The Dream Behind Kodak_ How George Eastman Created a Photography Giant!
Transcript
00:00In the early days, Kodak was a completely different company than what we know of today.
00:04In fact, it wasn't even called Kodak then, but rather, the Eastman Company.
00:08This came after George Eastman founded the company in 1888.
00:11George was a businessman who loved photography.
00:13He took up photography as a hobby during his free time from his day job at a bank.
00:17However, he soon realized that his true passion was in photography.
00:21And so, he left his job at the bank and started his own business.
00:24At first, it was just him running the whole operation out of his home.
00:27But as his business grew, he moved it to a small office and hired a few employees.
00:32When starting the business, he wanted to come up with a brand name.
00:35He wanted something easy to say, easy to remember, and easy to spell.
00:39After thinking long and hard about it, he finally came up with the name Kodak.
00:43According to George, the name came to him in a dream.
00:46In his dream, he heard two children calling out to each other, Kuda.
00:50When he awoke, he wrote down the name and thought it would be a great name for his company.
00:53While it might have come to him in a dream, the name actually has a really clever meaning behind it.
00:58If you take the first letter of each word and customers are always Kodak, you get Kodak.
01:03Clever, right?
01:03From the very beginning.
