate pick which is just gonna make things that much
06:29harder for the main event I'm gonna tell you though I mean knowing Ken when he rode for Kerry Hart
06:34and I
06:34at RCH Racing this guy could come out and get a good a good start in the main event no
06:41matter where
06:42he's from and if he finds himself in front of Hunter for some reason look out he could win this
06:47race like
06:48it's it's certainly not over yeah no absolutely you know and then on the flip side if I'm Hunter I'm
06:53like
06:53yeah he was closing but obviously he was over his head look at him I was doing this pretty easy
06:57so
06:58yeah it's funny how the mind works it's like if you're Hunter you're like well I had him on the
07:03edge that's why he fell the mind is a mysterious thing I'll tell you remember last week in Denver
07:09Ricky you laid out everything that Hunter Lawrence needed to do well he is answering that challenge
07:14and he's doing it he wins last weekend in Denver and look at this a five and a half second
07:19lead
07:20in his heat terrific start very composed ride very clean and smooth ride in this heat yeah checkbox
07:28number one right there and again very very impressive it's got to do it one he needs one more start
07:35just
07:36like that I think these are gonna be jumpers later on yeah I think so yeah OJS won't like the
07:43jumper
07:44that's why I had a little stutter right there his little brother and fellow champion Jet Lawrence is
07:52here cheering on big bro there it is that's exactly how you want to start championship Saturday with a
07:59comfortable victory over your rival and the championship leader well done Justin Barsha his
08:06comeback to the sport continues in nice fashion with second over Malcolm Stewart and Ken Rockson in
08:12fourth ahead of Cooper Webb yeah I just say you throw it out for
